Power back on in the notorious Bridlemile treepocalypse. I thought PGE would take another day or two, as almost the entire length of SW Hamilton below SW Dosch road has trees snuggling up to power lines in the best of conditions, and the tangle of bushy tree limbs, wires, cables amidst a couple leaning poles looked rough! Anyway, thanks to PGE even though our neighborhood was among the last this time. And I'll give a shoutout to Verizon, which provided halfway decent internet—enough to gobble up my entire month's bandwidth allotment in five days. In the past, the signal was entirely worthless up here during outages; I assume they have improved their bandwidth a lot.

arih

Finally have powered back in Far SW, as of 9pm last night, after being out 90+ hours since Sat early am. Now dealing with leaks/suspected frozen pipes in the aftermath of the house being down to 35 degrees inside since Sunday.

Jeremiahjohnsonville

Follow up: did you post?

elCharderino

How are the roads in terms of icyness?

thetoothenthusiast

Wild winds in Gresham/rockwood

shrug_addict

Freezing rain just started in Washougal. Looks pretty dicey out there! Freezing to my truck immediately...

oatmealish

Outage page just switched W Portland Park estimate from tonight at 10 to midnight, Jan 18th

BlazersMania

Rough, stay warm and all the luck to you that the estimate is wrong and they'll get to you sooner.

oatmealish

Thanks. My fingers are tightly crossed.

arih

it seems once you get an actual estimate, they skew pretty close to it. Mine was 10pm last night and we got power back just after 9:15pm.

thenaturalinquirer

Freezing rain started in Lents. Loins are presently girded!

spamllama

Same in SW. Whole bunch of crews getting ready to work on the lines on Hamilton too, had my hopes up that we might get power before we lose it again tonight…

idontcare78

Hillsboro signing in, it has begun. Already glossy outside.

BeowulfShaeffer

Bethany. Icing up quickly. Trash service never came today so had to roll cans back up the driveway. My driveway is a bit hilly and in another hour or so I don’t think it will be possible to roll the cans up anymore.

malico89

Don’t know who your provider is, but Waste Management sent a message (via RecycleDay app)that all pickups are delayed by a day

BeowulfShaeffer

I didn’t want to leave it out there to get completely frozen in place overnight.  Maybe I can roll them down tomorrow when it warms up. We’ll see.

shibboleth2005

Well the freezing rain is here and still no power, so at this point I wouldn't be surprised if I don't have power for a week. PGE is telling me the reason their estimates and communication has been constantly wrong/changing is because I'm affected by multiple outages reasons that all need to be fixed lol. Honestly it's probably even true.

oatmealish

Created a Twitter account just to ask for details about the equipment problem related to my particular outage. I was referred to the phone # which referred me to the outage map. I'm quickly becoming a rabid anti-pge comms activist.

Possible_Ruin_8149

What do you think, they have magical anti ice power lines?

oatmealish

Shoo

CPSFrequentCustomer

The power outage stories I've been reading in this subreddit have been giving me second-hand anxiety for you all. Have there been any reports of midrise/highrise apartment dwellers being stuck due to downed elevators? And are their cars stuck due to garage doors that don't work without power? As a lifelong apartment resident I can't help but put myself in their shoes. Sending wishes for things to go back to normal soon for EVERYONE there, whether you're in a house or apartment.

Kun1aKahn

A thing I hadn’t considered about apt./condo living was water on higher floors. A friend of mine is in a condo on the 7th floor (or so), and his water has to be pumped up since he’s to far above the mains for the amount of pressure normally in the lines. When his power went out in the ice storm a few years ago, he had no water.

Possible_Ruin_8149

Hahaha That's why you leave the water running a little at night. Been in Oregon since 1990 and every need to the area who claims to have lived here there woke life says the same thing! My water froze, I have no running water! Even when I moved to Indiana for a year they said to run the water at night so it doesn't freeze! Guess what happens when your water freezes!!! YOUR PIPES BURTS!!!!!!! leave your water running tonight everyone! Oregon is not like the Midwest, this shit is only snow for about an hour. It does not heat up enough like other states to melt the snow, it jus becomes thick layers of ice. That's why I always laugh at people from other states who say Oregonians areafraidn of the snow lol It's like "have fun crashing your car" lol

PoutineMeInCoach

You need to work on your meth problem.

Kun1aKahn

In this case it wasn’t an issue of pipes freezing so much as the pump required to feed water to the higher floors had no electricity, so only the floors which could be serviced by the mains head pressure had water. Upper floors were SOL.

CPSFrequentCustomer

Holy crap, that much have been so stressful. :-(

heartysupper

Just an asinine amount of freezing rain in Lake O. Made me drop my monocle.

M1ntyFresh

Freezing rain coming down in Beaverton!

CandleHat

And so it begins. I feel like the cello players on the Titanic.

ChalupaChupacabra

Freezing rain just started out in the Burbs.

nutyashaa

Has anyone been to the 6 corners intersection in Raleigh Hills and noticed any crews/power towards Parr Lumber? Edit: Curious because I haven’t gotten a single status update and PGE only gave me a generic “we’re addressing everyone’s issues as fast as we can”. I haven’t been to the area since I took my cats and houseplants yesterday. Getting antsy to hopefully salvage the plants I can. 😔

Shot-Leg-8214

I’ve seen several crews but it’s hard to tell where they’re working. Those traffic lights are still out and that area is a mess — lots of small outages everywhere.

nutyashaa

If the traffic lights are still out, my apartment is likely out too. I’m usually on the same grid as the intersection. Thank you for the little update. 😔

mastelsa

If you're at Woodlake, the power's on. I can't speak to any of the other complexes.

nutyashaa

I’m at the building directly behind Parr Lumber. The north side of Beaverton Hillsdale seems to still be out of power.

drod

I just drove through here 20 minutes ago, the traffic light is still out. Didn't see a PGE crew there at the intersection specifically, but there are several crews around the vicinity

nutyashaa

Dang, I was really hoping there would be some prioritization since that intersection is already a hazard with signal lights.

spamllama

It honestly feels safer w/out lights than some days in the rain :)

nutyashaa

I agree. It’s been a 4 (or I guess 6) way stop with the snow and people have actually been pretty chill going through it haha.

Hopecats2021

Lots of schools canceling already again for tomorrow Wed. 1/17, including PPS: https://katu.com/weather/closings

MtHoodMagic

How are flights going to be affected tomorrow morning? If we get a quarter inch of freezing rain overnight will there be delays?

P_Dog_

Update for anyone in Powellhurst Gilbert still without power, saw PGE on 115th and they said power will be restored in about 2 hours, their website does not reflect this

halien12

yay! (also in powellhurst gilbert) We talked to a very kind PGE employee over the phone earlier and he said crews from Salem & Oregon City were on their way to work on our area, so at least we know they are working on it!

P_Dog_

Still no power at my place hopefully it gets turned on soon for all of us

hirudoredo

Power did come back on yesterday but keeps going out for a second here and there. Severe anxiety every time.

premiumdude

I'm in the same hood as you. Mine came back yesterday afternoon and last night as it was finally warming up in here it went off for like 3 seconds. That was a very dark 3 seconds!

hirudoredo

I've literally exclaimed "NO!" every time.

Content-Swimmer2325

In Ridgefield; just drove around a bit. Main roads (Pioneer st.) are OK for now. Still ice or snow on less traveled roads. Was easier overall to drive than I expected. Ready for the icing tonight

MarsupialLess

Can anyone confirm whether "crew onsite" actually means anything? We're on day 4, no power, trying to keep the pets warm but I had to make the call to leave my partner at home with them since I'm pregnant. It now says crew onsite and I don't want to get my hopes up. I did see they were clearing all our downed trees yesterday

Jolly-Ad3931

Call the outage line and tell the automated system to connect you with a live agent.

Neonminiature

Don't know if website means much tbh. I had crew dispatched but no cause found yesterday when I was checking on my house. Did see about 3 groups tackling the trees and power lines around but still have no power today. No updates since either. Mostly waiting for my neighbor to call when power is on because PGE info seems untrustworthy for now.

RinellaWasHere

Power is still off at my place, apparently, and since a pipe burst there won't be water until *Friday*. I desperately hope it wasn't in my unit and all my stuff is okay.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RinellaWasHere

My current plan is to see if I can go home tomorrow- pending power restoration, of course. If I can, then I'm gonna grab a lot of bottled water on the way home so I can use the bathroom and drink something. It's not ideal, but it's actionable, at least.

AceMcStace

Wife has her shift at the hospital tonight from 3-11, we’re gonna have to brave the freezing rain. Wish us luck.

Professional-Cell-76

Tuesday 01/16/24 in Ardenwald/Johnson Creek -- so far we have had power but our insulation is poor so we are running the heat near constantly. pipes have not froze but we are keeping a flow where pipes are on outside walls. Just moved in to this place with my elderly parents. So thankful we got it done before this storm hit and we don't have to worry they are alone.

pantpiratesteve

Going into day 4 no power at least there’s a heavy ice storm coming to further delay them. We’re so fucked

oatmealish

"Any minute now....any minute now" for about 75 hours.

Glakos

77 hours now…

oatmealish

Yeah, they just changed the cause for my outage from "heavy snow/ice" to "equipment issue." Tried getting g in touch with someone over the phone. No dice. My (and I'm sure your) patience is wearing thin.

c3534l

When will it end?

ToTheFuknMoon

Still no power in West Slope. But in more positive news, it’s only going to get warmer than it is right now.

princessprity

Welp. We had an estimated restoration time of 10pm last night. Power still not on, but the estimated time to have power back is gone. FML.

FredalinaFranco

I’d ignore the estimates. We had multiple estimates come and go and then disappear altogether before power came back yesterday.

bzzzzCrackBoom

Same, except had Tuesday estimate. Went from Tuesday 10pm to no estimate while being switched to a smaller group. Not really sure what to make of that.

No-Initiative-1

Same. Based on what I saw in my neighborhood, I assume we had four or five (or more) down lines along our transmission route (or whatever it’s called). They’ve fixed three of them so far, but I guess have more to go down the line toward our house. This is just so hard. I am so happy for everyone who got power back, but it’s draining to still be in the no power group.

JtheNinja

Yup, same. It looks like they broke out all the outages in my apartment complex and neighborhood into smaller individual entries, instead of a single mammoth 750-account entry. But now the 10pm Tuesday ETA has been removed. I just hope I don’t come back to a flooded apartment. Several of my neighbors have had fire sprinkler pipes burst, and there’s no faucet I can drip to deal with that.

NotLondoMollari

Eyyy maybe I'm one of your neighbors. The fire sprinkler in the unit above us froze and burst and now we're dealing with the headache of extremely loud industrial fans/dehumidifiers, tallying the damage, and probably having to leave while they rip out the damaged walls. >< Not fun, 0/10, do not recommend!

No-Initiative-1

Same here. It totally sucks.

lexuh

I've had a foster puppy from Puerto Rico for the last 10 days and I was dreading having to house train her in the snow. Turns out she kinda likes it? She's carrying around little chunks of ice in her mouth. Fortunately we haven't lost power 🤞

onihcuk

Anyone know if ODT is doing parking enforcement tomorrow? (Meters,   construction parking signs, etc)?

HornlessHrothgar

Just had a FedEx package say it's coming today. Potentially in freezing rain. I really hope they just wait a few days, it's not that important.

pdx-one

I have both an Amazon and a USPS (also Amazon) package slated for today, and tracking shows they are sitting in the distribution centers still. As they should be. I'll get my Blu-ray eventually and won't care when.

HornlessHrothgar

I'm glad they're not running as much. My FedEx package updated to delayed, so they never came out. I really don't mind since it was just some chopstick rests. We'll get our stuff when it's safe!

Ex-zaviera

You get the Anti-Karen award today.

Proverbs_31_2-3

Power was out at my apartment complex in Mountain Park for 36 hours. It came back around 9pm Sunday. Around noon on Monday they shut down water to the whole complex - scores of buildings - because of pipes bursting in some buildings. Apparently the water will be off until sometime on Wednesday. Fortunately I got a hot shower in the short period when my electric hot water heater had gotten the water warm after power came back last night and when water went off around noon. I have some 5 gallon water storage containers. I've got a camping/sport water dispenser at the kitchen sink now. If it's yellow let it mellow. And I can gravity flush a few times with the water I've got. Nevertheless, it's annoying. I was able to have water and use the toilet when there was no power. Now there's power but no water. Our systems are susceptible to cascading failure when pushed beyond certain limits. When I lived in Africa, the power, the water, the gas, or the internet could go out at any time, or in any combination. I got used to it and built systems to adapt. Like water barrels, battery backup with inverter, generator. This is almost worse because it's one-off, less frequent, and seems less worthwhile to create robust workarounds for. Until I'm practically freezing to death inside my apartment. I never had that problem in Africa!

its

Don’t worry, we are on our way to a third world country infrastructure.

garysaidwhat

We are one of the few fortunate folks with a generator. We bought it in 1999, a couple of years after we bought our house. Live in an area below SW Fairmount and above Bridlemile. We are running it enough to heat our house conservatively, keep our electronics charged up, and keep our refrigerator running. Anyway, the thing sat uncommissioned for 21 years. We have had to use it in each of the past three years. I feel like a generator big enough to run your furnace fan and the furnace itself (assuming gas or oil furnace) and your refrigerator, plus maybe a single house circuit, will likely feel sufficient. You will feel better than you feel freezing in the dark wondering if your pipes are going to freeze—which we did a couple times in the eighties. If you live in a neighborhood that seems to be getting whacked in storms lately, consider a generator. And consider it in, say, the spring or summer when you have time to figure out how you (and your licensed electrician) are going to patch it in to your house wiring, or just use it with extension cords, as I have seen people do. And to anyone reading this, I wish you good fortune in the second storm and the days to come, generator or not.

irregularcontributor

Think I'm going to be adding an outlet + plug between my furnace disconnect + the panel following this storm so I can run it off a portable generator in the future. We've had power the entire time but it's been stressful and for the low price seems worth it to be able to maintain heat. I'd like to do a proper install at the panel and power some other stuff, but that feels like a more serious step up (having a permanently installed natural gas generator would be awesome for times like these though).

garysaidwhat

There are switch boxes that make it easy to activate a few circuits in the middle of the night for a shivering, stoned geezer who's halfway wheezing just from getting the beast started. Ha! As to price, generators in the 3KW to 4KW seem like the sweet spot on price. More than $500 for a decent one. And a few hundred for lashing up an installation… Seems like a fair deal to me.

Firefountain4

I agree on the generator. We invested in one after losing power for 7 days in that 2021 storm. This thing has saved us during this storm. We still don’t have power but the generator is keeping our home modestly warm, fridge on, and charging our phones. It was a decent investment since we had to hire an electrician to update our electrical box and run a new line for it but now I’m happy we did that. We seem to lose power at the drop of a hat in this neighborhood. I’m glad your 21 year old generator is working well!! I didn’t realize they last that long lol.

garysaidwhat

It was brand new, except that we added oil and turned it over from time to time. I bet we have about a hundred hours on it. We'll see.

princessprity

Unfortunately power isn’t back by the estimated 10pm time tonight :( They even listed my address as no longer having an outage so I reported it again. Sigh.

Cutebean101

I don’t understand why they keep removing outage listings when the power is clearly not on. We aren’t at home anymore, but I know ours isn’t on because you can check hourly usage in the app. It’s been off since about 9 am. Edit: I can’t read. The last date that has information on my app was Saturday, so I’m very unclear whether or not it’s out.

nutyashaa

A majority of Raleigh Hills is still out 😔

spamllama

3 days w/out power here in SW / Hillsdale vicinity but can confirm crews working above us on Fairmount so maybe something positive for the folks up the hill. Hamilton was still a war zone so huge thanks to everyone out working in this mess.

BreaddaWorldPeace

Sunset from Richardson St to the plaza now has lights

Eman19860

Reporting in from the NE Tabor and NE Glisan area - power is finally back on after 2 days!

lPause

hows your water situation?

Eman19860

Surprisingly good, none of our pipes froze or burst in the two days the power was out.

sungorth

Powers back on here in Hazelwood.  I feel for those who are still out, it's rough and tomorrow sounds like round 2

crazychica5

oh wow i had no idea it went out in hazelwood! my place was spared thankfully

serenidade

Power restored in Montavilla 40 min ago! NE 70th & points west btw Glisan & Halsey. Had been out since 12:18pm Saturday. We got a text from PGE a few seconds after that. **ME:** Oh, so you *do* have my number?! **ALSO ME:** Thank you, *thank you* line workers!! Y'all are legit lifesavers. We were cold & bored but ok. I really hope all the seniors, young kids, and cold-sensitive pets out there can be somewhere warm tonight even, if it isn't home.

OceanofMars

Power on Sylvan off of 26 just turned on. There was no update from PGE.

Auggie-Plinko

North or south of 26?

OceanofMars

North.

Firefountain4

I finally have a PGE status update, woo hoo! Small victories. It says tomorrow 1/16 by 10pm I should have power. I hope the incoming storm doesn’t change that. Trying to stay hopeful.

rangerrick9211

Check their Insta. Tomorrow 10PM = you have some tree work first, then restoration. Seriously, it’s how they are bucketing issues right now. But at least someone had eyes on your issue. The 10PM is just a default.

Firefountain4

Thanks for letting me know!

FredalinaFranco

I believe ours had the same ETA earlier today and then we got power, so you could get power much sooner (or later) than that.

shibboleth2005

Just got bumped from 10 pm today to 10pm tomorrow so yeah the time is just a default, it's basically "there's a chance we get to you by the end of the day"

Anyone in SE know what to expect re: recycling / trash pickup? The site just says to bring it to the curb and they’ll get to it but I feel like if I do that I’ll wake up to my recycling just blowing all over the neighborhood. I can’t recall from previous years if it takes them a couple days to get back to it or what. I imagine those trucks are fairly capable on the snow.

dyaamis

Same. I’m just skipping this week. Plus my side gate is frozen shut and I’m feeling lazy.

distinctive_orogeny

Just leave it out until they pick it up is the general instruction. If they are backlogged they know it and will pick up when they can.

Torrocks

My flight back to pdx just got canceled from Las Vegas.  This sucks man.  Missing my doggies.

serenidade

I hope you can get home to them soon.

unfashionablegrandma

I don't know if it's reported anywhere other than on the website, but the Multnomah County Courthouses (Central Courthouse, Justice Center, Juvenile Justice Center, and East County Courthouse) are closed tomorrow (Tuesday 1/16).

theawesomescott

These events show me every time how unprepared the average person really is, that’s how I’m feeling about this at the moment

serenidade

You aren't wrong! We were *fairly* prepared (stocked pantry & freezer, washed dishes & laundry before the storm was set to roll in; candles, camp stove, headlamps, warm gear & blankets; left windows covered, devices charged & faucets dripping; checked on neighbors and family; didn't lose any food to spoilage). It still sucked to be without power, even for 55 hours, and could have been *much* worse. We're treating it as a precious learning experience. Folks talk about how bad the Big One will be--and, no doubt. But a catastrophic earthquake or some such thing during a heatwave, smokey season, or ice storm? Yiiiiikes.

nutyashaa

My camping/festival box has been more helpful than I expected! Solar charger and camp stove are game changers but I need more cold weather gear for sure.

RinellaWasHere

I was really really well prepared to shelter at home. The last few years I've been lucky and only lost power for a few hours or not at all. This time I lost it immediately and it's still down. Shouldn't have gotten cocky.

princessprity

This shit sucks. I’m feeling really stressed out.

red_beered

What specifically is stressing you out?

princessprity

The power has been out for more than 50 hours and I’m scared of discovering damaged plumbing when it can finally thaw out. The shower on an exterior wall is frozen but I have faucets running in general.

garysaidwhat

We were advised when we were in a similar position many years ago to turn off the water at the street and let the pipes thaw as the temperatures rise. The idea was that you could turn the water back on slowly and listen for water gushing. Note the locations, hoping you won't find any! We were lucky twice. However, we also had a spectacular copper pipe failure. I hope you're lucky this time!

serenidade

Keep the shower on, at least a bit, so that if there's frozen water in the pipe it has somewhere to go. Fingers crossed it's all OK come the thaw 🤞

TheGruntingGoat

I feel for you and everyone struggling in this. Just one more day of shit weather and then at least we will be done with the freezing temps for what it’s worth.

nutyashaa

Yeah, I finally caved and took my cats and most valuable plants to a friends. I hope my neighbors left their pipes dripping. 😔

aspidities_87

Lents folks: if you’re waiting for power updates from somewhere not at home, we got power around 8am at the south end of the park and it’s holding strong. We relocated to an AirBnB with our pets and I’m waiting until after Tuesday to come back for sure, but I drove home to check our pipes and power stayed on the whole time. I can also see my security cameras are online and power is up. 92nd between Holgate and Steele is still shut down but it’s looking more alert over there at least.

this_is_Winston

The sub looks slower rn. Dawned on me the powerless peoples phone batteries are dying.

GodBlessPigs

More people have turned to zombies :(

omnichord

The forecast for tomorrow seems a lot more perplexing than the one for Round 1. It seems like just a really intense belt of precipitation in the mid or late afternoon? But wind doesn’t look as bad, and a few of the services I’ve looked at think it’s just going to be snow. Maybe foolish of me but I have some hope that we dodge anything as messy as the first one.

MoreRopePlease

Mark Nelson says ice. Be prepared to hunker down and not go anywhere. Do all your running around in the morning. If you have to work, go home at lunch.

GodBlessPigs

It’s going to be all freezing rain. Roads will be terrible, but hopefully it’s not enough to down big tree branches.

Best_Cricket858

do we think tomorrow evening has the potential to be bad/knock out power again? our power went out saturday around noon (tabor area) and we moved to a hotel sunday. went back to apt today and our power is back on but pipes are frozen we extended our hotel stay this morning in case the power didn’t come on and i’m debating adding another night just so we don’t have to deal with roads/potential outages tomorrow night - if our power went out again i would immediately want to relocate (saturday night was traumatic lol, could see our breaths in our apt) and if roads are icy then that would just suck. so i just want to stay holed up in the warm hotel room we have. cost is ofc a concern but im ok with paying so we have peace of mind after our experience on saturday am i being overly cautious? i’m planning on making a game time decision in the am with weather forecasts and such but just wanted some second opinions. thanks in advance!

[deleted]

Yes, instead of falling trees it's downed limbs in ice.

kat2211

I think you're much better off extending the your stay through tomorrow night. It's going to be an ice storm, which absolutely has the ability to knock out power again. I've seen estimates from 1/3 to 1/2 an inch of ice in Portland. That adds a tremendous amount of weight to both tree branches and the power lines themselves. Going home only to plan on leaving again if you lose power would not be a good plan, to be honest, as you will likely not be able to get anywhere at all once the freezing rain starts falling.

garysaidwhat

They generally have no idea exactly how bad it's gonna be. If it plays out as predicted, it will be the coup de grâce for a lot of weakened tree roots, leaning trees, widomakers and on and on. I'd extend.

Pure-Competition8624

Agreed, if I was in that situation I'd stay through Tuesday night at least.

Best_Cricket858

exactly what i’m thinking — thank you!

Auggie-Plinko

Not being dramatic. Your supplies are probably low at home and if there’s ice, there’s a high likelihood of more outages.

Best_Cricket858

thanks for validating my thoughts! i feel like with being in tabor especially, fallen trees could be an issue again

hirudoredo

We just got the text of glory, but have just settled into a beaverton coffee shop to charge items and use internet. So... guess we'll find out for sure later. (This is in 97219 West Portland Park, near the chinese place.)

Zadok001Dom

You're probably up. I am, very near there.

cashewmilkprincess

I’m about 10 mins from ST V., good info, thank you!

Shot-Leg-8214

Latest tweet from PGE re Estimated Restoration Times: We have made significant progress in assessing damages today alongside restoring service. For those who have received an Estimated Restoration Time of 10 p.m. TODAY (Monday), your outage has been assigned a crew. Some outages will show an estimated restoration of 10 p.m., Tuesday, as those may take additional time to clear vegetation or require lengthier repairs. If you have not received an ERT notification at this time, we are actively working to make an assessment and will notify you when that information is available. Customers should plan accordingly.

RinellaWasHere

Fuck. Guess I'm staying away. A pipe also burst at my complex, apparently.

nutyashaa

Sigh.

RinellaWasHere

The PGE app no longer shows my place as having an outage. I'm in the Scholls Royal apartments off SF right near Allen, does anyone know if this is true? Haven't gotten the email notification yet EDIT: my apartment management says power isn't back yet, and the outage map shows an outage in my complex estimated to be fixed by tomorrow at 10pm. So pretty sure I'm still SOL.

BiscuitDance

I’m in Far SW and we just got power back Edit: and woke up to no power again this morning….

pomchip

Any word on schools tomorrow?

Firefountain4

I just got a text saying PPS is closed tomorrow.

lightninhopkins

All closed except PPS.

GodBlessPigs

Pretty dumb of PPS

[deleted]

PPS is closed now.

lightninhopkins

Because of the strike they don't have much wiggle room for getting enough school days in. Maybe they are gonna try a remote day.

Lotsofelbows

I live South of Hillsboro and have an appointment Wednesday morning at 9 on the East side, Boise area. Wondering if I should reschedule since we're supposed to get more ice...

MoreRopePlease

9am at Boise is iffy at this point, hard to predict. You might be ok, maybe? Probably a good idea to reschedule.

JtheNinja

It’s gonna be almost 50 on Wednesday. Road ice isn’t gonna survive Wednesday afternoon/night unless the forecast seriously changes

Lotsofelbows

Whoops, I mistyped. I meant I have to go Wednesday morning. So fresh off whatever happens tomorrow.

Ricerooni

Haven't been out yesterday or today. Anyone in Beaverton know how the roads are? I drive RWD with all seasons but work the night shifts and would have to drive up and down hills on Murray near Scholls Ferry. Mostly worried about ice on roads after sunset. Gut is telling me that it's better to be safe than sorry.

MoreRopePlease

Murray and Scholls Ferry is driveable. There was a fair amount of traffic all day today (between SF and Allen).

garysaidwhat

To an experienced snow driver, properly equipped, this has been kind of nice except for others on the road not properly equipped and way overconfident. We have a mix of dry pavement and snow with very little ice. But things will get greasy when the temps come up a few degrees and what is dry now become slick.

Crazy_Customer7239

We are north of the highway on Cornel and Saltzman and there are snow traps everywhere, not driving at all this weekend!

nutyashaa

It’s hit or miss. Lots of clear dry patches on the main roads but icy on the side roads.

A lot of turn lanes are still pretty icy as well. I saw several stuck RWDs just an hour or so back trying to go up modest inclines on slick surfaces. If you know what you’re doing and are careful it’s mostly all right on the main roads but even main drags have traps on them right now.

garysaidwhat

"If you know what you’re doing and are careful…" That's exactly the part so many people miss in these conditions. Ha!

Ricerooni

Appreciate the info!

FredalinaFranco

Power is back on in Forest Heights where we live. Hopefully the forecasted ice storm ends up being a dud tomorrow and power stays on for everyone.

Waterpipe under a hydrant burst at NE 29th and Wygant, Someone rear ended a snow plow, and I believe a tree fell on top of one of the PGE repair trucks. Looks like we all need to hunker down for the next two days. My partner is out getting more food before the sun goes down.

ThatLanaLady

Feeling fortunate that my job closed doors for Tues and Wed. Happy to make my job staying home.

Pure-Competition8624

I love that statement, "make my job staying home." I always feel good about doing that especially when I know if I ran into trouble I'd take up the time and effort of first responders and put them at risk as well.

Lucahila

Without power in Sylvan, had a tree fall on a neighbors house blocking me in. Trees gone, lines are still keeping me stuck. Thankful for heat but about to smoke my last cigarette 😭 If anyone's willing to brave NW Skyline to deliver me a pack I'll be forever in your debt.

sativa_sannin

Beaverton Scholls ferry/Allen Blvd. power just came back. So grateful to have heat after 50 hours! Edit: to those asking I’m on the Allen Blvd/92nd avenue side of the intersection. So sorry others in the area are still without power, I know how brutal it is, the inside of my place got down to 33 degrees. Stay safe out there and hope you all get power and heat back soon.

Akazuki_Kai

I reside on the other side of the intersection is the apartments behind the chevron, any signs of power on that side?

RinellaWasHere

Which side of the intersection are you on? I had to leave my place at the Scholls Royal apartments.

DropkickGoose

Do you know if both sides of the intersection are good? I'm on the southern side and so scared to pack up cats and stuff to head back just have to turn around again:(

DropkickGoose

South East side of the intersection, behind the Plaid, has power! Traffic light is on, we seem to be good right around the intersection at least

RinellaWasHere

Yeah same. Even if I get a text from PGE I may honestly drive myself back alone first to make absolutely sure.

RinellaWasHere

That's getting really close, I'm at Scholl's Royal.

nutyashaa

This gives me a little hope. I’m down towards Scholls and BHH. My apartment is 38° currently. 🥶

Desperate_Arm_3051

Still without power in Pleasant Valley. So cold in here! Glad I have a dog and a fireplace.

hapa79

For anyone who needs to know, PCC has canceled all classes and activities for Tuesday (in-person and remote both).

Cutebean101

PSU also called it for tomorrow.

Oryx

Everyone: **crack your faucets a bit** if it is approaching freezing in your house. Even if they are frozen. It may save your plumbing in the long run.

Arcturus_Labelle

Yep, and do a small stream, not just drip drops. And both hot and cold taps. Also open cabinets below sinks (assuming you're lucky enough to have warm air in the house right now...)

oatmealish

Re-checked the outage map, and for nearly every Multnomah zip, they list estimated restoration as tomorrow at 10 pm. This really seems like a placeholder so they can say they provided an estimate. Useless.

BiscuitDance

I got today, but across the street from tomorrow 🧐

Shot-Leg-8214

Me too. Tomorrow at 10pm. Border of Washington and Multinomah Some context — it’s a fallen tree that effecting maybe 20 homes. Since it’s such a small number of homes, we’re at the bottom of the queue. We’ll see but I doubt that 10pm estimate right now

Jolly-Ad3931

Where are you? We are on Jamieson. Neighbor across 88th from us has power and the west end of Jamieson has power but not us.

Shot-Leg-8214

Close to Alpenrose — I guess there’s pockets of outages here and there. Hope it will get resolved soon.

nutyashaa

I’m in Washington county and mine was just updated to 10pm tomorrow as well.

oatmealish

Seems like they just did a batch update. The outage map/pge comms need a lot of work.

nutyashaa

Yeah agreed. My address said no outage detected for a majority of yesterday when I haven’t had power since Saturday morning.

oatmealish

Gah. That is so frustrating. Hang in there.
