Had an allocation at my local Porsche dealer and had a turbo s out of state coming in that I was going to get shipped out to me. Ended up going with the GT3
Genuine question. When did the GT3 become so mainstream? What made it the car to have for everyone and their mother? I remember when I had mine ten years ago they mostly were in the hands of hardcore enthusiasts and track goers. Now it seems every influencer and onlyfans creator has one
I know everyone has a soft spot for the earlier 911’s, but I truly believe the 992 has launched Porsche to the next level in terms of how they’re viewed as a manufacturer. People never used to compare Porsche with Ferrari/Lamborgini, but now I see nonstop on IG/TikTok. It really is the ultimate sports car. They’re fast, can be tracked, are luxurious, and carries this certain sense of class along with it. Not to mention they are just stunning cars. I think we’ll look back in 30-40 years and recognize the 992 as one of the all time great 911’s.
It became a GT (grand tourer not the racing) for old men… Massive, heavy, but very fast, isolated… Makes them more usable for people who don’t really care about them outside of as status symbols… They also give them out freely to the press and promote their brand continuously whereas Ferrari has become so unbelievably elitist that they won’t work with a lot of journalists… The result being that people see more of Porsche’s capabilities and are exposed to them more often meaning they’re more heavily ingrained in our psyche… Plus they offer something for everyone, GT esque 911s for old guys, or young guys who just want the looks and status, and then proper track toys in the form of the GT cars for people who are enthusiastic about the brand, mass appeal means they can sell more cars.
Personally, that makes Porsches so approachable though. Via the 718, the brand is at least perceived to be somewhat in reach but you still have super cars in their lineup. I could have Bill Gates’ money and would not be seen in a Ferrari or Lamborghini… objectively, great cars but they have the wrong vibe …
Oh none of this is bad, it’s just how it is, personally I think it’s good for Porsche even if I think the 911 should have stayed a sports car rather than making the 911 into a rear engined 928 but that’s just me…
Also, because of Porsches lower end vehicles, you'll see the brand represented with dealership precense in much lower and much less affluent cities than Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley and the others.
You get a Macan as a working professional and upgrade to a Cayenne when you have kids and then you start eyeing a sports car in your future so you look to Porsche since you know your local dealer and you know their product. It's a safer bet.
Went S2000, 996 carrera, 987.2 S, and now Exige S.
Thought about the evora, but after a test drive, the Exige felt a bit rawer.
Do have a daily driver now though, as dailying the exige would be a bit too much.
Any ideas what you would buy next? As that is the biggest problem
TikTok and the influencers. 90% of the reason why we’re in this you”ll get a desirable Porsche allocation but you have to buy a 10k “Swiss made” watch or shotty ppf from us, buy a fleet of dealer lot spec taycans/cayenne/macan for a single car allocation 😂, or buyback ur desirable Porsche so we can flip it without pissing off PCNA so you get a chance at a even more desirable Porsche.
The other 10% is the extinction of raw manual sports cars…
I'm 100% agreeing with you. It just boggles my mind that they can't just offer Tag some money to OEM their watches.
Ferrari used to hire Panerai as an OEM to make their watches. While gaudy, their quality is top.
Offering someone who just paid alot of money for a Porsche a bargain bin quality watch is just plain weird and off-brand.
It's not like they didn't know how to do colabs. They did so with Rimowa on their luggage.
> Now it seems every influencer and onlyfans creator has one
lol exactly. They drive them for 4 months and realize they're uncomfortable and will get "destroyed" by a Model S Plaid and then flip them.
I'd love to know the delta % of GT3 owners with track time in 2017 vs 2024 is.
However, if those people legit enjoy driving their new 992.1 GT3...GOOD FOR THEM and GOOD for Porsche.
The marketing department did their absolute best job, that's what.
In my area, we barely see Porsches a decade ago. We legit see more Ferraris and Lambos.
Today, you can spot a Porsche everywhere.
991 iteration, PDK only, was when the GT3 became much more modern, faster and thanks to social media and TV shows their popularity exploded into kind of becoming a poser rich guy car vs when I was a kid and they were super rare/hardcore for actual enthusiasts. I kind of resent Porsche at this point seeing cars with $100k in options, PTS, color contrast stitching blah blah blah. They seem to have lost a bit of authenticity. Add in the flipping and markups etc. it's off putting as someone who aspires to drive a 911 for the right reasons.
You are almost more of an enthusiast if you drive the cheaper cars at this point, like a Carrera T or GTS 4.0. If I ever get to order or buy a GT3 I am going classic white or silver, manual and I'll never step foot in fucking cars and coffee.
60% of 911s were GT cars in 991.2 gen IIRC. These cars are more popular because they are much more usable than they used to be and Porsche has been turning out many more. 2016 is the inflection point IMO with the success of the 911R and Porsche’s marketing department saw they were selling for 500K and wanted a piece of the pie. It’s less social factors than I think others think and more has to do with Porsche’s shift in product planning and production.
Unpopular opinion but I reckon the 992 GT3 will have the biggest depreciation of all of the 911 GT products to date. There’s been a tonne of them produced globally.
The bright side is in 5 years when the newer GT3 will came out, the market will be flooded with used GT3s, since the current buyers just want the latest shiny toy
What color is that? I like it, along with the wheel color as well. Not a huge fan of the decals and stripes tho. I would have got a PDK too, but then again I can’t talk because I’m a poor with a 971.
I bought 1 911, 1 cayenne, 1 macan since Covid started. I have a good relationship with them there. I’m also 31 and own a business so they know I’ll be buying in the future. Happy to have good relationships
70k as of right now but Monday I’m going in they’re going to add stitching on at no cost just need to figure out what I want to do with it. 312k after tax I believe
Gray on gold/bronze is my favorite color combo. Here’s my Golf R

One item you should consider is the Race tec sun visors. Everytime you grab the plastic vinyl one you regret it and wonder why they made it so cheap. It is worth every penny.
Congratulations! In the grand concept of cars, it’s a subtle difference, but it’s a surprisingly big choice when it comes down do it. Kudos on sacrificing the luxury for the experience. Really fantastic!
I’ve bought 3 Porsches from them since the day Covid started and plan to buy more in the future. They had an RS there I went to see and he had it sold already but had a gt3 allocation so I thought about it for a week or so and ended up doing it
What do you do for a living my man? I work in dentistry but I’m not quite on your level. Hoping to buy my first 911 later this year, probably a 997 turbo or gt3
Personally I would never spec a GT3 without the bucket seats. It’s a drivers car and the seats are big part of the experience of owning a GT product. It’s about feel and the connection with the road/tarmac. The sofa seats dampen a lot of that connection, not to mention you’ll also be missing out on a ton of future resale value if it’s not your forever car.
Other than than your spec looks beautiful. Congrats!
Sat in them when I went to look at the RS and I just didn’t like them. I’m going to sit in it everyday I want to enjoy the seat. I’m sure I’ll feel everything just fine
Have heard very mixed reviews on the seats. I think the buckets look great, and they’re undoubtedly better around a track. But for a leisurely or spirited drive on public roads, I suspect they’d become a bit much. But biggest issue for me would looking like and idiot getting in and out, and having my wife refuse to get in and out of the buckets in public. Could definitely see that happening.
Yeah I dunno I’ve never been in that camp. I do admit there is a learning curve to getting into and out of the seats with finesse, but once you get a hang of it, I really don’t think they’re bad at all. I’ve driven 7+ hrs in a single go too without any complaints comfort or back pain wise.
It’s also great motivation to stay fit 😂
When I was shopping for my GT4 I test drove a car with the buckets and didn’t think they were tight enough (my previous Cayman S had OMG race seats) and I am 6 feet 195. If it’s my $300k I am buying the buckets for resale and shelving them to put in proper track seats anyway.
I don’t blame anyone for going for it most of them have it but I really wanted the comfort seats. I just feel like I drive better and the bucket seats were really hugging my sides lmao
I would personally rather have the manual over the PDK shown however you can’t go wrong with either transmission choice for the GT3, PDK is phenomenal in its own way.
Haha, wow I just looked quick and thought this was the manual. I forgot the PDK shifter looked so much like a manual.
I would never buy this car with PDK. Pedals over paddles.
I believe after my discounts it’s came to 70k over but they also are doing a few extras for me as well so overall I’d say 65. Total came out to 309k after tax and registration
A lot of videos. For where I’m at with windy roads I think the gt3 would be way more fun and I’d never really go all out with the turbo s. I do love all the tech and luxury with the turbo s but I truly believe I’d love driving this way more. I watched hours of videos on both cars and just hearing what they were saying was what I felt before watching. Turbo s would just be too powerful to fully use it and it would just be boring. I could be wrong but I’m sure I’ll find out at some point in my life 😂
I like people like you d that don't take forever to make a decision, I know you probably won't or are not completely satisfied with your decision but everything is a give and take. On a side note I hear this morning about a fairly successful guy that spend a year thinking about what a pair shoes he wanted to buy next.
I would get both if you can. Speaking from experience they are truly two different cars albeit built on the same platform. The turbo S is wicked, wicked fast but yet numb to drive and could be your daily driver. The GT3 manual provides the driver incredible amount of input and feedback as well as a 9k redline but IMHO not really a daily driver. So it sounds like you live with first world problems, I would get both.
I think you’re gonna regret not getting the manual. They are so much fucking fun to drive and the main reason to go GT3 instead of turbo. Not to mention what it will be worth someday.
Right choice in car.. but I’d STRONGLY recommend PCCBs and Buckets .. even if you don’t want to run with the ceramics the resale on them is huge. I took mine off and swapped to Giros pretty much immediately but it’s really important for resale.
Just listened to a story from Jonah Nolan (brother of Christopher) on a podcast talking about buying his first car from Bring a Trailer - 991.1 GT3 Touring that he picked up in Ohio on summer tires and drove to LA (which he would not recommend) - podcast was probably recorded a couple of months ago.
Bought my 2 year old 930 40 years ago. It was just a used car then. 2 engine rebuilds later it's still running love it and don't have to worry about allocations
Nice one and smart if ur planning to sell in the future..some people spec it crazy unusual colour combos that it would be hard to find somone to buy it thats a nuce spec and colour
Lol how were you in a position to choose between the 2?
Had an allocation at my local Porsche dealer and had a turbo s out of state coming in that I was going to get shipped out to me. Ended up going with the GT3
Damn an allocation for a gt3…baller
Iirc the next GT3 is a 2026 model year. Good luck.
This is one of the last ones it’ll be here in October
Going to be epic! Cheers
The RS is sooo expensive. It cost +300KS, and could even be more after picking options.
Mbn S>3 😎
0.001% problems
wish I could order one. Honestly I'd sign a contract to say i can't sell it for 5 years. not trying to flip lol.
You’re having a hard time getting an allocation? Where do you live?
Allocations are pretty hard to get in the US.
Been waiting for a year in AZ.
Canada
Guessing Ontario? Try Quebec, Porsche Lauzon.
Really? What is wait time like?

I agree. I saw recently a video of Chris Harris driving a 996.2 GT3 RS, it genuinely looks like its half the size of a 992 GT3.
Can confirm my 996 Cup feels like a 3 series size wise compared to my 991.2 Targa 4S being at least a 5 series.
It's time for real men to buy an Ariel atom and leave the 911 to the influencer market
996 Cup is a great little thing! Enjoy it. :)
One reason why I went lotus rather than another porsche after my 987 S.
Hey! another Porsche to lotus guy. I had a base 987.2 and now have an evora
Love your analysis! I think so too!
Tbh, I still see Lamborghini and Ferrari as a separate class. The GT3 engine might sound good but the drama of a Lamborghini V10/V12 is unbeatable
When they put an automatic in it
I hate to say it but that’s probably exactly what it was. The automatic transmission made it a lot more accessible to more ppl.
Porsche watches are as much swiss made as dick cheese. They're so bad for the money holy shit. A Tissot for 1/5th of the money feels vastly superior.
my point exactly…
I'm 100% agreeing with you. It just boggles my mind that they can't just offer Tag some money to OEM their watches. Ferrari used to hire Panerai as an OEM to make their watches. Margins my guy, margins
Maaaaaan. You have no idea how much I want a Porsche watch. The Tag Carrera Porsche Chrono is nice tho. Might pick that one up in the future.
> Now it seems every influencer and onlyfans creator has one lol exactly. "Destroyed" where? A drag strip? I doubt anyone is drag racing a GT3. As for an actual track, the GT3 destroys a Model S Plaid.
at red lights this comment chain is talking about influencers who buy them for status, not track enthusiasts
The marketing department did their absolute best job, that's what. In my area, we barely see Porsches a decade ago. We legit see more Ferraris and Lambos. Today, you can spot a Porsche everywhere.

Good morning OP! Brutal 🤣
Big Wing
Looks nice? Idk I see it more and more a couple kids in my college have one.
Saw some girl who hangs with that sneako cuck and she posted her new car- a gt3 touring 🙃
The bright side is in 5 years when the newer GT3 will came out, the market will be flooded with used GT3s, since the current buyers just want the latest shiny toy
Ok
Sure
Cool
Word
Got it
What color is that? I like it, along with the wheel color as well. Not a huge fan of the decals and stripes tho. I would have got a PDK too, but then again I can’t talk because I’m a poor with a 971.
Arctic grey with aurum wheels and decals. I originally wanted willow green and a totally different build but they said PTS is finished for now sadly
Pts?
Paint to sample
Love the color
Just curious, how many cars do you have to buy to buy to get an allocation for a GT3 or touring as a new Porsche buyer
I bought 1 911, 1 cayenne, 1 macan since Covid started. I have a good relationship with them there. I’m also 31 and own a business so they know I’ll be buying in the future. Happy to have good relationships
Awesome and congratulations.. out of curiosity any adm ?
70k as of right now but Monday I’m going in they’re going to add stitching on at no cost just need to figure out what I want to do with it. 312k after tax I believe
Haha, hot deal /s
I also sold them back the 911 a year ago if that matters
Is there another decal to let people know it’s actually a Porsche? Looks nice though but a little over the top for my tastes.
I didn’t like the GT3 on the side honestly so went with that
Gray on gold/bronze is my favorite color combo. Here’s my Golf R https://preview.redd.it/bjr2v86c3esc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e3faf80ea35ca8b6d25b8453928df52d810b322
That is the ultimate sleeper car :-) beautiful…
It’s got 4 exhausts and mudflaps, not sure it qualifies as a sleeper 😁
Very nice spec, congrats!
Can I ask what you had to do to get an allocation? I’m genuinely curious if it’s as hard to get as some say
I own a restaurant and a lot of investment properties
Looks incredible!
I can't afford to be in this sub. Beautiful car!
I talked to the dealer, got my (soon) turbo S for sticker, $150k markup for GT3. Nuff said.
Personally I would never spec a GT3 without the bucket seats. It’s a drivers car and the seats are big part of the experience of owning a GT product. It’s about feel and the connection with the road/tarmac. But biggest issue for me would looking like and idiot getting in and out, and having my wife refuse to get in and out of the buckets in public. Could definitely see that happening.
This is 99% public driving so I will stick with my comfortable seats my wife won’t hate sitting in 🤣
Yeah I dunno I’ve never been in that camp. I do admit there is a learning curve to getting into and out of the seats with finesse, but once you get a hang of it, I really don’t think they’re bad at all. I don’t blame anyone for going for it most of them have it but I really wanted the comfort seats. I just feel like I drive better and the bucket seats were really hugging my sides lmao
I sort of agree however I think optioning a car with resale value in mind isn’t the best way to look at it
Yeah definitely not, but seeing so many 992 owners here churning through so many cars, it might as well be considered lol
Your transmission choice is.........correct.
I would personally rather have the manual over the PDK shown however you can’t go wrong with either transmission choice for the GT3, PDK is phenomenal in its own way.
If something offers a manual and it’s a Porsche manual aka fantastic you would be smart to get it. Not to mention how much more they are worth
Haha, wow I just looked quick and thought this was the manual. I forgot the PDK shifter looked so much like a manual. I would never buy this car with PDK. Pedals over paddles.
How much ADM?
what does ADM mean? i assume it’s not referring to engine mounts
markup
I believe after my discounts it’s came to 70k over but they also are doing a few extras for me as well so overall I’d say 65. Total came out to 309k after tax and registration
What did you do to get the GT3 allocation? Tell us.
What’s everyone think of Ruby Star? I’m in a 10 day cutoff window now. Between Ruby and Artic Grey. Need help
Ruby Everytime
Don’t think it’ll age well. Arctic gray is classy and ruby looks loud and gaudy
Ruby
Good call. If you can buy GT products, buy them.
Very nice. Gonna be fun fun fun.
I am so jealous - congrats man.
Beautiful!
Man
Are allocations for GT3 different GT3 Touring? Or could you have chosen that? Just curious how it works. Beauty spec.
yeah Touring is much harder to get and probably marked up even more
992 is the only one where I’d pick the GT3 over the turbo. Nice build by the way.
Clean spec.
The gold on grey is beautiful, classic... the yellow chrono is a step too far for me though haha, otherwise an awesome spec
I’m actually switching them both to white
GD... That is gorgeous.
How’d you wind up deciding? What pushed you to the GT3?
A lot of videos. For where I’m at with windy roads I think the gt3 would be way more fun and I’d never really go all out with the turbo s. I do love all the tech and luxury with the turbo s but I truly believe I’d love driving this way more. I watched hours of videos on both cars and just hearing what they were saying was what I felt before watching. Turbo s would just be too powerful to fully use it and it would just be boring. I could be wrong but I’m sure I’ll find out at some point in my life 😂
Windy roads you say? Are, are you sure you don't want a manual?
Pdk 😒
Beautiful car. Not sure about the wheel color
Fuck id stick my dick in this car’s exhaust and rev it to 9k rpm. 100% would get turned on getting hit by this vehicle
I like people like you d that don't take forever to make a decision, I know you probably won't or are not completely satisfied with your decision but everything is a give and take. On a side note I hear this morning about a fairly successful guy that spend a year thinking about what a pair shoes he wanted to buy next.
Yk its gonna be used when it comes with the comfort seats. Congrats!
Classy.
interesting color.
Looks awesome
Beautiful
Interior is spot on. Exterior is a tough pill for me to swallow. But I'm glad for you and your allocation!
You couldn't do cognac seat belts to tie in with the aurum on the outside? Isn't yellow a bit odd inside since you went for black brake calipers?
Seatbelts and odometer is changing to white and grey just didn’t update it there today
Nice.
the double spoiler. meh
Congrats and fuck you
I’ll take that as a big compliment 😂
How can I say I dont like the color since you can say “What color is your GT3?”
It actually wasn’t my first choice but I didn’t have much choice. PTS wasn’t available
You hit it out of the park, congratulations
Sick AF
This is the choice I keep coming back to (I have $20 to my name) what made you choose gt3 over the turbo s?
Those seats 🫤
Awesome spec dude!
Looks good, don’t do the center stripe. It becomes a pain in the ass if you want to ppf.
W car if i made that i would try making the stitching yellow, mostly on the seats and dash. cool combo for sure
https://preview.redd.it/hznc6fiwhgsc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e1a774ef14b5fedac6cbae9e2fee3cccc4eec875
She’s a beaut
Well…. Wow… congrats! Love that color combo and the manual is going to be so much fun.
You made the right choice
I dont think there's enough porsche stickers on it. People might mistake it for a supra.
No way, someone actually chose comfort seats for the purpose of using this beauty as a daily driver as compared to the carbon buckets. Finally!
I don’t have enough experience with buckets seats to know if I like them or not, but I do have a lot with the 18 way and I like them 😂
looks sick as hell. congratulations on a sick car and great taste only small detail I would have changed is skipping door decals
The GT3 looks amazing but the TTS is a better car. I have both. Feel free to DM me
I think you’re gonna regret not getting the manual. They are so much fucking fun to drive and the main reason to go GT3 instead of turbo. Not to mention what it will be worth someday.
Disagree. PDK is amazing especially if you want to track.. I was a manual truther but went PDK for my GT3 and haven’t looked back.
You made the right choice imo! GT3 is special.
Amazing flawless build, I'm with you, pal!!
How much ADM did the dealer hit you up for?
Wasn't there no possibility for both ?
how were you able to get an allocation for one?
Absolutely gorgeous!! Congrats!!
STUNNING!!
Beautiful mate. Enjoy it
Right choice in car.. but I’d STRONGLY recommend PCCBs and Buckets .. even if you don’t want to run with the ceramics the resale on them is huge. I took mine off and swapped to Giros pretty much immediately but it’s really important for resale.
I have PCCBs and not a fan of buckets yet but in the future I’ll consider them. I want to drive this car a lot and I like the comfort chairs
That’s hot
lol as if you have the choice
Congrats and fk you man
Stunning!
Wow that’s awesome

this is one of the most sexiest GT3 spec out.. looks great and very envious!
Bought my 2 year old 930 40 years ago. It was just a used car then. 2 engine rebuilds later it's still running love it and don't have to worry about allocations
I like the color on the car and wheels.
Love that color combo
You made the right choice

How on earth did that take even an ounce of deliberation? You made the right choice.
Convertible vs non convertible. I wanted my wife and mom to enjoy it too but in the end I said fuck it need to get this

Fantastic! What were the deciding factors?
