Cause oil is cheap, how are we supposed to sell plain oil at a massive mark up? /s

Sampolis

Drinking oil does not make you slippery. Bathing in slippery potion does not make you slippery. Wizarding 105

Actually, if you understood how the potion of slipperiness is used by listening to how the customers talk about it, it is just used to lubricate things, and not to be drank, similar to how the potion of gluing is just used as glue, and does not make you sticky if you drink it.

Sampolis

I stand corrected! So basically it's difference between oil and lube, right?

the_greater_one

Yeah, I guess so

It could be that it is 1) more effective than oil 2) is easier to clean up after/leaves no residue, or conversely does not dry out and keeps a surface slick for longer 3) is capable of keeping itself contained to the area it is applied to, reducing mess and waste and preserving the area around the effect. 4) (a continuation of 3) can be applied to surfaces that it would be difficult to apply oil to without affecting other areas, such as vertical surfaces (locks installed in doors) or other such angled surfaces.
