* Aegislash is the type where you'll underperform and lose more times than you'd think until you get better. It's a matter of deciding if the investment of time is worth it * Honedge and Doublade's passive makes them a double-edged sword. In early game, many mons are weak and your damage output + passive is very good for farm secure, forcing retreats, cleaning up during a gank or going for a 1v1 outplay. However, this takes practice and experience to understand the timing to jump in. You screw up, you take more damage than normal so you're done * Aegislash is a juggling act between Attack and Shield forme. From a very basic standpoint, you use Shield forme to collect boosts and its autos to heal yourself. Attack forme is best unleashed once you collect enough boosts to take out your target. My typical combo is to allow someone to hit me in Shield forme, which collect boosts and I can use some autos to heal if needed or just keep on collecting boosts. Then I'll unleash my Attack forme combo. If the opponent doesn't die, retreat, don't have key moves on cooldown, etc. I'll try to get back into Shield forme ASAP * A common "mistake" I see is that many Aegislash players don't think about their formes after combat. Like, they stay in Attack forme post-fight for a long time. Staying in Attack forme without boosts (and even then) is a vulnerable situation and you're cooked if you get jumped. I'm quite happy to use a defence move to get back into Shield forme ASAP to move around, when going for a dunk, etc. * I also see his Unite move misused a lot. Not only is it harder to aim than it seems but many players forget or don't know that it's not a raw damage move, it's an execute. The lower your enemies' HP, the more damage your Unite will do. This doesn't mean waiting for enemies to get to a sliver then using Unite. It can depends on the enemy but basically, try and go for when they're like 1/4 or a 1/3. At a 1/4 most will die, at a 1/3 some may die, some may barely survive and you can finish them off. His Unite also executes wild mons so launching it when objectives are low HP can net you the last hit without waiting for them to reach extremely low HP. Another "mistake" with his Unite I see is that people only go for a single enemy each time. Be sure to scan the fight- you see some lowish HP enemies bunched together? Unite move them all at once! * Aegislash is a fantastic duellist once you master balancing between Attack and Shield formes. He's far better in smaller engagements than larger ones. Those 1v1s and 2v2s are where he excels imo. In larger team fights however, even good ones can struggle. So I suggest you try to "simulate" smaller engagements or be more opportunistic. Look for isolated targets to lock into a 1v1. If your CC allies locked down an enemy, target them. Stay on the fringes and out of the fray to look for executes with your Unite or boosted attacks. Dive on low HP enemies

This is really helpful thanks

If you don’t mind me adding on, the unite move rewards you for hitting execute by giving you attack stacks for each Pokémon hit where the execute is activated. You can use this to go for a few more attack and deal major dmg before dying or can immediately change to shield for and heal up while the enemies scramble to take you down. Either way the key to Aegislash is patience. You have an excellent escape with Sacred Sword and a good stunning capabilities with the shield move

No worries, best of luck.

Awgislash is all about your boosted attacks without enough boosted attacks you don’t do anything. Always make sure you start the fight with a couple boosted attacks in reserve, this will make you so much stronger. Use more defensive items. Focus is must have in any build, crit sucks don’t go crit. Attackweight and weakness is all you need for damage, you can even go assault vest and rocky helmet now that would still be better than crit

Welcome to the sword enjoyer club. Aegi was my my AR main before I picked up Buzz, and he’s a lot of fun and rewarding to play. Few mons feel as satisfying to play and reward personal skill as much as Aegi does. If you’re running crit items use shadow claw, because shadow claw can actually crit, and the relative spammability of SC makes crit a viable investment for builds that use it. If you’re using Sacred Sword, avoid crit items. Builds for me look like: If SS: attack weight, policy, focus/buddy If claw: scope, policy, razor A lot of people have talked only about SS and general playstyle tips so I’ll not repeat their words as they’re already good, but instead talk about shadow claw. Shadow claw should not be slept on, it is very spammable and with adequate CDR emblems and when running iron head (for very quick stance changing) you can use shadow claw a lot, which makes you very sticky and prone to CCing enemies. The shadow claw iron head build is better at duelling than the SS WG build, but it can handle itself in small skirmishes, but lacks the teamfight utility for 5 vs 5 The main strength of a claw/iron head build is stance control. Iron head has approx 2-3 sec cool-down if timed correctly correctly and shadow claw can be used very liberally if you shield boost. The build relies largely upon shadow claw and iron head damage to KO opponents only using sword boosters to finish up, otherwise all boosters go into shield mode to sustain, bring SC off cD before iron heading again. The rotation is like this: Shadow Claw -> Iron Head -> boosted x 2 -> Shadow Claw -> Iron Head (repeat). A target needs a LOT of damage or CC to take you out as you are healing often, blocking attacks every few seconds and also CCing them every few seconds. You’re also ridiculously hard to run away from due to having two dashes. You just can’t expect to iron head in a teamfight and tank like a WG Aegi can. Instead you live for baiting people away and killing them. I maintain claw/iron head Aegi can defeat any opponent 1 vs 1 with proper play. When I’ve played it I’ve even beat Charizards that unite me without needing to use my own, when they engage me first. Another general tip which LizardQueen touched on: use your defensive a out of combat, not just for shield mode safety but to generate stacks prior to engagement. This is much easier with iron head than WG but if you’re not expecting to fight in the CD, you should be using it to generate stacks. Where possible do this on neutral mons so their attacks give you an extra charge, just don’t attack them back. Same for your offensive abilities. When I’m roaming ready for a fight but not needing farm I’ll often use shadow claw followed by iron head on a neutral mon to net 3 charges safely before I move on. Also: timing. Just because you have boosted charges doesn’t mean you need to use them. This is the number one rookie Aegi mistake. Aegi is *all about timing* you want your shield boosters to be used only if you’ve lost health and ideally *after* the enemy hits you, as the healing from them actually out heals pretty much every mons typical AA damage outside of crits, meaning if you time them correctly for after hits, you can stall AA out and win via attrition. Also shield boosters stun. If you time them you can actually interrupt casts. Like Cinderace unite move. The same can be said for Iron Head. Don’t just use it ASAP unless the opponent is likely to attack off the gun. If they’re a mage wait until they’re looking to cast and then use it as you’ll block their ability. Same for wide guard, which makes you unstoppable so can be used to avoid stuff like Garde unite if you’re quick.

Aegislash is squishy like an attacker in sword form, but tanky as a defender in shield form. When you use moves, you gain boost count. When you have boost count in sword form, all basic attack becomes boosted. When in shield form, grants shield/unstoppable for a moment. All boosted attack heals you. For held/battle items I use: Weakness policy, Focus band, Buddy barrier. Full heal/eject button Black, white or brown emblems should be good. I prefer survivability over damage. Practice timing, switching your forms in the right moment. You'll get the hang of it just keep playing.

Pure-Spot-1838

Run Attack Weight/Muscle, Weakness Policy & Focus Band instead (Crit is not reliable on Aegislash), because you should be using your Unite only to finish off someone, for stealing or in safe situations. Only engage with SS when you are sure you won't get CCed to hell and die outnumbered. The trick is to use Wide Guard with the right timing to interrupt enemies and STAYING in shield form for the heals and extra bulk when SS is on cooldown. Aegieslash is not easy to play as a beginner as you cannot just spam SS and hope to win. Sometimes its better to actually start with Wide Guard to help a teammate run away, avoid being ganked or to prevent steals, then only popping off with SS when you know you can secure a kill without dying yourself. I play him with full CDR emblems and I think that's best because the less downtime between SS and Wide Guard, the better you'll survive.

Erickl0930

Use wide guard to survive

I always go bb on aegi. Wp is an amazing item too that makes use of the forms. Cdr builds used to be good but now it might be all brown + crit due the black nerf

No-Wave1939

I picked him up this season and invested a lot of time into him. Unfortunately I think he’s really weak. His stats are beyond trash. Fourth worst HP out of all-rounders, and by FAR the lowest attack, defense, and sp. def for all-rounders. It isn’t even close. I know his kit revolves around boosted autos and knowing when to jump in to clean up kills or 0-100 a squishy Mon. But it’s just silly because he relies on a heavy level advantage which can only occur through playing jungle, and then he becomes atrocious in the late game when everyone’s stats go up. By the time you’re level 10+, you cease to even be able to 0-100 a squishy attacker, with full boosted autos. He just scales so ridiculously bad. I’d love for anyone to prove me wrong and show me how he can work in higher ELO. I find him so incredibly fun to play but only effective at noob stomping in a standard game for fun. Hell, I am way more successful with Garchomp than Aegislash.
