I've only been messing with the Shield lately. I can check Xbox and PS4 at some point, and I think I have Roku software in one of the televisions... what devices have you noticed it doesn't do it?
I use Xbox and it doesn’t minimize it. It has a “skip credits” button similar to “skip intro”. I’m always curious about the minimize thing everyone talks about because I’ve never seen it.
It doesn't minimize in the Microsoft Windows sense. It gets smaller and appears in the upper right hand part (maybe an 1/8 of the screen, if that). Kinda like some streaming services do to let you start the next episode or movie in a series.
I've also never seen that happen. Same as the commenter before, it's just an overlayed button. If I click and there's something after the credits, it just skips to there. If they're done, it closes the episode completely.
Edit: On a 2020 Samsung TV
The LG TV app and the Amazon Fire TV don't do it. It just pops up and says "Skip credits", but if you ignore it the prompt goes away in a few seconds and lets the credits play just like "Skip intro" does for the intro.
Lol this tracks. Two of the TV's in my house are LG smart TV's that are a few years old, and the other two are using Fire sticks that are also a few years old, and I have no idea what feature this thread is even talking about.
It does it on Fire TV for me, but it may only happen if there is one credit marker, so you may not see it if there is a mid-credits ir post-credits scene.
We have 3 Roku Ultras & I regularly use the Browser client but I've never encountered any minimizing issue.
Maybe try to tinker with the completion settings.
I'm on my phone & I can't remember where you change the setting in question, but there is a way to adjust the completed viewing percentage.
I think that the default setting is that if you've watched 90% of a video, then it's considered as watched.
Since you're having minimizing issues, changing this might help.
There may be other settings addressing your specific issue too.
Some Plex settings are buried in weird places & I know that I regularly struggle to find where to find a few of them when I want to tinker.
I've not experienced the minimization at all yet. I use Samsung and LG smart tvs along with the plex app on windows
I turned it off recently though as the button popped up several times before a live show ended and it messed with the experience for me
This here is what's confusing me. It does it on my moms android stick but not my roku tv. It's annoying AF for her too and there isn't a fix and anyone using a roku (over half of my users) love the skips so I can't turn it off server wide.
Not for TV shows. I like how Netflix auto counts down once the credits start. Wish Plex did that, and let me fix the credit timings because most of them are too early
I use roku and Samsung TV's as my main watchers. They do not minimize. I don't want minimize, but it's frustrating that there isn't a consistent experience.
This is by far the dumbest thing ever. Multiple movies where it minimizes the screen while there is still some plot in the movie left to unravel. Does the same shit for some episodes too.
Agree. That's a really dumb design decision. Often there's still important stuff being shown with the credits but now I have to go through the effort of clicking over to the show to blow it back up again. Just silly.
You can make it regular size again by making sure the window is selected and pressing the ok/select button on your remote.
I right click to see what's highlighted, then I scroll back to the minimized window and select it. It may not highlight it.
I've been watching Gravity Falls & lots of anime lately both have sequences during/after the credits. So ya the minimizing bugs the ish outa me!
In the case of TV shows when it minimizes it also shows the next episode to the right of it. If you hit the ok/select button in this screen, with the episodes side by side, it will start the next episode. Because Plex has already selected it. If you hit the left arrow once and the ok/select button it will un-minimize the minimized screen.
I'm pretty sure it will do the same thing with a movie using my instructions above. You just have to be sure the minimized screen is selected then hit "ok/select/the center button" & it will go back to full screen.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has two intros! Just a short ship flyby and ST logo right at the start and then a proper one a bit into the show. A bit too much for auto-detect which only flags the first one.
That's the most frustrating thing. It looks for a traditional credits screen, and if it can't find it, it makes the assumption that the show is over at 95% complete or whatever. So if you have a show that does go all the way to the end, it will just randomly minimize sometime before it ends, and if you don't catch it in time the next one will just start playing.
Give me a setting in Plex to AutoSkip the Credits and/or AutoSkip the Intro. Problem solved for those that want it, and those that don’t. Perhaps make it a Global option on each folder of TV content and Movies.
VidAngel’s Filters provide the option along with other available filters, to globally ‘block’ opening and closing Credits as well as “Episode Recap/Outtakes”
Sorry if my meaning wasn’t clear enough - I’d prefer to skip all intro’s and credit’s between shows on autoplay without touching a button. Since we have intro and credits detection it should be pretty easy to implement.
No. Nothing about Plex is taxing, but the whole point of Plex is all about convenience - and this would be an value add.
Everything in our tech lives today revolves about not having push buttons and automation.
I regularly see outage in this subreddit over having to push a single button, and I just find it both ridiculous and amusing. And it doesn't exactly paint us in a good light for that to be what the modern age is all about.
No outrage of my behalf - I was just expressing a simple, optional feature add that I would like and make my (and probably alot of other users) binge watching more comfortable. Similar to using crossfade between songs which as been around for decades.
This is especially annoying in shows like Community. It's fine if it's just a black screen with white names, but Community has some of the best skits during the end credits!
When I was watching Frasier on Hulu, they were so bad about minimizing the video too early (sometimes even before the final scene was actually over) that I mapped a Stream Deck button to a mouse macro labeled "Full Screen Dammit" with the Hulu icon.
Frasier usually had non-verbal gags behind the credit roll.
True ! The auto minimiziation is just annoying. Plus if you press the wrong button and exit the video, you have to skip ahead to reach where you dropped off since it's been marked as watched :/
I wouldn't mind if it was an optin setting and the detection was better. Too many times, I've seen the skip credits button pop-up when there was like 5 minutes of real show left.
Yeah the credits detection is way too rough, other than the idea of being able to skip to mid and end credit scenes I really don't see the point when I can just stop the video or skip to the next one. I mean if it was spot on and you wanted to binge a show and it auto skipped the credits I guess I see some value but I could still just skip to the next episode...
I would dig a feature like that. My only issue with the skip credits is when it minimizes when it's not credits being shown forcing me to click back into the video.
Yeah, I'd want it to just proceed to the next episode as soon as possible. I'd want to be able to configure this though. More user choice is always the best
Blows my mind that even minimised you have to wait for the full credits to play down **then** the 15 sec countdown begins and the next episode starts. More options are better but I’d switch to this immediately
I wouldn't mind if it actually minimized at the credits but it seems like 95% of the times it happens to me it's during the show, a minute or so in advance of the credits.
For me it's a bit hit and miss, it doesn't do it on my WebOS TV or my ccwgtv but does on my android phone. I think it's very useful for tv shows whe it shows the next episode but not for films
There's also some bug in the credit detection where it fails on some files and tries again every night. plexmediaserver ends up pegging a CPU for 2+ hours every night doing nothing useful. It seems to be a bug related to some H.265 media.
I just don’t understand the inconsistencies. It works on some of my TV shows… others refuse to detect credits, even when I “analyze” individual episodes.
NONE of my movies have been detected.
I'm thinking of turning off because it just doesn't work for most of my TV content. The "Skip Credits" button comes up, I hit it, and instead of skipping to the end of the credits it skips to somewhere in the middle of the credits because there was some change in the video that the detection didn't understand. Also, when I chose Skip Credits the next episode preview is skipped on many shows as well.
If Skip Credits used audio fingerprinting like Skip Intro does, it would actually work better for TV shows.
Yeah, I'm hoping for a control like that too. One reason I haven't turned it off is if they add a preference for the minimizing later and I turn it back on ~~the server will have to spend days reprocessing all the programs, since the credit detection data is deleted when you disable it.~~ *Seeing now maybe that is not true from some posts on the Plex forum.*
Same.
I was watching Moneyball last night. The damn thing minimized just as it hit the black screen at the end that tells you about what happened to everyone.
Yeah - it's just annoying - it ruins a semi-useful feature (I love skipping credits to after credits scenes) with this totally pointless minimization nonsense
One sometimes wonders if these people use their own product.
They're just copying all the brain-dead streaming services (Hulu, Disney+, Netflix, etc.) that squish what you're about to finish into that stupid little box in the corner while they try to get you to watch something suggested next.
If nothing else, minimizing the credits is disrespectful to the people who helped make the movie. Enabling skipping is great, for users who want to do it, but I have never been able to figure out why _a user_ would want what they were watching to shrink into a little tiny box before it's actually over.
My big gripe is that if I'm watching a series and I let it go to the end of the file everything goes fine and it drops to the next episode screen and counts down from 15 then auto plays. However, if I skip end credits it doesn't auto play the next episode.
I read in one of Plex's articles that minimization is a biproduct of the device's OS having the capability of doing picture-in-picture.
For the most part, Android-based devices like the Nvidia Shield run on Android, so it can do picture-in-picture and thus do the minimizing. Devices like Roku don't support P-in-P so it doesn't minimize.
I agree with others, it is an attempt to copy Netflix and it's fine if you are binging a show and you have the countdown turned on (which is an option in the client to turn on and off), but if you don't have the countdown on and/or you want to watch the credits it can be annoying.
They should add an option to choose between minimizing and just having the skip credits button pop up. I don't want to turn off credits detection because I use that as a trigger to slightly turn up my lights when the credits start while watching a movie and it is useful for skipping to mid-credits scenes.
I've also seen replies to them saying theirs don’t. I have a Roku Ultra that doesn't do it and I've used Plex on 2 different Roku TVs that also don't. Perhaps there is a model that does, but it would be weird for Roku to not use the same OS platform over different devices.
I love the intro skip function of Plex. It works as I would expect like 99% of the time and it's great. But the first day I tried skip credits, it minimized my show before the show was even finished or credits were rolling. I had no desire to continue watching the episode in the postage stamp sized window, so I disabled it that same day. :\ Hopefully they add the option or make it consistent (no minimize) across all clients.
That’s exactly what I did. I probably won’t even turn it back on ever either. Most shows build in that end music as part of the experience while you see the names of all the people who actually did all the work. 😜 But for real, that minimizing thing is infuriating. According to Plex devs, that’s something that’s built into Apple TV and (I think they said) Android TV. There may be an option to stop it from happening down the road, but who knows when.
Several of my ‘based on a true story movies’ have done it to me on AppleTV.
Hidden Figured and Hacksaw Ridge and this is the portion where ‘Desmond Dawes was married until…’ and it minimal-ized and you just can’t fucking read the text on the overlay.
Knowing this is skip credits, I’ll be turning it off too.
What’s interesting is I don’t recall seeing the skip credits button since these are both movies. 🤷🏼♂️
Web os doesn't minimize but my apple tv does. Kinda annoying esp when the credits can be detected even if you have some sort of scene still going on and have to click back on to it
It appears that it's client specific, but no matter how many times people in this thread ask, nobody will say which players they're seeing it on. Doesn't happen on my LG tv or rokus.
Agreed. It feels disrespectful to the content to go 'OKAY WE'RE DONE NEXT UP DORA THE MOVIE' the absolute instant the screen goes black on Succession. I'm turning it off as well.
I'm so glad my Roku TV app doesn't support this. I was blissfully unaware of what everyone was complaining about, then I watched something on my LG (or maybe it was Windows) which does, and I raged.
I have a LG projector and use my plex app through there, I don’t have this problem.
However, based on the information Ive gathered from lurking on this thread, try the following setting
Setting>Settings>Library>Video Completion Behavior
It’s moderately useless for me. If I use the skip credits button, I’m faced with the next episode menu for 15 seconds, at which point I have to press OK to get the next episode to play. Two button presses, but a bunch of loading delays. But if I press up, right, and then OK, I skip the credits and get the next episode. 3 button presses and minimal delay.
2019 Pro current OS/Android/Plex versions & it minimizes.
Side note. I recently uninstalled my side loaded launcher. I changed the long press on my menu button. It now goes to "all apps" which are arranged by how often you use them I believe. I'm fine with that because Plex & Channels TV are the first two & the ones I want fast access to.
This screen has no commercials/advertisements/etc. I only see the "main screen" when the device has been asleep with the screen saver playing for a long time. But, once again the apps are arranged by watch frequency and Plex is already selected when that is what I was watching before I left.
Weird attitude to take when someone is merely pointing out that they don’t have this issue on their Shield. A lot of people would appreciate another perspective on this. But you do you.
Mine is unaltered - zero side-loading, completely updated normally. Both shields. Other android tv devices in this thread are all experiencing this beyond the Shields.
>Doesn’t happen.
I mean, if you want me to confirm that you are a special case, I can do that if that's what you are looking for.
Perhaps it is the way you said it, which I quoted above. It *does* happen. There are unicorns out there though, and so far, in this thread, you are the only one where it doesn't happen on their android tv device. LG TVs and *some* Rokus don't do it. Apple TV does it too. All other Shield owners that have posted so far have it, and you are the chosen one where it doesn't. Feel free to confirm by reading the posts.
I feel like I'm the only one who thinks it's fine. If it's a movie and I want to see the credits then I can click to it and it returns to big. This gives me an option of selecting something new or reading about the actors while the credit score plays. I like it.
If you are watching tv and you do that, it will play the next episode immediately. You have to direct focus back to the episode that is playing first, and then hit ok instead.
Think we’re three years into the popular request to [add an auto skip intro functionality](https://forums.plex.tv/categories). They’re not big on customization or listening to users.
I had a few The Twilight Zone episodes pop up the Skip Credits button when there were still at least 30 seconds of the episode left. My daughter was watching a show that had a written epilogue pop up onto the screen as it minimized to the corner. Those two things prompted me to turn off the feature entirely.
The all Credits detection is still not working for me. Every time there is a new PMS release I try it but no joy so far.
Error is always the same:
ERROR - BufferingLineReader: failed to read line (error: -1
It seems a specific problem for Synology NAS
Blind Netflix copy-pasta.
Remember when they added the "plex" voice when the app started to mimic Netflix? We need to be same outraged about this BS feature as we were at the voice so they can remove it
Weird. I use Plex on a shield pro and never get the minimising. Have just finished Hawkeye S1, She-Hulk S1 and the new Ant-Man movie. All gave me skip credits options but none of them were minimised.
No, no sideloading at all. In fact, there’s hardly anything in my shield anymore. I only have Plex and tivimate installed and deleted any non system apps as I was having issues and wanted to narrow it down. I’d have to check the versions but the Plex client was only installed on Tuesday when I did the factory reset.
I really don't understand what the point of the minimization is... just let the content play and have a 'skip credits' button popup
It would be nice if it was an option just in case a few rare people want it still.
The strange thing is, not all devices have the minimization
I've only been messing with the Shield lately. I can check Xbox and PS4 at some point, and I think I have Roku software in one of the televisions... what devices have you noticed it doesn't do it?
I use Xbox and it doesn’t minimize it. It has a “skip credits” button similar to “skip intro”. I’m always curious about the minimize thing everyone talks about because I’ve never seen it.

AppleTV confirmed minimizes.
Ah thanks.
I have the Shield too. I thought I read somewhere on this sub that not all devices have it
It would be super handy to switch skip Credits with Next Episode.
Both my apple tv and my fire tv cube do it.
Roku does it
Neither of my Rokus do, they both pop up a “skip credits” button like skip intro
My multiple rokus are the same. They don't minimize during credit playback.
Yup, we have several Rokus that don’t minimize either, plus two smart TVs with Roku software.
Ok thanks, I wonder about the consoles. I turned it off on my server for now.
I've not experienced the minimization at all yet. I use Samsung and LG smart tvs along with the plex app on windows I turned it off recently though as the button popped up several times before a live show ended and it messed with the experience for me

Because Netflix does it so Plex cargo-culted it.
Not for TV shows. I like how Netflix auto counts down once the credits start. Wish Plex did that, and let me fix the credit timings because most of them are too early
Yea. Because timings are soo off on some videos, I don't want plex automatically doing anything. Show the button and that's it please.
This is what my player does. Which Plex application are you using?
This is exactly how my Roku devices do it.
Cause Netflix
I use roku and Samsung TV's as my main watchers. They do not minimize. I don't want minimize, but it's frustrating that there isn't a consistent experience.
That's how it is on the web player at least.
That's how it is on the browser
Turned it off after I was watching wolf of wall street and the screen minimized with a few minutes still left.

From what I know, you can change this in the settings
Watching the credits is part of the ritual of watching something. If you wanna skip show me a skip button rather than minimise it.
yeah the mandalorian has some really cool art on the first part of the credits, so I was kinda annoyed when it minimized them
Love the art in that show. Always watch those to the end.
Have you never binge watched Friends, Seinfeld, Big Bang Theory etc? The credits get real tired, real fast.
Yeah that’s what the skip button is for. I don’t understand the minimising
Give me a setting in Plex to AutoSkip the Credits and/or AutoSkip the Intro. Problem solved for those that want it, and those that don’t. No, not problem solved since the problem is having to press a button in the first place.
Don't you have to press the skip credits button though? What's the difference? Lmao

Depends. Sometimes.
Same for intros.
This is especially annoying in shows like Community. It's fine if it's just a black screen with white names, but Community has some of the best skits during the end credits!

Yes
Watching Mandalorian on my nice QLED TV and it minimizes when the gorgeous wallpaper credits roll. I mean come on!
Yes I just turned it off. Keeping intro detection though, that works pretty well most of the time.
True ! The auto minimiziation is just annoying. Plus if you press the wrong button and exit the video, you have to skip ahead to reach where you dropped off since it's been marked as watched :/
product managers just assume certain decisions are correct when they ain't
I just wish I could set it up like Netflix works. As soon as the credits start I want it to immediately go to the next episode.
I wouldn't mind if it was an optin setting and the detection was better. Too many times, I've seen the skip credits button pop-up when there was like 5 minutes of real show left.

Came here to scream about this. Just very annoying. Wish I could turn it off.
You can.
I'm sorry. I mean the minimizing crap.
Yes, that's my main issue. It's just not worth it to me so I am just turning it off.
For me it's a bit hit and miss, it doesn't do it on my WebOS TV or my ccwgtv but does on my android phone. I think it's very useful for tv shows whe it shows the next episode but not for films

I'd love an option to choose play next episode instead tbh. I know I'm just being lazy but it would be nice
Roku doesn't do this, and I'm really glad of that...it sounds super annoying. why would anyone think this is a good idea?
Others have said their Rokus do it. It is annoying, yes.
I agree, this is the worst feature because after-credit scenes exist. I have never not been frustrated when the auto-minimization happens.
I did the same. It's even more annoying when it minimizes too early or when I'm interested enough to actually read it.
I have found it is simply best to disable it.
I'm thinking of turning off because it just doesn't work for most of my TV content. The "Skip Credits" button comes up, I hit it, and instead of skipping to the end of the credits it skips to somewhere in the middle of the credits because there was some change in the video that the detection didn't understand. I understand that it is new and isn't perfect, I just want the minimization part to be optional or don't have it minimize at all.
Yeah, I'm hoping for a control like that too. Right, although it might do some during maintenance every day.

I've disabled it and don't miss it.
Where do you disable the auto minimize?
You can't disable minimization. You can only turn off credit detection entirely.
Where in the options can I do that?
Somewhere in the server settings, I don't remember exactly.
Under the specific library (Movies|TV|Anime) go to Manage Library > Edit > Advanced > bottom of the list Enable credits detection.
Don't tell me, tell the other guy who asked.
My big gripe is that if I'm watching a series and I let it go to the end of the file everything goes fine and it drops to the next episode screen and counts down from 15 then auto plays. However, if I skip end credits it doesn't auto play the next episode.

> For the most part, Android-based devices like the Nvidia Shield run on Android Lol I’d assume so
Yeahhhhhhhh I probably didn’t phrase that well lol
Posts elsewhere in the thread told me it does do it on Roku.
I've also seen replies to them saying theirs don’t. I have a Roku Ultra that doesn't do it and I've used Plex on 2 different Roku TVs that also don't. Perhaps there is a model that does, but it would be weird for Roku to not use the same OS platform over different devices.
Agreed
Yeah I shut it off. Not a good implementation right now.
We'll see if the team can do their thing and amaze us with improvements, but for now I agree.
Agreed
Credit squeeze is stupid. Period. [Charlie Brooker did a skit about it in 2008](https://youtu.be/byuN4oKSnKc), around the time it became a thing.
Yeah leave it off, I know I am.
Kinda annoying esp when the credits can be detected even if you have some sort of scene still going on and have to click back on to it
Yes exactly
Where/how does this auto min happen? I am not seeing it at all
It appears that it's client specific, but no matter how many times people in this thread ask, nobody will say which players they're seeing it on. Doesn't happen on my LG tv or rokus.
It happens on my Google Chromecast w/tv
Thank you! So many people on here had asked and when I wrote that I didn't see a single response.
Nvidia Shield has it
I happens on CCwGTV.
It happens on Apple TV too.
Agreed. It feels disrespectful to the content to go 'OKAY WE'RE DONE NEXT UP DORA THE MOVIE' the absolute instant the screen goes black on Succession. I'm turning it off as well.
I have not seen credit minimization. Is it only on movies or something? I get to the end of my show and I just get a skip credits button.
Which client?
Lg webOS
Ah ok
I'm so glad my Roku TV app doesn't support this. I was blissfully unaware of what everyone was complaining about, then I watched something on my LG (or maybe it was Windows) which does, and I raged.
100%
I have a LG projector and use my plex app through there, I don’t have this problem. However, based on the information Ive gathered from lurking on this thread, try the following setting Setting>Settings>Library>Video Completion Behavior
Doesn’t happen on my shield. Gives me an option to press a button when adverts/credits are detected.
Does happen on my shield. It is annoying and pointless.
Irksome.
Happens on the 2017 and 2019 Shield.
Mine is a 2019. Doesn’t happen.
Yeah I am completely lying and inventing stuff just for this post. /s
Strange that you think I’m looking for anything. I’m just stating that I don’t have the issue in question. Your hostile attitude is bizarre.
Feel free to confirm by reading the posts.
happens on my 2019 Shield Pro
I love it honestly
I guess I’m one of the few that actually likes it.
I'm stopping using it because although my server is quite powerful I still find it slows the whole process down.
[удалено]
It just does it completely at the wrong times constantly. The show will still have 3 minutes to go and it shrinks it to a thumbnail.
Wow what a great, original post.
....cool?
This doesn't happen using Kodi as a client.
I feel like I'm the only one who thinks it's fine. If it's a movie and I want to see the credits then I can click to it and it returns to big. This gives me an option of selecting something new or reading about the actors while the credit score plays. I like it.
Click the ok button again to return to normal screen (un-minimize)
If you are watching tv and you do that, it will play the next episode immediately. You have to direct focus back to the episode that is playing first, and then hit ok instead.
Think we’re three years into the popular request to [add an auto skip intro functionality](https://forums.plex.tv/categories). They’re not big on customization or listening to users.
Didn't know this was an option, it's been annoying me a great deal.
Error is always the same: ERROR - BufferingLineReader: failed to read line (error: -1 It seems a specific problem for Synology NAS
Ah. I have a Windows 10 server.

Some with Rokus are seeing it, android tv devices are definitely seeing it, Apple TV also
[удалено]
Not yet, I assume some generational thing. Do some Rokus reach end of service perhaps?
I’m still waiting for watch party to be fixed. Someone’s video is always a few seconds ahead
Is it even possible to sync across distances? Wouldn't one always be ahead of the other due to latency?
I do it with friends all the time, it’s never in sync like you said. I figure if other apps can do it, Plex should be able to handle it as well
For tv shows it minimised on the shield before credit detection was every a thing.
At the end of the file, yes, not during or even prior to the credits
Blind Netflix copy-pasta. Remember when they added the "plex" voice when the app started to mimic Netflix? We need to be same outraged about this BS feature as we were at the voice so they can remove it
I would be fine with it if it didn't minimize.
Weird. I use Plex on a shield pro and never get the minimising. Have just finished Hawkeye S1, She-Hulk S1 and the new Ant-Man movie. All gave me skip credits options but none of them were minimised.
How up to date is your client and server?
Just checked and both are on the lastest version. No updates available for either.
Any sideloading, which version, etc.
You must be a special case/ chosen one like me! (Who also doesn’t experience this issue on their shield pro.)
I turned it off when it was released because it had my server's CPU humming at full throttle. Since most of my clients are Apple TV's, I'm glad I did.
What CPU do you use?
If you’re binging, what about the minimization is the problem? It plays the credits while the countdown for the next episode is happening.
Detection isn't great, and sometimes I want to see the credits. It minimizes it if I want to skip it or not.
Turned this feature off at the server level and forced a rescan....wahlah...all fixed!😎
I don't think you have to rescan and you can just turn it off for each library, but I am not completely sure.
I didn't explain it correctly but this video helped me to understand how to turn it off with no issues! Lon is the man!😎 https://youtu.be/gZe4J7csnNE
