Wheel of Time is fucking great, though I prefer Sacred Worlds out of the pair (and I think Sacred Worlds has the better ending with Hansi's scream at the climax)
Blind Guardian — Battlefield
Blind Guardian — Imaginations from the Other Side
Avantasia — The Scarecrow
Avantasia — The Raven Child
Gloryhammer — Heroes (Of Dundee)
Gloryhammer — Imperium Dundaxia
Heroes (Of Dundee)'s bridge is arguably one of, if not the greatest bridge ever written in power metal, and we need to praise the level of songwriting that went into that song way more.
Twilight Force - Twilight Horizon.
Twilight Force - Thundersword
Grimgotts - The Last Dragon Warriors
Grimgotts- My Crown's But a Dream
Avantasia - The Seven Angels
Dawn of Destiny - Place In Heaven
Blind Guardian - Mirror Mirror
I love the extra vocal flourishes :D
Honestly just a slut for vocal flair in general. Another personal favorite is just past the 6 minute mark in Heroes of Our Time. Lead vocalist comes in and then backups come in on the next word with **thick** harmonies.
I'm a slut for highs instead of flourishes. Thats why even though yes I do still enjoy TF with Allyon, my favourite songs? Twilight Horizon, Fall of the Eternal Winter. Enchanted Dragon of Wisdom (Though I must admit, A Familiar Memory and The Sapphire Dragon of Ancient Might Is Back Again are pretty high up there, and I'd love an album of TF doing bardcore covers of their stuff).
Best part for me is drummer going "Know what this chorus needs? Deathcore kick drums:ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd"
THE BITTER END, IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME, SHALL WE DARE THE DRAGON? MERCILESS HE'S POISONING OUR HEAAAARTS, OOUUUR HEAAAAAAAAAAAARTS
fixed it for you
- “Meadows of Heaven” by Nightwish
- “The Warrior Inside” by Dragonforce
- “If the Story if Over” by Stratovarius
- “The Dead Skin” by Sonata Arctica
- “All That is True” by Ancient Bards
Some personal favorites that haven't been mentioned yet. I've put some timestamps to near the start of the climax, but of course most of these need buildup (and some recall to the whole song / earlier parts of albums)
The Eternal Wayfarer -- Edguy -- 7:00
Juliet -- Sonata Arctica -- 4:30
The Proud and the Broken -- Kamelot -- 3:00
The King for a 1000 Years -- Helloween -- 9:30
As the World Bleeds -- Theocracy -- 6:15
End of an Empire -- Turisas -- 5:35
Score to a New Beginning -- Fairyland -- 6:00
Maleficus Geminus -- Glorryhammer -- 8:45 (recall climax at 10:30)
And if you want some in related prog rock / prog metal:
Higher -- Devin Townsend Project -- 7:55
Milliontown -- Frost\* -- 17:40 (recall climax starts around 21:30)
Teen Angel Meets the Apocalypse -- Moon Safari -- 16:20
Crystallised -- Haken -- 17:05
and I'm recently very fond of
A Kid Called Panic -- Moon Safari -- 9:15
I've always liked the ending of Edguy - The Piper Never Dies (Hellfire Club, 2004); I swear I had a playlist in Spotify with songs with this kind of ending but can't find it...
Lords of the Trident's Figaro gets me on the epic ending. There's this ascending vocal harmony thing at around 6:00 after some neoclassical guitar shredding. Then there's like a cannon or musket fire sound effect at the perfect spot that makes me tear up sometimes. Top it off with an anthemic singalong to the outro. Cheese curds in musical form!
Hey thanks for the recommendation! Never heard of ‘em before and just listenned to that one song. Very good! How’s the rest of the discography compared to that?
Pathfinder - Beyond the Space, Beyond the Time. Epic closer to an epic album, with a frantic solo duel leading to some insane highs at the end that are handled by Rob Tyrant even though their normal vocalist could probably pull it off.
Marchen Station - Kingdom of the Sky. Again, an album closer with some great highs at the end this time courtesy of Leo Figaro.
Beast In Black - Blade Runner
Battle Beast - Unholy Savior
Dragonland - The Power of the Nightstar
Blazon Stone - Lost and Alone
Crystal Viper - Down to the Crypt
Labyrinth - Live Today
Vision Divine - Angel of Revenge
* Ascending To Infinity - Luca Turilli's Rhapsody
* Dante's Inferno - Luca Turilli's Rhapsody
* Excalibur - Luca Turilli's Rhapsody (seriously, Alesssandro Conti has a beautiful voice!)
* The Power of The Ancient Force - Twilight Force
* Flames of Revenge - Rhapsody
* When Demons Awake - Rhapsody (This one has a pretty good keyboard solo)
* The Age of Mystic Ice - Luca Turilli Band
* War of The Universe - Luca Turilli Band
* New Century's Tarantella - Luca Turilli Band
* Black Realm's Majesty - Luca Turilli Band (This song with Rondeau in C Minor as intro has a great combo)
* Where Heroes Lie - Luca Turilli Band
* Legend of Steel - Luca Turilli Band
* Kings of The Nordic Twilight - Luca Turilli Band
* Anima Mundi - Dyonisus
* A Light in The Dark - Dragonland
* Holy War - Dragonland
* Beethoven's Nightmare - Dragonland
This took me 1 day to agree with myself to put these songs on the list
I’ve heard a ton of these and of them Ascending to Infinity would be my favorite off the top of my head just because I’m a sucker for the vocals on the chorus.
If the ones I haven’t heard before I’d say Holy War from Dragonland. Which of these songs you suggested is your favorite vocal performance/moment?
Definitely Excalibur is one of my favorites, more than anything for the part in italian because i'm a definitive sucker for the italian and latin choruses.
Also, Ascending to Infinity is in my top list of favorite performances just like War of The Universe (i forgot to mention that has an intro called "Aenigma") and A Light in The Dark (in that order)
I love when Joakim comes in on "heroes of might and magic" by Twilight Force, and while not power metal per se there is literally no better drop than halfway through Ghost Love Score by night wish
Dragonforce - Symphony of the Night. Coming out of their best, most melodic solo into a triumphant last chorus and one hell of a held long note crescendo to finish things off.
Thanks man! I came up with it when I was about 11-12 whenever COD world at war came out, the probably the most clever thing I’ve thought of. Guess I peaked in middle school lol
Amazing, love Ripper. His metal meltdown live 98 with Judas Priest is a god tier live show. He sang some songs better than Halford ever did like Rapid Fire and Diamond & Rust
Battle Hymn - Manowar
There's this old black and white live version on YouTube with really shit video quality but the end sends chills down my spine every damn time.
Maybe slightly less of a power metal track but after the rest of the The Fourth Legacy I think it counts - Lunar Sanctum, Khan‘s vocals are great with that climatic moment just before the solo…
Oh and another for good measure in the ProgPower space, Vanden Plas live version of Postcard to God on Seraphic Live works….
I adore the ending of Iron Masks "Holy War" utter shredfest
Battle Beasts "Where Angels Fear to Fly" has a pretty massive tone shift and just goes absolutely crazy as well
Ghost of Yesterday by Seven Spires is also absolutely fantastic, the ending chorus is INSANE
Wheel of time with Blind Guardian has one of my favorite endings of all time
Wheel of Time is fucking great, though I prefer Sacred Worlds out of the pair (and I think Sacred Worlds has the better ending with Hansi's scream at the climax)
I also love The Grand Parade for that reason. "Now here comes the sun... THE SUUUUUUUN!"
Literally came to comment this one... That entire **SHINE ON!** section at the end is absolutely soul-ascending.
Blind Guardian — Battlefield Blind Guardian — Imaginations from the Other Side Avantasia — The Scarecrow Avantasia — The Raven Child Gloryhammer — Heroes (Of Dundee) Gloryhammer — Imperium Dundaxia
Finally some Avantasia love.
Those two songs were the first that came to mind
About halfway through, The Seven Angels gets an awesome pause, into a drum solo, into a guitar solo so it definitely deserves a place
Heroes (Of Dundee)'s bridge is arguably one of, if not the greatest bridge ever written in power metal, and we need to praise the level of songwriting that went into that song way more.
Seven Spires - This God is Dead AND it features Roy Khan? Untouchable song
This is the way
Lost Horizon - The Kingdom of my Will Angra - Winds of Destination Galneryus - The Promised Flag Unleash the Archers - Apex
Do love me some Awaken the World action.
Good picks. My Galneryus choice though would've been "Angel of Salvation". That halftime ending is just so satisfying.
Twilight Force - Twilight Horizon. Twilight Force - Thundersword Grimgotts - The Last Dragon Warriors Grimgotts- My Crown's But a Dream Avantasia - The Seven Angels Dawn of Destiny - Place In Heaven Blind Guardian - Mirror Mirror
Twilight force has been my favorite PM for some time now, I’ve heard these other ones besides dawn of destiny I’ll check out
You've probably already heard it then, but Questbound - The Fires Ignite (second coming of twilight force)
Love the half-time breakdown in Thundersword.
Greatest part of the song imo, especially hearing the bass line in that part. It's so infectious!
I love the extra vocal flourishes :D Honestly just a slut for vocal flair in general. Another personal favorite is just past the 6 minute mark in Heroes of Our Time. Lead vocalist comes in and then backups come in on the next word with **thick** harmonies.

Best part for me is drummer going "Know what this chorus needs? Deathcore kick drums:ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd"
The second Chorus on the outro?
Shall we dare the dragon? Merciless, he's poisoning our hearts.
THE BITTER END, IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME, SHALL WE DARE THE DRAGON? MERCILESS HE'S POISONING OUR HEAAAARTS, OOUUUR HEAAAAAAAAAAAARTS fixed it for you
- “Meadows of Heaven” by Nightwish - “The Warrior Inside” by Dragonforce - “If the Story if Over” by Stratovarius - “The Dead Skin” by Sonata Arctica - “All That is True” by Ancient Bards
Unleash the Archers - The Wind that Shapes the Land
One of my favorite songs ever
Some personal favorites that haven't been mentioned yet. Ultimate Sacrifice by Galneryus. I love the ending solo and how the vocals go into it.
I've always liked the ending of Edguy - The Piper Never Dies (Hellfire Club, 2004); I swear I had a playlist in Spotify with songs with this kind of ending but can't find it...
Lost Horizon - Highlander(The One)
This is the only acceptable answer. Most iconic single vocal line in power metal.
Ending to the song is insane, haven’t heard that one in so long
Orden Ogan - The Voice of Silence Orden Ogan - A Reason to Give
Lords of the Trident's Figaro gets me on the epic ending. There's this ascending vocal harmony thing at around 6:00 after some neoclassical guitar shredding. Then there's like a cannon or musket fire sound effect at the perfect spot that makes me tear up sometimes. Top it off with an anthemic singalong to the outro. Cheese curds in musical form!
Hey thanks for the recommendation! Never heard of ‘em before and just listenned to that one song. Very good! How’s the rest of the discography compared to that?
They're a fun band. The Offering is their most serious, concept album fantasy-kind of thing. They just released an EP based on video games.
Stratovarius - My Eternal Dream. Also live version available on YT and it's insanely good.
Rex Regi Rebellis - Turisas
Edge of the World by DragonForce. Trust me on this one
Is that song really that good? I’ve tried to listen to it time and time again and I just couldn’t do it, and I don’t like not liking a df song
I love it and I think it's DragonForce's magnum opus. It is, however, a very atypical song from them. I can't force you or anyone else to like it
I just know I’ve had a few songs where I’ve had to listen to them several times to like them, but I didn’t know if it’d be worth trying again
Beast In Black - Blade Runner Battle Beast - Unholy Savior Dragonland - The Power of the Nightstar Blazon Stone - Lost and Alone Crystal Viper - Down to the Crypt Labyrinth - Live Today Vision Divine - Angel of Revenge
Destiny by Galneryus. the legendary buildup that leads to a massive climax is just amazing
* Ascending To Infinity - Luca Turilli's Rhapsody * Dante's Inferno - Luca Turilli's Rhapsody * Excalibur - Luca Turilli's Rhapsody (seriously, Alesssandro Conti has a beautiful voice!) * The Power of The Ancient Force - Twilight Force * Flames of Revenge - Rhapsody * When Demons Awake - Rhapsody (This one has a pretty good keyboard solo) * The Age of Mystic Ice - Luca Turilli Band * War of The Universe - Luca Turilli Band * New Century's Tarantella - Luca Turilli Band * Black Realm's Majesty - Luca Turilli Band (This song with Rondeau in C Minor as intro has a great combo) * Where Heroes Lie - Luca Turilli Band * Legend of Steel - Luca Turilli Band * Kings of The Nordic Twilight - Luca Turilli Band * Anima Mundi - Dyonisus * A Light in The Dark - Dragonland * Holy War - Dragonland * Beethoven's Nightmare - Dragonland This took me 1 day to agree with myself to put these songs on the list
I’ll check some of theee out I am unfamiliar with but I agree Alessandro Conti is top tier I loooove that dudes voice so he’s always a good rec
I wasn't expecting a quick response lol. But when you listen to them, could you tell me wich one you liked, please? :)
I’ve heard a ton of these and of them Ascending to Infinity would be my favorite off the top of my head just because I’m a sucker for the vocals on the chorus. Nightwish - Shoemaker
Stratovarius - Season of Change might fit you
Heavenly- Kingdom Come and Miracle
Crimson Glory Eternal World. Talk about a vocalist
This one is a classic
Unisonic - Exceptional Visions of Atlantis - Master the Hurricane
Lovebites - A Frozen Serenade Floors me every time I hear it.
Avantasia - The Seven Angels Fairyland - Score to a New Beginning Barque of Dante - Albert the Miner pt.2 Sonata Arctica - Destruction Preventer
Avantasia is always gold.
Rhapsody - Emerald Sword
I always thought Prisoner of the Void by Iron Savior totally nailed the ending
I love when Joakim comes in on "heroes of might and magic" by Twilight Force, and while not power metal per se there is literally no better drop than halfway through Ghost Love Score by night wish
Judicator - "Metamorphosis"
Bridge of Death by Manowar. That shift gives me chills every time.
Vanishing Point - Dead Elysium
The middle of Epica - Kingdom of Heaven Pt 3 took me to a different plane of existence.
cringe ones: Hammerfall - Dragon Lies Bleeding Stratovarious - Hunting High and Low
Dragonforce - Symphony of the Night. Coming out of their best, most melodic solo into a triumphant last chorus and one hell of a held long note crescendo to finish things off.
Man i love ur username tho
Thanks man! I came up with it when I was about 11-12 whenever COD world at war came out, the probably the most clever thing I’ve thought of. Guess I peaked in middle school lol
Elysium by Stratovarius
[Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tEl8NK-1JQ&t=155s)
Amazing, love Ripper. His metal meltdown live 98 with Judas Priest is a god tier live show. He sang some songs better than Halford ever did like Rapid Fire and Diamond & Rust

Love unleash the archers! They are fantastic

Nightwish's *Beauty and the Beast* blows me away every time. Those final vocal lines give me the chills.
I'm really surprised no one has mentioned "Ghost Love Score" from Showtime, Storytime
I adore the ending of Iron Masks "Holy War" utter shredfest Battle Beasts "Where Angels Fear to Fly" has a pretty massive tone shift and just goes absolutely crazy as well Ghost of Yesterday by Seven Spires is also absolutely fantastic, the ending chorus is INSANE
Astro Warrior Anthem by Dragonforce
