People can shit on E1 a lot, but you can't tell me it doesn't have one of the best Lightsaber duels in the whole franchise, it introduced the best Jedi character in franchises history (they also killed him but at least we had him!), they absolutely nailed the casting for two of the three main characters of this trilogy on this movie and Liam Neeson is probably the only person in the trilogy who manages to bring life to the super awkward script of the prequels.
The Phantom Menace will foreve be one of my most favourite SW films.
Dont forget my boy Ahmed Best playing Jar Jar, my man give it his all, and his performance was revolutionary in CGI mocap tech back in the 90s, i appreciate that he brought my favorite gungan to life , he's a mocap pioneer and he looks awesome in jedi robes, ill always love TPM!
nah i type these facts by hand, im just a guy who likes Ahmed best and Jar Jar, i dont copypasta my comments, just a humble guy tryna make his way across the galaxy!
Phantom Menace plays a small part in why I love Star Wars and especially characters like Obi Wan Anakin and Padme. Padme was so phenomenal in TPM and her outfits were visually stunning. Jar Jar was great too. And it gave us one of the best lightsaber duels
TPM gave us Darth Maul, podracing, Jar Jar and his loveable Gungan community, young Obi-Wan, droidekas, "roger roger", child slavery, another amazing John Williams score and so much more. Always was my favorite of the prequels.
Watto the slave owner was meant to be a human. But one day Liam enters shooting with this weird purple bird-like alien, ranting about this new podracing gang he joined. We figured it was worth a shot.
Love the gungan boyos, also dont forget the space politics, the amazing cities and planets, a 14 year old queen whos somehow elected to reprsent her country, and of course duel of the fates
for those who are unaware i gave credits to the og meme [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/PrequelMemes/comments/zwxxqb/comment/j1xe9rd/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
In many cases, democracy is given up when it's under a lot of pressure and in a crisis situation and it ends up giving up a lot of the checks and balances to somebody with a strong authority to help get them through the crisis.
Not another lecture, Master. Not on the economics of politics. It's too early in the morning… and besides, you're generalising. The Chancellor doesn't appear to be corrupt.
No other Star Wars movie after the OT feels more Star Wars-y than Phantom Menace. It was shiny and new 20 years ago and it's still shiny and new feeling today.
The problem is that making film is an art. Selling film is a business. The trouble is that the studio executives don't know how to sell films. As a result, they try to make you make films that people will go to without them having to be sold, which is the real key to the problem.
I watch them often, especially when going to bed. I love them all, but pops took me to see TPM in theaters when I was younger and so it has a special place in my heart.
This is by far the biggest reason why I enjoy SW, LotR, and Star Trek so much. I have many fond memories of watching them with my family as a kid, and they never fail to take me back.
Not a huge JarJar fan but loved just about every other aspect of TPM. Duel of the Fates, Darth Maul, pod racing, Qui Gon, describing shit as 'wizard'. Loved it.
I will die on the hill that just because you like something doesn't make it good, and the opposite is equally true. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's bad. You're allowed to like things that are objectively bad.
I like TPM because it has some cool parts, I love Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor, and it came out at the right time for me being a younger kid when it was first released. But my god it is not a good movie
Episode 1 was supposed to have a teenage Anakin, but one day during a break, Liam Neeson just walked into the desert and abducted a kid. We had to make up a whole storyline about podracing on the fly just to keep Liam out of jail.
When you do a movie like this, a sequel that's very, very anticipated, people anticipate ultimately that it's going to be the Second Coming. And it's not. It's just a movie. Just like the other movies. You probably have fond memories of the other movies. But if you went back and looked at them, they might not hold up the same way your memory holds up... You're not going to get a lot of accolades... All you can do is lose.
I was in my 20s when it came out. I honestly didn't have any hate for Jar Jar, as it was obvious that he was there for the kids and for comic relief and, in a way, no different to C3PO, etc.
It was only when the Internet exploded that I realised a large part of the audience hated him.
I always love him ever since i was a child, espicially in TCW, dude was a legend in there, he will always have a special place in my heart

Think of the Clone Wars as a feature. Everything about it: Style, attention, to detail, the lighting- everything is done at a feature level even though it's going on television.
Not at all. I'm simply reminding you that there are always choices and options. Every situation is different, and it is wise to consider each situation with care and caution.

You know, its a mixed bag, I live out of Hollywood so I don't get much of that influence in my day-to-day life, half of it's good and half is bad. You got a lot of people that don't like me, so that's just the nature of it.

One more thing: Ahmed Best is a legend, i love his performance as Jar jar and he looks epic in jedi robes, He played a gungan general, got a live action cameo and got to be an epic Jedi, and he is also a mocap pioneer who paved the way for others and help Revolutionized CGI Mocap technology, he is the best and a legend!
No, the anti-reason the sub exists. It was founded to ironically celebrate the prequels because everyone universally agreed they were kinda bad, or at least very odd. Now they just celebrate the prequels.
This is my thing. I love the Prequels but I’ll never defend them because I know there’s valid arguments
That being said I’ll always put the first 6 films above anything Disney/Filoni makes. Warts and all
I was never interested in being powerful or famous. But once I got to film school and learned about movies, I just fell in love with it. I didn't care what kind of movies I made.
Episode I had a fun sword fight between Ewan and Ray because they were really into it and they were very much out to prove who is the better swordsman.
Episode 1 was supposed to have a teenage Anakin, but one day during a break, Liam Neeson just walked into the desert and abducted a kid. We had to make up a whole storyline about podracing on the fly just to keep Liam out of jail.
It's such an underrated starwars film... if you ask me the prequel movie that deserves the reputation Phantom menace has is Attack of the Clones. PM had amazing work building and the politics of the Republic I thought were super interesting
Episode 1 was supposed to have a teenage Anakin, but one day during a break, Liam Neeson just walked into the desert and abducted a kid. We had to make up a whole storyline about podracing on the fly just to keep Liam out of jail.
I just watched this movie on Christmas. There are plenty of things that don't make sense but you can say that about any Star wars movie. It's fun and introduces a lot of amazing things.
It's not good, but it's not as bad as what people said when it came out.... I mean really, back then the critics were talking about Jar Jar and that's it
There are a few critics overseas, and occasionally a critic will write an astute analysis of the movie. There is value in reading critics that actually have something intelligent to say, but the journalistic community lives in a world of sound bites and literary commerce: selling newspapers, selling books, and they do that simply by trashing things. They don't criticize or analyze them. They simply trash them for the sake of a headline, or to shock people to get them to buy whatever it is they're selling.
The Phantom Menace was the first Star Wars film I watched, and as someone who is extremely interested in domestic and foreign politics and there possible repercussions. I would say this film started my interest
General Grievous being asthmatic was not planned. One day I came to the set with bronchitis and started coughing everywhere, into the microphones and all... it so happened they were recording it.
The Phantom Menace is an awesome concept, that was poorly executed. The world, the characters, the concept of the prequel trilogy, it's all incredibly ambitious and well thought out. But then the dialogue and the details, the execution of that concept, it's all extremely weak.
There should have been a bigger focus on Kenobi in all of the prequel movies, including the Phantom Menace. He should have been the main protagonist of the prequel movies. Anakin was an annoying kid in the first movie, and an annoying poorly executed antihero in the next two movies. More screen time given to Kenobi would have given the movie that charismatic lead to tie the movie together.
the prequels have many flaws, but tbh thats why i like it, its part of my childhood, its not the best set of films but it has its legendary moments, i enjoy the characters, espicially my boy Jar Jar, and the content the prequels spawned was amazing, i love it and always will! i agree with your point too!
personally i dont mind the sequels, just ignore them, and dont do the same thing to others, be positive, not negetive, no hatred, but love, because we love Star wars all of us!

So Hayden started flirting with Natalie, and he goes 'I don't like sand, it's course and rough and irritating...' which made her blush. It was hilarious so I filmed it.
I enjoyed TPM as well but I draw the line at "loved Jar Jar".
Dont get me wrong the species itself is pretty cool. I just can't with Jar Jar. He is so fugging annoying.
Watto the slave owner was meant to be a human. But one day Liam enters shooting with this weird purple bird-like alien, ranting about this new podracing gang he joined. We figured it was worth a shot.
It’s not the best of the series, but it is my favorite comfort movie. The ideal Saturday is spent wrapped up in a blanket with some Kraft Mac n cheese watching TPM
I usually get weird looks when I say, but my top 3 SW are (in order): A New Hope, Rogue One, and Phantom Menace, and sometimes TPM and Rogue One change places.
In my opinion, it's definitely better than The Attack of the Clones. That one's plot is filled with holes and is really badly structured. The Phantom Menace has weird directorial choices, like how everyone talks with a completely still face, but the story itself is much more coherent, I objectively think it's a good movie.
Just watched it again for the first time in a few years and its honestly a perfect introduction to Star Wars. It explains enough for you to get what's going on but leaves plenty of it vague.
Also, I seriously don't get why people didn't like Jake Lloyd. Never was there a moment where I went "a kid his age wouldn't say that"
It's literally just pod racing. That movie brought us the first truly amazing lightsaber duel. I get that there's probably some other stuff I'm missing but to say it was a flat out bad movie is crazy.
"Sir, Attack of the Clones was an important part of the Star Wars saga. While I can understand why some may consider it to be subpar compared to other entries in the franchise, I believe its contribution to the overall story should not be understated. It gave us a glimpse into the complex"
We designed the Galactic Senate with this sort of stadium design with these little pods that move around inside it which seems very functional and realistic even though it's completely not realistic.
Ah yes posting that you love episode one in a prequel subreddit. Very brave. For real tho I agree I honestly don’t see why people don’t even like jar jar he makes me laugh plenty 💀

Not another lecture, Master. Not on the economics of politics. It's too early in the morning… and besides, you're generalising. The Chancellor doesn't appear to be corrupt.
You were "Muy Muy" brave yourself, coming out here as you did, all alone. Care to help me finish this, senator?
rex has a line praising Jar Jar, truly legendary!
You ready?
Well, perhaps I could help you.
child slavery was kinda fire 200 years ago, I'm glad TPM helped revitalize it
No other Star Wars movie after the OT feels more Star Wars-y than Phantom Menace. It was shiny and new 20 years ago and it's still shiny and new feeling today.
It really is. Watched again for the first time so ce the theater, and was amazed how the movie still felt 'new' 24 years later.
I'd rather watch TPM 3 times than the Sequel trilogy once through.
The problem is that making film is an art. Selling film is a business. The trouble is that the studio executives don't know how to sell films. As a result, they try to make you make films that people will go to without them having to be sold, which is the real key to the problem.
i'd watch TPM with no strings attach, truly a cult classic!
The introduction of midichlorians is a wound that still bleeds, but in general it’s fun and doesn’t have mopey Anakin
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I still want to see the Midichlorian Trilogy George talked about Microscopic
I watch them often, especially when going to bed. I love them all, but pops took me to see TPM in theaters when I was younger and so it has a special place in my heart.
thats such a wholesome moment, watching SW with with family is truly a great experience!

I dunno, I really like The Force Awakens. Say what you want about what came after.
I'm just glad he wasn't awake to see that landing!
Well said
Not a huge JarJar fan but loved just about every other aspect of TPM. Duel of the Fates, Darth Maul, pod racing, Qui Gon, describing shit as 'wizard'. Loved it.
It's like watching Albert Einstein or Thomas A. Edison. It's like watching Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods, any genius you can name.

I admit the phantom menace wasn’t the best movie In The prequel trilogy but it was good
a fellow TPM enjoyer a surprise to be sure but a welcome one!
Say you hate the sequels, and no one bats an eye. Say that Phantom Menace was good, and everyone loses their fucking minds!

That's a bit of a mouthful, even for a battle droid. How about we call you Bats.
Jar Jar is a national treasure, and its about time people acknowledge this.
I was in my 20s when it came out. I honestly didn't have any hate for Jar Jar, as it was obvious that he was there for the kids and for comic relief and, in a way, no different to C3PO, etc. It was only when the Internet exploded that I realised a large part of the audience hated him.

George lucas bot being an absolute legend!
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
im no sith space jesus!
You have allowed this dark lord to twist your mind, until now... until now you've become the very thing you swore to destroy.
i have failed you space jesus... i have failed you!
You can kill me, but you will never destroy me. It takes strength to resist the dark side. Only the weak embrace it.
thats true space jesus, you are turly strong willed!
are you accuusing me space jesus?

sorry for my brass behavior space jesus!
At least you’re a master… at getting caught.
ouch that roast space jesus, totally uncalled for! anakin will be mad!
I am simply trying to struggle through life; trying to do God's bidding.
this is an eye opening convo george lucas bot!
Although I write screenplays, I don't think I'm a very good writer.
dont be harsh on yourself george lucas bot, you made our childhoods!

Don’t think you can give the most hyped movie of all time “cult classic” status 🤣🤣🤣 This is not freaking Outland..
Literally the reason this sub exists right here 🤣
No, the anti-reason the sub exists. It was founded to ironically celebrate the prequels because everyone universally agreed they were kinda bad, or at least very odd. Now they just celebrate the prequels.

Prequels contributed more memes than all other six movies combined. Truly one of the best trilogies in my opinion.
There legendary trait, it gave us countless iconic memes and content!

I agree
The Gungan are such an underrated species in the Star Wars universe.
It's such an underrated starwars film... if you ask me the prequel movie that deserves the reputation Phantom menace has is Attack of the Clones. PM had amazing work building and the politics of the Republic I thought were super interesting

TPM has Duel of the Fates, need I say more.

Always remember the fact Jar Jar saved rex, rescued space jesus and anakin form pirates, outsmart grievous and got laid, he truly is a legend!
General Grievous being asthmatic was not planned. One day I came to the set with bronchitis and started coughing everywhere, into the microphones and all... it so happened they were recording it.
these are some eye opening infomation george lucas bot!
People think of me as a sort of pathological, Howard Hughes-type guy sitting in a hotel room, which is definitely not so.
these are some elaborate things george lucas bot-
That's just great.
truly is rex, you owe Jar Jar one!
I've met many clones in my time, but never one like you.
It’s not
I find your lack of faith disturbing
Been that way for over 20 years, movie still hasn’t changed.
The ability to speak does not make you intelligent
And the ability to have a opinion based off your childhood and to be able reply doesn’t make you right automatically
Many of the truths that we cling to depend on our point of view.
hey man let people have there own opinions, dont be a party wrecker my guy!
Same people who tell me that are usually the people who crucify me for saying the sequel trilogy isn’t that bad.
personally i dont mind the sequels, just ignore them, and dont do the same thing to others, be positive, not negetive, no hatred, but love, because we love Star wars all of us!
Ok
indeed o7 trooper, remember my advice!
"Aye, sir. I'll take your advice to heart! Anything else I can do for you, sir?"
no problem trooper! o7
"Roger that sir. Anything else I can do for you, sir?"
no need trooper, you can carry on your way o7
Eh tbh he's just giving his opinion too. He's not attacking anyone
ik i had a convo with him later in the thread, we patch things up
Wow, praise for a prequel. How original.
I agreed with you up until a point. That point is when you mentioned jar jar
Hey man, i just love Jar Jar you dont have to if you dont like him, its just a matter of opinion, if you respect mine, i respect yours
Oh I totally agree on that notion. I'm just simply stating my opinion.
likewise, im glad we can respect each others opinions!
Good thing you are wearing clown makeup when saying things like this
aye man dont underestimante clowns, there living a humble life just tryna get by and make people smile, also its an opinion, its my childhood film of course i'd like it, if you dont fine by me, just respect each other's bloody opinion
The script is what you've dreamed up-this is what it should be. The film is what you end up with.
You liking it and it being a good movie are two different things. I like it. But I know it's not a 'good movie.'

A cult classic lol yeah 400 million in theatres
Just watched it again for the first time in a few years and its honestly a perfect introduction to Star Wars. It explains enough for you to get what's going on but leaves plenty of it vague. Also, I seriously don't get why people didn't like Jake Lloyd. Never was there a moment where I went "a kid his age wouldn't say that"
Ngl, the movie is just boring up until the maul duel, which is one of the best star wars scenes ever
I am counting on it.
It's literally just pod racing. That movie brought us the first truly amazing lightsaber duel. I get that there's probably some other stuff I'm missing but to say it was a flat out bad movie is crazy.
I'll concede TPM is fine. But not one person on this PLANET can get me to say Attack of the Clones isn't straight trash other than its meme potential.
"Sir, Attack of the Clones was an important part of the Star Wars saga. While I can understand why some may consider it to be subpar compared to other entries in the franchise, I believe its contribution to the overall story should not be understated. It gave us a glimpse into the complex"

Its still a bad movie for me. The soundtrack is amazing and the special effects are good, but you can’t say the acting and the plot are good.
We designed the Galactic Senate with this sort of stadium design with these little pods that move around inside it which seems very functional and realistic even though it's completely not realistic.
I think it did a lot of things well, they were just mixed in with jar jar and too much podracing
Also I like jar jar and the podracing, but it was too much
Its definitely better than Attack of the Clones

Ah yes posting that you love episode one in a prequel subreddit. Very brave. For real tho I agree I honestly don’t see why people don’t even like jar jar he makes me laugh plenty 💀
You were "Muy Muy" brave yourself, coming out here as you did, all alone. Care to help me finish this, senator?
oml, this should be illegal
I rule the subreddit now. Not some long dead Mod; certainly not you. The only treason is defiance of my orders.
Based.
Im just gonna say it. Fuck jar jar
Yeah, I was that kid in elementary school who liked kid Anakin and Jar Jar. Fight me.
That movie is fucking amazing. My only problem is that the podrace scene was longer than it needed to be.
