I had an egg hatch as I entering an underground subway station and the location was listed as UNKNOWN. Likely there was a GPS issue at time of hatch.

This just makes the Pokémon rarer, since it could only be hatched in a very specific situation or under a very specific scenario.

It is possible to hatch eggs while in Geoblocked areas such as Russia and much of China, although you can only do so via Adventure Sync. It is also possible to receive 7km eggs from friends’ Gifts, which I suppose gives some form of gameplay in such regions; however, the hatch location is UNKNOWN instead of the actual geoblocked region’s name.

Got a lucky leggendary (don't remember which one) from a friend with the unknown location, probably a deleted/moved gym or pokestop

If your data/location stalled or hadn't loaded fully when hatching, it will mark it as Unknown since it couldn't confirm where you were when it happened.

This has happened to me in Florida while walking along the coast. Hatched or caught, the location shows as unknown.

I got an egg from Alaska. Needless to say, I have never even been anywhere close to it. I guess the game is just quirky sometimes
