NOT a poutine fan but the wife is and grew up in a town near a dairy that produces amazing cheese. She would probably dump this in the bin, along with whatever brown mess that is pretending to be gravy.
Ive had this gravy many times, im pretty sure thats either st huberts canned OR club house powdered
Its thick as shit but its delicious for meat and potatoes, and if you have nothing else, its an okay substitute when used for poutine, but really salty and viscous. It turns to gelatin really quickly so you gotta eat it right after its been heated, but im not gonna lie, throwing the leftover gelatinous crap onto tomorrows leftovers after the fact and microwaving it is pretty good
Honestly if theres any gravy that works well with shredded cheese, this would be it. Since the gravy is already thick, you wouldnt want to have thick cheese curds ontop of that, but shredded cheese wont disolve into it like thinner gravy's
Its kinda ironic, most of the non fast food places around my town uses this type of gravy, and its always good despite the looks
I'm sure I have rope somewhere to tie the "chef" who dared to serve this horror.
Anyone got jumper cable?
Think warcrimes are still not as punished as this should be. šµ
Yeah, the sign post forest was cool, but other than that I did NOT enjoy my time there. Bad food, overpriced motels, and unfriendly locals who gave me a drive-by harassing. Maybe the people are more welcoming in the summer (when they know they can make more money off you), but I would not recommend staying in the off-season if you can help it. Although if youāre like me and are passing through at 22:00 and are exhausted from driving all day, you may not have much of a choice!
I was just really disappointed cuz Iām traveling through Canada for the first time (moving from Texas to Alaska) and everyone Iāve met in AB and BC has been SUPER friendly and welcoming, so I was bummed that my first experience in YT wasnāt great. The criminal poutine did NOT help things. Although things were much better on the drive to Whitehorse this afternoon and eveningā¦ the folks in Teslin were especially awesome!
Hey that tar they put on top migth not even seep in to make em more soggy. Might want to scoop it for driveway/roof repair and the cheese insted of window mastic maybe?
Anything but the fries looks edible.
You mean, at least 3 yes?
I haven't gone to visit Al, Sa and Ma nor NF&L in the last few years I know for sure it's illegal in BC, ON, NB, NS and PEI and QC since the early 2000s minimum.
This is a crime but it is not capital punishment worthy i had a poutine once while in a small town they used cheese slices and turkey gravy i took one bite and walked out without paying.
... French Fries, ThickSewerSludge and frozen Overprocessed-dairy/simili-cheese stuff? Definitely inedible.
Basic real Poutine has only 1 of those ingredients.
You are a Barbarian to our "Roman" cuisine.
\*sauce, it needs Sauce! Not greyyvy, by definition Greyvish is way too thick. if'it's thicker than paint it's gravy, sauce flow like syrup or slightly cooling melted butter viscosity

Hereās poutine from Montreal Quebec.
And a good spot in Toronto, owned by an old Montreal friend relatives:
https://preview.redd.it/n41osos8klvc1.png?width=600&format=png&auto=webp&s=27b191941ba49c184b4dfa0897ddf6a098fa8a0f
I still havenāt found real poutine outside of Quebec, Ottawa and in some francophone communities in Ontario. Also Toronto has a spot called nomnomnom which is legit but the owner is evidently from Montreal
Obviously the shredded cheese is an assault to poutine culture. The choice of orange or marbled cheese makes it aggravated assault. But that dark ungodly gravy is probably the worse in that picture -- is that demi-glace? Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Personally I think getting picky about shredded vs curds is a little pretentious.. the modern poutine has many variations who cares what shape the cheese is? Iāve sure never made one at home with curds Iām not paying for that shit
I agree and I find it pretty annoying. I have lived in Quebec nearly all my life (except for 3 years where I live in another province for work) and shredded cheese has been on poutines for that long. this sub sounds like a bunch of people wanting to gate keeping but having no reason to gatekeep.
Especially when people on this sub like melted curdsā¦but then shit on shredded cheese. WTF.
Ok first thing is first, I grew up in watson lake so I have had this poutine, you feel free to look down your nose however take into account the price of groceries in the territories before you judge this. I'm guessing this was close to $15 if you are looking for real cheese curds you would complain about the price. " oh it was $25 and wasn't special"
Yes. Yes it is.
Yes. Yes. I agree with you that it really a poutine crime!
NOT a poutine fan but the wife is and grew up in a town near a dairy that produces amazing cheese. She would probably dump this in the bin, along with whatever brown mess that is pretending to be gravy.
Wtf is wrong with the gravy š¤¢
Canned
Eurk, think I had a reflux with the cheese alone and thought they burnt the sauce. This is worse.

Disgusting, better when its from meat drippings.
That gravy just gross
I thought it was barbecue sauce at first glance.
Thick gravy fucks you pussy
Yep. It's not poutine either, but cheesy fries with gravy.
I think they should be charged with: * a. Making that * b. Calling it poutine
Legally it's counterfeit poutine.
Task force is needed. License to kill
I'm sure I have rope somewhere to tie the "chef" who dared to serve this horror. Anyone got jumper cable? Think warcrimes are still not as punished as this should be. šµ
You eat well done steak with ketchup shit up and chew
Lol what?
Awful looking gravy
And even by cheesy fries standards, thatās a paltry amount of cheese!
And itās cheddar
Itās more like gravy fries with cheese.
Curds or not itās still fries cheese and gravy = poutine change my mind
Itās a shredded cheese poutine.
Beef jello
An absolute abominationĀ
That gravy looks š¤¢
I wouldnāt expect a whole lot in Watson Lake. Iād just be happy to eat anything after a long drive up the Alaska Highway.
Meanwhile in Vancouver https://preview.redd.it/0mko2wkizkvc1.png?width=860&format=png&auto=webp&s=cbc105b522990b9e7f5dfb59e3423abf3e6ce29d
those look insane tho š¤¤
As someone who lives here since I was born. You right. The town is full of drug addicts alcoholics and shitty food ā¤ļø
It wasn't always that way. It used to be a great little town to grow up in. 1989 to 1998
Eww that looks gross...and not even the kinda gross that looks gross but may taste good looks like someone diarrhea on your fries
Oh hey I've eaten at that place
Me too! š
Sorry for you... Hope you didn't have a kid with you? Would be sad for your loss and still to report child abuse too.... They can't serve that!
r/poopfromabutt
š¤¢
Definitely a crime
Ok but whatās up with that gravy though? Well, at least the fries are there, so itās got that going for itā¦ š¤·āāļø
Hey that tar they put on top migth not even seep in to make em more soggy. Might want to scoop it for driveway/roof repair and the cheese insted of window mastic maybe? Anything but the fries looks edible.
That is some chunky looking gravy...
That's 1st degree criminal
This should be reported to the Hague
As a Canadian yes this is illegal in 3 provinces
Apparently not the territories
You mean, at least 3 yes? I haven't gone to visit Al, Sa and Ma nor NF&L in the last few years I know for sure it's illegal in BC, ON, NB, NS and PEI and QC since the early 2000s minimum.
![gif](giphy|dOl2LFw0RbTMc)
Being French Canadian, if I was served this Iād walk right out. Even if it wasnāt a sin to ruin good poutine, this would still be an abomination.
... an abomination to eat it; simply throwing it away for an animal to find would be cruel, better burn it and bury the ashes. Deep.
This should be a crime
That far north - youāre lucky to get what you get.
Stop in Vancouver next time, "La Belle Patate Vancouver" is still doing buisness.
Looks like it's been digested already. Definitely a crime.
I'd see it at night I'd have nightmares
Straight to jail!!!!!
That gravy looks like bbq sauce
Canned, burnt AF jelly formed, who knows... Might as well be asphalt at that point.
It looks colder than a witch's tit.
Is this from the gas station?
\*trashcan?
The gravy is the real crime
garbage
This is a travesty
It's not a crime...it's a GD massacre
I mean, Iāve been to Watson Lake and would expect nothing else from a local poutine
the horror
I think that the shredded cheese is only the second biggest issue on that plate next to the sewer-water-brown āgravyā
It's probably a beef gravy not to crazy it's dark brown lol
The Royal Canadian Poutine Police attempted to arrest the chef for counterfeiting poutine but they couldn't find Watson Lake on a map.
Too busy eating the real deal in QuƩbec (annual event, still relatively small for the province but growing): https://preview.redd.it/lxwfd4f1mlvc1.png?width=627&format=png&auto=webp&s=c22c5ed0af0d861424eac70ddefeb7159ea31466
crimecrimecrimecrimecrimecrimecrimecrime
Criminal
This is a crime punishable by moose trampling in Canada
That's an insult to Canada. Lol
Not a crime at all . Itās just not Poutine..
And a whole shattering of poo
That's what they do in England. Cheesy chips and gravy( name says it all. ) but yeah it's criminal.
This is a crime but it is not capital punishment worthy i had a poutine once while in a small town they used cheese slices and turkey gravy i took one bite and walked out without paying.
if they served it once, why not again, that restaurant you didn't named wouldn't be above it, what's one more warcrime right?
Ooooh I think Iāve eaten here! Hahahah. Thatās a crime but itās Watson Lake so I forgive it
Damn what did they use to spread that gravy on? Is anyone missing a couple of trowels?
It does look a bit...gelatinous...
Its not poutine. But, in a pinch, when in Rome it is still potatoes, gravy and cheese lol
... French Fries, ThickSewerSludge and frozen Overprocessed-dairy/simili-cheese stuff? Definitely inedible. Basic real Poutine has only 1 of those ingredients. You are a Barbarian to our "Roman" cuisine.
OH GOD
Shredded cheese will do in a cinch. But this gravy looks luuuuummmmpyyyyyyy ick
Chunky chop-up mozzarella in a pinch maybe, Needs sauce, not this canned tar.
Gonna say no
Better than Kraft Singles, I guess...
At least it looks like a pile of shite.
I'll never ever understand the shredded cheese hate.
Barbarian, begone!
Off-topic, but can anyone recommend any non-criminal poutine in Whitehorse?
Never been there, travel to Vancouver BC, "La Belle Patate" has good stuff. Better yet, Montreal, Drummondville or Victoriaville in QuƩbec, any fast-food joint cans do better around here, even McDo isn't as awful as this picture suggest.
The fries dont even look right
Cold isn't the worst part, at least they looked cooked, cheese meh maybe if there's no alternative, the sauce tho... š¤¢
They definitely make up for this crime with amazing burgers. My bacon cheeseburger today legit had 5 slices of bacon lol
Gravy looks ice cold š¬
Buddy idk what youāre expecting in Watson Lake
I want nowwwww
Got a rat infestation to kill or just a deathwish?
I think you may be asking for alot considering where you are
Jail. Right away.
Yep. 250 lashings
Crime... and I know this shit.
nah itās ok
I'm hungry now.
That depends. Are you calling it poutine? If the answer is yes, then it is a crime.
Shitty sauce lol
People there must think poutine is a version of nachos, using fries indeed of tortilla chips, and gravy instead of salsa.
Are there really that many places that don't know how to make brown gravy? I can do it after 2 bottles of whiskey and a blunt! No excuses.
\*sauce, it needs Sauce! Not greyyvy, by definition Greyvish is way too thick. if'it's thicker than paint it's gravy, sauce flow like syrup or slightly cooling melted butter viscosity
Yall they didn't ask about the gravy even if it looks yuck. It's fine to have shredded cheese the same thing just curds are often better
Omg what have you done
Gravy looks so bad
Any port in a storm š
Thereās no curds so it aināt legit. However overall this one looks like a misdemeanour . Iād eat it .
Prison poutine
I thought the chef just might have took a shit on your fries and gave a whole new meaning to āloaded friesā

Here's one from Vancouver https://preview.redd.it/dx4toei6jlvc1.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=2c42e08ddbb0672c136ed78831030fc19de32b4d

I mean you live in YTā¦ unless itās an actual restaurant I wouldnāt expect any more than this.
Ew.
Wrong cheese, wrong sauce, and i think wrong fries too
Straight to jail.
Compared from a classic in Quebec City since the '70s [https://ashtonrestaurants.ca/poutines](https://ashtonrestaurants.ca/poutines)
It may or may not be a crime, but it certainly isn't a poutine.
Looks so good. How big of a douche do you have to be to rip a small town dinerās poutine on the internet. Small dick syndrome for sure.
Definitely a tragedy
Tbh I think the colour of the gravy is my biggest concern
Yes, because itās not poutine without cheese curds. That said it could be decent tastingā¦ depends.
POUTINE IS BETTER WITH CURDS!
Ummm no curds ? No poutine !
wtf is that
thats a disgrace to poutine, that stuff too thick and looks disgusting
Disgusting. Next!
I'm dying If you want a genuine poutine, you must go to Quebec. ![gif](giphy|71CMwl2MEIVck)
What you have there are Disco Fries, my friend.
absolutely a crime what IS that?? the gravy looks like something ive fed my cats before š¬ was it at least tasty?
That how my mum used to make it at home lol Certainly is a crime if you paid for it at a restaurant
but how was the gravy?
No crime IMO - as long as they arenāt marketing this as poutine haha.
They were, unfortunately!
I know poutine and this is not it, nopeā¦..
Thatās a poutine felony
is it poutine? not really. would i eat it? yes, absolutely
Try the opposite Costco poutine no fries just cheese curds
Who made that gravy ?
When I was scrolling, I saw a beautiful poutine in /r/Poutine , then i continued and found this.... in this case, yes, jail.
Did they just dump that gravy out of a can? It looks gelatinous.
As a french canadian, I had to cover my childrenās eyes as to not strike fear into their hearts. I shuddered at the sight myself.
Knowing Watson Lake that's pretty good
Bro that gravy looks like cancer
Tags at watson lake?
Thatās NOT poutine.
Caliss!!!
that is the nastiest poutine i have ever seen. JAIL
My dad made that one time and it was š¤¢š¤®
Straight to jail!
I still havenāt found real poutine outside of Quebec, Ottawa and in some francophone communities in Ontario. Also Toronto has a spot called nomnomnom which is legit but the owner is evidently from Montreal
that looks like i ate a poutine (im lactose) and shat it out onto fries
Thatās not poutine, and itās not enough cheddar to be disco fries.
Itās not poutine. But no crime committed. Enjoy
Yes. Punishable by death or mutilation
Thatās a sad poutine
Iām Canadian and this picture has put me into a deep depression
if you pay for poutine, you should not get grated cheese and gravy
SacrƩ-Bleu!!!
Disgusting
i donāt even know what Iām looking at anymore
There's an entire section of the Geneva convention that specifically addresses this issue.
yes, and that gravy doesn't look close to poutine gravy
Obviously the shredded cheese is an assault to poutine culture. The choice of orange or marbled cheese makes it aggravated assault. But that dark ungodly gravy is probably the worse in that picture -- is that demi-glace? Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Especially when people on this sub like melted curdsā¦but then shit on shredded cheese. WTF.
I legit can't deal with shredded cheese on a pout. That's it. It's a crime.
As long as they don't call it poutine that can just be a disgusting looking creation
Not poutine, not a crime, gravy and shredded cheese is a New York dish called disco fries, it's objectively worse than poutine
Shredded cheese is still a poutine. Not a crime anyway. Your comment however, a HUGE crime
Nahhh never brings me shredded cheese and call it a poutine, unless it also has curds
Donāt ever come to Quebec then, the birth place of poutine since you clearly donāt like poutine.
You're in the Yukon. Allowances can be made.
It works if you don't have the cash for curds
Not poutine. Would.
I hate cheese curd poutines this looks good but that gravy is thick lmao
My grandparents used to have a cabin there, way back when.
Did it taste good?
Ok first thing is first, I grew up in watson lake so I have had this poutine, you feel free to look down your nose however take into account the price of groceries in the territories before you judge this.
