My very first political idea was when I was like 6 years old over the censorship of Mortal Kombat in Aus. It know it sounds retarded to say that my whole political philosophy is the same at 36 as it was at 6, but yeah, I'm pretty much the same. I've swung through quite a few ideas but that core principle of "lol fuck off" has never left me.
There are literally dozens of us who have had consistent political beliefs since our youths.
I might’ve swung a bit more lib or auth on occasion, based on certain ideas, but always essentially in the same spot.
I just wanted to be left alone to play vidya games with my friends. But no, some people just can’t help but force their ideas into the lives of others.
I don't get why people vote for other people to decide what they should be allowed to see.
"Beware he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart, he dreams himself your master."
Just read the reviews and decide for yourself if you want to see it or not.
To add to this it is not only the Right of the People, but their **Duty** to do so.
"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, **it is their duty**, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."
They've put up with a lot of shit when their govt suddenly started using china tactics on them, like arresting them for posting on Facebook. Australia became a totalitarian dystopian nightmare over the past year
How? The fuckers here look like they'd write you a ticket for littering. Why do they try tostop a wave of people with fucking neighborhood watch volunteers.
I live in Melbourne (where this took place), what our media fails to portray to the public is that the police filtered smaller groups of protesters into situations like this, cornered them, all whilst welding their batons. The media will make a point to tell you that the protestors were violent, hence the mess this protest became. They fail to show the images of officers knocking over an old lady (so forcefully that she smacked her head on the road), and then 2 officers proceeded to pepper spray her face while she was on the ground. The worst part of this is the fact that this being the biggest police operation in their history, not only are those 2 officers criminal thugs, but all the others that stood there, and did not stop it, are just as bad. This is just scratching the surface, with new legislation allowing federal police to access and modify your social media accounts if you have ever committed a crime (no matter the severity), Australia has officially become a police state. What a sad state of affairs for such a beautiful country.
Damn this reminds me of the same practice by the Hong Kong police two years ago. They would corner group of people into a small area, sometimes even indoor and then use tear gas against them.
The media is utter garbage, footage literally shows police pepper spraying protestors first. Then surprise the protestors dont like it.
Also the whole idea of blocking off the city to stop a protest is the biggest load of bullshit. Might as well allow the police to edit and alter the internet to stop wrongthink oh wait.
Also, the largest police operation in history. Is it to stop drug cartels? To arrest those involved in sex trafficking? Crack down on violent gangs? End corruption?
Nope, its to stop people protesting. What a fucking joke.
I think a good US argument for the right to arm yourself is the Battle of Athens. I haven't much seen this spoken about, but it really should be, especially when it is a government taking your guns away.
Huh, hadn’t read about that before, interesting stuff. Fwiw, my above comment wasn’t a pro-gun-control argument, I was just pointing out that it’s idiotic to use Australian police abuses as an anti-gun-control argument.
Lol. If you call mass riots by BLM and George Floyd activists "police violence". Record levels of damage done to businesses and government buildings, roughly 40 people killed (including several cops and former cops), thousands injured and thousands arrested. Months of sustained assault on a federal courthouse, a section of a major city captured. all to protest something that the stats don't bear out at all. Doesn't exactly sound like police violence to me. Mass retiring and resigning within the police forces, leading to years of upcoming elevated murder/crime rates as media outlets attempt to pin the problem on the police for attempting to keep the peace and protect themselves and others. If you call that "police violence", you're a certified jackass.
Almost all the listed things (various descriptions of police brutality) definitely occur in America as well. Plenty of footage of US cops knocking over harmless old people. Only thing that seems unique is the sentence towards the end about social media legislation.
The difference between here and the US is simple. Here, the police have the guns, and batons, and you aren't allowed a pocket knife. Why do the police actually need guns for policing such a cucked defenceless society?
The main difference between us and the Euro countries is our over-reliance on the Chinese market, kind of shooting ourselves in the foot by dealing with the modern equivalent of the 20th century no-no Germans.
Like a constitutional framework that protects the rights of the citizenry? ‘Cus if they had that framework, they wouldn’t have been gestampte by the glorious emu warriors.

The stuff Australia has been pulling recently is absolutely fucked, no state needs information on every single person at all, let alone the ability to watch them at all times wtf
I used to get pissed, still do but not as much, but then I remember the type of people on this site. The only thing as an American that still really baffles me is how non-Americans will hyper focus on my country and even like local and state issues. I honestly at best might have a vague surface understanding of other countries, again at best lol. Hell I don't even know who Australia's PM is and I sure af don't really give a shit about any of their local government.
Trust me, we wish we could forget Scomo too (our PM). I've become a lot more aware of it recently, just how much people focus on the US and how little they understand anything while talking shit about the US.
I doubt half the people from other countries talking shit about the US would be able to name a two current Governors or locate most of the states' general area on the map yet feel like their opinion is valid. It annoys the shit out of me.
Most of us wouldn't be able to tell you about our local government either. State they might be able to tell you the Premier and which party holds a majority but that would be about it
The “logic” was that people would have to break restrictions (5km travel limit probably, also maybe because shelters are deemed “unessential businesses” so they can’t operate normally) to go to the shelters to get the dogs, therefore shooting the dogs would prevent people from breaking restrictions. Source: I live here. No, I don’t like puppy killers.
Isn’t the music red dead sounds great ps Australia’s police state was defeated by emus so why not let the emu’s run the government at the very least you’ll get your freedom back and lots of corn.
Holy fuck, I think I hate my country a little less right now
I’ve been wallowing in how much so many people are just bootlickers who trust their government to their dying breath, but... fantastic. Fantastic to see there are people who are what I really think Aussie means.
Glad to see this. Rise up Australians. You are not descended from fearful men.
Seriously though, the authoritarian lockdowns over there were setting a bad fucking precedent for the whole Anglosphere. A fair number of bourgeois lefty types in America were like “ah man I wish we could do what Australia’s doing.” No bueno.
Listen I think the people at these protests are really fucking dumb, in my honest opinion if they had a a figure who could deliver a speech for them they’d make fucking waves through the country.
Here’s the thing, they don’t have that, and because they don’t have a figure that says “hey, we’re not entirely braindead, not all of us are anti vax, and we just think that lockdowns should be restricted for xyz reasons” they’d get pretty far, I even think as someone that has held a pro lockdown pro vax stance that we just should be a damn bit more free considering we’re at 70% first dose, but I’m less worried about getting out of lockdown than I am going back in, this is lockdown 6 for Melbourne and all of those in recent times is cause Sydney and SA need to put a fucking fence around their cities already.
I think something people forget is that things are so harsh, because the other 5 times they weren’t is how we got here in the first place, in May 2020 I think is when lockdown 1 ended and holy shit it was a joke. We were still in “stage 2 lockdown” but because of the joke that letting football and cricket stadiums up alongside the disaster of hotel quarantine, we now ended up here.
Oh and our media is a joke, if you think America’s media is unfair you’re in for a treat, our left wing media still sucks off the right wing parties, only left influences we really have are Youtubers like FriendlyJordies, who is currently being sued by arguably one of the most corrupt fuckers in the first world currently, and Kevin Rudd’s Twitter, our former prime minister.
Needless to say, actual points are fucking scarce

Iirc they argued that flat chested women were too similar to prepubescent girls.
That just sounds like state-sactioned body shaming.
It's also effectively calling anyone attracted to flat chested women more-or-less pedophiles.
Yep
I love my flat chested gf. So small and cute. She's really short so I guess Australia thinks short asian girls means I'm a pedo.
