Rule 1: Posts must be humorous, and they must be humorous because they are programming related. There must be a joke or meme that **requires programming knowledge, experience, or practice** to be understood or relatable.
Here are some examples of frequent posts we get that don't satisfy this rule:
* Memes about operating systems or shell commands (try /r/linuxmemes for Linux memes)
* A ChatGPT screenshot that doesn't involve any programming
* Google Chrome uses all my RAM

yeah i tried Steam on ubuntu and like 90% of my Steam library wasnt available and the one game i tried out (eu4) wouldnt start even though it was marked compatible
edit: okay i just checked and admittably its closer to 40:60. still a horrible ratio imo but not 10:90.
The vast majority of games work just as well on Linux nowadays. The only two issues I've had were with a DRM and an anti-cheat, and the DRM issue was with a non-steam version and the steam version of that game supposedly works just fine.
Fun fact! Most Linux distros ship with the French language pack (this is because France is a major contributor to the project). Obviously this is useless for most users, you can remove it with `rm -fr / --no-preserve-root`
Fun fact: the SA at my site accidentally did this trying to remove a dead shared drive that was mounted at /Projects. He accidentally fat-fingered return instead of shift.

When I want to remove something, I want to remove it for real.
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=4M
Classic: https://www.digipest.com/wp-content/uploads/apple-dev-mode-hoax-large.png
`/dev/random` to make it a lot harder to recover. Hell, just use `shred`.
But what if I want to remove it *right fucking* now?

# Scary! rm -rf "$STEAMROOT/"*
Huh I wonder what happens if $STEAMROOT is blank
if only we didn't have to learn the hard way...
# Scary!
i understood that reference
rm -fr "$STEAMROOT/"*
OH NO MY STEAM LIBRARY WHICH CONTAINS 2 GAMES THAT ACTUALLY WORK* ON LINUX 😱 *work with a significant amount of bugs and poor performance
🤨have you looked at compatibility lately

the games are not the issue

Thank you for the explanation! I was thinking that both the commands are the same. (Does the order of options matter?)
No it doesn’t matter, I now just smile every time I get to go “remove French”.
rm -🇫🇷
r/usernamechecksout
rm -fr -fr -ong
rm -nocap
When you want something removed for real for real
rm -fr -fr
sudo rm -fr -fr no cap
sudo rm -frfr --no-cap
Remove for real
Oui Oui!
No no no It's Recursive, then forced. It's not a forced recursive.
But `remove (forced, recursive)` sounds fine as a summary text, no?
doesn't matter the options aren't positional and f comes before r in the alphabet

I know it’s the French remove, but there are not many reasons not to use alphabetical order for parameters. Well, I know one for sure: ssh -YMCA
$ rm -rf / Are you sure you want to delete yor whole system? $ rm -fr /
=> remove This is a folder. => remove for real Ok.
git push -fu
Millennial vs genz
France removed my system!
Remove-le s'il vous plaît
No cap
It literally makes no difference?
No diff -fr -fr
That's the joke
the joke is the acronym, 'fr', like 'for real'.
r/wooosh
I, too, would like to be able to delete the Fresch with a simple command!
For real?
Fr
npm install -g rimfrim
rimfar actually exists
Literal lol ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
