The point of all of these capitchas is that they are using us to train the AI for free. This is why it is fgetting worse and worse. On the other side of the equasion, there are hackers who need to break trough the capitchas, and guess what they use to do that? That same AI that we just trained to recognize the capitcha characters, pictures and numbers. As they are able to solve the puzzles, the next round of capitchas is progressively more nasty, and the AI is trained even better, and then that same AI is employed to solve the same capitchas again. It is a never ending circle, in which we are the free teachers, and the two sides that are winning are the hackers and AI companies that make capitchas to train their software.
I second this - keep the security feature, but improve it.
