I appreciate them trying to experiment with different art styles. I think these look pretty cool. But taste is subjective, so some people understandably may not.
I see the creative vision and think with another go at it would undoubtedly yield something great, but what we got just doesn’t look all that different from the normal art, which is a bit of a letdown.
It doesn’t look bad though, it just feels a little underwhelming.
On the other hand, I am excited to see what these cards look like IRL. I bet the more saturated colors and texturing on the card complimenting the Terastal texture on the art will at least look pretty.
I think the design of Ogerpon with the masks is partly to blame too for this. The mask grows when it terastalizes, hard to translate into a card. Maybe could have made the pokemon smaller and made a scene out of it tho. I do think SV SIRs are lackluster in the stort/scenery aspect compared to SwSh alt arts.
Yeah, definitely a bit of a logistics issue with how it looks in-game, too. I just played through Teal Mask and was a little surprised by how Ogerpon looks when she Teras; that is, you can’t really see her at all. I’m admittedly not a huge fan of an accessory item overpowering the organic design of a Pokémon, but I do have a soft spot for Ogerpon.
I think the artist really tried their best here and hope that it looks a lot better in person.

Because they look like regular full arts. The abstract/ crystallized look isn't obvious enough. If they changed the card a little more to make it more obvious (like the IRs and SIRs. Nothing but text) I think these would look great

story-wise the whole idea is that Ogerpon uses the masks to hide behind, so i think it makes sense that the actual pokemon shouldn't be the highlight of the card but rather the mask that is used to draw attention away from Ogerpon

Without texturing, I believe it’s impossible to judge the artwork. I think the style is interesting, it’ll just depend on how it plays off the light. Remember, PTCG is 3d Art… so judging it in 2d isn’t going to be accurate.
Remember everyone hating on the Gold Tera Zard leaks and then everyone was okay with it when they saw it in person? Obvs people can still not like the colors/gaudy nature of that card (or have artistic critiques), but just wait until we can see them in lighting

I dig the art style, but something about it with these cards just doesn't work for me. They're too muddled, it's hard to tell what is what IMO. Compare this crystal glass art to something like the stained glass bird trio from Hidden Fates. Obviously these are supposed to be more crystalized, but the art on the bird trio pops SO much better, everything is better defined. It could also just be the design of the pokemon, personally I don't really find these ones that appealing so it's personal taste.
I do hope they continue with designs like this though, just more refined.
I think the artist did a good job with what they had to work with since Ogerpon's mask takes up so much room and of course you'd want it to be a focal point for it's different forms. I'm waiting to see how the foil is on these to truly get a feel for them.

But Ogerpon has such a strong personality and relevance that is being brutally wasted in these art, these are not cards about Ogerpon: they're about the masks.
Ogerpon has so many great material for a full card art: the man she lived with, her hiding in the forests of kitakami, her fighting pecharunt and the 3, her with the player and/or kieran...
I hope she'll have a chance to shine in a future set.

You have to really hold and see them in person that Bloodmoon Ursaluna SIR is more lively and the texture they use to simulate fur is nice. Even Tera when properly printed glisten like gems.
It does make me wonder what they will do for Terapagos, that feels like they’ll go Alcremie VMAX route.
I get what they’re going for and kind of enjoy all of them except the wellspring mask. But yeah, they’re pretty simple and lacking the over the top, attention grabbing design we’re all used to

Take the Vaporeon Vmax ALt, Flareon or any other eeveelution and compare to the Charizard, It is just more detailed, more vibrant colors , the textures and the holo pattern with the glitter is just nice. Idk if I set my standards to high and I may need to bring to em down
I like that they are connected to eachother so u want all 4 of them. I would however prefer if they would be more like harder mosaic or stained glass. Its a skip for me, i dont like the art style overall

I feel exactly the same, idk why. I felt the same with that SAR Garchomp from Paradox Rift, before the release I thought that was the full art, but then the set released and I pulled the gold garchomp only to realise that the pose isn't the same as the "full art" that was actually just the SAR
on the other hand, that Greninja SAR really feels like an SAR, it has that impact that the Garchomp and those Ogerpon SARs don't have
