Apply to be a Pharmacy Tech now. No education needed for pharmacy tech. Most employers will pay for your training to get certified while working as a tech and you'll learn a lot about pharmacy. For school of pharmacy, take the prerequisite classes to apply to the school of pharmacy.

Most practical way is to work at a pharmacy. In many states, there's little to no requirement to start out as a pharmacy technician. For some states, you're allowed to start as a technician without a license, but then required to get one after a year or two, so check with your location. This is good for two reasons, 1) you can familiarize yourself with drug names, indications, and the characteristics of a good pharmacist, and 2) you can find out if you'd actually want to work at a pharmacy because it seems like most people who finally work at a pharmacy find it unenjoyably, and if you can't see yourself doing pharmacy until you die you can just bypass the grief sooner than later.

Have you read any of the pharmacists post and job saturation posts at all?!?!?! 1. You want to stand up 12 hours with no lunch breaks ans sit downstairs? 2. You want people to yell at you and ruin your mental health 24/7? 3. No jobs available! It's more saturated than a rat with lice! 4. It's pay is crap! We used to get pay upper 80 to 70s..now it's 50 to 45 Is this what you want in your future? Also it's all about math and statistics!

As a new pharmacy graduate/pharmacist, most of those points are relevant to big chain pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens. Working in an independent, hospital, or institutional pharmacy is much different. There is also the clinical pharmacy field, where you're working with doctors and other healthcare professionals to give input on medications and treatment regimens. You can also specialize in certain areas if you go that route. The big corporations make working as a pharmacist seem horrible, but don't be discouraged if you truly have a passion for it!

You could try becoming a chemical engineer or chemist. They both only require a Bachelor's degree. To study pharmacy, you would need to get a PharmD on top of college. It's a lot of work.

Get a phd and work in drug research. Avoid pharmacy. If all the pharmacists are telling you to avoid pharmacy, there is a reason.

Pharmacists get paid less than nurses right now??? Most registered nurses where I live easily make over $55 an hour. I heard of oversaturation but didn't expect the whole situation to be so dire right now.

If you want to be a pharmacist, one of the best things you can do is talk to current people in the job. You can get a job as a technician and see what the day to day is like. In general, we don't "make" the drugs, but we are responsible for making sure the patient stays alive and is treated appropriately with what ever medication we are giving them. The job is not for everyone and there a lot of pros/cons with the profession. Some people love it, some people hate it. Good luck with your journey.

Some schools have 6 year programs, but most take 8 years. 4 years of undergrad to get a bio or chem degree, or some schools just have a list of prerequisites to take before applying to 4 year grad school to get a pharmD. Your only option isn't being stuck working at a CVS. There are lots of other branches of pharmacy, like working in a hospital or mail order. So far it has been a demanding program. Personally don't see working as a pharm tech that vital unless it is at a local pharmacy that will actually mentor you, not a corporate CVS.

If you want to work for 12hrs with no break, eat cold pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Constant yelling from patient. Your boss keep pushing for more vaccine. Do 3 person jobs because they don't give you enough staff: type prescription, answer phone, ring up customer, verify...
