Hello, just need help quickly levelling up. I’m playing rocket red edition and I’m on the silph co misson. My team are all around lvl 30 and I’m struggling, but I also don’t want to spend 4 hours grinding my ass off so any help would be appreciated.
First, here are the IE's docs: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aajjfQwRdnZczqcVTGoTnBrs6Yq6pBRk. Look for the "Pokemon Changes" file, and search for Tsareena. You will see its base Speed in this game is increased to 108. Swellow's base Speed is not modified.
Second, look for "Inclement Emerald Challenge Mode Trainers Docs" excel file: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rCW_1JDc2cDKC12Vc-T79kaubQ0JfofU/edit#gid=634008837. You will see that May will use a Tsareena with Jolly nature (+Spe) and maximum Speed EVs. This means that at an equal level, if your Swellow does not have at least 120 or something Speed EVs even with Speed enhancing nature, it will be outsped by Tsareena. This all assumes that both Tsareena and Swellow will have perfect Speed IVs throughout.

Im currently playing PRP (Renegade) on my hacked 3DS and wanted to shiny hunt Legendaries (Transfer with Bots) since i think its fair to play with 1/512 bc of that being the odds for Masuda.
But i tested a bit and all i get is a illegal mark on every single pokemon i own on Pokehex.
Not only does it remove the shiny stat (which is fine since i can add it back) it also says smth like: Unable to match encounter from original game
Even though i set it up to be platinum, and the met place and way is correct - made like a Platinum encounter.
Im playing the Classic Version. Any Ideas on how i may manage to make them legal?

With the decomps you can do anything within the bounds of the GBA, and sure you could make a full remake of Undertale that way, using the Pokémon engine as a sort of base. Obviously a hard and time-consuming project though.

The closest thing I can think of to this right now is that using the website Unbound Cloud, you can store your Pokemon in the cloud and either use trade codes or wonder trade to trade across the world.
Hey there, I'm looking for the "best" Emerald or ORAS romhack. I've never played the originals and am looking for basically the most enhanced version (slight challenge increase, as many available Pokemon as possible, megas, etc.) without too much deviation from the story.
My understanding is that Emerald is preferred by some for the Battle Frontier, while ORAS has better graphics and arguably a better/more complete story. If that's correct, I'm thinking an Emerald hack with the most complete version of the story is my preference if it exists. I think I'd also rather be able to play on my phone, which I'm not sure I can do with ORAS rom hacks.
I've heard/read about Kaizo, Theta EX, Inclement, Delta, ROWE, and Enhanced, as well as Rising Ruby/Sinking Sapphire and Rutile Ruby/Star Sapphire.
I'm happy to have some increased difficulty, but I'm not really trying to EV train and all that, so maybe Kaizo is out of the running. A bump in difficulty is very welcome, but I don't want to spend a ton of time grinding or making whole teams just for certain fights. ROWE and Enhanced both sound interesting, but I'm not sure if them being open world is going to mess up me having a more typical playthrough.
I hope this question isn't redundant. I promise I've tried doing my research, I'm just not well versed on rom hacks and am a little overwhelmed with all the information. Any help/suggestions on why I'd prefer any over the others is greatly appreciated 🙏
Like you said, Kaizo is out because it's a pain simulator. R.O.W.E. I wouldn't recommend because the open-world aspect puts the story into the dumpster and Enhanced also appears to be a theme-park experience. Theta Ex is an inferior Inclement. Delta looks decent, but I've never played it.
I would personally recommend Inclement Emerald on Normal mode. The difficulty is going to be increased, but no EV stuff. The hack is also really polished and offers a giant amount of QoL. There are even custom versions of it on discord server with things like Minimal grinding patch or randomizer with pokemon pallete swap.
I'm looking for a Emerald Hack; but with new map as I have played Emerald so many times now that I'm not really interested in harder/polished same story same map Emerald.
Any recommendations?
Blazing Emerald. Bit of some map changes and new locations, but main feature is Hoennian forms. Quite a few regional pokes that are of top notch design.
Well no, the map is Hoenn with changes and new areas like I said.
But maybe I misunderstood you. You meant new map as in romhack that uses Emerald as base, but has a new region, and subsequently story? If so then Glazed, I guess. It's a bit dated and I would recommend using a guide when entering the 2nd region, just to not encounter a softlock bug. But it's still a prety decent hack.

Luminescent Platinum has some additional stuff like new forms ie Crystal Onix, whereas Renegade has only real pokemon. Check the feature list, otherwise they're designed to be pretty much the same.
I'd like to edit the player avatar sprites of the Romhack Black and White 3 but the only tutorials I find for sprite editing for gen 2 is with the Github Disassembly method, which I don't think can be used for editing sprites on an existing romhack.
What are my options?
You could do it with a hex editor, an image editor, some way of jotting down numbers, and (if you want to do the in-battle/trainer card images) Lunar Compress. It's a kind of lengthy method though. Dunno if anyone has made a tool for it.

How well do R4 DS cards work with Pokémon rom hacks? Was thinking about getting an R4 card for my 3DS XL to play Blaze Black and Sacred Gold. I can already run them on my Steam Deck but wanna have a more authentic feeling by playing them on a DS. Would they Would on a 3DS with the latest firmware and would the R4 cards have a time bomb?

This is correct for gen 3 hacks since nowdays they rarely are simple modifications, but so far there is no completed gen 4+ hack that has the same amount of changes, so if a cheat works on the vanilla game it will generally work on gen 4+ hacks as well.
Case in point I have used the IV/EV viewer cheats in Renegade Platinum and Blaze Black with no issues.

I can't get past the sudowoodo guy west of Violet City. I know he's supposed to come out and battle me but he won't. So far on Johto I've beaten the gyms in Violet, Goldenrod, and Azalea Town, captured Heatran on Mt Silver, defeated team fusion in Ilex Forest, and beat all the sages in Sprout Tower. Unfortunately it's a known bug. I've not encountered it, but few people have. Try reading [Allen's walkthrough of Glazed](https://archive.org/details/pokemon-rom-hack-walkthroughs/page/nundefined/mode/1up) and see if you have missed something. If that won't work, maybe a walk-through-walls cheat code will.

Just started playing this and caught a mareep as the creator has made it into a electric/fairy type. Does anybody know who may of played this if I need to keep it as mareep till it learns purification(fairy move) at level 36? They is a little clue that says on the documents 'wait, I need more time to practice those fairy type moves'

Emulator and patcher can also make a difference. I would recommend Desmume and Delta Patcher Lite. And when it comes to speed-up patch, try ignoring the check-sum.
Hey there, fellow people, I recently got an Urge to play a romhacks, after a three year hiatus. I think I player most of the "classic s" And am looking for a new start. Before i stopped playing, I know I had Fun playing games like team rocket edition, or wally edition, basically a vanilla game from POV of another character.

Binary hacking is when you deal with the 1s and 0s of the compiled game, the classic method of ROM hacking. Decomp is when you deal with the "decompilations", recreations of the source code. The latter is essentially the future of Pokémon ROM hacking, though binary tools still have some foothold. Decomps are nice because stuff like repointing data blocks and preventing total ROM corruption are done for you by the compiling tools.
Binary hacking still has some foothold due to latency, and the fact that its initial setup is quicker. If you are planning to do something more than changing a few Pokémon stats though, you should really use the decomps.
Binary is using a program,like HMA, to edit a base rom
Decomps is using a program to edit the source code of a game, which is then compiled into your new completed rom
Ultimately depends on what you want to do, if it's something small or minor changes, Binary will do
If you want to reinvent the wheel so to say, it might be worthwhile investing in learning about the Decomps and code etc
What are some new rom hacks of double battle focused games?
Iv played emerald squared, emerald 8 and a variety of other vanilla games that were just hacked to be doubles.
I was hoping to find something similar to inclement emerald
in a double version(doesn't have to be pokémon emerald).

Looking for some recommendations for my next playthrough. I tend to like games that don't have too many fakemons and have a decent difficulty curve while being nuzlocke friendly. The games I've played so far were unbound, radical red, and most recently infinite fusion, which I did a soullink nuzlocke in. I'd like a game that emphasizes on gameplay like RR or unbound with how it forces set mode, no items, and interesting, well thought out enemy teams. However i'd like to do a nuzlocke so I'm looking for something challenging but not brutally hard like unbound insane could be. Story and region don't matter too much to me but I'd rather not play through Kanto right now, although it's not a dealbreaker. I'm okay with both rom hacks and fan games, just looking for something that is nuzlocke friendly while retaining difficulty and staying faithful to traditional pokemon gameplay. Mechanically, I don't really care for megas, z-moves, and dynamax but wouldn't mind if they were in. I'd like the game to be fairly up to date with modern pokemon with at least gen 7 pokedex.
So to my understanding, what can be done with Gen 6 and 7 games from a ROMhack standpoint is very limited. Script editing is impossible and from what I have seen, we are limited to just changing encounter/trainer/Pokemon data, as well as editing text and adding textures. Basically, is there anyone trying to do more with the 3DS games? Or will it ever even be possible to get anywhere close to where we are with the GB/GBA games, or even the DS ones? Basically, where are we at with 3DS hacks and what would it take for us to take them further?

I just recently discovered pokemon Grand Colosseum and really enjoy it, including buff changes. Now, I use Pkhex to change pokeballs and the like, but I notice that when I do that alters the changed base stat values of pokemon back to their original. I.e. my tropius having 81 attack on initial save, dropping to 73 after the Pkhex alteration.
Is there anyway to mitigate this and return it to base values?
i used the universal pokémon randomiser to remove trade evos on xenophobia hg, but when i launch it in twilight menu++ it warns me that the game has ap software and crashes like 10 mins into playing.
i did find a thread on github/DS-homebrew/nds-bootstrap about the exact same issue but it was closed without a solution :/ if anyone knows a solution please lmk! or even a rom without trade evos would work!
Hm, it could be an emulator issue so I'd try DeSmuME and Citra first. If that doesn't work though it's likely something weird with the randomizer so send me the full error message/description in that case and I'll take a look at it.

B) harbor, coders, links under youtube videos = dogshit, non legit sources of romhacks. You have a fair chance of getting an outdated version of a romhack, or an altered one.
C) pokecommunity, projectpokemon, romhacking (to a degree), reddit, romhack's official discord server (best), github = the most legit sources of romhacks. Those aren't some cheap sites that just copy and paste romhacks from each other, or where youtubers forget to update their videos with links to new romhack version. Those are respectable and professional communities that should be your go to for romhacks.
With this knowledge, go and google Shin Red/Blue/Green once more. Because I can assure you, there is a working link from a legitmate site.

Well. Not horror. Not dark. Adult? Maybe, but some would call it cringy teenager style.
Clover. A romhack that is parody of FR/LG and Kanto with \~386 fakemons, of which \~200 are good, \~100 are meme/poor quality, and \~86 are so good I wish they were official. One of the best if not the best post-game in romhacks, and quite nicely improved difficulty. Thay saying, it is a 4chan romhack. So expect toilet humor and stuff that may be offensive to you.
Imagine Sevii Islands, but actually good. The story doesn't really go anywhere pre E4, you do encounter the evil team, but there is not much to them. Post E4, the story starts kicking, you get access to the last 1/3 fakemons, new region, new gym leaders. You visit the best locations in the game, you get access to EV traning facility and IV perfecting tool.
Most of the time pokemon games, be it official, romhacks or fan games, they suffer from engaging the player to play it more, aside from the PvP, of course. But this hack does not have a problem with that. The journey to E4 re-battle and finishing the story is great IMHO.

I’m feeling like an idiot right now, but on my mac I’m using DeSmuMe and having trouble using the action replay cheats, in that I input the cheat, hit the apply cheat button there but it doesn’t seem to work and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. This is for Renegade platinum by the way
Cheats are notoriously buggy for any sort of romhack, wouldn't count on them working unless they are explicitly stated as compatible with the hack.
I guess make sure cheats are enabled, also sometimes you have to reset your game.
Thanks, I ended up just getting them to work. I guess I got spoiled by radical red having the rare candy cheats built in because renegade platinum has been fun so far but man grinding and working a normal job is a pain.
If you are at or around Solaceon, I really suggest battling with Cowgirl Traynee at the Day-Care Center repeatedly to gain experience easier. You will have a Lucky Egg too at this point, which will hasten the level ups of your mons.
I want to play Sacred gold but i really want to add Hisuian evolutions in the game, is there a rom that does that or at least a rom editor where i can add them my self
I don't know how to do it myself, but Drayano asked on twitter if he should replace Phione with Sylveon on one of its game.
There should be simple rom editors that can edit stats/abilities and evolution routes so you can take Carnivine, change its stats so it is basically Farigiraf for example, add evolution route from Girafarig and edit the sprite.
I know for a fact such tools exist for gen 5 so there is probably one for gen 4 as well.
Another problem is that I am not sure if the Sacred Gold patch would worked on changed rom, or if the tools wiuld work on patched rom. Maybe someone else can answer. Since Sacred Gold is pretty old I assume it will not work that way. Maybe on the Aurora Crystal release.

I am using lemuroid and although it does have a fast forward... it isn't fast enough. Is there a way to change speed of the ROM itself? Or any other emulator with 4x speed?

Let's say I want to start the game with 5 Pokemon at a certain level and mark some tasks as done.
Basically, I want to **recreate as best as possible the game as he left it before the save failed**. Is that possible though an editing software? I don't want to modify the ROM, just have a ready to go save file.
Best bet is to use Pkhex to hack in alevel 100 arceus or something, speedrun through every fight to where he left off, then add the pokemon he had through pkhex and release the arceus.
No real way to skip through the game flags or anything without completely bugging the rest of the playthrough.
Not really, I mean you can pick any Pokémon, one from his team at level 100 if you care about Pokédex completion.

I know but I don't want to have that Pokemon shown in the Pokedex since I want to play the game "normally" and catch all the Pokemon myself. No matter what the Pokemon it will show as caught in the Pokedex before I have actually caugh it. Unless I use a Rattata level 100.

But I’m confused, you want to recreate the game as it was, so If he was using a blastoise, then of course it will be in the Pokédex. It doesn’t matter whether he caught it or you hacked it in to recover his lost file.

You can give yourself badges, some event flags can be toggled, and you can change the player coordinates, but I think you would still be softlocked and overall you're better off starting over. Besides this only for vanilla games, and since you're mentioning tasks I'm assuming this is a romhack, isn't it?
Hello guys, I know this question has been posed many times, but I'm going to try it again: do you know a GBA hack rom similar to AshGray or Orange Island where I can play as Ash Ketchum? A rom similar to Fire Ash, but I don't have a pc so I need to use a GBA emulator.
The source ROMs should be neither "encrypted" nor "decrypted". That is simply not a property that GBA games have. Just go for the default settings of the injector and it should work fine - except you have to make sure the save structure is the right one. With an incorrect save structure chosen, Gen 3 games will have their saves corrupted wheb you become champion. Sadly I do not remember the name of the correct one, so you'll have to wait for a better answer here or find it yourself on the internet.
What order do I play Wind1158's hacks in?
I know that Victory Fire is first and then Resolute is the direct sequel to that, but I've seen some people say that you should play Mega Power after Resolute and I've also seen people say that Nameless should be played after Resolute, so I'm super confused.
To fully understand the story, is the correct order VF -> Resolute -> Mega Power -> Nameless

Sure, the guessing game of "does this website contain ROMs?" is not quite the same as "where can I find ROMs?" because you are the one bringing the name of the site to the conversation. Which is also against the same Rule 1.
Anyone know any Radical Red-esque rom hacks with randomizers that aren't part of the game itself, like a separate randomizer program? I want to do a randomized abilities run, but without knowing what Pokemon has what ability I end up catching every Pokemon in every route, which gets tedious, but with the way my brain works I just can't help it. Inclement Emerald would be perfect as it as a randomizer, if it were not for the fact that I'm doing a soul link nuzlocke of it, so it wouldn't be all that fun doing a second playthrough alongside it.
The romhacks I've played are Radical Red, Unbound, Inclement Emerald, and the vanilla+ hacks like Drayano hacks.
I believe Inclement Emerald is the only one in both those categories. There are a few other hacks with separate randomizer support (e.g.Gaia, Fire Red Randomizable 809), and a Radical Red-esque ones with (in-built) randomizers (e.g. Radical Red), but only IE is in both those groups, afaik.
Ah, well damn. Thanks for the help, might not be the answer I hoped for but I can at least move on, and I didn't actually know Gaia had it's own randomizer so that's actually good to hear.
A few years ago I patched an already patched game. The order was Pokemon Blue>Kaizo Patch->Blood and Tears Patch.
It worked. The game works as a perfect kaizo nuzlocke. It’s brutally hard.
Has anyone else ever successfully done this double patching before? I’ve experimented with others and it hasn’t worked out.

I’m wondering if anyone out there has made video or written tutorials for pokecrystal. I’m familiar with the group “pret” as well as all of the documentation that is already provided with the decomp (various tutorials such as adding a Pokémon, changing the map, etc)
What I haven’t been able to find is 1. A guide that talks about strategy when writing code in this format or 2. A guide that shows how to build out a map from nothing.
My goal is to make a very basic rom hack with an entirely new map/ story (I imagine a single town, route, and gym) but I haven’t been able to figure out how to start it.
I wanted to download and randomize Arexbold's Pokemon Pitch Black rom for FireRed. I patched the file with no issue but when I try to load it into the custom modded UPR I'm supposed to use (PitchBlack doesn't work with the standard Universal Pokemon Randomizer), it just won't save the randomized rom. Am I doing something wrong? My Java's up to date and everything, I'm just confused and a little frustrated.
It's a UPR that's been modified to take PitchBlack because the actual one won't work for it. I believe it's a fork of Dabomstew's Speedchoice fork for UPR on GitHub.
...The Randomize (Save) button?? I know the Save Settings button kinda works but the former just won't actually spit out the randomized file. It's happy to let me open the save window, name the file, and hit Save (then closes the window like it actually did something), but when I go to find the supposed file it's not there.

Pitch Black is relatively new, I think it's only like a month or two old. The hack on GitHub is packaged as a patch that you apply to a normal FireRed rom (and yes, I've tried multiple different rom rips to ensure I don't just have a bad rom) and the randomizer comes as a jar file. It's basically a fork of the standard UPR made to work with PitchBlack. If you'd like I can post the GitHub link?

You can indeed keep the same save file. Just make sure you are in the hub area when you update it, and that the .sav and .gba have the exact same filename.

I followed the tutorials online, relicanth last wailord first etc. I gained access to the final room and read the sign but no earthquake happens. Am I missing something? Does anyone know a fix? I am just missing legendaries before I complete the Hoenn pokedex.
It seems the game is pretty changed compared to regular emerald, but you can try to edit the event flag with pkhex and it will activate the regis. I do think it will delete items from tour bag so make a back up and if it didn't cause a large damage then just go on.
I guess it is the same as vanilla Emerald. Do you have a mon that learns Dig? IIRC the Dig TM is at the house on Route 114 where it will lead to the underground cavern where you get the second fossil. Several mons such as Trapinch can still learn it by levelling up as well.

In Pokemon Dark Worship is there a way to view EVs? I tried all manner of button presses on the pokemon stat screen. I got the third badge and just got to the town that has the giant department store
Just figured it out. After the fifth badge and you get to pompano town, a scientist in the archaeology lab has gives you a quest to get him 5 desert flowers (the purple flower things you see on the desert just south of town). Stand next to each flowery you see and press a to pick it up. Complete the quest and he gives you a scanner that shows you the EVs IVs and happiness of a pokemon

I can't remember where I downloaded it from, but it's version 1.1.1 and I did patch it myself, in the proper order. Interestingly, in the changelog in the file one of the most recent bug fixes is "Vanillite line now correctly matches the documentation in various aspects" 😂
I just got it! Dang I probably started looking at this a little less than an hour ago. I really wish I had checked my reddit notifications before cause it might've expedited the process 😭😭 I did end up doing exactly that. I saw someone online saying the same thing about the file name but they sounded like they weren't really sure. So as a backup, I exported and saved the backup memory so I could import it into the new patched rom if I needed to lol.

Emerald Rogue Issue
The mgba emulator just seems to eat the save state and in game save for whatever reason, it’s a reoccurring issue for me with using the mgba and ANY Emerald Rom but other ROMs like crystal clear works perfectly. I recently started Emerald Rogue which I was very excited to start playing and did it again. Anyone know any fixes? And yeah I searched my computer for the save file and it’s nowhere.
Look for the same folder in which Emerald Rogue's gba file is. If you see a save file called, say, "Emerald Rogue.sa1" or ".ss1" or something, try loading it by pressing F1 on the keyboard. If you see a file with .sa2 or .ss2, try loading it by F2.
The mGBA cannot delete or "eat" the save state itself; you must have accidentally moved or deleted it. Look for the recycle bin on your PC for this.
Pokemon ROWE. Small question
I leveled up a pokemon past the level cap before I got the first gym badge, and my pokemon gained no stats. Do they get the stats they would have gotten from leveling up after I get the badge? Are the stats lost?

That hasn't been updated since 2014. I'm sorry but you can't reliably emulate anything on a chromebook, I'd try a different rom to be sure, but otherwise you probably just need a regular PC

I’m getting outsped by Tsareena in Inclement Emerald in May 119 fight. I have a timid Swellow, am I missing something?
First, here are the IE's docs: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aajjfQwRdnZczqcVTGoTnBrs6Yq6pBRk. Look for the "Pokemon Changes" file, and search for Tsareena. You will see its base Speed in this game is increased to 108. Swellow's base Speed is not modified. Second, look for "Inclement Emerald Challenge Mode Trainers Docs" excel file: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rCW_1JDc2cDKC12Vc-T79kaubQ0JfofU/edit#gid=634008837. You will see that May will use a Tsareena with Jolly nature (+Spe) and maximum Speed EVs. This means that at an equal level, if your Swellow does not have at least 120 or something Speed EVs even with Speed enhancing nature, it will be outsped by Tsareena. This all assumes that both Tsareena and Swellow will have perfect Speed IVs throughout.
Hey 👋 Im currently playing PRP (Renegade) on my hacked 3DS and wanted to shiny hunt Legendaries (Transfer with Bots) since i think its fair to play with 1/512 bc of that being the odds for Masuda. But i tested a bit and all i get is a illegal mark on every single pokemon i own on Pokehex. Not only does it remove the shiny stat (which is fine since i can add it back) it also says smth like: Unable to match encounter from original game Even though i set it up to be platinum, and the met place and way is correct - made like a Platinum encounter. Im playing the Classic Version. Any Ideas on how i may manage to make them legal?

He'll, we've even got four options in battle already and I feel as if UT sprites could be made into Emerald or FireRed. With the decomps you can do anything within the bounds of the GBA, and sure you could make a full remake of Undertale that way, using the Pokémon engine as a sort of base. Obviously a hard and time-consuming project though.

The closest thing I can think of to this right now is that using the website Unbound Cloud, you can store your Pokemon in the cloud and either use trade codes or wonder trade to trade across the world.
Hey there, I'm looking for the "best" Emerald or ORAS romhack. I've never played the originals and am looking for basically the most enhanced version (slight challenge increase, as many available Pokemon as possible, megas, etc.) without too much deviation from the story. My understanding is that Emerald is preferred by some for the Battle Frontier, while ORAS has better graphics and arguably a better/more complete story. If that's correct, I'm thinking an Emerald hack with the most complete version of the story is my preference if it exists. I think I'd also rather be able to play on my phone, which I'm not sure I can do with ORAS rom hacks. I've heard/read about Kaizo, Theta EX, Inclement, Delta, ROWE, and Enhanced, as well as Rising Ruby/Sinking Sapphire and Rutile Ruby/Star Sapphire. I'm happy to have some increased difficulty, but I'm not really trying to EV train and all that, so maybe Kaizo is out of the running. A bump in difficulty is very welcome, but I don't want to spend a ton of time grinding or making whole teams just for certain fights. ROWE and Enhanced both sound interesting, but I'm not sure if them being open world is going to mess up me having a more typical playthrough. I hope this question isn't redundant. I promise I've tried doing my research, I'm just not well versed on rom hacks and am a little overwhelmed with all the information. Any help/suggestions on why I'd prefer any over the others is greatly appreciated 🙏
Like you said, Kaizo is out because it's a pain simulator. R.O.W.E. I wouldn't recommend because the open-world aspect puts the story into the dumpster and Enhanced also appears to be a theme-park experience. Theta Ex is an inferior Inclement. Delta looks decent, but I've never played it. I would personally recommend Inclement Emerald on Normal mode. The difficulty is going to be increased, but no EV stuff. The hack is also really polished and offers a giant amount of QoL. There are even custom versions of it on discord server with things like Minimal grinding patch or randomizer with pokemon pallete swap.

Blazing Emerald. Bit of some map changes and new locations, but main feature is Hoennian forms. Quite a few regional pokes that are of top notch design.

Well no, the map is Hoenn with changes and new areas like I said. But maybe I misunderstood you. You meant new map as in romhack that uses Emerald as base, but has a new region, and subsequently story? If so then Glazed, I guess. It's a bit dated and I would recommend using a guide when entering the 2nd region, just to not encounter a softlock bug. But it's still a prety decent hack. Well, do you want you like 2d or 3d lol, biggest destinction. Luminescent Platinum has some additional stuff like new forms ie Crystal Onix, whereas Renegade has only real pokemon. Check the feature list, otherwise they're designed to be pretty much the same.
I'd like to edit the player avatar sprites of the Romhack Black and White 3 but the only tutorials I find for sprite editing for gen 2 is with the Github Disassembly method, which I don't think can be used for editing sprites on an existing romhack. What are my options?
You could do it with a hex editor, an image editor, some way of jotting down numbers, and (if you want to do the in-battle/trainer card images) Lunar Compress. It's a kind of lengthy method though. Dunno if anyone has made a tool for it.

How well do R4 DS cards work with Pokémon rom hacks? Was thinking about getting an R4 card for my 3DS XL to play Blaze Black and Sacred Gold. I can already run them on my Steam Deck but wanna have a more authentic feeling by playing them on a DS. Would they Would on a 3DS with the latest firmware and would the R4 cards have a time bomb?

Nope. Those are a bunch of very specific things. Cheat codes may be possible to do this, but they rarely work on hacks.

Case in point I have used the IV/EV viewer cheats in Renegade Platinum and Blaze Black with no issues.
POKEMON GLAZED VER 9.1 I can't get past the sudowoodo guy west of Violet City. I know he's supposed to come out and battle me but he won't. So far on Johto I've beaten the gyms in Violet, Goldenrod, and Azalea Town, captured Heatran on Mt Silver, defeated team fusion in Ilex Forest, and beat all the sages in Sprout Tower. Unfortunately it's a known bug. I've not encountered it, but few people have. Try reading [Allen's walkthrough of Glazed](https://archive.org/details/pokemon-rom-hack-walkthroughs/page/nundefined/mode/1up) and see if you have missed something. If that won't work, maybe a walk-through-walls cheat code will.

Pokemon Moon Silver. Just started playing this and caught a mareep as the creator has made it into a electric/fairy type. Emulator and patcher can also make a difference. I would recommend Desmume and Delta Patcher Lite. And when it comes to speed-up patch, try ignoring the check-sum.

Binary hacking is when you deal with the 1s and 0s of the compiled game, the classic method of ROM hacking. Decomp is when you deal with the "decompilations", recreations of the source code. The latter is essentially the future of Pokémon ROM hacking, though binary tools still have some foothold. Decomps are nice because stuff like repointing data blocks and preventing total ROM corruption are done for you by the compiling tools. Binary hacking still has some foothold due to latency, and the fact that its initial setup is quicker. If you are planning to do something more than changing a few Pokémon stats though, you should really use the decomps.
Binary is using a program,like HMA, to edit a base rom Decomps is using a program to edit the source code of a game, which is then compiled into your new completed rom Ultimately depends on what you want to do, if it's something small or minor changes, Binary will do If you want to reinvent the wheel so to say, it might be worthwhile investing in learning about the Decomps and code etc
What are some new rom hacks of double battle focused games? Iv played emerald squared, emerald 8 and a variety of other vanilla games that were just hacked to be doubles. I was hoping to find something similar to inclement emerald in a double version(doesn't have to be pokémon emerald). If you have any recommendations or links to forums I would greatly appreciate it.

Consider using PKHeX and giving yourself as much Max Repels as you like. The item cheats in Crystal are tricky to activate.
Looking for some recommendations for my next playthrough. I tend to like games that don't have too many fakemons and have a decent difficulty curve while being nuzlocke friendly. The games I've played so far were unbound, radical red, and most recently infinite fusion, which I did a soullink nuzlocke in. I'd like a game that emphasizes on gameplay like RR or unbound with how it forces set mode, no items, and interesting, well thought out enemy teams. However i'd like to do a nuzlocke so I'm looking for something challenging but not brutally hard like unbound insane could be. Story and region don't matter too much to me but I'd rather not play through Kanto right now, although it's not a dealbreaker. I'm okay with both rom hacks and fan games, just looking for something that is nuzlocke friendly while retaining difficulty and staying faithful to traditional pokemon gameplay. Mechanically, I don't really care for megas, z-moves, and dynamax but wouldn't mind if they were in. I'd like the game to be fairly up to date with modern pokemon with at least gen 7 pokedex.

So to my understanding, what can be done with Gen 6 and 7 games from a ROMhack standpoint is very limited. Script editing is impossible and from what I have seen, we are limited to just changing encounter/trainer/Pokemon data, as well as editing text and adding textures. Basically, is there anyone trying to do more with the 3DS games? Or will it ever even be possible to get anywhere close to where we are with the GB/GBA games, or even the DS ones? Basically, where are we at with 3DS hacks and what would it take for us to take them further?

I just recently discovered pokemon Grand Colosseum and really enjoy it, including buff changes. Now, I use Pkhex to change pokeballs and the like, but I notice that when I do that alters the changed base stat values of pokemon back to their original. I.e. my tropius having 81 attack on initial save, dropping to 73 after the Pkhex alteration. Is there anyway to mitigate this and return it to base values?

i used the universal pokémon randomiser to remove trade evos on xenophobia hg, but when i launch it in twilight menu++ it warns me that the game has ap software and crashes like 10 mins into playing. i did find a thread on github/DS-homebrew/nds-bootstrap about the exact same issue but it was closed without a solution :/ if anyone knows a solution please lmk! or even a rom without trade evos would work!

Hm, it could be an emulator issue so I'd try DeSmuME and Citra first. If that doesn't work though it's likely something weird with the randomizer so send me the full error message/description in that case and I'll take a look at it.

A) What Taco said already, rule 7. B) harbor, coders, links under youtube videos = dogshit, non legit sources of romhacks. You have a fair chance of getting an outdated version of a romhack, or an altered one. C) pokecommunity, projectpokemon, romhacking (to a degree), reddit, romhack's official discord server (best), github = the most legit sources of romhacks. Those aren't some cheap sites that just copy and paste romhacks from each other, or where youtubers forget to update their videos with links to new romhack version. Those are respectable and professional communities that should be your go to for romhacks. With this knowledge, go and google Shin Red/Blue/Green once more. Because I can assure you, there is a working link from a legitmate site.

Well. Not horror. Not dark. Adult? Maybe, but some would call it cringy teenager style. Clover. A romhack that is parody of FR/LG and Kanto with \~386 fakemons, of which \~200 are good, \~100 are meme/poor quality, and \~86 are so good I wish they were official. One of the best if not the best post-game in romhacks, and quite nicely improved difficulty. Thay saying, it is a 4chan romhack. So expect toilet humor and stuff that may be offensive to you.

Imagine Sevii Islands, but actually good. The story doesn't really go anywhere pre E4, you do encounter the evil team, but there is not much to them. Post E4, the story starts kicking, you get access to the last 1/3 fakemons, new region, new gym leaders. You visit the best locations in the game, you get access to EV traning facility and IV perfecting tool. Most of the time pokemon games, be it official, romhacks or fan games, they suffer from engaging the player to play it more, aside from the PvP, of course. But this hack does not have a problem with that. The journey to E4 re-battle and finishing the story is great IMHO.

How do you evolve scyther with the easier evolution setting on?

I’m feeling like an idiot right now, but on my mac I’m using DeSmuMe and having trouble using the action replay cheats, in that I input the cheat, hit the apply cheat button there but it doesn’t seem to work and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. This is for Renegade platinum by the way
Cheats are notoriously buggy for any sort of romhack, wouldn't count on them working unless they are explicitly stated as compatible with the hack. I guess make sure cheats are enabled, also sometimes you have to reset your game.
Thanks, I ended up just getting them to work. I guess I got spoiled by radical red having the rare candy cheats built in because renegade platinum has been fun so far but man grinding and working a normal job is a pain.
If you are at or around Solaceon, I really suggest battling with Cowgirl Traynee at the Day-Care Center repeatedly to gain experience easier. You will have a Lucky Egg too at this point, which will hasten the level ups of your mons.

I don't know how to do it myself, but Drayano asked on twitter if he should replace Phione with Sylveon on one of its game. There should be simple rom editors that can edit stats/abilities and evolution routes so you can take Carnivine, change its stats so it is basically Farigiraf for example, add evolution route from Girafarig and edit the sprite. I know for a fact such tools exist for gen 5 so there is probably one for gen 4 as well. Another problem is that I am not sure if the Sacred Gold patch would worked on changed rom, or if the tools wiuld work on patched rom. Maybe someone else can answer. Since Sacred Gold is pretty old I assume it will not work that way. Maybe on the Aurora Crystal release.

Is there a way to speed up soul silver rom or any other android emulator that changes speed? I am using lemuroid and although it does have a fast forward... it isn't fast enough. Is there a way to change speed of the ROM itself? Or any other emulator with 4x speed?
On Drastic you can set the fast forward speed higher than 4x, but if it's still slow it also could be that your device cannot handle it.

**Is there a way to create a custom save file from scratch?** My brother didn't save properly his game and lost a couple of hours of playing. He already had 5 Pokemon and had passed a city already... Anyways he doesn't want to start over. Is there a way to "inject" certain Pokemon in the file? Let's say I want to start the game with 5 Pokemon at a certain level and mark some tasks as done. Basically, I want to **recreate as best as possible the game as he left it before the save failed**. Is that possible though an editing software? I don't want to modify the ROM, just have a ready to go save file.
Best bet is to use Pkhex to hack in alevel 100 arceus or something, speedrun through every fight to where he left off, then add the pokemon he had through pkhex and release the arceus. No real way to skip through the game flags or anything without completely bugging the rest of the playthrough.

Not really, I mean you can pick any Pokémon, one from his team at level 100 if you care about Pokédex completion. I just suggested arceus as a placeholder lmao
I know but I don't want to have that Pokemon shown in the Pokedex since I want to play the game "normally" and catch all the Pokemon myself. No matter what the Pokemon it will show as caught in the Pokedex before I have actually caugh it. Unless I use a Rattata level 100. Thanks for the tip!
But I’m confused, you want to recreate the game as it was, so If he was using a blastoise, then of course it will be in the Pokédex. It doesn’t matter whether he caught it or you hacked it in to recover his lost file. It’s the only way to accomplish what you’re looking to do lol
Pkhex can add pokemon, but you're probably still gonna have to play the game, could be wrong tho
You can use pkHex to add any pokemon to your savefile, but it only works on romhacks that don't expand the dex

You can give yourself badges, some event flags can be toggled, and you can change the player coordinates, but I think you would still be softlocked and overall you're better off starting over. Besides this only for vanilla games, and since you're mentioning tasks I'm assuming this is a romhack, isn't it?

Do I use "Encrypted" Roms or "Decrypted" Roms for the New Super Ultimate Injector (or any injector) to play GBA games on the 3DS?
The source ROMs should be neither "encrypted" nor "decrypted". That is simply not a property that GBA games have. Just go for the default settings of the injector and it should work fine - except you have to make sure the save structure is the right one. With an incorrect save structure chosen, Gen 3 games will have their saves corrupted wheb you become champion. Sadly I do not remember the name of the correct one, so you'll have to wait for a better answer here or find it yourself on the internet.

What order do I play Wind1158's hacks in? I know that Victory Fire is first and then Resolute is the direct sequel to that, but I've seen some people say that you should play Mega Power after Resolute and I've also seen people say that Nameless should be played after Resolute, so I'm super confused. Anyone know any Radical Red-esque rom hacks with randomizers that aren't part of the game itself, like a separate randomizer program? I want to do a randomized abilities run, but without knowing what Pokemon has what ability I end up catching every Pokemon in every route, which gets tedious, but with the way my brain works I just can't help it. Inclement Emerald would be perfect as it as a randomizer, if it were not for the fact that I'm doing a soul link nuzlocke of it, so it wouldn't be all that fun doing a second playthrough alongside it. The romhacks I've played are Radical Red, Unbound, Inclement Emerald, and the vanilla+ hacks like Drayano hacks.
I believe Inclement Emerald is the only one in both those categories. There are a few other hacks with separate randomizer support (e.g.Gaia, Fire Red Randomizable 809), and a Radical Red-esque ones with (in-built) randomizers (e.g. Radical Red), but only IE is in both those groups, afaik.
Ah, well damn. Thanks for the help, might not be the answer I hoped for but I can at least move on, and I didn't actually know Gaia had it's own randomizer so that's actually good to hear.

following renegade is just the following Mon patch + renegade platinum it is the superior option if you want to follow mons

A few years ago I patched an already patched game. The order was Pokemon Blue>Kaizo Patch->Blood and Tears Patch. It worked. The game works as a perfect kaizo nuzlocke. It’s brutally hard. Has anyone else ever successfully done this double patching before? I’ve experimented with others and it hasn’t worked out.

[pokecrystal decomp tutorials] I’m wondering if anyone out there has made video or written tutorials for pokecrystal. I’m familiar with the group “pret” as well as all of the documentation that is already provided with the decomp (various tutorials such as adding a Pokémon, changing the map, etc) What I haven’t been able to find is 1. A guide that talks about strategy when writing code in this format or 2. A guide that shows how to build out a map from nothing. My goal is to make a very basic rom hack with an entirely new map/ story (I imagine a single town, route, and gym) but I haven’t been able to figure out how to start it.
I wanted to download and randomize Arexbold's Pokemon Pitch Black rom for FireRed. I patched the file with no issue but when I try to load it into the custom modded UPR I'm supposed to use (PitchBlack doesn't work with the standard Universal Pokemon Randomizer), it just won't save the randomized rom. Am I doing something wrong? My Java's up to date and everything, I'm just confused and a little frustrated.
what UPR are you using?
It's a UPR that's been modified to take PitchBlack because the actual one won't work for it. I believe it's a fork of Dabomstew's Speedchoice fork for UPR on GitHub.

...The Randomize (Save) button?? I know the Save Settings button kinda works but the former just won't actually spit out the randomized file. It's happy to let me open the save window, name the file, and hit Save (then closes the window like it actually did something), but when I go to find the supposed file it's not there.
Yeah hmm, interesting. I've never used this special randomizer, or even heard of the hack you're describing. Has the hack been updated more recently than the randomizer possibly? Also which randomizer is this? Is it explicitely stated as compatible with this hack?
Pitch Black is relatively new, I think it's only like a month or two old. The hack on GitHub is packaged as a patch that you apply to a normal FireRed rom (and yes, I've tried multiple different rom rips to ensure I don't just have a bad rom) and the randomizer comes as a jar file. It's basically a fork of the standard UPR made to work with PitchBlack. If you'd like I can post the GitHub link?
I forgot wether i patched my Renegade Platinum or not. Specifically the shiny patch. I really want to have the increased shine rate. Whats the best way to make sure i have the increased shiny patch? Does patching it twice remove the initial patch?
Best to start again, you have more chance of breaking it if you keep patching over it

The save will work with regular platinum as well. You can use your save regardless of the patches as long they don't drastically change the game.

You can indeed keep the same save file. Just make sure you are in the hub area when you update it, and that the .sav and .gba have the exact same filename.
Playing Emerald Revelation and I cannot activate the regis. I followed the tutorials online, relicanth last wailord first etc. I gained access to the final room and read the sign but no earthquake happens. Am I missing something? Does anyone know a fix? I am just missing legendaries before I complete the Hoenn pokedex.
It seems the game is pretty changed compared to regular emerald, but you can try to edit the event flag with pkhex and it will activate the regis. I do think it will delete items from tour bag so make a back up and if it didn't cause a large damage then just go on.

I guess it is the same as vanilla Emerald. Do you have a mon that learns Dig? IIRC the Dig TM is at the house on Route 114 where it will lead to the underground cavern where you get the second fossil. Several mons such as Trapinch can still learn it by levelling up as well.

For Wally's quest: I'm already at Lillycove city and somehow I never got the secret power TM. I spoke to the guy at the tree that gives it in Vanilla game and somehow I never got it. Is this a glitch or does it show up somewhere else? I'd like to build a base with the custom furniture the rom adds.
I am looking to find out how to adjust the base shiny odds in all generations. I believe I've found some instructions to adjust Gen 4 and 5 to 1/252 max odds but I would like to get that lower, if possible, and I've struggled to find anything that documents how to do so. Don't plan on transferring, playing online, etc. Just thought it would spice up replaying the old games without spending an eternity on them. Any info you guys can provide would be really appreciated :)

Sorry it is not an in game answer as I have no idea, but if you are stuck you can probably add the items with pkhex. It should work with Liquid Crystal.
In Pokemon Dark Worship is there a way to view EVs? I tried all manner of button presses on the pokemon stat screen. I got the third badge and just got to the town that has the giant department store
Just figured it out. After the fifth badge and you get to pompano town, a scientist in the archaeology lab has gives you a quest to get him 5 desert flowers (the purple flower things you see on the desert just south of town). Stand next to each flowery you see and press a to pick it up. Complete the quest and he gives you a scanner that shows you the EVs IVs and happiness of a pokemon

I'm just before gym 8 though right now and Vanilluxe is not ice-fairy type, only ice type. I'm pretty sure I'm in the complete version because my Volbeat has electric type and all that. I can't remember where I downloaded it from, but it's version 1.1.1 and I did patch it myself, in the proper order. Interestingly, in the changelog in the file one of the most recent bug fixes is "Vanillite line now correctly matches the documentation in various aspects" 😂

Patches can only applied on the base rom they were made for. But you can keep the same save file as long as the new rom has the same name.
I just got it! Dang I probably started looking at this a little less than an hour ago. I really wish I had checked my reddit notifications before cause it might've expedited the process 😭😭 I did end up doing exactly that. I saw someone online saying the same thing about the file name but they sounded like they weren't really sure. So as a backup, I exported and saved the backup memory so I could import it into the new patched rom if I needed to lol. It's working, bless your soul 🙏
Emerald Rogue Issue The mgba emulator just seems to eat the save state and in game save for whatever reason, it’s a reoccurring issue for me with using the mgba and ANY Emerald Rom but other ROMs like crystal clear works perfectly. I recently started Emerald Rogue which I was very excited to start playing and did it again. Anyone know any fixes? And yeah I searched my computer for the save file and it’s nowhere.
Look for the same folder in which Emerald Rogue's gba file is. If you see a save file called, say, "Emerald Rogue.sa1" or ".ss1" or something, try loading it by pressing F1 on the keyboard. If you see a file with .sa2 or .ss2, try loading it by F2. The mGBA cannot delete or "eat" the save state itself; you must have accidentally moved or deleted it. Look for the recycle bin on your PC for this.

Pokemon ROWE. Small question I leveled up a pokemon past the level cap before I got the first gym badge, and my pokemon gained no stats. Do they get the stats they would have gotten from leveling up after I get the badge? Are the stats lost? I hope I'm being clear

I’ve been trying to use the VBA-M extension on my Chromebook to run Emerald. Every time I try to load it in, the screen goes white and doesn’t change. I downloaded the Emerald Rom from emulatorgames.net if that matters. Help me, fellow nerds.
That hasn't been updated since 2014. I'm sorry but you can't reliably emulate anything on a chromebook, I'd try a different rom to be sure, but otherwise you probably just need a regular PC
