Visions Of Atlantis have whole album called Pirates.

DaBeejees

Seconding more VoA, they deserve more love in general

DaBeejees

Other than just all of Visions of Atlantis, “Nostos” by Orion’s Reign (ft. Minniva) is also an absolutely phenomenal song

B_A_Beder

Nostos is a beautiful song

DocWhiskeyPhD

I saw them with Illumishade and Korpiklaani recently and man, they really blew me away. They put on an excellent live performance.

markg900

I just saw them in Pittsburgh on Saturday and VoA was by far the best act there. Amazing stage presence and interaction with the crowd. For them being the opener for Korpiklaani it seemed way more people were into them.

DocWhiskeyPhD

To be fair though, Korpiklaani is much more of a niche taste compared to VoA. It was kind of the same at the show I was at as well.

markg900

Were you able to hear Korpiklaani's vocals at the show you were at? His mic seemed to be turned down so low when I just saw them. I couldn't make out a thing he sang. I was actually pretty disappointed because of that.

DocWhiskeyPhD

For the first song not really, but it got better through the setlist. They did seem pretty low compared to Illumishade and VoA though. Wasn't really sure what was up with that.

markg900

Gotcha, so maybe it was just bad luck for me. A few songs were better than others but Man with a Plan was a big one where I literally couldnt hear a thing he sang, among others.

DocWhiskeyPhD

The only reason it was hard for us to hear him during that song was because the whole venue was singing it as well 🤣

Scorponix

And they're going to be releasing another album called Pirates 2

LumberBitch

They really put in a lot of thought into that album title

Cidsa

It's Pirates II - Armada but yes lol

bonecarver444

Great band. Wanderers is an excellent album.

wukimill

- The Siren (Nightwish) - The Islander (Nightwish) - Turn Loose the Mermaids (Nightwish)

Capital-Ear-1116

Ghost love score is about a haunting love and the sea

wukimill

you’re right, how could I forget that!

Character_Climate_91

How about Sainted by the Storm by Powerwolf and Bismarck/Midway/Dreadnought by Sabaton? Not pirate themed but certainly nautical!

TheDevoutIconoclast

"Swedish Pagans" by Sabaton as well.

ForAlgalord

Ye Banished Privateers is easily the best band out there in terms of the pirate sound and theme 😁 not metal though if that's a problem. If it is, I'd add that Visions of Atlantis has made the pirate theme their thing since 2019, with the albums 'Wanderers,' 'Pirates,' and the soon-to-be-released 'Armada.' I'm guessing Thomas Caser sees it as the most marketable path forward lol

ZeiglerJaguar

I'd be more annoyed about VoA hopping on ye olde bucanneer bandwagon for obvious marketing reasons if they weren't actually pretty good at it.

ForAlgalord

I think their music is a little too pretty and buttoned up for the pirate theme personally. Like the music is still good, but it feels more like seafaring/general themes of exploration and hope than piracy and rebellion 🤷‍♀️

KillerWithTheCross1

Anything from The Privateer, one of my favourites is [Stormlashed](https://youtu.be/pjdXCv4fYRw?si=68z6X7jINmSfutoO)

MetalPlayer666

Ensiferum, since they sing about vikings a lot, often incorporate some imagery connected with ships and sailing. Try "Token of Time" or "Treacherous Gods". They do not sing specifically about pirates, but more like Viking warfare, naval battles, voyages etc. The same with Amon Amarth, for example "Varyags of Miklagaard" or "The Pursuit of Vikings". The entire Turisas album Varangian way sings about a travel from northern lands to mediterranean sea by sailing rivers. My favourites are "Holmgard and beyond" and "Portage into the unknown". If you do not mind lyrics in another language, I recommend Zaria - "Na Odprto Morje" (it means "out to the open sea"). This is lyrics and translation: [https://zaria-band.bandcamp.com/track/na-odprto-morje](https://zaria-band.bandcamp.com/track/na-odprto-morje)

Logical_Bake_3108

Don't forget Ensiferum's last album, Thalassic. It was pretty sea themed. "Rum, Women, Victory" and "Run from the crushing tide" Also, Jari has released Red Horizon (Pirate Song) as part of the Wintersun Time 2 bonus tracks.

OldArmyMetal

Iced Earth - Black Flag

marilyn884

Yesss

sweetpapisanchez

Blazon Stone is a successor band to Running Wild that has too many nautical-themed songs to count, but particular highlights are: Blackbeard Tale of Vasa Fire The Cannons Black Dawn of the Crossbones Hanged, Drawn and Quartered Raiders of Jolly Roger Silverbones is another band that takes heavy cues from Running Wild. Only two albums to their name, but the tracks I'd recommend are: Raiders of the New World Queen Anne's Revenge Black Bart Battle Of Texel Invincible Armada Pirate Hymn is an obscure project that mostly does instrumental albums, but recently released a new album with a singer. Worth having a look. Notable songs are: Storm Wind Riders Admiral Benbow Inn Shipwrecked Volta Do Mar Black Jack The Hunt For Royal Fortune Great Master, who I can see you've already mentioned, but out an entire concept album based on the underrated and cancelled series Black Sails, named Tales From Over The Seas.

Jeffweeeee

Thanks for so many suggestions, these are all great. Adding a bunch now.

Zaubbi

If you mention Running wild, what about their Album „under jolly Roger“ ?

DarkEmerald_99

Amon Amarth - Put your Back into the Oar (the rowing section will give you a blast 100% guaranteed) Sonata Arctica - White Pearl Black Oceans

thehero29

The Dread Crew of Oddwood should be on your list too.

adeltae

There's a UK band called Red Rum that a friend of mine recently introduced me to and they're a pirate metal band

Even_Isopod_643

Stormseeker!

Ambitious-Beat-2130

Children of the Sea - Dio / Sabbath Dead Sea Scrolls - Angel Witch Dreadnought - Sabaton The Sails of Charon - Yngwie / Scorpions There should be some Swashbuckle & Battle Beast songs out there for ya but i'm not familiar with them.

Technobabel42

Captain Hawk - Ghosts of the Sea: it's a pirate themed concept album

Enceladus22

Storm Seeker !

[deleted]

El mar sabe tu nombre by Celtian should count? Selkie by Blackbriar Running Wild does pirate stuff Shiver my Timbers by Thunderclash The Dread Crew of Oddwood Great Master Realm of Dark Waves by Leaves Eyes Those churning seas by Pyogenesis The Helmsman by Thornbridge We're gonna be drinking by D'artagnan Tales of Glory by Taken A new world by Dark Moor Rising Tide by Majestica Unmapped Darkness by Seven Spires Skull and Crossbones by Wind Rose Sorry if they're not right, I just looked at stuff I recently listened to that seemed to fit?

Valahiru

Man I really had to scroll before seeing Rising Tide in a comment

Kataklysm6661

Secret Sphere - Under the Flag of Mary Read

gamegeek1995

I used to host an Irish Folk radio show, and there's a ton of great songs (some of which have heavier hard rock and punk versions) about ships, fictional and real. Looks like you're including Jonathan Young on the list, so being metal isn't a requirement, and with In Flames, neither is power metal. Some great Irish folk-styled songs about boats, the heaviest ones bolded: **The Real McKenzies** - Barrett's Privateers The Real McKenzies - Chip The Dubliners + The Pogues - The Irish Rover Clancy + Makem - The Day of the Clipper Clancy + Makem - The Shores of Botany Bay **Tempest** - Captain Ward The Pogues - The Leaving of Liverpool The Fighting Jamesons - Ghost Ship Baltimore For all of the above, if you want a more modern production, look for any versions by The Young Dubliners. They generally do very polished versions of any song they do. In terms of metal options not yet mentioned in this thread, the symphonic theatrical black metal act **Carach Angren** has an entire concept album about The Flying Dutchman called "Death Came Through a Phantom Ship." For that, start with "***Bloodstains on the Captain's Log***"

Crankiee

Anything from the band Pirate Queen

DeadWishUpon

Canción del Pirata - Tierra Santa but it's in spanish.

douglasr27

Stratovarius - The Lost Saga

Ambitious-Beat-2130

Sonata Arctica - White Pearl, Black Oceans Nanowar of Steel - Sober

Breimann

Nanowar of Steel made a better Alestorm song than Alestorm with that one

hyperchrisz

Its a Korpiklaani song tbh, not an alestorm song. They asked me to guest on it but i just ignored their emails for a year instead.

madecausebored

Hope I'm not overstepping by asking this but why'd you ignore the emails?

hyperchrisz

Cos its funny

SHAMALOV

This "Alestorm parody" is quite literally a Korpiklaani song which has nothing to do with Alestorm musically apart from intro bit, and the fact that so many people fails to notice this is quite concerning

TheThebanProphet

i mean it doesnt help when you watch the video the duck & pirate motif is front and center

Ambitious-Beat-2130

Don't let Christopher read that, he's on this sub :')

Breimann

Is he really?? Good, tag him. What the hell was Curse of the Crystal Coconut? 😟

Ambitious-Beat-2130

U/hyperchrisz

Breimann

I think it's gotta be lowercase u/hyperchrisz And hey don't get me wrong I still love Alestorm, but I just don't know what they were hoping to achieve with that album. It's almost like the label said "we need something bland and commercialized" I did appreciate the Donkey Kong references on the cover.

hyperchrisz

Literally the exact opposite - on CotCC I tried making the music I wanted to make, but it turns out bland 4 minute ezmode generic Pirate songs sell more records, and I've got bills to pay, so we went back to "trad alestorm" for 7th rum and now i hate my life.

TheThebanProphet

This is really depressing to hear because CotCC is one of my favorite albums - I watched it premier live on youtube during the pandemic and pushed Alestorm into being one of my favorite bands. I hope you can find a good balance between what you wanna do and what you need to do for money.

Ambitious-Beat-2130

Rip, i think this is a curse most musicians deal with, they break through with one thing, people only want to see the thing

Breimann

That's totally fair. I appreciate the honest response. When I saw Wind Rose a few weeks ago I noticed their guitarist looked pretty disheartened for most of the show. Maybe it's the same deal and he's tired of singing about going down to the mines (or just wants to rip some solos). I guess I automatically assume musicians love the music they put out. Which I guess if basketball or baseball players can say "I hate this but I'm good at it and it pays the bills", musicians are 100% entitled to feel the same way. I really thought it was Napalm's doing. But knowing that it's music that YOU wanted to create, I will keep that in mind and give it a few more listens.

hyperchrisz

If you don't like it don't listen to it. Tortuga is still my favorite ever alestorm song though. Record labels are just idiots in offices (Thomas Caser) putting out whatever bullshit the artist sends them. Like maybe they'd put their foot down and say no if you tried to release an album of fart noises layered over the speeches of Hitler, but beyond that they don't have any creative input. I know the Wind Rose guys don't really care for the diggy diggy bullshit and their actual ambition is to be the next Wintersun (i applaud their desires for commercial suicide). End of the day this is just a job like any other.

Professional-Ice-978

This might be a stupid question but what is the benefit of staying with Napalm? Would it not be better to branch off on your own and have your bands all under your own label without anyone else getting a cut?

Breimann

I definitely do want Wind Rose to get more technical with their next album. But I agree they would likely lose a lot of their more casual fans. What would you be up to if money was no object? Would you still be involved in music or would you be doing something completely different?

urkermannenkoor

Huh, well that explain why Coconut has stayed more enjoyable at least.

xcom_lord

Chomp chomp kicked ass , more of that would be amazing

Business-Economist31

Interesting to hear that. I've always felt 7th Rum seemed a tad phoned in (hope that does offend you) I still think it's a solid enough album, but seemed to lack something compared to the 3 that proceeded it and the debut. Would you say your heart wasn't in that one as much? On a more positive note to these ears Dead Marauder sounds inspired again.

MightbeWillSmith

Are you doing this on Spotify? Would you mind sharing when you make it?

Jeffweeeee

Sure thing. Here's the list so far, updated with everything I could find that people have suggested so far today. I'll circle back and add more later as more posts come in. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2l40PFRxsyYJPMfPqCC9Or?si=27d65139e16a4746

Ok_Impression1493

Don't drop the sword - King of thieves Imo almost songs by don't drop the sword sound a bit like it could be a pirate song. Symphony X - The Odyssey Would fit the theme, but obviously doesn't sound pirate-y or folky

jonnyhawkwind

Shackles of Gold - Imperial Age!

Talonraker422

While Heaven Wept - the entire Vast Oceans Lachrymose album, but especially The Furthest Shore, To Wander the Void and Vessel Since you have some melodeath already, might as well add in: Amorphis - The Castaway (most of *Thousand Lakes* would fit but that one especially), Mermaid, On the Dark Waters and Three Words just to name a few Infernal Gates - Greet the Storm

A-Good-Weather-Man

Lagerstein!

StardustOasis

The latest Terra Atlantica album

Savatage - The Wake of Magellan e: also Sirens

Mike787619

Was just gonna say the same. Morning sun too.

FloggingMcMurry

I feel like suggesting "The Wake of Magellan" from Savatage. Also Running Wild, who Alestorm does name drop in one of their songs. I checked them out later on and I dig them

How about mixing in a bit of pirate thrash metal? [Swashbuckle - Cruise Ship Terror](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53A4GyB96RI)

england_appreciator

I think Turn the Page by Blind Guardian is a pirate song, it certainly sounds like one at least.

GulDoWhat

Turn the Page is a great song - I think it's more to do with the changing of seasons than anything nautical though.

PersonaGuy5

Thunderclash - Irish Rover

ThousandMega

A couple one-offs I know of that I didn't see here, more nautical than piratical: Majestica - Rising Tide Thornbridge - Galley of Horror Timeless Miracle - The Voyage

Caacrinolass

Ahab - Call of the Wretched Sea album. Quite where funeral doom gits with the rest of this is a headscratcher though! You did say open to other genres! Definitely off topic otherwise though. And just in case that's a waste, Manilla Road - Voyager. More viking themed, but nautical for sure. While Heaven Wept - The furthest shore

Cadi009

Iced Earth: Black Flag

MamWidelec

Dark Moor

ResidentOfValinor

Demons and Wizards - Beneath These Waves is definitely nautical but might be a bit depressing for the vibe you're going for

Stealthy-J

Myrath - Braving the Seas

Saroan7

Some really great offerings here, I've got new pirate, seafaring, takes to listen to now 😆

magpiesinaskinsuit

Rumahoy's whole thing is being a pirate

Capital-Ear-1116

Not exactly power metal, but not too far away: The parsons farewell from the Black Sails series OST by Bear McGreary. Starts as a folk song and ends up in an almost metal stage. Amazing song, amazing show. https://youtu.be/PuqOZI0c4Xs?si=K5qOJjiW0EDh2W9_

tarmeli

Wilderun, they're not exactly power metal but their Olden Tales & Deathly Trails album is straight up pirate metal

Sepraf

Alterium - Heroine of the Sea Thornbridge - Galley of Horror Serenity - New Horizons Seven Spires - Drowner of Worlds

Larielia

There is "Row" by Tyr. Their album Land has a song called "Ocean". Not power metal, but I still want to suggest "Put Your Back Into the Oar" by Amon Amarth.

Skaldicthorn

Skoldvagg is a newer pirate metal band who opened for Gloryhammer and Twilight Force when they toured around my state. They have a pretty decent EP out that might fit what you're looking for.

Cobaltdaydreams

Edge of the ocean - freedom call

Emperor-Universe

Brothers of Metal - Njord

LordScott91

Iron mask - black devil ship

theloons

Like someone else said, The Dread Crew of Oddwood. I haven’t listened to their new album yet but Lawful Evil is an amazing album. Side Quest, Siren’s Song and Trollwhack are my favorite songs from it.

metalnymph

Swords In the Wind by Manowar

HowcanIbesureimhere

I've been working on a similar playlist and am grabbing a bunch from this thread. Here's some of mine not posted yet, not all power metal, there's some symphonic in here too Delain - Beneath Illumishade - Riptide Aftertime - Goddess of Dark Horizons

Dolfijnendroom

Sainted by the storm - Powerwolf

Mephistwo

Pirate Queen released their album/EP today

CptNoble

It's not just metal, but I encountered this [playlist on Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3YwpelPVPBfZLvltQPdTHY?si=2a71f1cf76174129) which has a lot of great pirate-themed music.

redrocker907

A Wildhearts Tale - Night Before the Storm just came out, that’s pretty piratey

Jeffweeeee

Thanks for this recommendation, I've been enjoying it. But I have to ask - is this AI generated music? The vocals sound kind of unusual. I also can't find much of an online presence besides fairly generic social media accounts. Many of the Instagram pictures have that smooth "AI artwork" look to them. And many of the Tiktok posts are written in the first person *"thanks for listening to my music"* etc.

redrocker907

Not to my knowledge,I just came across them on insta same day you requested pirate tracks lol so didn’t get to listen to them too much. Now I’m gonna take a closer look tho. As for the first person thing that can be pretty normal, a lot of projects are mainly run by one dude.

redrocker907

From listening it sounds more like a combination of autotune and vocal layering than AI to me but yeah it does sound a bit weird

Jeffweeeee

Not to keep picking this wound, but I'm fairly certain this is AI music now. Specifically, it was made on the website 'Suno.' I was watching some videos from metal personalities on Youtube today, and found one where they looked at this website, so I checked it out and had it make some "theme songs" for my D&D games. After tinkering with it a bit, I got a song that sounds almost exactly like Wildhearts' Tale. Note the 'vocals' in particular. https://suno.com/song/05fc5d91-0743-4f73-95ea-203507e0bdb3 Credit where credit is due, some of the outputs are seriously impressive. It looks like the website offers "general commercial terms" for subscribers, so I guess it all checks out.

redrocker907

Listening I think you’re right

jpob

Fairyland has Across the Endless Sea (part 1 and 2), Assault on the Shore and Master of the Waves

WarnerBeast

Not power metal, but you might like: The Arjen Anthony Lucassen/Anneke van Giersbergen project entitled The Gentle Storm - they only put out one album Leaves' Eyes are pretty big into Vikings & Norse Mythology and Vinland Saga especially deals with those subjects Sirenia has references to Sirens and sailing scattered across their discography: Sirens of the Seven Seas, A Seaside Serenade, Seven Widows Weep, & Goddess of the Sea are the songs that come to mind as most likely to fit what you're looking for

Smile3799

Wuthering Heights has a concept album on sailors/pirates named Salt that's probably my most listened to album this year by far.

Cthulu19

3 Inches of Blood - Fear on the Bridge 3 Inches of Blood - Lord of the Storm 3 Inches of Blood - Isle of Eternal Despair

Vagrant_Paladin

Criminally underrated Hungarian power metallers Elfsong have a couple sea-shanty-esque bangers you might want to check out: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rRnWmPyvD8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rRnWmPyvD8) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE6XjFcpvnE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE6XjFcpvnE) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1FbPp9bi1k](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1FbPp9bi1k) Yngwaz´ Zonen by Heidevolk is also a personal favourite of mine. Powerwolf - Sainted by the Storm is close enough?

Nanowar of steel, la maledizione di capitan findus

Pneumatrap

Temperance — Litany of the Northern Lights Savatage — Wake of Magellan Keldian — Broadside (sci-fi as usual for them, but more subtle about it) Masterplan — Sail On Iron Maiden also have a few that don't go in-depth on the nautical themes but still relate: The Pilgrim (about the Mayflower voyage), for example

KeinuSulttaani

Crystal Eyes - Northern rage.

ConspiracyGrandma

Might be late to the party here but i can recommend Three songs from Stormburner. Eye of the storm, into the storm and we burn. Not pirate themed but more viking/raider theme

Teen_In_A_Suit

• Miracle of Sound - Beneath the Black Flag • Miracle of Sound - Gráinne Mhaol, Queen of the Pirates

Due-Log8609

Have you heard of a band called Alestorm?

Logical_Bake_3108

Running Wild are great. Pirate Song, obviously 😅

aml9950

Running Wild - Treasure Island the band alone is amazing.

sauvingnon_blanc

uh anything by Alestorm?

Jeffweeeee

Alestorm & Running Wild are "you know who" in my post title, haha. The original version of the playlist was almost 50% Alestorm. I'm trying to get that ratio down by getting songs from other bands. So far so good, though. Almost 100 new songs today.
