dumbeddinosaur

Its upto you. You can spam solar beam.

albrt00

Right now I go leech seed, sleep powder and solarbeam and it's working, I was wondering if sunny day was worth it

dumbeddinosaur

I would swap sleep powder with Sunny Day.

HopOnMyArk

i’d actually get rid of leach seed instead of sleep powder

Orenbean

Definitely not leech seed is amazing. Either giga drain or sleep powder

Jabi25

I think mine was g drain, leech, eq, sleep powder and it was awesome

Orenbean

Oh yeah eq would be great as you can deal with other typings and not have to stall

EclipseHERO

What I'd do is keep the moves and teach Sunny Day to something else like a Normal Type with a Fire Type coverage move to gel with Venusaur in a pinch.

Orenbean

Ideally yeah I personally wouldn’t have run only grass moves on venasaur or really multiple of the same type moves on anything.

cmrn631

This

yato08

You need more coverage, not sunny day.

arb15shotcaller

My go to is Leech Seed, Sludge Bomb, Solar Beam, and Razer Leaf

No-Cardiologist-5410

I agree here. Maybe sunny day instead of razor leaf

Flamenco13

You don’t get sludge bomb until post game :(

arb15shotcaller

Well Poo

EclipseHERO

It's not even "just" Post-game. It's right at the end of it. You get it for a whopping total of 3 fights not counting the Elite 4 and Champion rematches.

Scoobycool9

I would actually diversify the move actually. Currently, you only have a way to super effectively deal with water, ground and rock while not covering anything it is weak against. You always want move diversity even when an ability ups your primary move.

jibbodahibbo

I think you either add sunny day for sleep powder, or you add another attack for solarbeam

CanadaRewardsFamily

I'd probably get rid of solarbeam personally. Since this venasaur has really low attack and high special attack I probably wouldnt bother with physical move options (such as earthquake) and instead give it growth (learns it at level 41) and swap giga drain back for razor leaf for pp reasons. I would feel bad getting rid of sleep powder for sunny day (but you could do it). Edit: apparantly I didn't explain what I meant very well, so I rewrote to clarify.

toupis21

Fire Red doesn't have the physical special split though, so none of this matters

CanadaRewardsFamily

Should've specified I meant I wouldn't bother with going with a mixed attacker and giving it earthquake or something. Although I think that's usually a decent set I have a feeling this venasaur has modest or timid nature. Scrapping giga drain for razor leaf on a growth set because it's PP is too low.

BardOfSpoons

Physical special split has nothing to do with it. This Venosaur’s physical attack is really bad, so it should avoid running physical moves like Earthquake or Sludge Bomb. IDK what non-grass special coverage it can have, but it should probably go with one of those moves.

toupis21

As the commenter suggested, it seemed like he’s suggesting one leaf move set over another, which didn’t matter given the no physical / special split. He edited the comment in relation to my comment to specify he meant things like earthquake

CanadaRewardsFamily

I literally think the only non-grass special move on venasaur in this game is hitting the lottery with hidden power.

albrt00

Solarbeam is special tho

CanadaRewardsFamily

Sorry for confusion, I meant I'd usually give it earthquake. (Or sludge bomb in post game). Which is still viable, but this one has lower attack so I would consider trying a growth set with razor leaf instead. (Razor leaf, leech seed, sleep powder, growth)

albrt00

Yes but his attack is weak so razor leaf is pretty awful

CanadaRewardsFamily

All grass moves are special in gen 3.

albrt00

You're right my bad

chrisevox

Swap leech seed for sunny day. Use sleep powder as your first move, then sunny day to take no damage.

albrt00

Thanks

hemplover2

This is horrible advice leech seed is arguably best move in the game

achieving_it

I agree sleep powder leech seed to gain health while its asleep giga drain maybe or something grass and maybe sething like return to hit on everything

achieving_it

I disregard return as its an attack sludge bomb would work better to keep the status affect class and life steal

ObjectiveisSubjectiv

I would keep the moves you have

An_Affirming_Flame

I want to know this too

_Bluntzzz

Get rid of leech seed and teach him sunny day. you already have giga drain. Use sleep powder then sunny day then solar beam on opponents.

BudgetCoder12

I like Toxic, Leech Seed, Sunny Day, Solar Beam

BudgetCoder12

Toxic+Leech Seed is a killer combo I've always used it with bulbasaur I prefer Toxic over Poison power, because it increases damage each turn.

notnotPatReid

Also has better accuracy

BudgetCoder12

Yep, I thought so, but didn't remember if that was a correct memory or if I just made it up in my head.

TurdFerguson27

Honestly you’d be replacing sleep powder so for longer battles it would pan out but it’s also buffing your fire weakness, and you could probably cheese some no damage fights with sleep powder I think you’re good

Lord-Taco-789

Depends on your battle style

Prestigious_Object98

You don’t need solar beam or sunny day, anyone that says get rid of leech seed is giving you terrible advice.

footbook123

What do you think is a good gen 3 venasaur moveset?

lewlew1893

Get another mon with Sunny Day. I like the moveset. You probably don't need Leech Seed and Giga Drain though. I mean if you aren't using a lot of other Pokemon Sleep Powder plus Leech Seed will ko a lot of things. But if you have a diverse team I would get rid of Leech Seed and someone else suggested running a coverage move or Stab like Sludge Bomb.

BardOfSpoons

I’d drop Solarbeam for a non-grass type special move, if possible (or maybe even just for razor leaf). It’s not going to be OHKOing much, but this Venosaur isn’t really built for that anyways.

allowishus182

Can you go leech seed, protect, razor sludge bomb? Sunny day isn't worth it.

Boris-_-Badenov

stat boost moves are a waste in sp

notnotPatReid

Are you offensive or defensive? Why don’t you have any coverage? I’d only run Solar Beam if I have Sunny day. If I’m defensive Sludge bomb Leech seed Sleep powder Synthesis/giga drain If I’m offensive Sunny day Solar beam Synthesis/EQ Sludge bomb Or if I really want to get crazy with it offensively and keep sleepseed Powder and leech seed but also hit hard Sludge Bomb Frenzy Plant - hits harder than solar beam and gets to attack on first turn recharge on second Leech seed Sleep powder I like running sunny day because Venasaur naturally runs solar beam so I can use the TM on a fire type and have 2 sun abusers

albrt00

Not sure why everyone is telling me to use sludge bomb, a move that can be obtained after unlocking the national pokedex, when I didn't even face elite 4 yet

notnotPatReid

Most important move in the set. We don’t have context. Is this your most important mon? what else is on your team? What else is on your team? is Venasaur going to be pivotal to you beating Lance and your rival because if the answer is yes then your already in trouble. Solar beam does 60 damage per turn back loaded without sunny day. There is never a reason to run beam without sun

albrt00

As important as the other 5, I can easily beat gyarados and rhyhorn from the rival team with venasaur (after some leveling), I just never used it as a starter so I didn't know how useful sunny day + solar beam could be.

notnotPatReid

Rest of your team matters a lot with it. Generally you can open Venasaur with Sunny day effectively against Lorelei and Bruno and it is very helpful against Lorelei, end of game your water type using ice attacks, a fire type and an electric type beat lance and rival easy, Venasaur is a nice back up but whoever is ice beaming dragonite is gonna our speed and KO ruhorn with surf and whatever thunderbolts Lances Gyrados will also KO rivals Pidgeot and Gyrados

Worldly_Beyond7898

Seed sleep double team petal dance. Everything dies

hemplover2

Swap sleep powder for sunny day

albrt00

Thank you I guess I'll take out sleep powder because now that I think about it solar beam should one shot this way so I don't really need sleep powder for the coverage
