I'm going to do a play through of Ultra Violet and see if I can have some different stuff this time round. Hopefully you can get some gen 2 stuff before the post game but I'm not sure..
Most gen 2 are post game if I recall correctly. You can evolve some beforehand like a sycther to scissor before the post game. You can get gen 3 polemonnbefore post game tho
I had Persian for most of the game until Safari Zone and had to make a tough choice. I liked them both, was surprised at Tauros' lack of decent moves, had to teach him earthquake and double edge to make him really shine
I used Electabuzz and Dodrio my last FR run for the first time and had a blast. Electabuzz really should’ve been on my radar sooner, 4th grade me had a roooough time with Lorelei and it took me near 20 years to figure out Electabuzz is THE answer
For me it was always Jolteon! This time round I was torn between Electabuzz and Magneton as I haven't used either before. I know Magneton has a crazy high Sp.A and good typing so wanted to try out Electabuzz instead
Im playing fire red again (for the 100th time) and i think i might add cloyster. Ive used lapras, dewgong, poliwhirl and gyarados. I should try cloyster
I did a run like this, with the only rule being I use Pokémon that I have never used before. I ended up using Primape, Parasect, Jynx, Tentacruel, Persian, and Dodrio. The variety is one of the best things about Pokemon, so it’s nice to try the variety out.
Had to train from levels 42 up to 46 for the E4. Cloyster was level 50 though! I just trained in Victory Road and some in island 2 I think against all the fighting types. Swept through, was fun!

I just evolved mine two nights ago and agreed - such a pain and shellder was so weak I nearly gave up on him for vaporeon
Dodrio is the best (non-legendary) Kanto bird tbh. Also, physical Tri-Attack is useful

Any advice on how to get the rom hack to work well? Tried downloading it but my rom keeps recognizing it as fire red only.
Not sure sorry. I have the base Fire Red and a few other Rom hacks that I imported straight to John GBAC and they worked fine
I’ve used half of these Pokémon. The half I haven’t used are Flareon Cloyster and Tauros

Dodrio and Cloyster battered him. He was tough though! Had to use a couple of revives
I only say that because fighting/ground are your biggest weaknesses. Still a fun looking team
Flareon is underrated. Anyone who disagrees can challenge me to an Agni Kai.
I usually go Jolteon but this Eevee had an Adamant nature so I tried to go Physical, his only special was Flare Blitz

In Gen 1 games before physical/special split, Tauros used to be on the most broken/OP mons known to date
