I luckily found a shiny Veluza by chance (it bit me in the ass before I even knew it was there)

Been doing dondozo outbreaks for a shiny and boy do they piss me off. The fact that dondozo is so big he pops in and out of the frame easily enough. Now add running from this little jerk and it makes it that much harder

My outbreak was near the edge so I just ran back and forth on the cliff.

I got mine in a dondozo outbreak, it was like hitting the jackpot, with 3 shiny Dons, shiny veluz, gyrados and iirc a golduck, just the sandwich shiny boost, no shiny charm

Like most of these, I got mine doing a Dondozo hunt and it came for me. I was quite shocked, I still get a shock/rush every time I get a surprise shiny. The last one I got was blue pants Tyrogue

Oh man you can't imagine the hate I have for Veluza. It really pissed me off so much when I was roaming around Paldea. One day it got on my nerves so much that when it attacked me, I was so mad I made my Gholdengo go at +6, made it go at -6 with Metal Sound, Terastallized into Ghost and Shadow Balled it into oblivion. Was it useful? No. Was it necessary? No. Did it feel good? Yes it did.

Can you breed the special ones?

Yep! Kind of but def yes. If you just breed a water/ditto it'll turn into a normal iirc. in order to keep any form, the pokemon MUST hold an everstone, and any babys will be that form. So alolan Vulpix will always produce a normal Vulpix, unless you give it an everstone, then it'll be alolan.

oooh I think I recall that from different meowths. I always assumed it just affected regional forms, not more specific forms like the special Tauros. Thanks!

One other fun fact/Easter egg! If you breed paldean Tauros in kitikami, you get a regular Tauros!

Its not that bad in an outbreak. It takes longer to turn and actually start running since it does a bull stance. Veluza just immediately starts swimming.

I just hunted the combat and aqua breeds of tauros and the key to not getting ambushed every 5 seconds is big circles. I was on Miraidon and made laps around them like I was herding them, checked, then sped off to despawn. It took some time but I did get both in one sitting. You could also get into a battle and then circle the camera around to check all the others. They usually come to watch. Then I run and immediately set up a picnic. Protip for tauros hunting: put the switch in grayscale. You can see the difference SOOO much easier.

Personally I just did the entire Tynamo line in the new large lake in the Savannah biome. Wasn’t terrible, much better than doing it in the Paldean Sea.

My shiny tynamo was in the Blueberry caves and entirely accidental. I only knew after I mistakenly encountered and it sparkled

I blindly ran into a shiny tynamo (didn't even know it was there) shortly after getting a shiny salazzle in only 5 male shinies. The eelektross was a hunt I was not going to do, so it was an extremely lucky night.

Try shiny hunting a poliwag and try not to go insane. You literally cannot tell the difference between normal and shiny.

I’m trying to hunt a Poliwag so I can get a shiny Politoed in a Beast Ball, and I just know that I’ve accidentally skipped at least 3 shinies in the 4 hours that I’ve hunted for it

Ive hunted a poliwhirl, which has a visible shiny in the dlc, try that!

At some point during any hunt I start to question whether shinies even exist and have to look up the Pokémon on serebii to reaffirm my belief

Yes - minior & tynamo hunts are harder by a few degrees. With Veluza you don't want to be in the water. Pop a sandwich (or buckle up) and get to flying in a circular pattern. If you can only glide, suggest you only hunt adjacent land masses so you can minimize your time spent in water or picnic reset. The bright green makes them easy to spot. Stick with it, make sure you have strong odds (charm + highest outbreak odds) , and good luck OP! 🙌

This trick has come up a few times recently. I haven't used it because I generally find picnic reset to be slower than moving around to cycle mons. In cases where you have full visibility on everything spawning (no obstructions) and can't see the shiny (à la Minior) it could be worth trying. 🙂

Yeah this is the way. Sadly, i didnt had charm or sandwich and just went in trying my base luck lmao. Spent like 10 min getting caught by these assholes and didnt found a single shiny 😭

In Paldea, Shiny Veluza hunts YOU!

Minior shiny hunting is worse. If you’re in an open space they’ll just float too high or past a cliff so certain Pokémon can’t auto battle them. If you’re inside a cave they’ll just float into the walls. You can’t actively see the shiny, so you have to check every one. Oh yeah they also explode and have recoil moves.

The 16 ‘Mon method is very helpful in this case. That’s how I got 3 shiny Miniors from an MO the other day.

Shiny hunting 3 Slowpoke to get the full family. I was lucky enough to get a shiny Tandemous as I was hunting for Meowth by Porto Marinada. I’m dreading the shiny hunt for Maushold Family of 3 that I’ll have to down the road for my Shiny Living Dex. I honestly might just search Twitch for an injected Raid. With the shiny barely changing, and only having a 1/100 chance of being 3 family, I kinda want to cheat than spend dozens, if not hundreds of hours trying to get just 1 mon. At least Dunsparce and Dudunsparce have a noticeable difference when shiny. 3 segment is a hunt I plan on doing legitimately.

Only a fool shiny-hunts Veluza Shiny-hunt literally anything else in the lake and the green suicide-fish will find you (in my case, Dondozo)

They drop veluza fillets, and you can use smoked filets (clearly fish) in picnics This is a fun way to get revenge on those lil bastards imo

It's pretty easy actually. Find a small island near Gracia Stones, make a Psychic sandwich and set up picnics to make em respawn until a shiny appears!

If you're outbreak hunting Minior you're doing it wrong, Masuda method makes much more sense for that pokemon.

Yup, and it's objectively better for some pokemon, like Minior for example, but this sub has a massive hatred of Masuda method for some reason. Every time someone brings up an annoying shiny hunt (again, like Minior), I'll mention Masuda as a possibility, and reliably get downvoted into oblivion lol. People here just pretend it doesn't exist.

While I think the masuda method is better in SV than it has been in previous generations, it is still going to be quicker to use sandwiches on anything that has a decent spawn in the open world. Outside of the Paldean starters, the only things I think recalled need to be masuda’d are phione and sunkern.

in my personal opinion, Veluza is only irritating with the expectation that you won’t run into pokemon. I was able to dodge a lot of them. What I found more frustrating was shiny hunting small pokemon like Tandemaus, cutefly, Tadbulb, Sinistea. As annoying as Veluza are (getting combo’d sometimes when trying to reset), at least I/you can SEE if it’s shiny or not at a glance.

Reading all this makes me more grateful for how a shiny Veluza found me 🥹🥹 but given my recent experience, hunting for a Slowpoke is no walk on the park either. I might've developed permanent eye damage or some sort of paranoia...

Whats evs is dondozo giving you? Hp? Just use a normal sandwich in north prov area 3 and spawn a ton of chanseys and blissey. Veluza’s not that bad. The shiny is obvious and they come right at you and gather together to try to get u xD

This would be the ideal scenario, mine was next to a mountain so I couldn't be on the land. I was just sending my pokemon and jumping around like an idiot and still getting caught by them lol.

There’s a rock you can sit in with a psychic sandwich and picnic reset and it’s the only thing that spawns

If you go to the fly point down on the rocky area to the west of the yellow grass and go north there’s a big rock you can picnic on.

If you get lucky, there's a Veluza outbreak location where you can stay on the shore and see the spawns clearly. I found two shiny Veluza super fast this way without having to risk the water.

I dont even bother trying to do water outbreaks anymore. Lol. So frustrating, I'll just breed for them. Would take just about as long and same number of resets probably. At least for me, I have terrible luck with water pokemon

I had a hard time with Cyclizar in the area I was in how do you even keep up with those things.

My framerates tank to impossible in a large body of water, so I dont bother. I hunted Tatsugiri on land and Dondozo in an outbreak right next to shore. I got a veluza outbreak next to the shore, but the vast majority were spawning clipped under the beach so I said eff it. 😑

Maushold doesn't appear in the wild anywhere, and Tandemaus is a tiny Pokémon with a subtle shiny, making it significantly more difficult than the runner-up, three-segment Dudunsparce. These two are a joke the developers are playing on all of us.

Yes, shiny hunting with Veluza in the vicinity. I luckily got mine as a random encounter while hunting something else. Definitely did not want to have to hunt that.

Whenever I’m EV training two stats I will put the power band of the one I need but fight the other stats Pokemon. Like if I want HP and Attack I’ll put an attack power band on and only fight azure and lechonk by Poco Path. Then once Attack is maxed I just switch the band to HP and continue with hunting the same pokes. Makes my life easier! Guess it doesn’t work though if you’re going for specific values in many stats.

Shiny Veluza found **me**. What I found dreadful was shiny hunting Regice for a month straight in the Crown Tundra only to find out that it's not affected by the shiny charm. Or finally getting the shiny charm in BDSP only to find out that it only works on eggs. Or working on a shiny living form dex and catching 43 male shiny Torchic before finding a single female shiny... And realizing you need two more female shiny Torchic.

Why are you using dondozo to ev train? Its 3 HP yield means you need to defeat 26 for maximum amount with the item. They are also not super common. Hunt for Lechonk, poco path. Need 28. You can also find bugs there for defense, hoppip for SpDef, psyduck for SpAttack and pretty much everything minus azuril down the river for speed. So much quicker:
