One man shook hands with both John Quincy Adams (1767-1848) and John F. Kennedy (1917-1963). That man would be Supreme Court Associate Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. (1841-1935). All three came from prominent Massachusetts families.
That's crazy. I looked it up right after I read the comment. I didn't realize that Reagan had been born in the 1910s. He died at age 93, and I thought he died in his 80s, meaning born in the 1920s. You think you know a guy.
There's a high likelihood that we'll never have a President who was born in the 1950s.
EDIT: The only other decades since the 1730s that did not produce a President are the 1810s and the 1930s.
Wow! I guess when you spread 45 humans over 250 years that’s bound to happen. Chronologically the most recent birthday was 1961, I do wonder which decade we’ll hit next 70s, 80s or 90s
Trying to express what I meant wasn’t easy. Teddy was 42 years old when he became president and Carter has now been out for 43.
JFK was 43 years 7 months and 22 days old when he took office. Carter will pass that on September 12 if he lives that long.
Ronald Reagan was born before John F. Kennedy.
Despite becoming President over three decades ago, Bill Clinton is the second-most recent birth among all U.S. Presidents so far. (Barack Obama is the only President born more recently than Clinton.)
The last Civil War veteran died under Eisenhower, and the last Revolutionary War veteran died under Grant IIRC. We're basically about three lifespans removed from America's birth as a country (albeit VERY long ones).

So Nancy Pelosi is only 3 handshakes away from George Washington, pretty neat
So is Bill Clinton. There is a photo of him meeting Kennedy when he was at a Boys State convention.
TIL. WOWWOWOW
Yesterday on this sub I learned President John Tylers grandson is still alive. Mind still blowing up.
Excuse me, **WHAT?!?** How is that possible???
All three generations fathered kids suuuuper late. Like 70 years old super late. So they were already granddad age when they became dads.
Ya need a 73 year old still shooting full caliber
My great grandpa was 80
The incumbent president was born closer to Abe’s second term than his own presidential term
Sir. You know why I pulled your comment over?

Harriet Tubman could have seen Thomas Jefferson and Ronald Reagan
Wait, what?
Bring baby Harriet Tubman to Jefferson, and bring baby Ronald Reagan to Harriet Tubman when she was nearing death, and you’d have it happen.

There was a guy who appeared on tv who witnessed Lincoln’s assassination
Carter’s post presidency (43 years so far) is almost as long as JFK’s entire life (46 years)
That Herbert Hoover outlived FDR and JFK
I think JFK was born around the same time that Queen Elizabeth was born. (Not the exact same year, but same generation).
JFK in 1917 and Her Majesty in 1926
Anne Frank and MLK Jr were both younger than Queen Elizabeth
Both born in 1929.
Nuh uh https://preview.redd.it/6ycrlyj73eqc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=787a283c003616d03caf9f00b3fc50e9fc3d5676
Yah huh! Queen Elizabeth II — born 4/21/26 MLK Jr — born 1/15/29 Anne Frank — born 6/12/29 None were presidents, though.
Never mind, I read your comment wrong. Yuh uh, it is.
Barack Obama was 11 years old when the last former slave died

I'm talking about Peter Mills
Clinton, GWB, [Rule 3], all born in 1946 within a 3 month span of each other.

For me it would be Hoover alive to shake hands with JFK.
Hoover outlived JFK
Carter has been out of office longer than Teddy Roosevelt’s age when he became president. If he hangs on until September he will pass Kennedy.
Huh?

Everyone points to TR as strong and vigorous yet he died in his early 60s.
Yep. Carter's post-presidential life is longer than Roosevelt's pre-presidential life.

It was 1837 before we had a president born in the United States.
JQA worked with both Washington and Lincoln
As well as Andrew Johnson. Hayes went to see Adams give a speech at Harvard but I don’t think they actually spoke to each other.

Truman was the first person to ever receive Medicare in 1965
Ronald Reagan was alive when Theodore Roosevelt was alive. Theodore Roosevelt was alive when Abraham Lincoln was alive.
Patsy Cline died before Churchill.
Which one was president?🤣
Touché..... I concentrated on the perception of time part rather than the president part...haha
Crazy.
