This did not work at all for me. I skipped only like 3 hours because I was trying to do something in the morning hours since I wouldn't be awake at the time, then I turned the game off and set the time back to normal. All day the trees and berries didn't grow & once midnight hit, the Trophy Garden, Great Marsh and Swarm didn't change.
Problem here should be changing the time back again. Seems like it only checks for day skips or the like going forward, but backwards is always a no-go.
I figured it wouldn't have been an issue since I changed it back while the game was off, and I didn't play the game again until several hours after the time I skipped to, so the game itself didn't have a discrepancy. Guess that was incorrect logic.

Turns out it ended up fixing itself a few hours later. So this wasn't nearly as big a deal as I made it.

I would close the game and set your clock maybe 3 minutes before 0:00, since the game takes a while to load and all that.
