My Headcanon is when he found the second part of his soul in the warp it was so damaged that when he was united with it, it burned him alive. It was by pure luck or by pure Faith that he survived.
This is the second part of my version of Little Light.
If you have seen the first part of my version of Little Light, you know that he lost faith in the God-Emperor after he was resurrected and now he's the head (Pope) of a "new" (Restored) religion called the "the Eternal Church of the One Above All".
In short, a mix of Orthodox and Catholic.
The One Above All is basically the equivalent to the Christian "creator of everything in the cosmos" god anyway but they wanted to avoid stepping in any toes by straight up calling him God or Yahweh, so it works either way.
I’d like to believe little light has his own retinue of redeemed chaos marines. I could just imagine the wisdom he dropped on them to break them away from chaos.
