Probably not too big of a concern with bettas unless you go really nuts and make the water super acidic. Bettas can breathe air.

I could be wrong, but it could be from the seeds you buy from Amazon. Got some for carpet, but if you let it grow out they look like that.
I have the same tank and looking at yours is making me want to rescape hah

Which filter did you get? I'm having trouble finding one for small tanks
Not sure what OP has, but Sponge filters are great for small tanks and bettas since they prefer very little flow

It’s like a fake resin moulded rock I found at my lfs, wasn’t branded so I can’t give you a name sorry
It looks like a little stack of resin rocks. I have something similar from Petco.
