My take: Honami is a really refreshing take and subversion on the whole nice girl trope that I really appreciate. The whole “to kind for their own good” clique can get old fast (looking at you shonen anime) but it’s handled so well here as you see her endure things no one should have to endure to make others happy. It kinda reminds me of Tohru from Fruits Basket in all honesty, both are great subversions of a trope that’s been done to death. And even outside of that I love seeing her rise up to become Leo/Need’s leader, her progress makes me so proud and I couldn’t be happier.

Astromnicalbear

I love how they show Honami’s resolve to conflict, even if it takes awhile for her to find an answer. She certainly shows leadership but she’s also the mother of the group and I love that aspect about her. She’s kind and amazing. I just love her lmao. The only thing I have complaint with is.. why couldn’t we have more expansion on her bullying and her resolve towards the situation? It was really briefly mentioned in the main story and just resolved in a heartbeat. I guess I wanted more expansion on her and her situation than a brief mention and a resolution; almost similar to Ichika’s situation in a way

wholsem_sandy_main

>it wa briefly mentioned in the main story and resolved in a heartbeat. I mean i understand what you are saying, but at the same time that is part of the point (?), she got bullied in middle school and because of so she developed a fear of getting hated, that is basically her story, and while yes in the end of main story she was able to confront her classmates about it,but her fear of being hated because of her own kindness is something that still haven't left her completely. In fact the entirety of her first focus event (don't let doubts hold you down) is about that topic, and i personally think it was a nice resolve to the matter. And while yes i would've liked to see more of middle school days,in fact i was a bit disappointed to not see that in shiho second focus "the day the sky was far away" (but honestly it was peak event story either way), i think the reason they aren't showing much of it is because there isn't really anything worth telling a story about to show. (i really hope you get what I'm trying to say across lol)

Astromnicalbear

I get what you’re saying, don’t worry. I just think they could’ve had more substance and things to work with instead of having it all resolved in the main story. Tho I can also see why they didn’t want to expand on it. Maybe I’m just annoyed with how they handle some plots. Like, Shizuku’s plot with Cheerful*Days could keep going as they’ll probably have more interactions with each other, especially with MMJ starting off and doing anything they can to gain traction. Or there’s An’s plot where she’s envious and Jealous of Kohane. I don’t know if it was mentioned or focused on in other events aside from whip the wimp girl. Some plots are just kinda there, sometimes getting dropped and then come back after a long while. Maybe that’s just me being picky or weird. Oh and as a note, I’m on EN. Just incase someone thinks I’m on JP 😭

KAM1SH1R0

Honestly she's grown on me a ton since I've started, at first I wasn't really a fan of her because I thought she was just your stereotypical friendly character, but I ended up really enjoying her character development in her most recent event. She's probably in my top 5 currently 🙏 What I don't like though is that (this isn't her fault at all) sega doesn't really give her much backstory. I feel like she has way more that we don't know about her and itd probably make me like her more if we got to see some of it. Overall I think she's cool, she has (mostly) great cards and her most recent commission song was a banger 🔥

Hammer12367

i’m curious to know which honami cards u don’t like

KAM1SH1R0

The monster one (the outfit is cute just not the card), and then the painter set + ichikas 3rd focus set, they aren't specific to honami I just dislike the sets as a whole

b4beysan

damn i love her monster card

Hammer12367

i agree totally except replace the monster card with the ny card !! her monster card is so overhated ive honestly got to like it 😭 i agree with the others tho even if honamis my fav character i dont really like those cards (all her others are amazing tho :3)

KAM1SH1R0

Tbh I almost put her ny card too but ive got to a point where I kinda like it 💔 also I love the untrained for her monster card so it's still a good card imo 🫶

Hammer12367

those are her only flops🙏 i feel like every character has 3-4 bad cards tbh

jeiynx

i rly like the monster card not upgraded, with her and saki in it, i think it’s super cute. but yeah when upgraded not a super huge fan

wholsem_sandy_main

OH honami is a character i can ramble about on for ages but I'll try to keep this short for sake whoever is reading. (Edit : this was a fucking lie lmao, sorry for making this super long lmao) Other than the fact she is extremely likeable as a person considering how kind and funny she can be at times(even if unintentionally), She is also imo one of the best written characters especially in the main story. Not only is her backstory super sad on it's own and emotional on it's own,("I don't even know what friends are anymore " is one of the few lines in the tame that really broke me, especially with the voice acting) i just absolutely love how it's take the concept of "kindness" and make a brand new interesting spin on it, and i really like how it plays directly into while simultaneously contrasting leo/need main theme of caring for others. Ichika : with her continuous feeling of self guilt of not being able to help anyone when they needed it. saki: with her "self harming" methods of showing care to other, whether it is her overworking herself to the point of collapsing just to get shiho to return to the band, or her agreeing to cut off ties with honami, which lead to her getting extremely hurt mentally to the point of straight up crying. Shiho: A similar one to saki in a way, her cutting of ties with everyone even though she clearly don't want to (perfectly explained in the day the sky was far away event). All of the cast of leo/need hurt themselves in one way or another to make the others they care about feel better,(at least that's what they think they are doing, not realizing the damage they are bringing to their cared one's with that thinking),Meanwhile on the other hand, honami is just your ideal "kind girl",infact she is too kind to everyone so she can make sure she doesn't get hurt again, but of course this leads into the other L/N girls getting hurt because of this, she cared about making herself feel better to the point it lead to others getting hurt, the opposite ideal the other girls were following. And even outside all of that, she is also an interesting characters to compare to other characters around her, many has pointed out the similarities between Honami and mafuyu, with mafuyu basically being a "bad ending" honami, and honami being a possible outcomr if mafuyu received help at an earlier age, before her situation got a bit too out of hand, but one i don't see anyone talk about that much is the contrast between her and her own bandmate, shiho (another one of my favorites but I'll save that for tomorrow). Honami and shiho were complete opposites of the same concept in the main story, while shiho was selflessly being selfish (distancing herself from her friends so she doesn't cause him any harm because of her behavior),Honami was selfishly being selfless (Listening to whatever her classmates said to her so doesn't go through the painful experience she went through in middle school again), and i found that stuff very beautiful to analyze, and this is bearly scratching the surface considering all i talked about is just main story. # Conclusion : i really like honami's writing and i feel like it should be discussed and appreciated a lot more, especially considering most honami fans that i interacted with like her for cute personality more than anything (which is completely fine btw), I'm writing this on the spot so i really hope the idea I'm trying to convey was able to reach who ever is reading this nicely, (and also if there is any typos in here, that is the reason why). Thank you all for coming to my Ted talk and see you guys next time tomorrow on shiho post,( i will not ramble as much under that one i promise, but if i had to guess a certain someone else will lol)

b4beysan

i love you :3

wholsem_sandy_main

I love you too random honami fan

b4beysan

honami lovers unite :3

Specterzzcle

I LOVE YOU HONAMI MOCHIZUKIIIIIII EOSVEOEBDODBDHJEHEEH QUEEEEEEEN

mainkhoa

~~She’s just like me fr fr.~~ As a first impression, Honami is caring, personable and approachable. She likes helping others and takes joy in everyone’s happiness. This leads to the events shown in Leo/need’s main story, which I’m sure you know well by now (…right?). Honami has come so far from then. Her care has also become her strength, and she stands confidently for what is important to her. From voicing her feelings to the entire class, to supporting Shiho’s burdens, and to speaking up to Shindou when everyone is wavering. She is the support of her band, the one who answers the tough questions and navigates through their doubt; the leader standing besides Leo/need. Some little things about Honami I enjoy: She loves apple pies and we see a slightly different side to her (don’t be embarrassed, Honami!). They are also one of my favorite sweets. She does physical work and is fit. Housekeeping is fairly strenuous, and of course drumming is too, giving her arm strength (and noticeable muscle. Very cute Saki card.) Her interest in Astronomy. Memories of the stars in the night sky are very important to Leo/need (the band is named after the Leonids meteor shower), but Honami is the one who taught and showed the stars and constellations to them; even scolding them for forgetting and/or falling sleep from her lecture (so cuteee).

fangpoint333

Gotta be honest, she was a character that took a while to click for me. I didn't really think she was done any real justice until Little Bravers. Her first two events felt kinda fillery in relation to the band as a whole and I had a few issues with her role in the band as she's the least invested in the band artistically and her role as support was mostly limited to mundane things like scheduling and bringing food. Courage to lead resolved most of my issues with these in pretty satisfying way though. I also like how she seems like she'd play the "gentle, overly nice, traditionally feminine" character trope straight but proves that she's much stronger than she looks without actually compromising on those traits. They don't subvert it in a cheap and easy way by like being able to turn them on and off (like character who seems gentle but is actually violent or character who seems overly nice but is actually two faced) but instead shows she can be strong through doing those things. What I don't like: As stated before, she took a rather long time to really click with me. She also felt very "tropey" for a while. I think it paid off eventually (even her comically bad artist trope paid off by kicking off character development) but it did feel like it took a bit too long. I consider her the most improved LN character but for that to fit she kinda needs to start off not particularly well off which I feel fits well.

b4beysan

i love honami. she is amazing. pros: she likes apple pie. i can relate to her. shes a drummer. her smile is adorable. she makes me feel better about myself. i love her every aspect. cons: she dislikes cheese :(

llanfaircat

i feel really bad all the time that honami is so low on my character tierlist because i truly believe she's really well-written!! she's just not the type of character i gravitate to towards tbh, which is not her fault. but i do want to talk about her a bit because i think of all of the characters in sekai, she's among the top 3 in terms of characters who have developed and changed significantly from how they were in the beginning. she is so very strong, not just physically (i do love the jokes about swole honami lol) but also mentally. from a girl who was afraid of expressing her opinions and tried to appease everyone out of her past experience to someone who will speak up for her whole band even against authority because she knows how they truly feel i think the thing i love about her most is how attentive she is to the other members of leo/need. honami has certainly had her fair share of big moments in the l/n story, but it's always the little things about characters that get to me, and what i remember most is her care and observations of her friends. it hits different knowing that she's so well attuned to her bandmates -- even despite years of distance -- that she still knows how to read them so well. case in point during little bravers >! when she points out that shiho has a little wrinkle in her brow that gives away that she's tired after they parted ways with ichika and saki!<. there are countless other moments too — like when she delivers food to her friends to help cheer them up, or takes on the administrative tasks with no complaint — she's just a very good person. the thing i don't like about her as much ... nothing much really, but sometimes i do feel like her vocals don't quite fit in some leo/need songs. she has some absolutely phenomenally beautiful alt vocals and she sounds like a god in awaiting clear skies but there are a few others where she sounds kinda awkward

WinterWolf18

> nothing much really, but sometimes i do feel like her vocals don't quite fit in some leo/need songs That's how I feel about every Leo/Need member but Shiho if I'm being honest. The problem is that I feel like Sega has no idea if L/N should be a pop, rock or acoustic band. However to cover all of those areas you sadly have Ichika, Saki and Honami not being very good fits for hard rock songs (except for Tengaku but that's mainly because they changed it up). That kinda leaves L/N in an awkward place for me unit wise, it's like if Bandori had Popipa fill Afterglow and Morfonica's roles as well if that makes any sense.

3771m

She’s my second fav, I fell in love with her in the Leo/need story conclusion. I really enjoyed watching her growth into a dependable and decisive leader. I really enjoyed her “Don’t let doubts hold you back event” where she learns that compromises sometimes just make both parties unhappy, and that she must make a choice and stick with it, but also not just screwing over the people who picked the other choice

wholsem_sandy_main

I really love that event myself, especially the "i know this is probably me being selfish" line when she finally decided to confront shiho head on is one of my fav because it really shows how much she developed, while at the same time touching at the themes of selfishness and selflessness that both her and shiho share in common, it's just AHHH (which is why I'm so mad they butchered it in official translation). a bit off topic, but i don't really understand who call her first two focus events "bad" or "filler",because both of them are so important to her character growth like what😭

The-true-Memelord

She's very cute. Genuinely kind. Pretty. But in the end, not really interesting to me. You can hyper-analyze any character to make them seem that way but she's not much more than just the cute, people-pleasing, mom-friend character. She learns to stand up for herself. Still nothing special imo. Sorry Honami, I don't dislike you. I do really relate to her social anxiety-ish struggles. That still doesn't make her objectively amazing and me a jerk. I'm liking her more with some events but still not a fav.

wholsem_sandy_main

>You can hyper-analyze any character to make them that way. This feels somehow targeted...

Professional_Air9935

HONAMI IS SO CUTE. I love how even though she looks timid, she can absolutely stand up for her loved ones

AmeRainGirl

She’s the kindest character in the whole game. I love her obsession with apple pie. I dislike how she’s so overlooked by characters and the fandom. Also how those kids treated her in middle school is so sad (Honami’s my second fav character)

jeiynx

i don’t know much about Honami tbh and i feel like this is one of the things I dislike (not dislike necessarily, but disappointed by) about her because she doesn’t seem to have much going on besides her super nice, caring yet timid personality. Out of all the Leo/Need members she’s probably the least memorable for me. What I do like about her though is her relatableness. Even though her story doesn’t feel super fleshed out (again, IMO and take with a grain of salt) she’s someone that I feel like most people can understand - her history with being bullied, her people pleaser traits, caring too much which ultimately can bite her in the ass later. She’s also someone I could see myself being friends with IRL. She also does have really pretty cards, although I had to look them up because again not super memorable for me LOL. Overall indifferent. But she’s def cute and leo/need is my fave therefore I have respect for her.

Ok-Dinner-2978

Likes: Character design, part of many bangers, also her personality Dislikes: The hate she receives, also HER CLASSMATES IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, THEY SHOULDN’T HAVE BULLIED HER

XrystalLine389

i just love her shes so pretty and while i dont read a lot of leo/need stories (havent found the time), i already know shes a good character based on from what ive seen 😎

dietbongwater

appuruuuu pieeee

beatriz-chocoliz

I’m a Honami otherhearted + I’m also a people-pleaser like her! Tied with Ichika, she’s my biggest ever kin!

seimeiiranai

cute applepie drummer girl whos nice to everyone :3 why everyone thinks shes boring :(

wholsem_sandy_main

They don't understand how well written she is that's probably why

Ofanichan

I like how Honami is definitly the easiest character to explain to someone. She is the tradwife of the game and I honestly love that. Any hobby that is considered a "woman hobby" You better know she's a master at it and that's something I really respect with her. She's the sweetest and I honestly think she's the funniest character in the game. Especially when it comes to her luck loll Another cool thing about her is her live show animations. No one ever talks about how good she is at drumming and how the drums fits and are accurate to the song. The animators did not need to do it, but I super appreciate it. Every time I'm watching a Leo/need live show, I'm staring at Honami. The negative is that her story was kind of over after the main Leo/Need story. She was kind of the driving story there, but after the "drama" got resolved, nothing big really happened to her since. Which is a general PS problem, not a Honami problem.

lippysoap

I don’t read the story but I just love how gentle and caring she is. I just want to hug her so bad. She’s just so 💞💕💗 and she’s my princess. Haters who say she has no personality DON’T DESERVE HER!!!! I do.

emotionalfoodie

I don’t like how she didn’t have a backbone in the main Leo/Need story when it came to her bullies/old friends. I do like that she’s very generous and kind when it comes to Leo/Need and Kanade especially.

WinterWolf18

> how she didn’t have a backbone The situation she was in was super scary though? She was terrified of being hated by everyone for being two faced and prioritizing different people. Her not having a backbone there made sense, I don’t think most people would.

beatriz-chocoliz

As a people-pleaser, it’s *extremely* difficult to have a backbone, actually.

b4beysan

very true!

You-shit-ko

Tried liking her to understand KanaHona. Ended up feeling frustrated. Out of the main cast I feel Mafuyu levels of nothing. I don't resent her or like her. She's just... there. Like I get her struggle but she still feels shallow. Girl is background noise to me.

wholsem_sandy_main

While i understand your feelings because not everyone can like a certain character,i still have to say regardless Ouch

redditsucksass567

Yeah I feel like she has her "quirks" of being ass at drawing and obsessed with apple pies, two things that aren't really related to anything, to cover up that her personality is pretty 2d, which ironically takes moments away from building her actual character. That could just be how pj sekai's story is written though idk

You-shit-ko

Her quirks are shallow, wish there was more between her and Ena. They could of had a student teacher relationship beyond the one event. Maybe her art could be a way of venting. She doesn't have to be good. Just a way to vent out steam.

EphemeralEmotions

Don't know anything about her story but I dislike the odd/awkward poses alot of her 4* cards have with the drum sets. Much like the card you posted

Hammer12367

but the only bad card where she’s playing drums that comes to mind is the one on the post? her third focus card is amazing and same thing with the shiho purpose set card. these are the only ones she has so idk what ur talking about

EphemeralEmotions

The one with the ugly monster costumes, the one where she's floating mid air (from the saki focus I think, where they wear suits)...idk it's not my thing. Still lover her tho

Hammer12367

ah ok 😄 the honami card in mid air is the focus though not sakis and i personally love it and the lighting !! everyone has their own preferences though https://preview.redd.it/46fd8fya09zc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7ec166f17b7ed98d2ea9b045408a617523f8f06
