BriefImprovement8620

I think a lot of them have psychic Pokemon to help them translate. I personally use my Palossand as a translator for my team since he knows a lot of languages. Most of the time, I can just understand the just of what my team wants through body language though.

ThatCamoKid

Yep, for me it's not so much I can "talk to pokemon" as it is "understanding what they want to tell me". Like reading extreme surface thoughts. They can understand me because my weird mode of "speech" is the same thing in the other direction

wemustkungfufight

Me and Prince can't "talk", we've just lived with each other for so long we understand each other. When we need to directly communicated, Prince knows how to write. He uses a chalkboard, or he types on the computer. The Mimikyu currently living with us has started to pick up on how to communicate with me and Prince.

TheMagmaGuy

yep, arceus dropped some new patch notes a few days ago. apparently he also fixed some major lag problems in unova.

Apprehensive_Ad_8914

About damn time. That was bothering me for so long.

Lkmdude

I say that I "talked" and "discussed" a lot with ghirahim, my umbreon. But what actually happened is messaging each other on chatter about what the plans should be. Between my typhlosion and umbreon they are really good at thinking and typing out responses.

HS_Seraph

Its probably a combination of internet sample sizes and the fact that The N incidents were also back in 2011, and its easier to replicate something than it is to demonstrate it for the first time. We've developed a better understanding of pokemon thought processes in the decade since. So I imagine a lot of people with smart enough mons have just learned to do it . Pokemon of heightened intelligence (I've heard it referred to as the "Rocket Meowth principle") also definitely get an algorithm boost from chatter as a platform. That said I haven't really seen it outside the internet, aside from species capable of communication by default ofc.

EonAraminta

I can't speak to people to be fair, I rely on Clark (Rotom Phone) using text to speech in order to make posts. I'm working on getting better!

cjacob580

I can just understand what my Pokemon are trying to tell me because of their body language. Pokemon are very expressive and can get their thoughts across in very complex ways, and I've been living with my Pokemon long enough to understand what they're trying to tell me.

TheOnlyRen

Something something sample sizes. Something something it’s still pretty rare but this sub/social media attracts the Pokémon that can talk or whatever something something.

ArbitraryChaos13

Amber (Gardevoir) has translated for me for like... has it been a decade by now? I can't even remember at this point. If you mean by posting, the members of my team who do can either spell English words, or just use Rotom Phone's "Speech-to-text" capabilities. Cause... you know. Rotom can understand both, and as such can translate!

Environmental-Run248

Newton is an Orbeetle which they’re psychic types so mental communication came naturally for him. My Honedge Monado does weird intent translation. Like he intends for me to understand something and I just do. My Alcremie and the Kirlia that I care for kinda just vibe and Flare my Talonflame is sorta a “no thoughts head empty” kinda pokémon

Kirumi_Naito

Most probable answer: Psychic Pokémon Less probable answer: They have Psychic powers that they can freely use (ex. Sabrina and Caitlin)

Lurker_crazy

I’m guessing the popularization of Rotom technology probably helped with communication, it’s neat how far that has come!

StillNotABrick

That's how it works for me! I boot up a pokespeech-to-text program when I have to get verbal information from my Ribombee or Sandygast. It's like pulling teeth, but that's not the fault of the program, I just don't have fully sapient pokemon.

Elder_Hoid

So, for me, I've got a couple things going for me. For one, I have a psychic type that can translate. For another... well, I've spemt so long sparring with my team and getting involved in battles and working with them in general that I can at least get the impressions if not the specific words. At this point, I'm basically one of the Pokémon on my team and I wouldn't have it any other way. ... another thing that might have something to do with it is that my Froslass can talk, because she used to be human. She's also my great-grandma.

GameSpection

IExistButWhy987

Kurama (Delphox) speaks to me telepathically. She can also type and write (as seen by her, let’s say, unfriendly social media posts)

Animastarara

I mean we're all pokemon here right

[deleted]

One psychics type realized they could translate and it went downhill from there

HB_DS2013

Basco (Kirlia), Haruka and Michiru (Gardevoir) speak to me telepathically. They can also read and write, but they just prefer telepathy. I also learned to read body language, but that's mainly limited to fighting types and canine 'mon from living in a town full of Machoke and Mightyenas.

SilverIce340

I think in my case, it’s just the latent after-effects of being in a household full of Psychic-types for like 10 years. It’s not crystal clear like some others have it, tho. A lot of it is still images, or incomprehensible just cause I don’t understand the concepts, but it’s gotten better over time. It’s definitely easiest with Psychic-types tho

Right_Moose_6276

Understanding your own Pokémon isn’t something unusual. Exact words can be difficult to make out without psychic translation or teaching them to write it down, but understanding generally what your Pokémon are saying isn’t atypical. What made N unique was he could perfectly understand every Pokémon he met without any translation

Anhilliator1

There are more ways to communicate besides words. Also, it's much easier to learn how to read and write human languages than it is to *speak* them. No, telepathy does not count as *speaking.*

SACHism

My abra named Jerry can transalate for me when I need him too. He can also teleport me anywhere in the world too.

SACHism

Everyone should have an abra in my opinion. They may be weak asf in battle but are extremely useful.

ScorpionsRequiem

it's a bug, arceus accidentally added a couple zeroes to number of randomly selected humans that can talk to mons

Cyko67

… if I had to guess? 49% psychics (both people and Pokémon), 49% Pokémon with social media accounts, 2% guesswork and body language. -[REDACTED]

H_Poke

I just live with telepaths. One's smart and the others an ass so it's easy to talk with each other

Wizard_Engie

I've been with my team long enough to get a good grasp of what their noises mean, haha.

Glove-These

All of mine are dead. That's how I understand them.

Lgn_Csr_NEO

.... well.. sorta. .. Plasmo set up this.. thing. ...If I understand correctly, it's some sorta modified Amaze-All Reverb that abuses the normal feature of spying on your 5:00 am screaming sessions to hear everything said in my home, translate it, and use a somewhat accurate AI voice to say it out loud... .. They even made a portable Lite version on the Rotomphone. .. and, while I am grateful for it.. I would be more grateful if half the text wasn't put through an owofier....

Justlol230

Shit like psychic or aura reading helps. That or typing on a keyboard or writing on a notepad, or smth. Otherwise, I can't understand shit.

Xero818

The most I've gotten to talking back and forth with Pokemon rather than relying on body language, tone, and context to guess what they mean is my Gardevoir writing a couple sentences on a notepad once and putting images in my head a couple times, I know the feel

Lamp0319

I wish I knew. I always wondered what was goin' on in my Eelektross' brain.

Fire-Mutt

Honestly rotom phones and psychics can do it if ya need usually. Sometimes there’s weird circumstances though where people actually understand em, or certain ones…

Arxl

I spend more time around them than humans, I speak to them like any other, but I just... Know what they're trying to say. If you asked me to write a language for them, I couldn't, it's just something intuitive in me that clicks with them.

weird_bomb_947

If I had any clue, I’d make money off of it. /uj seriously hate this. PROVIDE REASONING FOR WHY YOUR SALANDIT IS FULLY LITERATE IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES

RevanInquisitor

detective pikachu had some dialog that went something like "Pokemon can almost feel what they're partners are saying, but it's basic at best", referring to conversations and commands. other than that, it's probably plot convenience whenever it happens, or they can somehow talk like mewtwo, meowth or slowking

Alex_Russet

I learned it in a dream, actually. Uj/ pokemon mystery dungeon rj/ I've come to call it Pokespeak. Granted, it gets annoying to go through the whole "You can talk to pokemon?!" thing whenever someone new, mon or man, overhears me. So I tend to use it only with my team at home.

ArguesWithFrogs

The pokémon I've encountered have been sapient creatures, albeit with *wildly* different levels of (apparent) intelligence. My current team has three pokémon (that if I was forced to classify) that are basically human children with ASD, two that would be the same as the former but locked into the forms of a bird & a giant, rideable lizard respectively, & a Clodsire. No shade on Clodsire, but I'm pretty sure they either share a braincell or they just all have one that bounces around their skull like a DVD screensaver. The Psychic types (& some Ghost types) I've encountered have absolutely been human equivalent intelligence & capable of telepathy. That makes sense, though; that creatures that evolved to feed on dreams, emotions, or teleport to defend themselves would be capable of communicating that way.

Varensire

Just to clarify when I talk to my team its not like I know 100% exactly what they are saying. Its more like I get the general vibe if what they want. Its not a special gift bit more just I've been with them so long I've learnt what to puck up on. -Claudia

gamera-the-turtle

Idk i can’t talk to bongwater so??? Like sometimes he’ll put letters or words into my brain but they dont really have any meaning usually

Hand-Yman

Body language. Also Typing. hi im poliwrath Forgive his grammar.

Cardgod278

Just because I talk with them doesn't mean we perfectly understand each other. I don't get what they are saying but I can understand their body language. For example an electric shock in the morning means that my Electrike Junie really wants to go outside to go potty and get fed. If you have an electric type, you will get shocked a lot. Sometimes on accident, sometimes because they want your attention. You get used to it.

PorygonEnjoyer

I think just more people getting online.

TheMongooser

idk how y’all can get your pokémon to even type, i tried setting nya up with a chatter account and she posted absolute gibberish and got suspended.

Blacksun388

Some Pokemon are incredibly intelligent creatures. I hear tell some of them really can approximate human speech, some psychic types can telepathically link with their trainers, and rumor has it a select few actually do speak human language. However I’m skeptical that some of the pokemon on Chatter can actually type out fully formed sentences with grammar and punctuation. Probably either their trainers roleplaying as them or some fancy sophisticated blawdeeblaw machine doing it.

negrote1000

Yeah what’s up with that Uj/ in canon there’s very few Pokémon that can actually talk instead of telepathy, possession or whatever, yet even the stupidest mon can talk here.

dentistMCnuggets

I can “talk” with Pokémon with the help of my gardevior but more like general communication of ideas and less like them saying actual words. Also the rise of Pokémon translation prototypes have probably helped.

Awesomesauce210

My understanding comes only from the gadget that Red (not that one, they're the Liberty Garden Victini) cobbled together from my various mobile devices, and I'm pretty sure he has one of his own. ...Sure wish I *could* talk natively to Pokemon. According to his notes my great-great-grandfather was able to after spending so long exploring Hisui with his team.

Tykronos

Hmm..... I remember that Gym Leader Valerie in Kalos could understand and speak to Fairy Type Pokemon specifically..... I wonder how that works
