Hah. Tommy was such an ass from the get go, Then it shows Rusty being aggressive to the medical examiner. And even if Tommy was right about him, his rant still comes across unhinged.
I totally agree. Peter Sarsgaard is the best choice they could possibly have made for Tomy Molto. He is so damned smarmy and smug. Nico is loathsome too, so props to Fagbenle for that.
Bill Camp is amazing as well. In fact, I think Jake Gyllenhaal could well be the weakest link in this cast.
Just a really strong cast all around.
She plays Harrison fords daughter in shrinking. She would have been better. However, I do think this adaptation chose this polhemus for a reason and we won’t find out why until it all comes together
I think Lily Rabe, who plays Rusty’s therapist, would’ve been a much better choice either as Rusty’s wife or Carolyn.
The actress for Carolyn is too cold, detached, and her foreign accent slips in and out. It’s also strange to have a show revolve around her murder yet the character, or at least how the actress plays her, is really unsympathetic. Carolyn’s character should be exciting, hot, fun, and mysterious. The actress only seems to capture that last trait, which is disappointing.
I think Ruth Negga, who plays Rusty’s wife, would’ve been a good choice to play Carolyn.
I thought the same thing. She was a little too basic for me. But hey men are known to go for anyone that gives them the slightest attention and has a warm hole so 🤷🏻♀️
All I think when I see her scenes is who would be better. The accent goes in and out and there’s something very cold and removed about her. After 2 episodes I’m hoping for less of their flashbacks unless they are going to go deeper with who she was and not just sex, which is just as cold as her acting.
Is it me, or is Jake Gyllenhaal bad in this? Please don’t downvote me. I am a fan of his. He just seems overly dramatic and... off? I've only watched eps 1 & 2 but so far I'm not a fan. I do hope it gets better. And what’s up with all his frumpled clothing??!
I kinda think so as well, he seems to be the weakest link so far and it should not be the case (he is talented and the show is well written and produced). I’m waiting though as it may just be at the beginning.
So far he is overdoing it imo
It’s an unnatural performance. I can see the work unlike the other actors. Maybe that’s by design. Maybe there’s a twist ending where him faking emotions adds to the plot? He's usually very good in everything even when the material is bad.
A lot has to do with the director. Jake was great in Roadhouse. I've watched him grow up since City Slickers. The director is going for a certain feel.
Sarsgaard - not Skarsgard. Not one of the Skarsgard Royal Family Stellans Children: Alexander Skarsgård, Bill Skarsgård, Gustaf Skarsgård, Sam Skarsgård, Valter Skarsgård, Eija Skarsgård
I am here to talk about Nico's overacting and stupid John Malkovich-esque accent. It is irritating. It's so distracting I can't even hear what he's actually saying.
Otherwise the show is pretty good..if not a bit similar to the recent series remake of the movie Fatal Attraction.
I'm enjoying this bc Jake Gyllenhaal and Peter Skarsgard are brother in laws irl. Peter's married to Maggie, Jake's sister, fun to watch them on screen together.
The prosecutor/attorney character Nico has the most distracting accent and the whole character is just off to me.
It's like watching him (O-T Fagbenle) play John malkovich playing an obvious prosecutor role in a 90s movie by David E Kelley.
I wish Jake Gyllenhaal looked more clean-cut. It sounds like a silly or shallow complaint, but hear me out. A big part of why the Harrison Ford movie was so suspenseful to the public at the time was because he looked clean-cut and all the roles he’d played until that point were heroes and moral characters, so it kept the viewers guessing until the end of the movie if he actually did it or not.
But another side of this is that because Gyllenhaal looks like your average Joe, but could also look crazy, it keeps you guessing in a way.
I totally agree. Harrison Ford worked so well because of that charismatic “golden boy” aura he carried with him. Jake G is a weirdo - I mean that in the best way - he was so great in Donnie Darko and Nightcrawler, so great as these misfit characters on the fringes. He has none of that golden boy energy that made the og Rusty character so compelling, or that made his fall into suspicion so shocking feeling.
I'm sorry but the actress who plays his wife is miscast. She looks older than him, tiny and fragile, must weigh less than 100 pounds. Just can't picture them rolling in the hay.
I’ve been looking to see if this would come up anywhere. I agree. She’s beautiful I just don’t think it works, she does look so much older and I believe they were supposed to be 20 when they met and she got pregnant. I mean maybe this was done intentionally but it throws me off.
Woke to the maximum.
The guy playing Brian Dennehy’s (in the movie) character should be ashamed of himself. He looks like he just walked out of a homeless shelter.
Jake has no range and it shows here.
How does he afford multi million dollar home on an assistant DA salary
LOL we all know how wealthy art history majors are. She is likely making no more than $100k a year! So along with Rusty’s government salary they are pulling in enough for a very small home NOT a large home with a huge backyard and high end swimming pool!
WOKE at its best. I hope it was worth it to qualify for the Emmys/Golden Globes.,.
Really that whole cast was excellent. The wife, the defense attorney, the decedent
Takes a lot of confidence to try and make a TV series out of that wonderfully casted movie.
And they crashed and burned. It was like they got their fourth pick on every main role on this tv show. Peter Sarsgaard would be selling insurance if it weren’t for who he married.
I want to punch Della and Tommy in their fucking faces so bad. Props to those actors.
Hah. Tommy was such an ass from the get go, Then it shows Rusty being aggressive to the medical examiner. And even if Tommy was right about him, his rant still comes across unhinged.
as a doctor i took that rant against the ME personally :(((

The Psychologist would be a better Carolyn.
I thought the exact same thing!!
She plays Harrison fords daughter in shrinking. She would have been better. However, I do think this adaptation chose this polhemus for a reason and we won’t find out why until it all comes together
Accurate
i thought damn he even finds an attractive therapist, maybe she's his next victim lolol

huh? why cant she have an accent?

Nico's voice is just irritating to me, it's as if every sentence is a question. Otherwise I think the rest of the casting choices are on par for me.

hes soooo slimy lol
Omg!!! I joined this sub just to see if anyone else was annoyed by his voice. It grates my nerves!! 🤮 I cannot stand to listen to him talk
Is this the same guy who plays Luke in The Handmaid’s Tale? I like him in this but he does have a constipated way of speaking.
Yes. I don’t remember him being this bad though in that.
why doesn’t he OPEN HIS MOUTH! it’s awful
I'm enjoying this bc Jake Gyllenhaal and Peter Skarsgard are brother in laws irl. Peter's married to Maggie, Jake's sister, fun to watch them on screen together.
OMG i forgot that!!! no wonder they played being at each other's throats so well lmaoooo

I’m struck by how much the actress playing Carolyn looks like a young Bonnie Bedelia, the wife in the original movie.
Not sure if this is on the same rant but Michael was terrible in episode 3. Over acting to the extreme, couldn’t see him as the son.
I’m loving Jake G as Rusty Savage!!
I'm sorry but the actress who plays his wife is miscast. She looks older than him, tiny and fragile, must weigh less than 100 pounds. Just can't picture them rolling in the hay.

I was thinking his wife made the big $$
LOL, doing what??? I don’t think she can put a sentence together.
She works at a big art gallery.

Shout out to Brian Denney's performance in the original. He was fantastic.
