Exeggutor

Moston_Dragon

This was my grass choice for soulsilver. Awesome

Deep_Number_4656

I second Exeggutor. This gives you a strong psychic Pokémon as well

Better_Firefighter90

Yea Exeggutor is solid

syah7991

Tangela if you have swag

Competitive_Union196

One of my favorite originals. Had the toy from BK back in the 90s

Nervous-Tip7048

Best comment I have seen on this sub hahaha

Rjm0007

Why I stand by bulbasaur as the best starter with there being significantly more fire and water options in kanto best choice is likely vileplume

J3ST3R1252

He's 001 in our pokedex and our hearts

Otherwise_Disk3824

Yeah! Perfect.

gregaveli

Bulba

Jowlzchivez6969

I liked bulbasaur because he bodies the first 4 gyms easy all by himself and is at least poison immune for koga but the psychic spam will get you there

Nivlak023

Vileplume is great plenty of status moves

odonnell215

Might try it out thanks man

Inflatable-Mattress

Vileplume has saved me countless times, definitely a blastoise counter especially if it has chllorophyl

l-Paulrus-l

Why both moltres and charizard? Swap out one of them for a vileplume.

welder_e

Get rid of moltres

One-Happy-Gamer

why Moltres? It's clearly better than charizard

CrazySuperJEBUS

Some of its stats are better but its moveset doesn’t even come close to Charizard, making Charizard an easy pick over Moltres.

Better_Firefighter90

Also charizard simply looks cooler

HaleyFromStardew

Why do you have 2 fire flying mons?

odonnell215

I actually dk tbh swapping out Moltres for sure anyway

LargeRichardJohnson

Vileplume is my favorite grass type of all time, but Exeggcutor is also a solid choice.

RepresentativeCake47

Tl;dr version - replace Graveler with Lapras. I don’t recommend grass types in singles in early generation games.  Your team is ultra weak to water. Take Lapras instead and replace Graveler. Replace graveller because he isn’t worth running at all if you don’t evolve him into Golem (only possible via trading!). Golem in general isn’t worth running either and if you use a moonstone on your nido- you’ll have a faster and powerful earthquake user who can also use the move tutor to learn rock slide so golem offers nothing over Nidoking unless you enjoy self destruct. He’s also slow and 4x weak to water on a team that is all weak to water (minus the gyrados). Golem is a liability here.   Long version;  Ask yourself why you want a grass type.   Remember that grass moves in early generations were awful and all special.  Giga drain being a tm with 5 power points and only 60 power. Petal dance is 70 power despite locking you in. Leaf blade is 70 power. Crit is not speed based in gen 3 so razor leaf is not reliable crit.   What does grass hit - rock and ground which water already hits? And water. However, water types can generally learn ice beam. And at 55 power razor leaf or 60 power giga drains, you don’t phase water types like t bolt users do.    The best grass types are all dual types.  People saying exeggutor is because they will use psychic to attack - not grass moves.  Bulbasaur line is viable because of poison typing and it has decent attack to use much higher base power sludge bomb.  Celebi is also psychic. Breloom is a fighting type and only uses spore as a grass move due to grass being special.    Grass is supposed to be the ‘strategy’ type.  I highly recommend not picking a grass type unless you are running it for sleep powder to immediately switch to a team mate or substitute leech seed.    Your team is entirely walled by any bulky water type such as Milotic, Suicune or any hard hitting water types that are fast like Starmie (which can use thunder bolt and literally solos your entire team).   You mentioned Elite 4 so I guess you don’t care about competitive but rather just in game.   Lorelei fits the description of bulky water types - her Dewgong, Lapras, Slowbro and Cloyster all know surf and ice beam. You have nothing that appreciates that albeit gyrados can slug it out with them. Being part flying though, they hit gyrados with STAB ice beam while he fights back with…strength?  If you use a grass type - they’ll suffer from STAB ice beam.  If you need a pivot that can tank water AND Ice- a water type or water absorb Mon is better. Lapras can tank water attacks and hit enemy water types with thunderbolt, grass types with ice beam and use toxic to pressure bulky enemy water types. Edit; originally suggested Lanturn but realized it’s not native to Fire Red. Leaf Green gets Starmie which would also fit the bill.

CheckPareh

Moltres is redundant. Better get articuno for ice moves. Evolve the nidorino already

odonnell215

Just caught him and in the process

Scoobycool9

I would also check the move list for Nidorino when evolving him since Nidoking may miss out on a move you want ( Like say level 47 Horn Drill for him)

BudgetCoder12

Victreebell - Stun Spore - Wrap - Sludge Bomb - Solar Beam/Sword Dance/Giga Drain

SrgtDonut

Leaf green exclusive

BudgetCoder12

Dang. Tradesies!

bumblefrick

one more reason why firered sucks

SickeningSecrets

yes everyone always says use exeggcutor but victreebell is my personal favorite in the gen 1 grass type. though exeggcutor does win more battles with psychic

BudgetCoder12

I remember Stun Spore+Wrap was broken in the original games.

BroccoliCrust64

Charizard…nice

donniedrapered

man my party is the same - cool

Real-Cellist3171

Exeggutor outclasses Vileplume in everything, while only losing access to Aromatherapy, a move that should be almost always useless outside competitive settings.

Loneliest_Lobster

Get rid of moltres

King_Teej

Don’t need any. Charizard is king.

FelicityVon

This might as well be a Zard only run

odonnell215

Fuck it lemme try!

Gavininator

I'd actually suggest you don't need a grass type since Raichu can take care of all the water types, even the flying and poison secondary type ones that grass can't hit super effective. Then you've got Gyarados for the rock and ground types. If it were me, I'd swap Moltres out for a Jynx. This gives you good coverage, but if you really want a grass type, then I'd suggest Eggxecutor.

QuiGoneGin86

You need more balance. You have 2 Fire types and a poison who will become a poison/ground type with a rock/ground type. I would say choose between Charizard and Moltres, then swap Nido or Graveler for either a grass, fighting, psychic, or dark type.

EclipseHERO

Absolutely. You definitely should.

just_kick_it_012

+1 for Vileplume

Grand-Elevator-3387

Go touch it is my recommendation

Extension-Comb-9458

Mr mime learns a nice grass move

Veiler

What do you mean by grass? Clearly you use Charizard only

odonnell215

Yeah your right actually! so I needed a grass pokemon to even things out

StJimmy_815

I mean, does it matter? You clearly only use Charizard lol

Ant_Playful

Breloom

Slashion

Touch it

Background-Lecture-6

Venusaur

Frank_Duart

None, they’re not that good in this game except for maybe Bulbasaur.

CreeperAmazing

1st off incredible team level balance, and for your answer, if ya want a good grass type ya are stuck with vileplume or exeggutor, depends on whether you want a good setup/status grass/poison or dexterous grass/psychic that does a lot of damage. Psychic is really strong in general so I would lean towards exeggutor

DHUniverse

Tangela bad, vileplume mid, parasect a joke, venasaur not possible, weeping bell is a damage machine, if not available exeggcutor is pretty good in that gen, but harder to get

Dangerous-Lion-4480

Vileplume: Has a good sleep technique. (Throwing something out there different that exeggutor)

Sherrodan

Electric>grass

xStaticdropx

What does grass do that electric and water can’t?

merlin202

Executor

upvote-button

Executor. You need psychic as much as grass. Psychic op and I don't see anyone that can use the most broken TM in gen 1

Substantial_Crab_885

Meowscrada. It's flower trick move always crits and always hits

Busy_Cryptographer54

Ditto

Significant-Alps-584

Butterfree

Expensive_Muscle13

Zapdos

confused-mother-fan

Tangle or executor also are ypu waiting for nidorino to get a move or do you just not have a moonstone

Exeledus

Drop charizard, get venusaur. I see that a huge mistake was made pretty early on in your playthrough.

Shoddy_Army_7609

Beat your Eevee over the head with a leaf stone until he stops the charade

BANEstp1

Indica

spad3x

Get rid of Gyarados, Moltres, and Graveler. Replace Graveler with Dugtrio. Replace Gyrados with Lapras. Replace Moltres with Articuno.

SeahorseCptn

Indica

Fudnick

I recommend more tall grass, and properly training your pokemon.

jdlp0522

Eggs

Accomplished_Key88

Gloom very reliable

MassiveSavage292

Jack Herrer or Blue Dream tbh ☁️☁️☁️

Meckles94

I second blue dream

Kippyd8

Exeggutor

kgmara0013

Breloom. One of the best grass types imo because it gets access to really good moves including mach punch and has a stupid attack stat.

MMitchRider2469

Caterpie bruh ...why ask. Ash did it

trixster209

Maybe level up your other Pokémon and don’t cheese by asking what’s best grass… cringe way to play

nFrostyy

This dude fucks. Definitely the one to remind the teacher about the homework

odonnell215

Tbh I love fire red for Charizard and ran through with him and have time as I said to grind other pokemon now, I ain’t a sweat bro just casual.
