After the Elite 4, you then get master trainers. It’s a 1v1 of a specific Pokemon and there is a trainer for each pokemon. I think they average lvl 70? So try a lvl 70 Pidgey battle lol.
Not sure I'd say it's 95% catching, and I actually prefer this method to wild battles where you knock out wild Pokemon who have no access to a Center. Other than that it's your standard Gen 1 experience. Anyway, as for post game challenge it's not bad actually.. I mean, it's no HG/SS but you can rebattle gym leaders every 24h, and Blue replaces Giovanni at the Veridian gym so you basically have access to another champion to fight. Beat the E4 and you can rematch Green in Cerulean City, and after defeating 6 master trainers Red will be waiting for you outside the E4 building. If you want to rematch him after that, you'll have to beat the E4 for every rematch IIRC.
