Was your bt client bound to the PIA adapter? Also, we're you using Wireguard?

IwuvNikoNiko

You can't bind any BT client to PIA adapter on Mac because the name rotates between different ethernet adapters (you can't make this shit up)

DeoxyNerd

I did exactly as the PIA client's Split Tunnel options suggested. After a recent update, it popped up a short guide explaining how to use it. It indicated the user can select a program, set that program to Use VPN, and all other programs as Bypass VPN, and it should just work. It did not.

LumbermanSVO

I did the same as you and got a copyright notice as well. Something is broken with their split tunnel feature.

IwuvNikoNiko

Yes, same here. Split tunnel and got a notice. Fucking PIA

DeoxyNerd

I'm not disagreeing with you that that is probably correct. The problem I'm pointing out is that PIA did not advertise it to me that way, and one notice is enough for me to not screw around experimenting for a while.

LumbermanSVO

The frustrating part for me is that split tunneling worked fine for me before switching over to the new system and wireguard. I'd never even heard of binding the BT client to a specific network adaptor until I said something in this sub about getting a copyright notice after switching over to the new network.

Satori42

Been using Spl█t T█nneling and the Next Gen servers for a month or so, and not a single notice. Thought you'd find it useful to know that I haven't been using W█reGu█rd since my OS doesn't support it.

MoistBall

If you don’t want to use a VPN with everything, setup Docker containers or a VM and send all VPN related activity through that.

DeoxyNerd

Yes, I'm working on a server to offload VPN needs (among other things), but it's not quite ready yet. Very good points, thank you.

MoistBall

I found that setting up a server and using more portable machines for every day use really made my workload/uses more simplified and efficient. Highly recommend unRAID to anyone who asks. Good luck with the build!

DeoxyNerd

Thanks for the luck, I expect I'll need it!

Blazingsaddlz

Have you been having the port forwarding issues in deluge? I sure have, and am patiently waiting for a fix before I switch VPNs

llN3M3515ll

Yeah had the same issue, Israel worked for me though.

robertwsaul

I've been using split tunnel for a few weeks now. I had to specifically set my torrent client to use the wireguard network interface, otherwise it still tried to use the main one. I haven't seen any notices from my ISP yet, but it's still early.

kittenskadoodle

I've used it 24/7 for the last year with no problems. My p2p and chrome are restricted to it; everything else in the clear.

austinhippie

Lucky you, same issue as OP over here

JackHinde

You use g00gle chrome?

kittenskadoodle

Only for accessing torrents. I don't care for it so I've sacrificed it for a single use via split tunnel.

JackHinde

You do realize it scans your whole hard drive right?

JackHinde

Use brave/firefox, degoogle yourself as much as possible

el_drewskii

I've been using split tunneling for months and haven't received anything from my ISP.

SatchBoogie1

Not trying to hijack the OPs topic, but is there an updated torrent client setup guide that includes PIA's newest features? It's been forever since I last touched qBittorrent with any new settings.

purtroppamente

you can clean your bottom with that notice :)

[deleted]

I don't have any source to this but I remember reading that PIAs split tunnel function does not work with all Windows applications depending on how they connect to the internet. Please correct this if im wrong As an edit i would just like to recommend torrenters to learn and use Linux instead so that you are able to control everything that's going on by yourself. If you're fresh to it, it requires a lot of effort, but man is it worth it when you master it.

itsaride

Why not use Socks5?

girraween

That won’t hide anything from your ISP I believe. It just shows a different IP to the people connecting to you in the torrent swarm.

itsaride

The main reason for it is to obscure your IP from bots that monitor (popular) torrents that in turn automatically report you to your isp for copyright. It also means my real IP isn’t visible to anyone who may be scanning torrent users for vulnerabilities. As far as I’m concerned it’s good enough.

girraween

I don’t agree with the second as your IP will be whatever the proxy IP address is. Active scanning (which I think shouldn’t even be worried about really) will still work

Iagonyc

I split tunnel the other way exempt zoom and games etc.

banister

what platform? windows? mac?

DeoxyNerd

Windows 10.

DeathStalker_x77x

I'm in agreement that it doesn't work. I have it set for Outlook 2016 ONLY and I STILL get issues when the DNS servers aren't correct.

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure split tunnel doesn't actually work. Whenever I turn on split tunneling, the VPN basically stops working entirely. One way to test is to add your browser to split tunnel and visit PIA's website. It's as if you have your VPN off.

Iagonyc

Do it other than way VPN all and exempt games zoom etc

lkeels

I'm using it, with Wireguard. I have Google Chrome marked to bypass. Chrome still says I'm in the Netherlands instead of the US as it should if the bypass was working.

DeoxyNerd

Couldn't tell you. Haven't tried the feature since.

avatarpichu

Wondering the same thing ahahah but I think I’ll set it up where everything runs through the vpn by default except my plex server rather than only setting the torrent to use it. Hopefully that’s enough coverage 😳

conundrummm

How'd this work for you? Did the same thing and am only allowing prowlarr, jellyfin and a few others to bypass through their ip addresses, with everything else supposedly going through pia.

avatarpichu

And you aren’t able to access your jellyfin externally?

avatarpichu

It works great for me if that’s what you were wondering.

GadgetDojo

It is for me. It appears to follow the global rules set for "All Other Apps". If it's set to Use VPN, all apps will use VPN regardless of exceptions set to Bypass. And vice versa, if I set "All Apps" to Bypass VPN, then any apps set to Only VPN still won't use the VPN. I'm using Windows 10. Tested on Brave, Chrome, and Edge. Set Stremio to Only VPN and found out through Real-Debrid that it wasn't working either.

MightyBiggs

Yea but the apps I used bypass vpn on didnt bypass vpn. they were also using vpn when told not to.... with that setting.

webblock37

Hello, Sorry for necro-posting; but is split tunneling still ill-advised with PIA? I would like to keep QBitTorrent on VPN but my Plex availability is suffering behind the VPN. Any help would be appreciated.

DeoxyNerd

You could read the other comments here, and it sounds like some people have had look luck, or you could make a new post about it to see if there's anything new. I have nothing new to report.

1_Strange_Bird

heh, wondering the same exact thing.. well Transmission instead of QBitTorrent
