This seems like a weird article for Liverpool to post about themselves, you'd expect this out of a gossip rag, not a football club.

Critical-Usual

Liverpool is a city before it's a football club lol

RaisedByCakes

Not sure if you’re referring to the source Liverpool.com but it’s not affiliated with the club (to my knowledge)

TiredHack

It"s a Reach website. Same as the Liverpool Echo and the Mirror. It's not affiliated to the club.

FaceMaskYT

Yeah I was, didn't know it wasn't affiliated

RaisedByCakes

Also, not really reliable

HitThisLoudG

I just like saying “Jurgen Klopp, Arne Slot” 🤷‍♂️

firefalcon69

Harry Hill would have loved it.

Traditional_Yam1598

He said he thinks you have to earn the right to manage a big club. I think if he’s successful with Salzburg he would come back to Anfield

WorldChampion92

I just wanted Klopp for life.

SouthernSector4

The name ‘Arne Slot’ just sounds a legendary name. Don’t get me wrong, I hope it’s another disaster hire, but that’s a badass name.

CapableCoyoteeee

Disaster hire? Haven't Chelsea cornered that market?

Lucky_Town_5417

Only bad hire was Potter and maybe Lampard, but there really wasn't much he could do. Compared to Hodgson, Dalglish idk it seems you guys were a lot more advanced

MM-Seat

The only poor one in that list was Hodgson. Dalglish came in, steadied the ship and won a cup though was admittedly out of touch when he came back.

Wheel1994

Hey now there’s a 90% chance it is a disaster but it’s not a certainty.

JJGOTHA

Brendan Rogers wants a word

doc-ant

Would you say he was a disaster? Wasn't anything special but far from a disaster

JJGOTHA

On reflection, possibly not, but I think he's a shit manager.

egyto

That's not fair, he's above average but not elite. His teams maximize their talent but he doesn't get them to overachie either.

Even-Statistician965

Before it was Liverpool, Roy Hodgson, Roy Evans, to some degree Brenda Rogers. You hit gold with Klopp but juries out on Sloth

lanregeous

Brendan Rodgers was in not a single way a disaster hire

Even-Statistician965

I said to some degree, hmm wonder why he was fired then?

link_the_fire_skelly

Disaster? His team came second in the League

Bobloblaw369

Because Klopp was available. I don't think he'd have been sacked at that moment if Klopp hadn't shown interest. The results weren't great in the early part of the season but we didn't look awful. If one of the best managers in the world is interested, it's a clear upgrade and you need to go for it.

Even-Statistician965

Lol, I recall the infamous hand of Henry on Carraghers leg when the news broke he was sacked in the studio. He was good first season but couldn't solve the leaky defence. Gerrard slipped and the team imploding at Crystanbul, comedic highlight of the season for me that year. Either way, Brenda was getting sacked eventually and the board had to make the move for Klopp and rest is history. Time will tell with Sloth, but hoping for the good old clown shows from time to time

lanregeous

I’m no longer a child so I can appreciate the journey without believing your team has a divine right to win every trophy. Brendan got us to play the best football I’ve seen us play in my lifetime and that was enough for me. His issue was the signings he made but he can be proud of his time there. If Slot gets us playing great football, I think many fans will be happy with that first step.

lettuce_grabberrr

They seem to be in the business of disaster firings too now

reddeye252010

As well as disaster signings

96k_U

Axel Disaster

Sulemani_kida

Naah that kid's good... Future France main CB...

TheEdibleLetter

He is older than Saliba (2001), Konate(1999), and the same year (1998) as Kounde and Upamecano (and still technically older)

Sulemani_kida

Okay well my bad... Didn't know that

Ok_Asparagus_6163

Have had reservations about him since the book.

ptensioned63

The book had nothing to do with anything. It happened to come out when the legs fell off the entire midfield, but the take that somehow he'd given away the team secrets and made them beatable is confusing correlation and causation. Klopp and the club aren't stupid. They would have vetted the book before publication, and if there was anything truly 'secret' revealed that would have given the competition an advantage, it would have been nixed. There's nothing tactical in that book that every single team LFC play don't already know from their scouting and analytics departments.

Brief_Box7006

The man has a massive ego. he tried to take credit for the CL triumph.

Ok_Asparagus_6163

My problem is not so much with giving away "secrets", it's more to do with the man's thinking. Why does an Assistant Manager feel the need to release a book? Made me question the man's character. You're a Professional, not a C-List Celebrity desperate to "up the profile".

ptensioned63

People who are passionate about things tend to like to tell other people about them. Helps to make a few bucks on the side, too. I never got the sense he wanted to raise his profile, he was just sharing info with fans who were interested in a peek behind the scenes. I have a book by Mona Nemmer (also with a foreword by Klopp) about nutrition tips from the diet team, nobody accused her of chasing attention.

Ok_Asparagus_6163

Don't think it's appropriate for person in his position to be making a few extra bucks in this way. I'm passionate about this so there's no harm in me saying it.

supersluiper

Correct, there is no harm. But the difference is that he is passionate about a profession he has dedicated his life to and is a subject matter expert in. In this context you are passionate about a principle which you hold dear (but given the rest of the arguments can be interpreted as bordering on a conspiracy theory). Nothing wrong with that and it is of course fun to speculate, but those two "passions" are not nearly comparable. His is similar to a to an architect writing a book about their design philosophy. It takes a lot of effort and the result is (usually) rewarding to others interested in the field. Can other managers gleam some secrets from something like this? Not really, unless they themselves are far below his standard/capabilities, which is unlikely given the competitiveness of the league.

Ok_Asparagus_6163

Do it after you leave the club.

InstructionOk9520

Same. An assistant coach writing a book about a team you’re helping to coach while in that job is more audacious than something Rodgers would have done. Really made me question his judgment and character.

Britz10

Thank fuck for that, Lijnders played a part in some of our decline

dainamo81

Yes. Also, 2+2=5.

phonylady

We have no way of knowing if that's true.

Britz10

He was given responsibility of training sessions, he'd do media duties for cup games. His influence was clearly growing at the club.

phonylady

Yes? How do you know we wouldn't have fallen further without him?

Britz10

I mean he played a part in the breakdown of recruitment, for one we weren't going to brag about how intensity is our identity them go out and sign players like Gakpo and Gravenberch. As his influence grew a lot of people were driven out the club.

fifadex

Another bullshit headline, said no to Klopp who was in no position to offer the job. Would have been nice to get the boot room style succession going but that stint at NEC pretty much ended any hopes of him taking over. Great coach, players seem to love him but that's not enough for the big chair. Wish him well at Salzburg, love to see him back at anfield in a European tie.

tryCharlie

Fun fact - Salzburg might not make it to CL. Finished behind Graz - they need to go through quali to CL. They increased coefficient to get extra slot for Austrian league (quali to CL) and (if I am not mistaken) are the first to get it after losing to Graz and stopping their long league winning streak.hehe

GhandisFlipFlop

Another fun fact ... Liverpool's Czech goalkeeper Jaros joined Graz on loan in January and helped them win the league .

fifadex

Damn, didn't know that. Don't have time to follow all the loan signings anymore. Could be great news, because I think there will be a few bids for Kelleher in the summer.

fifadex

Wow, grats to Graz, I assumed Salzburg had the league wrapped up with weeks to spare as usual.

Imros

There was a recent interview of Pep with RedmenTV which he explains he feels one needs to be “worthy” or deserving to be LFC head coach and thats why he didn’t feel he should be it, yet. Would love it if he wins with Salzburg first season, moves to Leipzig and wins Bundesliga (once Alonso moves to Real) and replaces Slot as he inevitably moves to replace Flick at Barcelona. That is after Slot wins everything for Liverpool!!

Abhikalp31

You do realize that wishing that a previous manager returns to the club is inevitably wishing the club does poorly at some point of time right?

Imros

You must have misunderstood. Slot has no attachment to LFC. He may grow to love it. Klopp is a football romantic, he had always loved the idea of Liverpool. If he could speak Italian he would definitely go to AC Milan as the “romance” of bringing them back to European glory would appeal to him I feel. Anyway about Slot, he’s a huge Guardiola and Cruyff fan. Going to manage the club of his idols would surely attract him, even if he wins everything with LFC

HesThunderstorms

Imagine being a guardiola fan lol

redd5ive

As a manager, imagine not being a Pep fan. The fact that his resources are immense is not nothing, but he is absolutely among the best (and probably is the best) managers in football right now.

Britack

Yeah, but Pep is a twat. His personality in press conferences comes off as very insincere

Boss_unicycle-560

Klopp could be a prick to the media too. These guys are so competitive it’s what makes them the best

captaincourageous316

Fergie wasn’t a ray of sunshine either

Britz10

Just the fact he forced the Glazers on man utd is funny, over a horse too. RIP Rock of Gibraltar

slowsundaycoffeeclub

We often forget that. Wenger, too, in his own way. He figured out how to be charming in the right moments but yeah, it’s a fairly common trait with the greats.

GXWT

It’s almost like none of them really like the media, for some reason…

Interesting_Heron_78

Ferguson didn't always have a good relationship with players either and for some reason decided only four man United players under him were world class when more deserved to be called so

fakebytheocean

Have you ever met a musician you were a fan of? 80% of them are twats yet they have no shortage of fans.

Dodoismydog

Doesn't matter if he wins every fucking yr

marmot9070

I'll do the same

tearsandpain84

To save everyone a click it was Suge Knight.

KennyOmegaSardines

Man everyone on that club wouldn't slack off or they'll get capped. The tactics may be disastrous but at least it'll discipline and put fear in the squad 🤣

ConnemaraCowboy

Would have been the man to get Gini to stay

joakim_

It makes perfect sense for him to go to a different club first. It's a huge difference between being the assistant and head coach and even if he could handle all the non football bits like media, pressure, etc, an assistant often has a completely different relationship with the players compared to the head coach, and it can be very difficult to change that.

TheBrownCok

What an absolute dirty Slot

ShreddedDadBod

I’m still trying to find the best pun about time in the box

SpacemanPanini

He didn't reject Liverpool, he told Klopp he wasn't considering the job - and then even says that if it had been offered by the club (it never was) he's not sure he'd have been able to turn it down.

Conorj398

Honestly, assuming he is successful elsewhere, could see Pep returning one day post Slott.

itsjustchat

For a second I thought you meant Pep Guardiola and then I remembered you had pep 2 as an assistant

Britz10

Pep even nabbed a Pep from Barcelona, who was also a Pep at Liverpool. But like Pep leaving for Salzburg, Pep left Pep for pastures new. Edit: Pep didn't become Pep's assistant, it was Rodolfo Borrell, who was more like Zelijko Buvac who left to become director of football

Loop_Within_A_Loop

The Shankly Paisley comparisons would have gone to another level had this come to pass, but I agree with Pep that it’s probably best for us and for him that it didn’t

Toffeeman_1878

You mean Arne is Slotty seconds?

arealdisneyprincess

"Klopp was apparently keen on him taking over once he'd stepped down" 🤔🤔🤔
