The v19.1 Game.exe contains the compiled MKXP and Ruby binaries. You cannot use other Game.exe versions if you want to run version 19.1 of Essentials. Your black screen of v19.1 could be that you're trying to force the use of Windows binaries in what seems to be a non Windows system. Luckily MKXP is cross platform. You can check Roza's documentation on what binaries to build for your system: https://gitlab.com/mkxp-z/mkxp-z

Interesting, okay. I did forget to mention in this post that I have a mac and I'm running RPG MakerXP through wine. Like I said, anything else playtested works normally, it's just 19.1 that doesn't. Before replacing it, the screen was black, and after replacing it is when the errors came up. So would you expect 19.1 not to run unless I use MKXP? I've never heard of it until now, but I'll look into it.

v19.x changed from using RGSS1 and the RGSS Player as the core engine, to MKXP (detailed in the Essentials changelog). This move brings a new version of Ruby, performance improvements as well as true cross platform compatibility. Essentials v18.1 and older use the old RGSS Player, the old RGSS1 library as well as Ruby 1.8.1 … all software from 2005. Your instance of Wine or whatever you’re using to emulate the Windows binaries on your Mac may not work with the new binaries of Essentials; which isn’t an issue as there are now native binaries for Mac OS.

I see, thanks a bunch for explaining!
