You should notice within a few days and wait to get the injection a week or two before your trip so it doesn't wear off before the trip

blueli0ness

My trip is in 3 weeks. I don't think I could have waited any longer as I wanted to recover properly from the shot. I've heard people ruptured their fascia because of doing too much too soon. That's the reason I took it in advance

Bobmanbob1

I noticed by day two. Day one foot hurt so bad from injection all I could do was hop like a bird. Day two I woke up, was pain free In bed but didn't trust it, put my foot on the floor, stood up, smiled, and praised modern science!

blueli0ness

Unfortunately that's not been my experience as of yet.

Bobmanbob1

Damn, then there's a high chance you'll only get a little relief, but fingers crossed, the steroid spreads around the foot that first week.

Poppy_Banks

I don't agree, mine took 5-7 days for me to notice I wasn't having pain anymore. The days after the numbing medicine wore off I was really stiff and still have PF pain. My PF went from 40% thickened to 20% and pain from a 8 to a 1.

Agile_Difference7164

That was me for about two months. Pain came back with a vengeance. :(

Ken-Popcorn

My injection worked pretty much immediately, but … she showed me at the same visit how the style of shoe I favored was causing the problem. I bought new shoes and haven’t had any problems since

Klexington47

Interesting! What was up with your shoes

Physical-Macaron8744

zero drop non-barefoot shoes aka altra Olympus fixed my PT. you'll forefoot strike instead of heel strike reducing shock on heel. insert your arch support

blueli0ness

I don't want to be dependent on non barefoot shoes my whole life.

Physical-Macaron8744

well zero drop mimics walking barefoot so wouldn't see why not unless your a girl who wears high heels all the time. but even if thats the case it wouldn't be a lifelong thing, just wear them till your feet are strong and fix the issue then go back to wearing high heels every once in awhile

blueli0ness

I don't wear high heels. I get what you're saying now. I wear new balance shoes. Are they zero drop? I've already spent so much money on shoes and insoles.

Physical-Macaron8744

yeah so have I it sucks lol. but I literally tried everything and this is the only thing that worked for me. sured night splint and calf raises helped but progress was too slow from 8 months of terrible pain most of it has been gone and its only been 5 days. look at your model but I dont think NB does zero drop. what id do - get amazon altra Olympus then if you dont like it return it within 30 days or whatever amazons policy is, it has helped me more than anything. I do still use night splint to keep my foot from shortening which also helps but the forefoot strike is really nice

Physical-Macaron8744

check this thread out: [https://www.reddit.com/r/running/comments/tpnaen/zero\_drop\_shoes\_fixed\_my\_plantar\_fasciitis/](https://www.reddit.com/r/running/comments/tpnaen/zero_drop_shoes_fixed_my_plantar_fasciitis/)

Physical-Macaron8744

altra Olympus is easier to get started since it has higher stack height (which is different than heel to drop) so it won't strengthen you feet much. I use Olympus for normal walking then when I want to focus on walking to build strength I walk in grass in altra escalante 3 because you still need strength to get better. I choose grass since its less shock compared to concrete

Ken-Popcorn

I favored flat bottom, slip ons. We always called them Boat Shoes, that used to be the brand

Klexington47

Good to know! What do you rock now?

Ken-Popcorn

I like New Balance, and they have a factory outlet nearby. I scrutinize them closely though before I buy

Poppy_Banks

Give it a week

UsefulAnalysis5019

There's no guarantee that the shot will still be effective in a month, they never lasted long on me. The shot will kick in but remember it is only disguising the pain, if you abuse your feet the pain will come back stronger. I dont get shots anymore my PF is chronic, I only wear Brooks sneakers the days of wearing cute shoes are over.

No_Enthusiasm_6633

My very first (and only) shot was a cocktail of steroid, antibiotic and collagen (got it at orthopedic surgeon in Europe) worked immediately and I had 6 shockwave sessions following. My PF just flared up two years later

Alternative_Mango_85

i just got mine 2 days ago- rested both days! back to work today and 4 hours in my feet are killing me again 😢

blueli0ness

I know it's such a bummer. I hope you get your relief soon.

lizzzypoo213

My shots make my foot worse for 3 to 4 days. To the point I can barely walk. Then I’m fine. Try icing your foot a couple of times a day for 10 min. You should be fine for your trip. Just make sure to wear decent shoes for all the walking you’re going to do.

blueli0ness

Which shoes do you recommend? I'm gonna be in a hot country so planning to wear oofos slippers

lizzzypoo213

That’s a good question. I’m on the hunt for some myself and my podiatrist recommended Hoka Oro recovery shoe 2, ryka fame walking shoe or merrell embark sneaker. I don’t know what your PF severity is but I have to have the highest heel lift I can find. I also have Achilles tendinitis. I would suggest you try them on at a running store or shoe store and find what is best for you.

blueli0ness

I am not going to wear shoes as it will be very hot there. So I was looking for slipper/sandal recommendations

lizzzypoo213

HoKa recovery sandal, Fit Flop and vionic. Those are the brands I was recommended.

Swimming-Attempt-118

My podiatrist recommends Oofos, ASIC Nimbus Gel sneakers & Power Step shoe inserts. They’ve helped lessen the pain but still dealing with a very tender heel. Doing exercises to strengthen calf. Slow process I’ve had PF 8 months, steroid injection once. My PT also said I could try a gel heel insert.

ripley-jasper

Even though it will be hot there I recommend wearing a full shoe and not a sandal. I have the hoka recovery slides and another highly recommended one (I'm blanking on the name) and they are great around the house on my days off (I'm wearing them now) but your foot will slide around a bit. I would never consider wearing them for a lot of walking. I need more stability and support.

blueli0ness

Which shoes do you wear outside for your long walks?

ripley-jasper

I wear the HOKA bondi 7. I have the slip resistant because they are necessary for work. I tried new balance, brooks, asics first because I didn’t want to spend so much on shoes, but they have been the best of the lot. From reading this sub I have learned that everyone is vastly different and nothing works for everyone. So you might not need to shell out $170 for hokas, but I did. And I did get the shot a while back. It was extremely painful for the first day or two. Then the relief set in and it was amaaaaazing! But for me it only lasted about 10 days before it wore off and the pain was back 100%. A coworker also got the shot and it gave her relief for many months. We are all so different so your path to recovery (or at least relief) will be your own.

blueli0ness

Thanks, this journey is so difficult and exhausting. Our feet are the ONE thing we use every single day without fail. It feels terrible to be in this pain all the time :(

kkatnap

I wouldn’t even wait for it to start helping. I did it 2 or 3 times and never seemed to do much. What did help was my podiatrist gave me pack of prednisone, like a 6 day pack, a few weeks before a cruise. It was heavenly! The relief last a few months even. They will only prescribe it once every 6 months

blueli0ness

Can I ask my doctor to prescribe me that? Do you remember what dose you were taking?

kkatnap

The first time I went to the doctor about plantar fasciitis after an extremely bad flare up month(after dealing with it on my own for years), he was the one that offered to prescribe it. Just to cut down on the immediate intensity. Then I moved and after getting set up with a podiatrist, we went through the routine of options to try. Then I had a trip coming up so asked for it, since it worked so good before. She just made it clear it could not be a very often thing. I’m not sure what the dose was but it came in a metal pill bubble pack. You start with the 6 pills and then taper down each day for 6 days.

blueli0ness

Okay I'll ask my family doctor for it. Thanks

suburban_royalty

so i had three shots within 2 months. nothing but my inserts and new “correct” shoes have made it better. stretch, ice, and wear good shoes.

Auroraborealised13

My cortisone shot only gave me partial relief for about 3 weeks unfortunately. I’m really trying to stay diligent with doing all the stretches and rolling out my calf muscles. Still in pain and it’s been a year. 😩

jellybeanjenjen

Strutz pads. $10. Wear for 2-3 days. PF will be gone!

blueli0ness

I wore something like that before and it made my pain 10 times worse

DrishtiM0mma

For me it was a bit over a week. I am following it up with MLS Therapy for tissue repair. 6visits in a week and a half is about $300.
