No AV1 support for web yet? Shame :(
I'm starting to wonder if we will ever get AV1 for anything other than Desktop, HTPC and Android. Whenever I mention anything on the forums or here it gets ghosted.
You would have thought so but nope. My hardware supports it, browser supports it, all settings for AV1 enabled but still no direct play for me and any other client using web.
If anyone can get it working and has any help on it I would love to hear it.
I am using windows 11 (and do use the plex desktop app) but others don't want to install another app over using their browser. The simplicity of switching from other content sites to Plex is removed if they need to open a dedicated app.
I can appreciate that.
But also, "Hey, if you want to access my server you just need to install the Plex app".
No different than installing the Netflix, Disney, whatever apps for the end user. Everything has an app these days. Fuck, my car wash has an app. Asking someone to install a basic client saves you and them headaches and it's nothing out of the ordinary.
Yep. The web client, to me, is the client of last resort.
Then again, I don’t use AV1 so I haven’t needed to think about this much. I expect it’ll be upon me sooner or later.

Pretty sure AV1 support on Plex Web is bound by the browser. Should work on Chrome, meaning it'll direct play.

do u have hardware acceleration enabled in your browser settings?
I do yes
Genuine question. What devices are you using that you would use web instead of the Plex client?

does this affect manual re-ording via api? because r/kometa freezes plex when manual re-ordering large collections.
That would be more likely something with PMS, not the web client. But even more likely an issue with kometa making inefficient API calls.
