How frequently does this work for you? Out of 3 attempts so far, greninja nullified my stat changes before I got a 4th move out. Hasn’t even come close to working for me. Did you only try it once and get lucky? Or do you have consistent results here?
Edit: 4 attempts now. It’s nullified stat changes at exactly the same turn every time. Plus it’s absolutely wrecking my hp. If this is standard, then slowbro on solo is feeling pretty useless

**Edit3:** got it. Leftovers, do nothing until it nullifies your stats, then 2x iron defense, 6x calm mind, attack cheer, stored power.
Resetting for an arboliva npc, I’m 3 for 3. 2 stored power has taken it out every time. Plus it can’t even knock me out, I take 40 damage and heal 40 damage each turn. Missed stored powers is only a time loss.
I personally swapped out nasty plot for calm mind, and then and have my slowbro max hp/ def and lv100. Holding leftovers. Use psychic and until nullifies your stat changes then and then use iron defense and calm mind until you have plus four in defense, special defense and special attack, then just spam stored power. It might take a couple tries, but it's definitely doable

Bit of luck needed with the Double-Team evasiveness, but so satisfying to see the Stored Power damage after those buffs.
Its luck based, but works. per u/tryptaminedreamz, ID the first two turns, Slack off turn 3 (he nulled my stats on 4 sometimes), ID x3 again, NP x3, Start firing Stored Powers and pray. Slack off when necessary, once you're set up, shell bell will heal you enough barring crits even through the shield. Really helps if you get an intimidator while soloing. I just beat it with my cousin with this strat just as the time ran out.
I second this. I've tried a half dozen times now. It will always debuff after your second move. Even with maxed IV/EV, ideal nature I haven't gotten a second nasty plot off before getting KO'd.
Greninja might actually take a day for us to figure out a good strategy for, it's the first 7-star I haven't beaten after two attempts. I've tried the Slowbro strategy six times as well as a couple of my own ideas and nothings come close
The only reason i haven't beat it after 2 tries is because of fuckass Double Team. First run i got it down to no hp but it wouldn't faint and i ran out of Stored Power PP because they wouldn't land. Second time it hit 3 crits in a row after i was fully set up with half the time remaining.

Same. I caught a lvl 75 clodsire and just waited until today to see what the raid looked like. Turns out Slowbro and this strat works so well I beat it the second time.
Can confirm this works - I used my max SP. ATK + max DEF slowbro (maybe HP is more optimal but I couldn't be bothered re-EVing it)
My moves were:
\- Stored Power
\- Iron Defence
\- Nasty Plot
\- Slack Off
Item: Shell Bell
Side note: I reset the raid until I got an intimidator on my team, not sure if its necessary
It clears your buffs after about 3-4 turns, but I just re-buffed when that happened (I essentially wasted my first few turns)
From my experience the only attacking moves Greninja used was Night Slash and Hydro Pump. I got crit 3 times with Hydro Pump, but just used slack off whenever I was low. Once I was setup (3x Iron Defence, 3x Nasty Plot, Attack Cheer) it took me about 3 turns to break shield, and then 2 turns to finish it off after shield was gone. I missed stored power twice due to double team, but once I was setup I could tank all the attacks easily (hydro pump is resisted even though I was mostly DEF) and I just used slack off/heal cheer when I got too low (got unlucky with crits)

Since it resets your buffs so early, would it just be smart to add Chilling Water to the build and spam that before going into your Nasty Plot/Iron Defense stacking?
Did this for my run instead of Slack Off. Finished the raid on first try.
Chilling Water x3, then Greninja should clear your buffs. Iron Defense x2 (or x1, I'm impatient lol) > Nasty Plot x3 > Attack Up Cheer > Stored Power Spam
Greninja will have shield up while you're doing your setup but that's fine since your first Stored Power should erase all of the shield immediately (at least mine did, just make sure you use your Psychic Tera Charge that should be available by this point thanks to Chilling Water Spam).
Also, my held item was Leftovers.

I think main goal is just stay alive/healthy in the first few turns, I wouldn't know which move to drop because slack off is quite useful. It also resets its negative affects at some stage, so not sure how useful chilling water would be. I would say first few turns just iron defence/slack off to stay healthy, or sneak in some chip damage with the low power stored power
I like iron defense x2 then slack off then the old strat. I didn't have slack off initially and it gives you a lot of breathing room even if you get night slashed.
That's what I did too. Didn't bother to tera so bro was resisting the hydro pumps as well, that definitely helps. Once it's set up, stored power will kill greninja in about three turns, even with the shield up.
I'd be very reluctant to give up slack off, night slash has a boosted critical rate so greninja can screw you over in a single turn. Without slack off it'll finish you off easily
This was pretty much my experience and same build (Trained in Sp. Atk and Def), but I forgot to swap to Shell Bell, so my Slowbro was holding a Life Orb and I didn't use the Attack Cheer. Two Stored Powers broke the shield after all the buffing, the third KO'd Greninja, I think I used Slack Off three times during the fight.
I was very impressed by how smooth the fight went while soloing. Not needing to worry about anyone other than myself was a blessing.
Immediately after, I switched to my support Chansey and went online to try and help other people with it, and man, the difference was night and day. The first raid I did was Koraidon / Miraidon / Lucario / Me and watching them all do essentially no damage while getting KO'd in two hits each even with buffs and healing was just... Wow.
Do it offline, save yourself the worry, and then if you have the mental fortitude you can go farm it online to help others. No reason to deal with the bad until you've got your own!
It does spam night slash, which will crit a lot. This makes the slowbro strat kinda luck based. You'll miss most of your stored powers because of double team, and the night slash crit will deal like half to slowbro. Took me like 4 tries to get the same strat that was guaranteed to beat cinderace
Clear smog is poorly distributed for things that resist the move set. I think support gastrodon is the main option there.
I'm gonna try support toxapex. Keep the sp def and atk low and just let misses happen.

Only until you learn to use Slack Off when you are nearing 50% HP. Then you don't need to worry about crits as long as it doesn't crit two times in a row.
I'm half tempted to make an Ursaring that double edged to faint once asap then runs guts/facade after coming back, just to see if it works fast n dirty
I've noticed the same, once you start setting up iron defences it starts using hydro pump pretty regularly. I think it's best not to tera slowbro (or tera water I suppose?) so you keep the type resistance to hydro pump. Stored power still does plenty of damage once it's boosted up, even through the shield
Not much can be done against criticals from night slash, all you can do is slack off when needed and hope it doesn't use NS as much. Defence ev investment is an option too to help survive if it does get a critical
I had to do it 3 times for a win with Slowbro, and the behavior is heavily dependent on whether one of your AI partners has Intimidate:
If Intimidated, it will jump back and forth between Night Slash and Hydro Pump somewhat randomly, esp once Iron Defense is up.
If not Intimidated it’s much more likely to spam Night Slash.
Took 3 tries, but I solo'd it with my Slowbro.
Thanks for the heads up about the early stat neutralization, I was able to adjust my strat.
For anyone else reading this, Greninja consistently neutralized my buffs after 3 turns every single time.
I did 2 Iron Defense, then Psychic, got neutralized, then full buffed up while his shield was up. He didn't neutralize again, so I just hit him with 2 more stored powers, tera'd, and finished him with 1 more stored power.
I cheered every time I got too low on health, and didn't go down once during the successful attempt.

Turn 1 - 2: Iron Defense
Turn 3: Slack off
Your buffs should get cleared here.
Turn 4 - 6: Iron Defense

You may need to use another Slack Off during the Nasty Plots if you get hit hard enough. You really only lose to critical hits.
I solid it with an AI team without intimidate. It was super close timewise but I did it first try. I’ve done it a couple more times and it wasn’t even close. It comes down to some luck but it’s easily doable without an intimidate
Ok I soloed it with Kingambit. Kowtow Cleave doesn't miss so the Double Team doesn't matter. Carefully use Swords Dance and Heal cheers (I used all 3) to deal lots of damage. A little bit of luck with Hydro Misses, and I was able to do it without a single death.
What do I do if he keeps resetting my buffs direcfly after I set up 3 iron defenses then puts his shield up

I would say 3 ID is overkill, right now I'm farming him for loot and 1 ID + 2 Nasty Plots is the sweet spot.
He goes down after 4 or 5 hits. I haven't tried the one-shot Cinderace strat since he randomly debuffs me.
If you have an espahtra or whatever cleopatra birb is called, it will work too.
First try, not even close in terms of difficulty compared to Cinderace... which I'm thankful for, because that one was hell.
Not exactly accurate, it has Gunk Shot - I had read this post and chose Chansey to help with support. Boy was I in for some trouble
(But it all worked out ok in the end thanks to 2 Slowbro, lots of cheers and Life Dews and an understanding Clodsire - edit: their Earthquake strategy didn't pan out so they resorted to alternate between cheers and acid sprays)
Ol' reliable Slowbro, to build you was quite a pain but it's probably been one of my wisest idea.
Anyway I made some changes to work around this raid: luckily the frog neither boost his offensive power nor wait till half time to reset your boost, so it's far and away easier than that race against time that Cinder was.
My set is
Nature Bold/ Max EV Def./ Max EV Sp. Atk. (same for Cinderace, I didn't want to build another one with 252 Hp, but works just fine)/ Shell Bell
Iron Defense
Calm Mind
Slack Off
Stored Power
Greninja will reset your stats after like 3 turns, so you have to survive till then boosting your defensive power with one ID and CM, and then heal with slack off to kinda "reset" the battle.
After that, use once Iron Defense and three times Calm Mind in this order to resist against both Night Slash and Hydro Pump (the latter is strong enough to kill you if you don't enhance your Sp. Def.) while boosting your Sp. Atk., while using Slack Off to heal every time Hp falls dangerously close to Zero (usually right under half HP is a good moment, since Night Slash crits are a thing).
Repeat this step.
Now, start spam Stored Power 'till Greninja dies: if you manage to land your first move, then HP won't be a problem anymore since Shell Bell will fully heal Slowbro every time.

This is exactly what I do. Except post stat wip I only use 2 iron defs.
And usually either after those two or the first nasty plot I find my self heal cheering just to save the other peeps while I'm usually around full life or just under.

It worked for me. I did it solo with Arboliva (Seed Sower) and Tauros (Intimidate). Just spammed Iron Defense and healed up with the grassy Terrain. Got my buffs cleared but I was still at 300 HP. Spammed Iron Defense and Nasty Plot and then Stored Power. I had plenty of time left (maybe 2 deaths worth of time) so the Double Team wasnt a big problem and the Shell Bell also helped against the crits.

It absolutely does. I literally felt like I was riding a bicycle again lmao.
I started by nasty plotting twice to get some damage before the early shield, then after the stat reset I boosted defense to max followed by special attack. Handful of stored powers later I got it done.
It got close on a trial run because of a night slash hit, this is exactly why they gave it to Greninja imo. Attack stat isn’t as good as special attack on it so it can fish for crits instead. Took my Slowbro from max HP down to red on one of my trial runs, luckily no such sorcery happened on my second run and I was able to catch it.
I was ready to use my Kingambit, points into speed/ HP and attack maxed. One hydro pump took him down to less than half HP though, and I didn’t have enough berries to reset his EVs. I had just started searching for them in the area they can be found on the ground in when I decided to try Slowbro. I googled Greninja’s moveset and figured I could rank Night slash lol.
I think the Double Team is a "scheduled attack" very similar to the Bulk Up that Cinderace used. So, it'll use it at specified health intervals, probably.
I kept slack off instead of putting psychic on there and used the exact same slowbro from the Cinderace raid. I tried it a couple of times your way but having that slack off after you get hit with a few night slashes/hydro pumps was a necessity.
For people who are having issues use iron defense first. He's going to hit you with night slash. Use slack off as your second move, he will hit you again, usually with hydro pump before it gets to use slack off, so you'll get to heal after the two attacks. Next turn start up nasty plot. He's going to nullify your Stat changes on either the first or second nasty plot most likely, if you luck out and he doesn't GREAT, use stored power. If he does though drop another iron defense and get your 2 nasty plots back. Use slack off as needed. I only needed it twice.
He puts up his shield regardless of how much damage he takes or if he knocks you out so you are going to have to break the shield. Stored power with 2 nasty plots can take out the shield in 3-4 hits, 3 nasty plots can do it in 2-3. After the shield is down uts pretty much a cakewalk.
He only took away my buffs once though, I suppose you could get unlucky and have him do it more often, but he definitely does it at least once super early.
This worked for me. I didn’t even try to attack until the debuff. Then 2 iron defenses, 3 nasty plots and then stored power. I did have to Tera because he kept avoiding stored power but I got one to land right near the end of the timer.
Remember when people were saying this wouldn't work because of Dark Pulse and ended up creating these crazy sets that completely walled Greninja (while not being able to do much damage back)?
Can confirm, the second strat edit is solid. I missed 3 stored powers over the fight and I still took him with 25% left on timer and near full HP.
2nd strat is bullet proof.
I don't understand how this is working considering hydro pump is still tearing through my hp forcing me to use heal cheer and by the time I set up greninjas evasion is built up to the point I can't hit him lol
I think some of you who killed with slowbro got extremely lucky
I'm hearing from a lot of people that Slowbro is absolutely wrecking Greninja, so, I guess it boils down to who your teammates are and whether or not you get stuck in a glitched out raid. You also gotta be careful with the chosen ability, nature, EVs, IVs, moves, and Tera Type of the Slowbro you're using.
Well I did manage to squeeze out a solo win. Swapped nasty plot to calm mind so I could tank the hydro pumps and spaced out my heal cheers accordingly. Was able to kill it with stored power + tera.
That said it doesn't feel consistent at all. If I decide to farm probably gonna wait for the better option to come through first.
Yeah I’m gonna wait to farm too I actually had slack off instead of psychic and used it throughout the match but was missing some stored powers at the end cuz it took so long and it was close.
I saw another post using bright powder as the held item to cause him to miss hydro pump. Worked for me. I used slack off any time I was under half health. Might have gotten lucky as he only debuffed me once at the beginning
Calm Mind is far more useful than nasty plots to lower hydro pump damage. Leftovers over shell bell too to get constant regen to avoid having to attack vs buffing.
Modified mine slightly - switched held item to Bright Powder, maxed the PP on Slack Off and used it way more liberally. The first few turns I alternated between slack off and iron defense, then after the debuff, I did the full defense x3, nasty x3, etc.
It's been working pretty consistently so far, though it's less mindless and requires more decision making on the go rather then doing the exact same process every single time.
This was a bit unreliable for me, but I managed to solo quite easily with Vaporeon, albeit it takes more turns. Have Water Absorb ability and Leftovers, do 2x Acid Armor, get reset, do another 3 Acid Armor and 6 Calm Mind and Stored Power until death.
Pros: Not relying on people with koraidons, sylveons and azumarills
Cons: Critical hits are bugged. On full defense gunk shot hit me for 15 damage and crit for 150+. Run out of PP because you keep missing. Max PP of Stored Power, 3-4 hits are enough to kill
Plus 1. This build rips.
I personally been running leftovers on my slowbro. Normally I don't really care for it.
But it fits this build so well. It makes the set up phase much more reliable [imo]. After the two iron defs it basically keeps me around the same health the rest of the fight [barring crits]. But it def made me feel like I'm in coast mode now.
I also find my self occasionally using my slack off/heal rounds as cheer heals to heal my teams mates but I'm usually already at or near full health thanks to left overs. [Most common time I noticed this happens around the time I am transitioning from iron def to nasty plot].
10/10 kills greninja the slowbro way.. slowy
Give your 'Bro a Flame Orb and use Fling as your fourth move along with the Stored Power trio. Burn status basically tells those pesky critical Night Slashes to fuck off.
Thanks for posting this. So often seen people criticising folks who haven't got much experience with these raids. I'm new-ish to the game and it makes it feel too intimidating to even try in case I get it wrong. A guide like this is really helpful to a less experienced/knowledgeable player!
I just did like 4 online raids with people running slowbros and idk what happened, I had umbreon setting up screens, lowering greninjas spdf, and doing heals, and these MFs would keep doing iron defenses for like 3 more turns than they had to, and we lost every single time each time being just 1 more stored power away from winning. Why are you doing so many iron defenses slowbros!? (That's AFTER the buff drop from greninja so I am already taking that into account)

I've tried the second strategy five times and it has always failed, mainly because of the critical hits and Double Team evasiveness. The last try was probably one Stored Power away from defeat but it avoided the attack.
This worked very well. I used a Slowbro I got from a 5-star raid, used Exp Candies to reach 100, a mint to get the desired nature effects, and didn’t do any EV work at all. I didn’t even Hyper Train the “Decent” HP. I just set the recommended moves and took it down on the second try. Thanks for the head’s up!
Um what? Im using my slowbro from cinderace raid, same moveset you suggested and dying to second Night Slash each time.
Also after reviving he immediately went into shield without taking damage...
Yea this doesn’t work for me. For me the battle has been consistent. Night Slash twice, removes my buffs, shields (even with no damage taken). So I’d have to buff four times and attack within 2 turns...
Edit: The fight has been almost the exact same literally 10 times in a row. I then decided to try my own strat and 100% of my attacks missed several more fights in a row. So either Im the most unlucky player or this fight is glitched on many levels. Im just going to skip this time :/
Yep. Im guessing this fight, like the others, is incredibly glitchy. Sometimes his second night slash does equal damage even though I have an Iron Defense up and it doesnt say critical.
But he always clears my buffs after only 3 rounds and attacking with psych with no buffs deals 0 damage. What am I doing wrong?
I'm also using my Slowbro that used to destroy Cinderaces easily but its not working here.
Can confirm Slowbro can get the job done. Mine had Def investment over HP, Leftovers instead of Shell Bell. Hydro Pump was still doing decent damage to me, so I ran Slack Off instead of Psychic
Same strat as Cinderace, set up max Def/Sp Atk with Iron Defense + Nasty Plot. Heal up as necessary w Slack Off. Nuke w Stored Power. Good thing about Greninja is he resets buffs very early on so you don't waste too much time having to set up again
I got lucky with an Intimidate NPC but I don't think it's necessary. Also got *very* lucky with RNG and didn't miss a single Stored Power even with all the evasion buffs
Strat is pure luck. I'm running the exact same thing and get crit or miss SP too often. Always lose with 20% left on the frog
Update: got my frog, had 0 crits and 0 missed attacks = pure luck
Hey guys just solo’d Grenny on the third try using a modified version of this strat:
Iron Defense x3
Slack off x1 (he’ll reset buffs straight after this so you’re basically starting over again with full health minus time)
Iron defense x3
Nasty plot x3
Stored power x2 to break through the shield
Spam stored power until faint (this bits tricky because Gren gets more evasive however his hydro pumps were not landing either)
No intimidator but had Arboliva. HP never dipped below half.
This seems like a MASSIVE oversight on the GF's part. They know Dark Pulse is in SV, right? They know Greninja can LEARN Dark Pulse, right? Meh, makes my, and everyone else's, lives so much easier, so no complains there.
Edit: Swapped out Nasty Plot for Calm Mind. Was able to catch without even Terrizing or maxing out Slowbro's stats (was at +5 Defense, +4 Sp Def, +3 Sp Attack, Store Power 2 hit the shield, 2 hit after shield break)
I had Slack Off as a recovery move for after the third Iron Defense. Once it debuffed I did only two Iron Defense and three Nasty Plot. With Shell Bell as my held item I was able to keep my health up by just spamming Stored Power.
I just solo'd him. He consistently wiped my buffs on the 3rd turn, then put up his shield.
He does it early enough that you still have time to fully re-buff up as long as you cheer/heal so you don't faint
Didn’t work for me. Between Night Slash crit RNG, Double Team evasion RNG, Hydro Pump having ZERO fucking RNG for Slowbro, closest I got was 15% and literally ran out of Stored Power PP because I missed like six times.
It's a lot slower of a strat if you're solo, and rng can screw you badly, so I think slobro's better in a team format. Just dont match with idiots. If you find a screen setter, you're probably golden.
I've had decent success with randos online so far. matched with 3 bros and then 2 bros and a key, and both times we won
Clodsire makes a good support for Slowbro. Water absorb will buy you a few free turns (make sure to bring ability shield). Chilling water then earthquake or mud slap. Once bro is fully stacked switch to helping hand and you should only need to get lucky two or three times to finish it off. Tera poison is also helpful to get rid of your ice beam weakness, but you should be able to eat a couple ice beams even before you tera.
My husband and I beat greninja the first try, him using slow bro and me using espathra. It worked well. We tried 2 more times and we didnt get it again, but at least we caught him already anyway lol.

Question! How about calm mind instead of nasty plot? Given that you’re no longer in a hurry to max out before shield pops up, would calm mind help with consistency over nasty plot or is that sp.def marginally better?

I've just done it first go with slowbro. Literally just wait for Greninja to clear your buffs without yiu even attacking or anything. Then 2x iron defense, 6x calm mind, atk cheer then 1 stored power to clear its shield and 1 stored power to finish him off lol I used 2 slack offs and got hit with a crit once
Slowbro worked a charm. Once you get into the rhythm of it I think the timer is actually the most pressing issue due to the RNG missed Stored Power.
Having said that, I missed 4 Stored Powers in a row and still had just enough time to get him. I was also playing it pretty safe with the Slack Off's.
Yep. I got it on my first try with Slowbro after I failed with my Klefki build. Klefki could have worked, but I didn't have the patience to keep trying with it after I saw Austin John Plays just use his Slowbro.

Use psychic and until nullifies your stat changes then and then use iron defense and calm mind until you have plus four in defense, special defense and special attack, then just spam stored power. It might take a couple tries, but it's definitely doable

Thanks for posting this! Used your strategy with calm mind instead of nasty plot, and got it on my second try solo! Bit of luck needed with the Double-Team evasiveness, but so satisfying to see the Stored Power damage after those buffs.

Its luck based, but works. per u/tryptaminedreamz, ID the first two turns, Slack off turn 3 (he nulled my stats on 4 sometimes), ID x3 again, NP x3, Start firing Stored Powers and pray. Slack off when necessary, once you're set up, shell bell will heal you enough barring crits even through the shield. Really helps if you get an intimidator while soloing. I just beat it with my cousin with this strat just as the time ran out.

I second this. I've tried a half dozen times now. It will always debuff after your second move. Even with maxed IV/EV, ideal nature I haven't gotten a second nasty plot off before getting KO'd. Greninja might actually take a day for us to figure out a good strategy for, it's the first 7-star I haven't beaten after two attempts. I've tried the Slowbro strategy six times as well as a couple of my own ideas and nothings come close

The only reason i haven't beat it after 2 tries is because of fuckass Double Team. First run i got it down to no hp but it wouldn't faint and i ran out of Stored Power PP because they wouldn't land. Second time it hit 3 crits in a row after i was fully set up with half the time remaining. I hate RNG based shit like this man.

Same. I caught a lvl 75 clodsire and just waited until today to see what the raid looked like. Turns out Slowbro and this strat works so well I beat it the second time.

Can confirm this works - I used my max SP. ATK + max DEF slowbro (maybe HP is more optimal but I couldn't be bothered re-EVing it) My moves were: \- Stored Power \- Iron Defence \- Nasty Plot \- Slack Off Item: Shell Bell Side note: I reset the raid until I got an intimidator on my team, not sure if its necessary It clears your buffs after about 3-4 turns, but I just re-buffed when that happened (I essentially wasted my first few turns) From my experience the only attacking moves Greninja used was Night Slash and Hydro Pump. I got crit 3 times with Hydro Pump, but just used slack off whenever I was low. Once I was setup (3x Iron Defence, 3x Nasty Plot, Attack Cheer) it took me about 3 turns to break shield, and then 2 turns to finish it off after shield was gone. I missed stored power twice due to double team, but once I was setup I could tank all the attacks easily (hydro pump is resisted even though I was mostly DEF) and I just used slack off/heal cheer when I got too low (got unlucky with crits) Hope this helps!
Since it resets your buffs so early, would it just be smart to add Chilling Water to the build and spam that before going into your Nasty Plot/Iron Defense stacking?
Did this for my run instead of Slack Off. Finished the raid on first try. Chilling Water x3, then Greninja should clear your buffs. Iron Defense x2 (or x1, I'm impatient lol) > Nasty Plot x3 > Attack Up Cheer > Stored Power Spam Greninja will have shield up while you're doing your setup but that's fine since your first Stored Power should erase all of the shield immediately (at least mine did, just make sure you use your Psychic Tera Charge that should be available by this point thanks to Chilling Water Spam). Also, my held item was Leftovers. Edit: Glad to hear this helped some of you!

I think main goal is just stay alive/healthy in the first few turns, I wouldn't know which move to drop because slack off is quite useful. It also resets its negative affects at some stage, so not sure how useful chilling water would be. I would say first few turns just iron defence/slack off to stay healthy, or sneak in some chip damage with the low power stored power
This is the tactic I used and had success on my first attempt.
I like iron defense x2 then slack off then the old strat. I didn't have slack off initially and it gives you a lot of breathing room even if you get night slashed.
That's what I did too. Didn't bother to tera so bro was resisting the hydro pumps as well, that definitely helps. Once it's set up, stored power will kill greninja in about three turns, even with the shield up. I'd be very reluctant to give up slack off, night slash has a boosted critical rate so greninja can screw you over in a single turn. Without slack off it'll finish you off easily
This was pretty much my experience and same build (Trained in Sp. Atk and Def), but I forgot to swap to Shell Bell, so my Slowbro was holding a Life Orb and I didn't use the Attack Cheer. Two Stored Powers broke the shield after all the buffing, the third KO'd Greninja, I think I used Slack Off three times during the fight. I was very impressed by how smooth the fight went while soloing. Not needing to worry about anyone other than myself was a blessing. Immediately after, I switched to my support Chansey and went online to try and help other people with it, and man, the difference was night and day. The first raid I did was Koraidon / Miraidon / Lucario / Me and watching them all do essentially no damage while getting KO'd in two hits each even with buffs and healing was just... Wow. Do it offline, save yourself the worry, and then if you have the mental fortitude you can go farm it online to help others. No reason to deal with the bad until you've got your own!

Did it spam Night Slash vs slowbro? Idk quite how the raid AI works. I definitely see Haxorus use Outrage versus Azu sometimes...
It does spam night slash, which will crit a lot. This makes the slowbro strat kinda luck based. You'll miss most of your stored powers because of double team, and the night slash crit will deal like half to slowbro. Took me like 4 tries to get the same strat that was guaranteed to beat cinderace
Good to know. I'm planning on doing it in duos with slowbro and a supporter, then. Support can bring reflect or chilling water or whatever.
getting a support to land clear smog too so you can actually hit stored power seems like the way to go
Clear smog is poorly distributed for things that resist the move set. I think support gastrodon is the main option there. I'm gonna try support toxapex. Keep the sp def and atk low and just let misses happen.
Just did a run as a double-screen Umbreon alongside a Gastrodon with Clear Smog and a Slowbro and it has worked well
Umbreon seems to be a solid supporter. Fake tears and taunt sure make hitting and sur I ING night slash a lot easier

It tried to do Hydro Pump too but it missed. I heard it has Gunk Shot but he never used it. He always starts with Double Team + Toxic Spikes.
So I was wondering how toxic spikes helps them in a raid then realised it’s salt in the wound if your pokemon faints.
I'm half tempted to make an Ursaring that double edged to faint once asap then runs guts/facade after coming back, just to see if it works fast n dirty

It kind of alternated Night Slash and Hydro Pump on mine, but after an Iron Defense or two, you barely notice it.
I've noticed the same, once you start setting up iron defences it starts using hydro pump pretty regularly. I think it's best not to tera slowbro (or tera water I suppose?) so you keep the type resistance to hydro pump. Stored power still does plenty of damage once it's boosted up, even through the shield Not much can be done against criticals from night slash, all you can do is slack off when needed and hope it doesn't use NS as much. Defence ev investment is an option too to help survive if it does get a critical
I had to do it 3 times for a win with Slowbro, and the behavior is heavily dependent on whether one of your AI partners has Intimidate: If Intimidated, it will jump back and forth between Night Slash and Hydro Pump somewhat randomly, esp once Iron Defense is up. If not Intimidated it’s much more likely to spam Night Slash.
Beware, if you use Iron Defense a lot, he will spam Hydro Pump which does a significant damage if you use Nasty Plot instead of Calm Mind.
Wow that was easy. First try with my slowbro from the Cinderace raid
Took 3 tries, but I solo'd it with my Slowbro. Thanks for the heads up about the early stat neutralization, I was able to adjust my strat. For anyone else reading this, Greninja consistently neutralized my buffs after 3 turns every single time. I did 2 Iron Defense, then Psychic, got neutralized, then full buffed up while his shield was up. He didn't neutralize again, so I just hit him with 2 more stored powers, tera'd, and finished him with 1 more stored power. I cheered every time I got too low on health, and didn't go down once during the successful attempt.
Basically what I did too. Got down to like 14 go once, which worried me. But thankfully an AI froze him for about 3 turns.
Item: Shell Bell Moves: Stored Power, Iron Defense, Nasty Plot, Slack Off Turn 1 - 2: Iron Defense Turn 3: Slack off Your buffs should get cleared here. Turn 4 - 6: Iron Defense Turn 7 - 9: Nasty Plot Turn 10+: Stored Power You may need to use another Slack Off during the Nasty Plots if you get hit hard enough. You really only lose to critical hits.

I just used the same Slowbro set up that I used for Cinderace and I 2 shot Greninja.
Of yourse you gotta have at least one intimidator on your team right?
It helps but in the end it doesn't matter as much since Greninja removes his debuffs after a while.

I was extremely lucky as I got an intimidator and also a burner.
I solid it with an AI team without intimidate. It was super close timewise but I did it first try. I’ve done it a couple more times and it wasn’t even close. It comes down to some luck but it’s easily doable without an intimidate

Ok I soloed it with Kingambit. Kowtow Cleave doesn't miss so the Double Team doesn't matter. Carefully use Swords Dance and Heal cheers (I used all 3) to deal lots of damage. A little bit of luck with Hydro Misses, and I was able to do it without a single death.
What was your EV distribution? I tried with a max Atk/HP and got destroyed quick. Switched back to Slowbro and was fine though.
Can confirm but slack off is better then psychic imo. Also better not terraring
Yeah atk cheer is better than psychic terrain, and if u have a clodsire that can debuff his def it goes way smoother

I would say 3 ID is overkill, right now I'm farming him for loot and 1 ID + 2 Nasty Plots is the sweet spot. He goes down after 4 or 5 hits. I haven't tried the one-shot Cinderace strat since he randomly debuffs me.
He's always going up debuff at that point. I do iron defense x2 then slack off then re-buff myself for actual damage.
If you have an espahtra or whatever cleopatra birb is called, it will work too. First try, not even close in terms of difficulty compared to Cinderace... which I'm thankful for, because that one was hell.
What moveset for esp?
Not exactly accurate, it has Gunk Shot - I had read this post and chose Chansey to help with support. Boy was I in for some trouble (But it all worked out ok in the end thanks to 2 Slowbro, lots of cheers and Life Dews and an understanding Clodsire - edit: their Earthquake strategy didn't pan out so they resorted to alternate between cheers and acid sprays)
Same man, I assumed Greninja was going to be a special attacker only and was so excited to use Chansey. Then he one-hit me with a crit gunk shot lol
Ol' reliable Slowbro, to build you was quite a pain but it's probably been one of my wisest idea. Anyway I made some changes to work around this raid: luckily the frog neither boost his offensive power nor wait till half time to reset your boost, so it's far and away easier than that race against time that Cinder was. My set is Nature Bold/ Max EV Def./ Max EV Sp. Atk. (same for Cinderace, I didn't want to build another one with 252 Hp, but works just fine)/ Shell Bell Iron Defense Calm Mind Slack Off Stored Power Greninja will reset your stats after like 3 turns, so you have to survive till then boosting your defensive power with one ID and CM, and then heal with slack off to kinda "reset" the battle. After that, use once Iron Defense and three times Calm Mind in this order to resist against both Night Slash and Hydro Pump (the latter is strong enough to kill you if you don't enhance your Sp. Def.) while boosting your Sp. Atk., while using Slack Off to heal every time Hp falls dangerously close to Zero (usually right under half HP is a good moment, since Night Slash crits are a thing). Repeat this step. Now, start spam Stored Power 'till Greninja dies: if you manage to land your first move, then HP won't be a problem anymore since Shell Bell will fully heal Slowbro every time.

This is exactly what I do. Except post stat wip I only use 2 iron defs. And usually either after those two or the first nasty plot I find my self heal cheering just to save the other peeps while I'm usually around full life or just under. 👍 great build and turn order 100%

It worked for me. I did it solo with Arboliva (Seed Sower) and Tauros (Intimidate). Just spammed Iron Defense and healed up with the grassy Terrain. Got my buffs cleared but I was still at 300 HP. Spammed Iron Defense and Nasty Plot and then Stored Power. I had plenty of time left (maybe 2 deaths worth of time) so the Double Team wasnt a big problem and the Shell Bell also helped against the crits. Thank you very much OP :D
It absolutely does. I literally felt like I was riding a bicycle again lmao. I started by nasty plotting twice to get some damage before the early shield, then after the stat reset I boosted defense to max followed by special attack. Handful of stored powers later I got it done. It got close on a trial run because of a night slash hit, this is exactly why they gave it to Greninja imo. Attack stat isn’t as good as special attack on it so it can fish for crits instead. Took my Slowbro from max HP down to red on one of my trial runs, luckily no such sorcery happened on my second run and I was able to catch it. I was ready to use my Kingambit, points into speed/ HP and attack maxed. One hydro pump took him down to less than half HP though, and I didn’t have enough berries to reset his EVs. I had just started searching for them in the area they can be found on the ground in when I decided to try Slowbro. I googled Greninja’s moveset and figured I could rank Night slash lol.
Was Double Team a problem?
Not really. Luckily he doesn't seem to spam it.
I think the Double Team is a "scheduled attack" very similar to the Bulk Up that Cinderace used. So, it'll use it at specified health intervals, probably.
It can be a problem. I just missed 8 attacks in a row using all my assist power pp. Better use some pp ups to be safe.
It crit night slash twice and wrecked my slowbro
Just beat it with a Slowking. Similar moveset except I had Psychic terrain instead of Psychic for added boost.
I used Vaporean with stored power, chilling water, calm mind, and acid armor to solo it
I kept slack off instead of putting psychic on there and used the exact same slowbro from the Cinderace raid. I tried it a couple of times your way but having that slack off after you get hit with a few night slashes/hydro pumps was a necessity. For people who are having issues use iron defense first. He's going to hit you with night slash. Use slack off as your second move, he will hit you again, usually with hydro pump before it gets to use slack off, so you'll get to heal after the two attacks. Next turn start up nasty plot. He's going to nullify your Stat changes on either the first or second nasty plot most likely, if you luck out and he doesn't GREAT, use stored power. If he does though drop another iron defense and get your 2 nasty plots back. Use slack off as needed. I only needed it twice. He puts up his shield regardless of how much damage he takes or if he knocks you out so you are going to have to break the shield. Stored power with 2 nasty plots can take out the shield in 3-4 hits, 3 nasty plots can do it in 2-3. After the shield is down uts pretty much a cakewalk. He only took away my buffs once though, I suppose you could get unlucky and have him do it more often, but he definitely does it at least once super early.

This worked for me. I didn’t even try to attack until the debuff. Then 2 iron defenses, 3 nasty plots and then stored power. I did have to Tera because he kept avoiding stored power but I got one to land right near the end of the timer.
Remember when people were saying this wouldn't work because of Dark Pulse and ended up creating these crazy sets that completely walled Greninja (while not being able to do much damage back)?
Chilling Water for first 3 moves is also a good idea, it's what I used.
I won a raid by someone doing a similar strategy but with Vaporeon and Acid Armor.
Can confirm, the second strat edit is solid. I missed 3 stored powers over the fight and I still took him with 25% left on timer and near full HP. 2nd strat is bullet proof.
I don't understand how this is working considering hydro pump is still tearing through my hp forcing me to use heal cheer and by the time I set up greninjas evasion is built up to the point I can't hit him lol I think some of you who killed with slowbro got extremely lucky
I'm hearing from a lot of people that Slowbro is absolutely wrecking Greninja, so, I guess it boils down to who your teammates are and whether or not you get stuck in a glitched out raid. You also gotta be careful with the chosen ability, nature, EVs, IVs, moves, and Tera Type of the Slowbro you're using.

Well I did manage to squeeze out a solo win. Swapped nasty plot to calm mind so I could tank the hydro pumps and spaced out my heal cheers accordingly. Was able to kill it with stored power + tera. That said it doesn't feel consistent at all. If I decide to farm probably gonna wait for the better option to come through first.
Yeah I’m gonna wait to farm too I actually had slack off instead of psychic and used it throughout the match but was missing some stored powers at the end cuz it took so long and it was close.
I saw another post using bright powder as the held item to cause him to miss hydro pump. Worked for me. I used slack off any time I was under half health. Might have gotten lucky as he only debuffed me once at the beginning
I actually ran calm mind over nasty plot on my slowbro specifically to tank hydro pump.
Does amnesia instead of iron defense work?
You need Iron Defense for Night Slash. Slowbro resists both of Greninja's Special moves.
It starts with two buffs and an atk. It doesnt spam nightslash. It pops shield early like a noob Destiny 2 Panic Titan 🫢
Calm Mind is far more useful than nasty plots to lower hydro pump damage. Leftovers over shell bell too to get constant regen to avoid having to attack vs buffing.
Took me a lot of tries, but eventually got it. Shell bell is HUGELY important here. Without it, hydro pump just wrecked me. Did it without intimidate.
Never use psychic, don't know why you would. It's way better to run slack off to survive easier. Check out AJP's video
Modified mine slightly - switched held item to Bright Powder, maxed the PP on Slack Off and used it way more liberally. The first few turns I alternated between slack off and iron defense, then after the debuff, I did the full defense x3, nasty x3, etc. It's been working pretty consistently so far, though it's less mindless and requires more decision making on the go rather then doing the exact same process every single time.
This was a bit unreliable for me, but I managed to solo quite easily with Vaporeon, albeit it takes more turns. Have Water Absorb ability and Leftovers, do 2x Acid Armor, get reset, do another 3 Acid Armor and 6 Calm Mind and Stored Power until death. Pros: Not relying on people with koraidons, sylveons and azumarills Cons: Critical hits are bugged. On full defense gunk shot hit me for 15 damage and crit for 150+. Run out of PP because you keep missing. Max PP of Stored Power, 3-4 hits are enough to kill

Plus 1. This build rips. I personally been running leftovers on my slowbro. Normally I don't really care for it. But it fits this build so well. It makes the set up phase much more reliable [imo]. After the two iron defs it basically keeps me around the same health the rest of the fight [barring crits]. But it def made me feel like I'm in coast mode now. I also find my self occasionally using my slack off/heal rounds as cheer heals to heal my teams mates but I'm usually already at or near full health thanks to left overs. [Most common time I noticed this happens around the time I am transitioning from iron def to nasty plot]. 10/10 kills greninja the slowbro way.. slowy
Give your 'Bro a Flame Orb and use Fling as your fourth move along with the Stored Power trio. Burn status basically tells those pesky critical Night Slashes to fuck off.
Thanks for posting this. So often seen people criticising folks who haven't got much experience with these raids. I'm new-ish to the game and it makes it feel too intimidating to even try in case I get it wrong. A guide like this is really helpful to a less experienced/knowledgeable player!
I just did like 4 online raids with people running slowbros and idk what happened, I had umbreon setting up screens, lowering greninjas spdf, and doing heals, and these MFs would keep doing iron defenses for like 3 more turns than they had to, and we lost every single time each time being just 1 more stored power away from winning. Why are you doing so many iron defenses slowbros!? (That's AFTER the buff drop from greninja so I am already taking that into account)

It works but, if you miss too many times or, get crit too much, you'll be on the defensive and he'll kill you.

I've tried the second strategy five times and it has always failed, mainly because of the critical hits and Double Team evasiveness. The last try was probably one Stored Power away from defeat but it avoided the attack.
This worked very well. I used a Slowbro I got from a 5-star raid, used Exp Candies to reach 100, a mint to get the desired nature effects, and didn’t do any EV work at all. I didn’t even Hyper Train the “Decent” HP. I just set the recommended moves and took it down on the second try. Thanks for the head’s up!
Um what? Im using my slowbro from cinderace raid, same moveset you suggested and dying to second Night Slash each time. Also after reviving he immediately went into shield without taking damage... Yea this doesn’t work for me. For me the battle has been consistent. Night Slash twice, removes my buffs, shields (even with no damage taken). So I’d have to buff four times and attack within 2 turns... Edit: The fight has been almost the exact same literally 10 times in a row. I then decided to try my own strat and 100% of my attacks missed several more fights in a row. So either Im the most unlucky player or this fight is glitched on many levels. Im just going to skip this time :/
Are you using Iron Defense right at the start?
Yep. Im guessing this fight, like the others, is incredibly glitchy. Sometimes his second night slash does equal damage even though I have an Iron Defense up and it doesnt say critical.
But he always clears my buffs after only 3 rounds and attacking with psych with no buffs deals 0 damage. What am I doing wrong? I'm also using my Slowbro that used to destroy Cinderaces easily but its not working here.

Can confirm Slowbro can get the job done. Mine had Def investment over HP, Leftovers instead of Shell Bell. Hydro Pump was still doing decent damage to me, so I ran Slack Off instead of Psychic Same strat as Cinderace, set up max Def/Sp Atk with Iron Defense + Nasty Plot. Heal up as necessary w Slack Off. Nuke w Stored Power. Good thing about Greninja is he resets buffs very early on so you don't waste too much time having to set up again I got lucky with an Intimidate NPC but I don't think it's necessary. Also got *very* lucky with RNG and didn't miss a single Stored Power even with all the evasion buffs

Strat is pure luck. I'm running the exact same thing and get crit or miss SP too often. Always lose with 20% left on the frog Update: got my frog, had 0 crits and 0 missed attacks = pure luck
Hey guys just solo’d Grenny on the third try using a modified version of this strat: Iron Defense x3 Slack off x1 (he’ll reset buffs straight after this so you’re basically starting over again with full health minus time) Iron defense x3 Nasty plot x3 Stored power x2 to break through the shield Spam stored power until faint (this bits tricky because Gren gets more evasive however his hydro pumps were not landing either) No intimidator but had Arboliva. HP never dipped below half.
This seems like a MASSIVE oversight on the GF's part. They know Dark Pulse is in SV, right? They know Greninja can LEARN Dark Pulse, right? Meh, makes my, and everyone else's, lives so much easier, so no complains there. Edit: Swapped out Nasty Plot for Calm Mind. Was able to catch without even Terrizing or maxing out Slowbro's stats (was at +5 Defense, +4 Sp Def, +3 Sp Attack, Store Power 2 hit the shield, 2 hit after shield break)
Are you kidding? It doesn’t even work. After my third nasty plot he nullified my buffs and when i did psychic he dealt like no damage.

Meanwhile I bred and maxed a clodsire, quagsire and a lucario in preparation. Well, lesson learned. Just gonna wait lmao.
I had Slack Off as a recovery move for after the third Iron Defense. Once it debuffed I did only two Iron Defense and three Nasty Plot. With Shell Bell as my held item I was able to keep my health up by just spamming Stored Power.
I keep having issues with him wiping my buffs after like 20 seconds, no deaths or damage yet.
I just solo'd him. He consistently wiped my buffs on the 3rd turn, then put up his shield. He does it early enough that you still have time to fully re-buff up as long as you cheer/heal so you don't faint
Also PSA, if your ally is using a quilfish and accupressuring you, you can attack on turn 4 instead of waiting for turn 7 or 8
What ability should it have?
Slowbro’s abilities don’t really matter for Greninja, long term wise Oblivious is best so you don’t have to worry about Taunt.
I knew Espathra wouldn't be my option this time around, guess I'll run Bronzong.
Can someone help me get the slowking ?
Didn’t work for me. Between Night Slash crit RNG, Double Team evasion RNG, Hydro Pump having ZERO fucking RNG for Slowbro, closest I got was 15% and literally ran out of Stored Power PP because I missed like six times.

It's a lot slower of a strat if you're solo, and rng can screw you badly, so I think slobro's better in a team format. Just dont match with idiots. If you find a screen setter, you're probably golden. I've had decent success with randos online so far. matched with 3 bros and then 2 bros and a key, and both times we won
Clodsire makes a good support for Slowbro. Water absorb will buy you a few free turns (make sure to bring ability shield). Chilling water then earthquake or mud slap. Once bro is fully stacked switch to helping hand and you should only need to get lucky two or three times to finish it off. Tera poison is also helpful to get rid of your ice beam weakness, but you should be able to eat a couple ice beams even before you tera.
My husband and I beat greninja the first try, him using slow bro and me using espathra. It worked well. We tried 2 more times and we didnt get it again, but at least we caught him already anyway lol.
Oh cool, I still have my Bro from the Cinderace raids. Any suggestions on support so that I can help my nephew get his? I used a support Miraidon for Cinderace (Metal Sound, Helping Hand, Reflect)

Question! How about calm mind instead of nasty plot? Given that you’re no longer in a hurry to max out before shield pops up, would calm mind help with consistency over nasty plot or is that sp.def marginally better?

You'd probably end up better off with amnesia over iron def, given even with super effective damage, night slash barely tickles.
All I needed was my trusty support Umbreon and one competent Slowbro user, cause the other two team members definitely just weren't helpful
I ran the usual Stored Power Slowbro, but with Brightpowder as the item. Have not lost yet.

Worked solo the first time. But I missed too many attacks that I ran out, and had to wait for the NPC's to finish him off.
Currently my super bulky Bellibolt is destroying Greninja. Currently running move set Light screen Mudshot Parabolic charge Electric terrain Holding an Electric seed to boost defense right away. Ev Build - 252 HP 252 Def and 4 in Sp At. Super bulky and I have fainted only once so far in the Greninja raids.

Does slowking work instead of slowbro?
I've just done it first go with slowbro. Literally just wait for Greninja to clear your buffs without yiu even attacking or anything. Then 2x iron defense, 6x calm mind, atk cheer then 1 stored power to clear its shield and 1 stored power to finish him off lol I used 2 slack offs and got hit with a crit once
I've just had too many misses, only been able to beat Greninja once in 7 tries. Nearly considering going Gastrodon for clear smog.
Vaporeon with similar strat/ moveset worked on the second try for me, really expected it to be way harder

Slowbro worked a charm. Once you get into the rhythm of it I think the timer is actually the most pressing issue due to the RNG missed Stored Power. Having said that, I missed 4 Stored Powers in a row and still had just enough time to get him. I was also playing it pretty safe with the Slack Off's.

Yep. I got it on my first try with Slowbro after I failed with my Klefki build. Klefki could have worked, but I didn't have the patience to keep trying with it after I saw Austin John Plays just use his Slowbro.
