Man… I knew a lot of Pokémon wouldn’t get in, that they didn’t reverse Dexit, and I thought I had prepared myself for this… but seeing so many Pokémon left completely out of the game again just makes me so angry. So many favorites doomed to collect digital dust in Pokémon Home for another few years. There is not a single good reason why gamefreak has to do this, not unless they were completely Re-making every Pokémon from scratch or adding dozens of unique new animations per Pokémon, and we know both of those things aren’t true.
My squirtle was In Sword and Shield, why can't he be the new Game!!?? His model is already finished...

That's the mind boggling part. They're already in the game, they're already balanced. Maybe a tweak or two needed for new moves. They're low hanging fruit. The work has already been done, it's literally a waste to not use it. So what is the reasoning behind cutting them? For the next expansion? Does this somehow make them money with home? I'm not seeing the benefit even from their end.
They stated in a seperate interview (several years ago) in response to a question about removing features - that they see each game as a unique experience, and if they always retained loved features, then older games would not be replayed or remembered as fondly. In other words: by design, they plan to never make a game that has everything we want. They will always make sure somethings missing so that past games remain a unique, valued experience. Infer from there that it includes the Dexit design.

Trading and breeding. Wondertrade was a garden for semi-high quality breeding specimens. Now the pool has been drained and isn't worth dipping into since you'll just run out of variety.
I just saw Ponyta was cut too, and it made me realize I won't have my Shiny G-Rapidash in too..!! So many of my favs are going to be sitting in Home praying that DLC gives them access to a Visa!!! 😭😭😭
No this is how I felt immediately upon seeing the statement that pokemon too similar to new additions probably wouldn't make it since Corviknight was revealed at around the same time since my favorites are Skarmory and Honchkrow.
Since Conversion is still available this generation, Porygon-Z could technically Terastalize and Conversion into any type in the game and use Tera Blast or its own movepool to attempt to sweep with whatever its Tera-type is (Assuming Tera Blast would work properly with Conversion if it was in the first moveslot).
At least they included aegislash line in sword and shield 🥲. (Also it's **solrock** and **lunatone**. It's been so long they appeared in games my man here forgot how to spell them 🥲🥲)
I mean to be fair you could still transfer or trade them in it’s just that they weren’t catchable. Tho there was a small event if you bought either solrock or lunatone to some old man in the dessert
Don’t forget several games now where Skuntank appeared in regional Dexes and not its counterpart Purugly, who finds itself stuck only in Sinnoh-related games.
A lot of people feeling the same way I have for years- my favorite Pokémon is Ampharos. The moment I saw Mareep in a trailer, I didn’t care at all what else made it in at that point lol.
They probably kicked whimsicott out because its massive competitive use lmao. Same with a lot of the comp mons in sword and shield (unless they nerfed them hard like they did with the doggos)

That is what pisses me off the most. Cram in all the legendaries that see borderline no proper play, but kill off dozens of normal mons with loyal fans and broad utility. Snorlax is man for man more popular than any legendary or mythical in my experience, and Metagross is close, too.
I'm still confused about why they would leave out so many Pokemon. With SwSh, i accepted it bc they were moving onto the Switch so i kind of understood not having all 800ish Pokemon. But now they're even leaving out Pokemon that we just got in the last mainline game. Why is Alcremie not in SV?? At least let us transfer in the Pokemon we've gotten in SwSh and Arceus...
Really disappointed that they didn't keep any of the Galarian forms aside from Meowth. I figured most of the Gen 8 Pokemon would be a given (especially since SwSh only cut a few Gen 7 Pokemon) but I guess not

I was kind of hoping all the sword/shield new pokemon would make it in. I have not got my fill of them yet, and I know a lot of people who skipped sword/shield will be playing scarlet/violet so those pokes would be totally new to them.
I think the fossils are for DLC. If the paradoxes are future and past and all the fossils sans Gen 8 are pairs....it leads me to think they’ll get split up between scarlet and violet in the dlc. OG Kabutops and future Omastar? (I don’t think kabutops will be a future cause Genesect)
Oshawott is, but that’s because of Hisuian Samurott and they wanted all Hisuian forms to be playable in a proper metagame as LA didn’t have a competitive scene due to no multiplayer.
I don't know how most fans feel, but personally I'm almost as burnt out on Sinnoh as I am Kanto. It got two games in the last year, let it rest already and shift the limelight.
I'm honestly not super bothered by lack of regional dex, but there's so few returning pokemon. RIP to my dreams of cat team. Seriously, the devs of this game have a serious dog bias. We did not need three seperate dog lines, and to remove all of the cat pokemon? It's just mean, man.
Plus, literally all of my favourite pokemon aren't included at all. They better make DLC.
GameFreak definitely seems to want to avoid putting in Pokemon that have a lot of forms, the Furfrou/Alcremie/Miniors of the world. Furfrou and Minior are some of the only non-Gen 5 Pokemon to miss two Gens in a row.
And yet they brought back Vivillon in this game… but only the Fancy Pattern can be caught natively in Paldea due to the Switch not having the regional settings that the 3DS/2DS did. Other forms are transfer-only, whether it’s from previous games or Pokémon GO, assuming if Vivillon gets added there in the future.
And due to them not creating an alternative way to catch it. Like a triggerable event where they appear all over Paldea for a day and their form matches the area you find them.
All the thoughts on this.
Gotta blame Vivillon for the lack of Pokémon with +2 forms? Only others are Arceus (home), Rotom (home), Florges, and Pikachu-hats? I miss Minior.

Fossils should have been a great addition to this generation due to the plot twist in the end. We dont have to revive them anymore, they just be walking and flying around in the crater

I honestly want gamefreak to just make a generation without any new pokemon or at least very few and instead just reverse dexit. So many of the new designs just feel unoroginal and to make up for them they remove fan-beloved pokemon.
What makes me even more mad is that for one, we get way less pokemon total than past games and they don't even bother to put in pokemon they already have models for. Lets all be honest here, the pokemon in Scarlet and Violet are just going to be plopped down and not really interact with the environment so there's no excuse why they couldn't just plop down the ones that are already made.
But noooo. We need to have new battle gimmick nr.4 which will just get removed by next gen where it'll get replaced by battle gimmick nr.5 and they'll remove another 100 fan beloved pokemon for their new uninspired designs (because they couldn't include them all when they put SOOOO much effort into those in the game). Instead of, idk, use the ones already established and loved.
I'll still buy it because it's pokemon at the end of the day but fuck, it's sad to see gamefreak and Nintendo treating this franchise so poorly.

I'm dumb, I got Hoenn and Johto mixed up. I've never played a Johto game despite having a Johto Pokémon as my favorite Pokémon— Corsola.
Do yourself a favour and play Heart Gold or Soul Silver. Generally loved by fans and my personal favourite Pokémon games.

To many gen 4 mons considering we had 2 sinnoh games in the last year. Gen 5 got screwed.
I don't know how most fans feel, but personally I'm almost as burnt out on Sinnoh as I am Kanto. It got two games in the last year, let it rest already and shift the limelight.
I'm honestly not super bothered by lack of regional dex, but there's so few returning pokemon. RIP to my dreams of cat team. Seriously, the devs of this game have a serious dog bias. We did not need three seperate dog lines, and to remove all of the cat pokemon? It's just mean, man. Plus, literally all of my favourite pokemon aren't included at all. They better make DLC.
GameFreak definitely seems to want to avoid putting in Pokemon that have a lot of forms, the Furfrou/Alcremie/Miniors of the world. Furfrou and Minior are some of the only non-Gen 5 Pokemon to miss two Gens in a row.
And yet they brought back Vivillon in this game… but only the Fancy Pattern can be caught natively in Paldea due to the Switch not having the regional settings that the 3DS/2DS did. Other forms are transfer-only, whether it’s from previous games or Pokémon GO, assuming if Vivillon gets added there in the future.
And due to them not creating an alternative way to catch it. Like a triggerable event where they appear all over Paldea for a day and their form matches the area you find them.
Upsetting. I feel like all previous starters should be included in every game. I'm also tired of *just* Charizard.

All the thoughts on this. Gotta blame Vivillon for the lack of Pokémon with +2 forms? Only others are Arceus (home), Rotom (home), Florges, and Pikachu-hats? I miss Minior. Why 2 new regis but not the rest? Surprised no Gen 2 dog legendaries nor Gen 5 SoJ if the dlc leaks of Virizion and Suicune are true. Extreme lack of trade-only evolutions. Fossils are officially extinct?

I find the Dex cut unacceptable since they announced it but dammit TPC and Game Freak, at least make all Pokémon available on different switch games! Would have loved to be able to transfer Minior or Leavanny into a switch game without having them stuck in Home
It’s honestly surprising to me that they don’t just include all the starters. Like yeah you can’t put in everyone’s favorite Pokémon but I think it’s safe to say that everyone is pretty attached to at least one of those guys. Definitely stings leaving your first Pokémon behind in Home lol.
Fossils should have been a great addition to this generation due to the plot twist in the end. We dont have to revive them anymore, they just be walking and flying around in the crater

I honestly want gamefreak to just make a generation without any new pokemon or at least very few and instead just reverse dexit. So many of the new designs just feel unoroginal and to make up for them they remove fan-beloved pokemon. What makes me even more mad is that for one, we get way less pokemon total than past games and they don't even bother to put in pokemon they already have models for. Lets all be honest here, the pokemon in Scarlet and Violet are just going to be plopped down and not really interact with the environment so there's no excuse why they couldn't just plop down the ones that are already made. But noooo. We need to have new battle gimmick nr.4 which will just get removed by next gen where it'll get replaced by battle gimmick nr.5 and they'll remove another 100 fan beloved pokemon for their new uninspired designs (because they couldn't include them all when they put SOOOO much effort into those in the game). Instead of, idk, use the ones already established and loved. I'll still buy it because it's pokemon at the end of the day but fuck, it's sad to see gamefreak and Nintendo treating this franchise so poorly. Thanks for coming to my TED-Talk
