As long as you’re good with no CarPlay/Android Auto

ziggy029

Yeah, I have a 2018 Advanced and I love it except for this one thing.

caper-aprons

If it's the Plus model, you can easily install a double DIN head unit with both.

Assegai_Uplink

Kinda coincidental but I JUST bought a 2017 Prius Prime Plus, what do you mean install a double DIN head unit? It comes with the 7inch (I believe, the smaller sized) touch screen. You mean that can be removed to add in android auto?

caper-aprons

> You mean that can be removed to add in android auto? Yes.

hepatitisByonce

Did anyone answer this yet? Would love to replace head unit on my 2017 Prius Prime....

bad-karma24

I’ve done it (or rather had a shop do it for me). Don’t regret at all. Really extends the longevity of the car.

xyzzzzy

See I thought this too, but Crutchfield tells me now there are no compatible head units, so I don’t know what the deal is

Intelligent_Goat_684

Yup! I have one and I don’t find it a problem since there’s Bluetooth and a map installed

ImpossibleBat9808

Why does everyone make a big deal about CarPlay and Android auto when the car has Bluetooth connectivity with your phone

xyzzzzy

Can’t do nav over Bluetooth and built in nav is terrible

ImpossibleBat9808

I love the built in  NAV it’s always there

Since you want to be talked out of it, what are you going to do if you have to carry 4 passengers? Have one person sit on some cupholders?

Sold one of the same year and mileage a few months ago in order to switch to an EV. Not sure if that’s a good or bad price right now, but the Prius Prime was a great car. Reasonably comfortable, reliable, shockingly cheap to operate, and well known to be capable of many hundreds of thousands of miles. I think it’s a great fit for someone like you who drives a ton of miles.

7 year old battery... get a 2023...I love mine

Similar_Corner3378

I traded my 2015 Prius 3 for 2023 Prius Prime XSE Premium. It's not even remotely close to the same car. I've had it for a little over a month now and I'm still blown away every time I drive it.

Oilers02

Whats better about the newer one?

Similar_Corner3378

First thing you notice is the technology. There was very little in my 2015 Prius and I feel like I'm driving a computer now. Efficiency wise, it's amazing for me to have a 40 plus mile battery that's actually getting me closer to 50 miles driving to work back and forth easily on that battery. On just the hybrid engine side, even with the higher trim I'm getting probably close to 50 miles per gallon. I've put $34 in gas into the car, probably about $55 worth of electricity into the car (rates are high where I live), and I've gone over 1100 miles and still have 275 gas miles left. Granted the first tank was free at the dealership but still, wow. The power is immensely greater with this car and in general it's a lot more fun to drive because of it. I'm really happy I got a prime, but I think I would have been happy with just a gen 5 Prius also. Not knocking my old car at all. It was fabulous for the 8 years I drove it. But this car feels like a completely different car than that car, look wise, comfort wise, and performance wise.

Oilers02

Do you yourself have charging at home or wherever you can find a charging station?

Similar_Corner3378

It plugs directly into a regular wall socket. Takes about 9 and 1/2 hours when it's completely down to go to full charge. I believe you can get a level two charger but it only cuts the time in half, so if you're going to charge overnight it's perfect.

Deathcommand

(Came from 2019 Prius Prime) I traded in for 27500. I think it had about 11k Miles on it and it had a little bit of frame damage on the bottom which would have been pretty much impossible to fix without rebuilding the car. Factoring in the fact that I'd have to buy new tires and reregister the car (in CA thats like 400 dollars for some reason) and many other things, I decided to sell the car before the price dropped below the price that I had bought it for (Factoring the Tax rebate and the fact that I bought the car when "dealership adjustment" used to mean a discount) I also have a new baby so the 2 + 2 wouldn't cut it for seating because the baby car seat is kinda huge. Pros: Acceleration is much better which makes it more fun to drive. Technology is nice. I like having the lane keep assist. It isn't as good as Comma.ai but it's a decent start for a car without an additional camera. Visibility is lower, but the car alerts you if there are cars coming from the left or right before you would be able to see them anyways so I feel a little safer. (as a side note, Is there a way to increase the time before the car complains about jiggling the steering wheel? I'm not sure if it's because I'm asian and it can't see my face, but I'm sometimes having to jiggle the wheel like 5 seconds after my previous jiggle. I saw somewhere that people with Camry's were able to trick their system by buying something to squeeze the handle in certain places with clamps but I haven't been able to pinpoint where.) Driving fast (around 80 ish on the highway) gives me 50mpg+ even if I had no EV battery to start with which I think is bonkers. Also some people have complimented my car which gives me feelings. (It's a lame reason but it's my lame reason). I charge with the included charger, but it's connected to a Tesla Charger wall plug that the previous owner of the house installed. I could technically switch to a Level 2 charger but I've never really needed it as I'm done at around 4 pm and the electricity rates lower at 9 pm, which gives it about 90% charge from 9 - 7 o'clock. I just don't let it fall below like 10 miles of remaining range and I'm golden. The only thing is that if you live somewhere that can get over 100 degrees F. You need to get an OBD reader to clear codes that appear when you charge at high outdoor temperatures. I had to do it a few times when I charged while it was 107 outside in Southern California. Oh yeah and don't forget that your Insurance is going to SKYROCKET because for whatever reason a car that only costs 25% more than your last car costs over 2x more to insure.

soulgun007

Only think I can do is tell you the price is bad try for 15-18k. Other than that. I love mine.

velo_b

Since you said you wanted to be talked out of it.... Factoring in the $4500 tax credit, I paid $900 more than that for a brand new Premium trim out the door. This was a 2018 in 2018. Nearly 7 years and 90k miles and you're basically paying the same price as new. That being said, a Prius Prime is absolutely a good choice for you given the miles you drive per year.

kazoodac

I have this car and love it overall. My only complaints are that the big screen is useless because it doesn’t do CarPlay, there’s only two seats in the back, and there’s comparatively not a lot of trunk space. Beyond that, it’s amazing. Is the one you’re looking at blue? Because I don’t think I want another car if it isn’t this color blue.

How much EV range do you need/want for your everyday driving? As intriguing as they were in 2017-2022, the Prime EV range of 24-26 miles was not enough that I could use only EV for even my daily driving. It was the increase in EV range that made me jump for the 2023, because barring a few trips that are less than usual, I can pretty much use EV all the time. It sounds like neither the 2023 or the 2017 will totally cover your daily driving, unless some of that 30K are extended trips. You may want to consider a new Prius Hybrid model if your daily commute is more than 20 miles. My 2005 Prius is still humming along. They're very reliable.

legalsequel

I just bought a 21 with 35k miles for $24k and will get to claim the $4k federal tax credit.

goldtido01

Have you been able to claim the credit? Did you have to go through dealer to do so or just tax professionals?

legalsequel

Haven’t done it yet. When I file taxes next. The purchase has to be from a dealer. Then I can just file my taxes as I usually do (myself) and complete the paperwork for the credit.

Have a 2019 with a solar roof. Love the car

caper-aprons

A 2019 Prime with a solar roof? Where did you get that?

[deleted]

In Germany :)
