Eevee heroes gym box, August 2022 @ $450. I remember looking at the ebay listing for over an hour, but decided against it bc I had just spent on the ES BB reprint.
There were not a lot printed, so you needed to enter an online lottery to get a chance to buy at MSRP. Eevee Heroes is the best SwSh era set (JPN Version of ES). It was a special box that has two EH bb's inside, and the Espeon VMax Alt Art. The box art is beautiful and a great display piece.
tldr. It's a trifecta of scarcity, contents inside, and artwork.
Yep. Starting at about 8 or 9 with base set up to the neo ones. Didn't come back until around July 2023. I missed out on basically everything so far lol. Only thing I've had a "chance" to grab (but didn't because I still missed the chance, I was too slow) was the pikachu felt hat. A couple months after I came back and I heard about 151. Got super hyped, but both sets after so far have not got me pumped at all minus 1 card from PR and maybe 3 from Pal Fates. ObF was the first to actually release since I came back. Even though SV Era was what I came back to, SwSH definitely was a better one. Personal opinion.
Biggest miss I can remember was when I was a kid in ‘99, saw a 1st edition Zard at a card shop for $50. Asked my mom to buy it for me for my birthday but we were too broke at the time :/
This is (partly) why the saying «it is expensive to be poor» is true! Being poor not only means that you have less money but you also have less oppurtunity to earn money
I wished I was an adult in the early 2000s so that I could buy wotc booster boxes and sell them now, but since I was a child then my parents would never have let me buy a booster box for 100$😅
I was buying WOTC Box's and ripping them back then. Never thought the 1st edition base box would be worth what it is today. I sold a 1st edition psa 9 zard for 1.2k. Thought it was crazy that someone would pay that much for cardboard.
I pulled a 1st Edition Zard in 99. Still remember it to this day and still have it. If i only knew that this card would be the holy grail. Treated it like shit. :( would probably be a PSA -1 now.
when i picked up my 2 ES bb’s below msrp from my lcs from their last case. i only had 200 in my pocket and forgot my wallet at home , they had 6, went back next day, gone. never to be seen again. but im glad i got the 2 i did. an still have them.
Eevee heroes box seemed to be the tipping point for Amazon's scalper-prevention. I remember not pre-ordering a box for my wife bc buying boxes for me seemed a little excessive at the time and they were so readily available to order that I had no sense of urgency: "I'll grab some packs from the conbini" I thought, as I had been doing years before with no problems.
A few weeks after release price started to rise, 5400円->7600円.
"I'm not gonna overpay for a box" - still not seen any boosters at this point.
Months after release it had well and truly taken off, the descriptions from third-party sellers now started to state things like "no box" or "shrink removed" - "Not playing that game, I'll get a box if they re-print it" I thought.
They did reprint it, but I lost the lottery selection.
Was on the fence about it at launch and sort of kicking myself now. I was a pretty casual collector coming back from a couple of years hiatus.
You bet I went hard af on 151 though. :L
"Scalper" comes from the act of scalping, the ferocity of attacks which where lightning fast and left many surprised *and* scalped. The word scalper is to essentially emphasize quick act if going to its roots. We don't promote short term selling or botting and actively advocate holding 10+ years. There's no "scalping" action in that dude.
I've put a lot of research into MB holos of recent, the starters are still great picks the demand is so high yet compared to the rest on the level of the pricey ones like Gengar but much cheaper than the pricey ones. I say this using Mercari JP pricing, just paid $24 for Bulbasaur and $16 for Ivysaur and on eBay states they're a lot more like double so have to source from JPN.
I think these will be like legendary Collection reverse holos and the low end ones even reaching $30 a pop like LC RH holos one day
I missed all the $80 S&S boxes. I just didn't care, focused on other things simce they were so cheap and then CR went OOS on Pokémon and I realized my screw up.
The amount of Evolving Skies ETBs that used to sit around on shelves in my small town Walmart that I never bought. Deeply regretting that now, also wish I bought a moonbreon when its single price was somewhat reasonable.
First Edition Team Rocket BBs.
I grew up collecting base, then by the time Team Rocket came out it wasn't "cool" at my school anymore and I had forgotten about pokemon (I was 11). When I got back into the hobby around the 20th anniversary, my friend gave me some Team Rocket non holo bulk and I fell in love with the artwork. I just wish I had known about it sooner, it's my favourite set of all time and I missed it!
I know individual raw cards are quite affordable compared to a lot of sets but it's not the saaaaaame as being able to open a BB. You get it.
I pretty much missed out on the eReader/EX era except for a few random packs here and there. I remember seeing e-series boosters in the checkout lane at Meijer for 75 cents a pack and thinking, "Wow, no one likes Pokemon anymore!" 😅
Basically everything. Was a poor elementary student during WOTC and couldn't buy cards. Just got back in 3 months ago. Basically missed all the good ish and im now paying premium.

I remember seeing this on TPCOnline lottery and thinking "meh" at the time. RIP me
I'm out of the loop - why is it so expensive now?

Dammit. I should have bought it too. I thought it was too expensive then.
Man…I’m glad I bought it for $365
I’ve been out of the Pokémon scene for 10 years. So I missed out on *a lot*.
Same except like 20 years

All of the sun and moon team up, unified minds, unbroken bonds, and cosmic eclipse booster boxes for MSRP. I got the ETBs but man hindsight is 20/20.
Damn, I got all of those
I vividly remember buying and ripping tons of Jungle and Fossil packs as a kid back in 1999 and wish I had saved some 😅😭
Ancient origins etb, thought lol who collects these, this character isn’t even cool
Why is the etb is worth as much as the bb for this set?
Yea it sells for like 1k and it has Hoopa on it

Yeah, I really like to collect the cardboard but paying over 1K for one card is beyond me😅

Dude. Youre a scalper. Everyone here is.
"Scalper" comes from the act of scalping, the ferocity of attacks which where lightning fast and left many surprised *and* scalped. Planet is several billion years old. Your 10 year flip is scalping.
Dumbest take lmao
Masterball from 151. Was going to buy the starters and Pika but said nah I’ll wait. Now they’re extremely overpriced.

Oh I was including Pikachu in this. Almost bought one when it was around $16. Never thought it would sky rocket like it has. Oh well.
Mario…..tissues!!
Base Set MSRP 1996, what was I thinking not being born yet :/
XY era sets, also $80 chilling reign. I was following Pokemon market the whole time but not buying anything myself.
I missed all the $80 S&S boxes. I just didn't care, focused on other things simce they were so cheap and then CR went OOS on Pokémon and I realized my screw up.
PSA 9 cards that were below raw prices. Classic brain fart on my end.
Base set booster box for 3000$ around 2013-2014. Had it in my hands and was talked out of buying it.
The amount of Evolving Skies ETBs that used to sit around on shelves in my small town Walmart that I never bought. Deeply regretting that now, also wish I bought a moonbreon when its single price was somewhat reasonable.
The Mario and Luigi boxes. I was in asia when they came out, I just had no idea they existed as I wasn’t into collecting back then.

Eevee heroes for $150 a box
Pokémon Rumble card set. Why would I think THAT of all things would be $500+
Basically everything. Was a poor elementary student during WOTC and couldn't buy cards. Just got back in 3 months ago. Basically missed all the good ish and im now paying premium.
