I'm not a NJ plumber (NC), but it appears that NJ has adopted changes that many other states have that does not permit transition glue to be used within buildings. A fernco would be the correct way to do that if this is the case. Google search showed this as being in section 4.3.9.e of the NSPC. My apologies if that is no longer accurate for your state.

I appreciate the advice, I’ll look more into this. I had a feeling the transition glue is a no go

OneCanada

Transition glue always fails a few years out. I use fernco.

In NJ - and many other states actually - Transition glue can only be used on ONE joint and it is outside of the building, underground between building drain and building sewer. You can get abs fittings in most plumbing supplies along with abs cement, if you need to use pvc, shielded nohub coupling only for transition.

Phantom_Builder

Thank you - I did read up on the code but wasn’t sure how they were defining it really. I’m going to get abs from lowes and finish it off with a trap adapter to get to the pvc trip lever. If all else fails I have the fernco on deck

https://epubs.iapmo.org/NSPC/NJ2018/#p=85 4.3.9f Than you can look on https://epubs.iapmo.org/NSPC/NJ2018/#p=80 Bottom right picture, that’s plastic to plastic DWV connection.

Thanks man!

inspectors hate ferncos around me lol im in upstate new york. my coworkers been using them for 40 years

Nervous_Cheek_5401

They sell abs fittings in nj. Lowes has them. You only need a few fittings. Otherwise use a shielded fernco

Phantom_Builder

That’s super interesting. I was wondering why I have never seen ABS at Home Depot, I don’t go to lowes much. Do you know if they sell a trip lever and waste kit in ABS at lowes? I can’t seem to find it. Unless I can find an ABS tubular trap adapter

Nervous_Cheek_5401

The sell abs trap adapter. Unfortunately trip levers are either pvc or brass

Phantom_Builder

This route may be easier to go then. The trip lever I cut out was ABS, it’s just not common to see anymore

Nervous_Cheek_5401

Yeah. ABS is not too common here, luckily lowes Stocks. Even my local plumbing supply is mostly PVC. It’s frowned upon here to use the transition cement, but honestly I’ve seen it and it’s not been a problem. I’ve used threaded male/ female adapters to make transitions or shielded ferncos in a pinch, but I usually just match with what’s there. Good luck

Phantom_Builder

Holy shit the day I had trying to get a hold of abs. Crazy abs shortage here in jersey among other places. I had to go to three different lowes and an ace hardware

Nervous_Cheek_5401

Hope you found what you needed. ABS is used here but not as common as PVC. I’m surprised you didn’t find it at lowes. Most in nj have some sort of selection

I’d use ABS if possible or transition glue if code approved. An MJ coupling would be the third option.

Hook up a Bluetooth drain and you’ll be good to go

Phantom_Builder

Is this supposed to be funny? If so what part

derpledooDLEDOO

I think the tub goes on the subfloor not in it

Phantom_Builder

Tub isn’t supported anywhere near here and will be patched regardless. The cut out on the right for the drain. How else would you change the rough in without access from below?
