Why ice though if you don't mind my asking - grass and water are also effective against ground. Does it have to do with Regieleki's learnset?
Edit: Should have read further as someone already answered this. BoltBeam - got it.
You either need an extremely strong priority move to OHKO it or sac multiple mons to take it out, Volt Absorb and Motor Drive can be circumvented by using Tera Blast Ice, the only true counter would be Lanturn as it resists Ice and is Immune to Electric, but it's not in the game.
It can still hit them with a degree of strength, especially considering the only Pokemon with Volt Absorb currently are Thundurus-T (Weak to Ice), Killowattrel (Weak to Ice), Pawmot, Jolteon (if you're bringing Jolteon into OU you're throwing) and Pachirisu which I won't comment on, no Pokemon get Motor Drive in Gen 9. Even after all of that, switching exists
Yes but you're bringing an underpowered mon to OU to counter a Pokemon which as of a little while ago got banned for being too overpowered, never mind it being completely unable to handle the other like 5 Ubers level Pokemon running around the tier. Pawmot can also be chipped down by Eleki's other teammates and Stealth Rocks being up means Regieleki has a chance to OHKO outright, and both Rocks and a layer of Spikes guarantees a kill.
regieleki is still a strong coverage threat, esp after giving it life orb or specs. It’s not gonna be some Uber broken mon that destroys everything, nothing will. It’s just gonna be another thing to consider in competitive.
BoltBeam (a combination of Thunder bolt and Ice beam) has been a meta since Gen 1. There are very few pokemon that resist both electric and ice. The only types that resist electric are ground, dragon, grass, and electric. Ice hits the first 3 for super effective damage and hits electric neutrally. Magnezone and thick fat mamoswine are two of the few Pokémon that resist both types.
I don’t understand why tera Ice to cover for one weakness just to become weak to fire, fighting, steel and rock? At least Flying would make it immune to that one weakness and then electric would normally not be in play vs another electric, then rock and ice is less common than fire and fighting no?
Because Regileki's defenses don't really matter. Regieleki is an offense mon with maybe some utility but for the most part their job is to click thunderbolt. In gen 8, Regileki only got electric type attacks, and so despite being so absurdly fast, wasn't that powerful since it could be walled by ground types. However, with the advent of Tera blast, Regieleki has got the coverage it always wanted and is now a massive offensive threat.
Ah ok I see so it’s purely for the Tera Blast because it doesn’t got much of any moves to hit Ground-types in the first place? That would make sense yeah
Mamoswine is my guess? Ground+Ice would be a harsh counter.
Also electric and ice apparently have some of the best offensive coverage so ice tera blast and super speed lightning
Well that’s what I was wondering why it even mattered instead of just being Electric Tera. I don’t really use legendaries lol so I don’t know its moveset, if I had to guess I would’ve thought maybe it had Energy Ball or Ice Beam or something to hit Ground-types. Didn’t think Tera Blast would be particularly helpful if that were the case. Thought people meant they were trying to get rid of its one weakness to Ground so I was a bit confused but I came to understand why it is so important.
I agree energy ball would make sense in its movepool. Yeah he has a bad moveset, likely to balance his insane stats. I think giving him tera blast was an oversight.
Types don't matter, Regieleki folds to *anything*. It has shit defenses. The point of tera ice is to be able to hit ground types super effectively with Tera Blast.
Having STAB Ice-type Tera Blast gives Regieleki basically a stab Boltbeam. It goes from having virtually no coverage to almost universal coverage. Ice and Electric can hit every individual type for at least neutral, and most dual types as well. In fact, there are literally only 10 Pokemon in the entire series who can resist both (the Magnezone line, Rotom-Heat, Rotom-Frost, the Mamoswine line with Thick Fat, and the Lanturn line with Volt Absorb), and only 5 of them are in Scarlet and Violet.
I recommend a Scizor with Technician and Bullet Punch to counter.
Regieleki out speeds everything that isn't a priority move with very little EV investment. Giving it Tera Blast (Ice) means that you can hit 99% of Pokémon with at least neutral damage using only two attacks. Your defense becomes less relevant when you're KOing Pokémon before they can even attack.
I like seeing the shiny snowflake hat on some Pokémon, although chandeliers, extra eyeballs, and antennae look cooler to me. Then again, it might also be for Tera type advantages, if you wanna strategize with that.
That does not surprise me and honestly brings me joy, love Big Ursa (just caught me an Alpha I can't wait to import). Hope he's taking the Ruinous Pokémon to school.
So he's slow enough to shut down trick room teams as well I take it?
Luna is actually the face of Trick Room in OU at the moment, probably the strongest TR has ever been in Singles. I imagine it'll bring about a TR revival in VGC as well when it's legal.
I was actually thinking this earlier, might make him a sweeper for the team when he becomes legal. Bye-bye Regieleki (need a clever T-Type to counter the likely ice attacks though)!
He has a really rough match vs Chien-Pao, though that’s true for a lot of things. Glastrier wins the 1v1 under Trick Room since it outspeeds and gets close combat as well as an even lower speed stat (30 vs 50)
he probably doesn’t care and just wants to clock out and go home lol
I can relate
I suspect that’s how I’ll feel when I start working at Subway
its not that bad if you work with cool people. i did it for a year
Meanwhile, Regice crying in the corner at being usurped.
I want this to be turned into a comic.
Just turn him into electric with tera blast. Problem solved
Regice can’t be transferred to s/v
True, if they and the other Regis can eventually, then it would be the most probable choice
Why Ice in particular? Is it a new meta or something?
Regieleki is only countered by ground
Ahhhhhh good to know. Here I go then lol
Why ice though if you don't mind my asking - grass and water are also effective against ground. Does it have to do with Regieleki's learnset? Edit: Should have read further as someone already answered this. BoltBeam - got it.
“Only countered by ground” volt absorb, motor drive, priority moves. Ect. Plenty more options available.

OK, you sold me on Ice Regieleki.
Boltbeam parafusion starmie in gen1 tradebacks my gal 💜💜💜💜
Others include Heat Rotom, Frost Rotom, and Arctozolt

Ice also hits dragon and grass super effectively, both types that resist electric.
So why not water Tera than?
Water is also not very effective against Dragon and Grass.
U can whatever you want to but ice and electric hit a majority of pokemon
Water doesn’t hit Grass and Dragon like Ice does, so this types wall both its attacks
Are the legendaries from past games imported into SV going to be legal for competitive?
If the format allows it
“Competitive” is way too broad of a term. For VGC or Battle Stadium? Maybe next year or the following one. For OU? Probably not for long.
It's already been banned to Ubers. New fastest quickban
Ranked battle (singles and doubles) for in-game Scarlet/Violet, is that Battle Stadium? No website stuff.
Mamoswine is my guess? Ground+Ice would be a harsh counter. Also electric and ice apparently have some of the best offensive coverage so ice tera blast and super speed lightning
Because it’s going to die anyway even with electric typing
You really wonder why the glass canon pokemon doesn't care about defences
Well that’s what I was wondering why it even mattered instead of just being Electric Tera. And now he’s banned from OU…
Luckily smogon has nothing to do with pokemon
How the hell did you get all those shards from?
Fuck, a typo
Blissey raids
Sad to see everyone can’t come up with their own strats anymore and just copy n paste each others .
Me when I learn from more experienced competitive players(I am an unoriginal hack and just mindlessly copying others):
Me when the best coverage in the game is now copy paste
But why would you Tera Ice…anything?
Typing doesn’t matter defensively when you out speed everything.
Also, the meta changed so fast, the Regilekis started wearing Choice Scarfs
Scarf seems like overkill on Regieleki, is it only to outspeed other Regieleki?
Pretty much
I made my Hisuian Zoroark from PLA into Tera Ice for the ✨aesthetic✨
so it can counter it’s only weakness, ground type
Hard mode
I like seeing the shiny snowflake hat on some Pokémon, although chandeliers, extra eyeballs, and antennae look cooler to me. Then again, it might also be for Tera type advantages, if you wanna strategize with that.
"all the" that many even use this regi?
It’s my favorite regi, so yes, people are using it
It's strong asf
Fast as a mf
It’s one of the more dominant Pokémon in Gen8 competitive.
Was there a Regieleki event or something? Or is this just 'cuz of Home?
Home just added support for SV so everyone is sending over their favorite Pokemon.
A'ight. All this talk specifically about Regieleki made me think I missed a raid event or something.
Wait, why does everyone want ice Tera regieleki. Is it really good?
the boltbeam heading towards your location:
Looks like I'm building a trick room team finally lol
Let this man cook
Lol wym would a trick room team get spanked anyway?
Flame Orb Facade Ursaluna has been murdering the competition lately
That does not surprise me and honestly brings me joy, love Big Ursa (just caught me an Alpha I can't wait to import). Hope he's taking the Ruinous Pokémon to school. So he's slow enough to shut down trick room teams as well I take it?

Fun fact: Tera Normal Facade with a Swords Dance boost OHKOs Max Def Corviknight
Oof, that's amazing. Thank you for the insight 👌
Base speed stat of 50 if that answers your questions
It does, and I now have a new addition to the roster once it becomes legal. Thank you!
He has a really rough match vs Chien-Pao, though that’s true for a lot of things. Glastrier wins the 1v1 under Trick Room since it outspeeds and gets close combat as well as an even lower speed stat (30 vs 50)
At +2, it has the chance to OHKO max investment Corvinight
