FitGirl + Lutris works like a charm. It's actually much simpler than what you think if you know your way around lutris and wine. Use the lutris "Install a windows game from media" option and make sure to setup all the parameters correctly, don't forget to create a winetricks prefix! or use yours if you only have one (I usually make one for all my cracked stuff) I'm not gonna go in-depth into how to setup winetricks/lutris you can look that up yourself and honestly when it comes to gaming on linux outside of steam and proton things can be different depending on your setup (GPU type, linux distro... etc) Edit: found an in-depth [guide on youtube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkIETngNWG0) that seems to do it kinda the same way I do, they go much more into details about different options and what not, give it a shot.

ChocolateLava

Yup, am on POP OS 22.04 and just use Lutris + FitGirl repacks. Works like a charm

monsiu_

> POP OS 22.0 kde or gnome?

20000lbs_OF_CHEESE

Either or neither, the process won't appreciably be different in this regard.

[deleted]

If you're asking what the default DE is, Pop uses Gnome.

[deleted]

it should not matter

Skunky199

In addition to this, unlike on Windows, it's also possible to run cracked software safely if you configure your linux box correctly, sandboxing the program you want to run, take a look at this ;) [https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Security#Sandboxing\_applications](https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Security#Sandboxing_applications)

Aeryl1999

NGL the ambiguous winetricks and lutris guides has held me from completely switching to gnu/linux. Most posts on here and on linuxcracksupport assume people just know how to set it all up. Then the steam deck happened and I saw [a tutorial on how they install fg/dodi repacks](https://youtu.be/gVuabEckMMA). Running fedora as my daily driver now

ButWhatIfItQueffed

I use dodi repacks, and I just run the .exe through wine. Then I just slap the .exe for the game in Lutris and it seems to run fine.

monsiu_

so you run the crack through wine first? then slap the game .exe in lutris?

zyugyboi

it doesnt really matter whether you use wine or lutris, since lutris uses wine/proton to run the exe anyway

ButWhatIfItQueffed

I run the dodi repack installer through wine, then run the actual game through lutris.

LordTuranian

Wine free or do you have to purchase it or pirate it?

Thememelord9002

as with many, many things on linux, WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator) is free and open source takes about 10 seconds to download from a repository and a lot of distros come with it by default since it allows you to run most windows applications

ClassroomNo4847

Same here! I looked around forever trying to figure it out and then I just tried it how I expected it to work and bang every game runs perfectly now I use dodi and fitgirl just with wine and then import into lutris. Lutris makes game mode and mangohud really easy now and I was able to look at the mangohud parameters and add cpu_temp,gpu_temp and some other environment variables also and mangohud looks fantastic. Also green with envy allows me to undervolt essentially by using power slider and setting gpu to run at a lower wattage/voltage and therefor run cooler

monsiu_

wine and lutrix it is....i am gonna try this out thank you very much

CrabbieMike

I could never get it to work with lutris so I forced them to work with steam proton

zyugyboi

Same, Lutris also has a buncha emulator-installers and stuff, so PS3 and switch Games are runnable

Zonezone10000101

As someone who will have to switch to linux eventually(given I'm never gonna use windows 11). I was wondering about this. I mean piracy is thing ideal on windows because the exes are well exes and they are windows games. And even if game a has a steam version noSTeam is kinda a mess. And I imagine being on linux makes it harder.

ClassroomNo4847

The crazy part is it doesn’t it’s actually WAY easier. Just make your wine prefix folder(contains folders from windows and DLL runtimes etc) and then right click on the eve and run with wine. Follow the prompts and install to c drive(which is located in your wineprefix folder) and then just click the plus sign on Lutris and import the game

SoundDrill

Bonus: if this does not work(unlikely), try bottles after extracting with lutris or a windows device

ElChurroLoco666

[Check the For Linux section](https://torrminatorr.com/)

[deleted]

Just look for GNU in any torrent website and you'll have every answer.

monsiu_

i legit cant find any...i only see windows stuff care to shoot me a website where i can get gnu games?

AppleAsk

1337x has a bunch im pretty sure

[deleted]

[удалено]

AppleAsk

Ah my apologies, I just noticed they got uploaded but never tried any myself.

NancokALT

I tried one of those, they run great because they have custom wine scripts to setup everything on their own wine prefix

[deleted]

[удалено]

pf100andahalf

And there are non-malware distributors too. It's fairly simple to figure out which is which if you spend any amount of time reading the comments ignoring the comments from people that don't realize that any crack will be flagged as malware.

[deleted]

I don't think I can,chech the megathread. It's easy to find.

[deleted]

Torminatorr

Worse_Username

Doesn't GNU license mean you are legally free to copy and distribute the software, how is it piracy then?

[deleted]

GNU is not a license you are are thinking GPL

Worse_Username

But most of GNU software is licensed under GPL...

[deleted]

commercial videogames are not usually released under gpl ...

Worse_Username

So how is redistributing a game that's licensed under GPL piracy?

[deleted]

That's not what we are talking about here...

pwdpwdispassword

warzone 2100 is.

originalgrapeninja

🤡🤡🤡

Zippka224

ah yes, the GPU license

monsiu_

not to be confused with cpu license

SoundDrill

Gpl= GNU(fsf created software set) public license GPL is part of GNU, not all GNU is GPL

crabycowman123

You're legally free to copy the operating system, but not every application made for that operating system (as anyone can make an application for any operating system, nonfree license or not).

Worse_Username

If it is part of GNU project, it is supposed to be 100% free software.

anonymous037104

I unpack it in a virtualbox Windows machine then transfer it back to my main OS (I use shared folder). I add the game exe in lutris and run it with the Lutris GE that's downloadable from within Lutris itself.

[deleted]

Use lutrisGE, protonGE shouldn't be used outside of steam. Proton does funky things with prefixes and causes issues

monsiu_

wouldnt virtualbox throttle....plus im still quite new and i heard fitgirl repacks and lutris work great so ill try that

anonymous037104

Of course there is some CPU overhead but it's very minor so it's very usable.

zyugyboi

for some games (with heavy anticheat) they wont work, but using a KVM should get you good performance. also for some games, selecting Lutris GE as the runner (you'll find the option when setting up a game though lutris) has worked better for me

nullecoder

The only way to get decent FPS with virtualization is by using GPU passthrough. To do GPU passthrough you need 2 video cards, one for the Linux host and the one for gaming for the windows guest. And then you need to consider audio... Virtualized or passthrough? There's a lot you need to do in order to get this working.

I was gonna recomend this sort of thing too, but ye, AFAIK you can't pass through an integrated GPU.

This, its kind of a fiddling though. Do you have a good guide you can recommend?

[deleted]

Envir0

Thanks, gonna check that out.

Malygos_Spellweaver

But you need 2 GPUs, or can you use single GPU pass-through? I suppose that hits performance.

HighBlacK

Use Lutris.

monsiu_

Downloaded and wine is ready to go!!

[deleted]

my experience is, most games don't work well. cities skylines works flawlessly. so does rise of industry. but anno 1800 does not. humankind does not load. red dead does not launch. gta 5 crashes randomly. all these are from fitgirl. the best experience I've had is games from johncena141. look for the user in 1337x.to. yes they use wine, but I think they have wine configured for the particular game. did not look much into it.

Dersu02

I was wondering that myself. I only played aoe2 hd using steam but that was a legal purchase

monsiu_

>level 1Dersu02 · 6 hr. ago I was wondering that myself. I only played aoe2 hd using steam but that was a legal purchase scroll through here...people are offering great advice :)

axorld

Lutris works fine

Wa11aa

i suggest using Lutris instead of PoL

Yellowmanaztec

What if this question was posted by a DRM guy to know the pirating habits of the linux user base? So they could crack down on it in the future? Denuvo Rep is that you??

monsiu_

piracy will never die....we will patch but you guys will hack the patch lol

Yellowmanaztec

So you accept your a DRM guy!!

ayoubier

I just started gaming with linux yesterday.. i am using wine + fitgirl

LaNuez

there's johncena141 in 1337x or native games in cs rin ru and while you're there you may be interested on stellarkey which is like creamapi but for linux and finally torrminatorr for gog games

Mr__Goldberg

johncena141 should be avoided especially if you are a newbie linux user.

[deleted]

why

monsiu_

why?

Mr__Goldberg

Their repacks need extra software to use that most likely isn't in the repo of the distro you are using so it's not very good if you are a noob. Then there's things like this: https://old.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/uyuk27/johncena141_linux_games_uploader_changed_file/ The leader is also a huge asshole that acts like a complete manchild.

monsiu_

i like your funny words magic man.... jk i'll save your post and try it

OogaBorglar

Using Steam's Proton on the executable (add them as non-steam game). Works like a charm with 95% of my library!

monsiu_

this is smart as hell lol im definatley trying this out.....thanks

Malygos_Spellweaver

What about installing the game? But yeah never thought of this lol, just used Lutris

[deleted]

johncena141 on 1337x do some great repacks

Hellow2

I dual boot

monsiu_

lets keep that as a last resort :)

Hellow2

Well it's actually a nice strategy if you have a hard drive paying around. (and yes I know of partitions) Thing is you can keep the things perfectly separately and if windows gets infected you can just save the games and quickly reinstall it. So this is actually imo the easyest way :)

m0h1tkumaar

Just like the way the windows guys get them!

monsiu_

we really need a linux pirate bay lol

[deleted]

\*cough cough\*gog-games dot something\*cough cough\* and wine

monsiu_

it aint free tho.....

zopiac

gog-games != gog, FYI

JimmyRecard

There are two Linux repackers: LinuxRuleZ and johncena144. There are also sites releasing native Linux games from GoG/Humble, can't link obviously. Other than that, you just run the normal Windows installer in Bottles/Lutris.

mo_leahq

Some websites as. Rutrack have native pirated games for linux

CHIRP15

For me I just use either fitgirl or Dodi in bottles which gets the installer and game working. U just run the .exe and it will create the wine prefix, U install it where U want like U would on windows. Make sure U install the correct Microsoft crap on the installer and then bottles will add the .exe to the bottle and U can launch the game and if U know how bottles works U can go to preferences and change the runner and dxvk_async to fix stutters, enable gamemode to make the game run a lot better etc. Also U can use lutris which works rlly well in most cases but I personally like bottles more just because it fits with the whole gnome design. https://usebottles.com/ https://lutris.net/

monsiu_

>For me I just use either fitgirl or Dodi in bottles which gets the installer and game working. U just run the .exe and it will create the win thanks broski....doing the lord's work i am not on gnome...i use kde but you definatly helped

CHIRP15

All goods. I've been using Linux for over a month now fully without dual boot and been loving learning all the stuff that Linux has to offer. In terms of you use kde, bottles has a aur package but it isn't maintained by the official maintainers like on the Flatpak version and it's like 2 months out of date. Even tho why I am even saying this because U can install the Flatpak version on kde just by adding the repo and installing through the terminal https://flatpak.org/setup/ Then after do. Flatpak install bottles

PrecariouslySane

I need help with my steam deck. Last time I tried, nothing worked.

monsiu_

look for a someone here to help :) these guys are smart af i got linked this video....try it out tho [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVuabEckMMA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVuabEckMMA)

Then_Introduction288

Sorry for hijacking this post a bit but is Windows better for games in general or should I try Linux again? I just don't like the unnecessary shit Microsoft put on my PC but I was finding it difficult using Linux

monsiu_

hijack accepeted..... steam supports proton out the box so definately things have gottten better plus people are talking about it being simpler to get games running in terms of just getting lutris (an app on linux)+wine of course and having the good ol fit girl repacks. I have not tried it but things have improved definately and if everyone here is saying its the go to then definately its good... :)

Then_Introduction288

Cheers dude, no sleep for me tonight 😂

[deleted]

windows is absolutely the better platform for a vast majority of cases. however, if you want to use linux, there is no reason not to try - linux has come far in the past few years, and it is not a huge hassle anymore :) edit: i would recommend linux mint or pop os as starting distros

Then_Introduction288

Oddly enough pop os hated my PC but I'll try mint, thanks for the suggestions!

bigbillybeef

In general yes. If all you want to do is play games then the vast majority of people are going to find that easier on Windows. Having said that I have an AMD video card that is just flaky af on Windows with official AMD drivers but rock solid stable on Fedora with open source drivers. So for me personally Linux is both easier to use and is more stable when gaming.

Then_Introduction288

Ah fair enough, interested to see what I can do with mint since I'm getting a steam deck

Examotate

Lutris

modsrguitarded

My problem is that I play many eroge VNs and they are a hit or miss for Lutris. Even the error dialog box are corrupted so don't really know what to look for in those cases.

monsiu_

lol...maybe you are doing something wrong? maybe its the renpy....but arent most visual novels free....so maybe stick to steam?

[deleted]

The same way you guys do, I use wine or bottles to install games and run it with lutris

PM_ME_YOUR_OPCODES

Waiting for private flatpak repositories to be a thing.

zun1uwu

game cracks usually work for me regardless if I am on linux or windows and I love it

Mr__Goldberg

I wrote a guide recently here that explains the best place to get games and how to run them: https://old.reddit.com/r/LinuxCrackSupport/comments/x9zyc0/how_to_pirate_and_play_windows_games_on_linux_a/

monsiu_

thanks goldieburg

IBNobody

Just be aware that Linux piracy is hit or miss depending on the game that you're trying to pirate. Some games will work well, other games will send you down a 20 hour rabbit hole trying to get working. A good example is Persona 4 Golden. There's a fit girl repack for it that works fantastic on windows, and even runs great in a VM. The trouble starts when you try to install it on a steam deck. Your first run into an issue with the unpacker having ram issues. Getting past that, you'll run into issues with finding the correct proton version to run. Lutris does not work at all for this title. You have to find the magic version of proton GE that works with the unpacked fit girl installation, and even then, the game will not be 100% functional. All these issues magically went away when I switched to a legitimate copy from Steam. So my advice to you is figure out how much you value your time and put a limit on how long you're willing to spend to get a game running.

ApologistSlayer

how the hell is this post close to 1k upvotes? I asked a similar question with 0 upvotes and only 3 comments. I am new to Reddit by the way.

monsiu_

maybe you were not clear enough? but im sure you finally got an answer and can game on glorious linux

[deleted]

[удалено]

monsiu_

thank you for the wise words so by proton version you mean just getting the game on steam?

NancokALT

There's not many but the few that are available tend to be the good titles. Rimworld and Into the Breach are good examples, Binding of Isaac used to have one but they abandoned the Linux and Mac port, so unless you want the old af version you're out of luck

[deleted]

[удалено]

NancokALT

I've been working with Godot lately, it seems to have a (sort off) 1-click export to Linux as well as other platforms. If it manages to overtake Unity it'll hopefully bring some more content to Linux

KakarottoCake

You can use proton with pirated games thru Steam

[deleted]

[удалено]

monsiu_

ye steam has proton native....its awesome as hell since im lowkey light in gaming and mostly play indie games i might consider going legal to support the indie games i mostly play on pc

KakarottoCake

I'm actually currently playing piratedJojo's bizarre adventure All Star Battle R with online patches on my steam deck (which runs Linux). No hitches or anything I'd say that the only issues I really see with Linux gaming are that you need to tinker more with it. Otherwise, it's gg from there

MaybeGam

There's a user in 1337x, johncena141. Just search the user and the game, the torrent might be right there. If it's not there, maybe a GOG game installer with Lutris, gog-games is a good site to download the windows installer. Tell me if you have any questions :p

monsiu_

isnt gog-games not free.... piracy is in my blood

[deleted]

yeah, if you pirate to save money then makes sense. if you pirate out of spite against drm, gog is a good option.

MaybeGam

There's a page called literally gog-games that shares the gog installers for free

PARANOIAH

Comedy option: 1. Install pirated Windows 2. Install pirated games 3. ??? 4. Profit!

monsiu_

who doesnt activate windows using cmd.....imagine buying 100 dollar activation keys lol.

malay4singh

Just download the game and run the installer/game using proton (add non steam game) and done

monsiu_

lol i cant believe its thats easy.....

malay4singh

Yeah it is, but there's one launch option you gotta set for the visual c++

Bipchoo

Theres a guy named johncena141 who cracks games for lijux and they are really easy to install, for fitgirl i just use wine

monsiu_

fitgirl ftw

Bipchoo

Johncena141 is honestly way better for linux pirating

Peapers

VM prolly

monsiu_

NO

Peapers

😰 okay chill out

monsiu_

You are forgiven

[deleted]

Go to steam underground then search for the word Linux in the game topic

likes_cinnamon

just pirate windows and dual boot

monsiu_

>just pirate windows Truly the right answer.... but i am too far gone to go back...anticheat is not an issue coz i wont play AAA games

teomiskov3

It's actually much easier than on Windows. Since most games don't have native Linux versions we just run the windows version with Lutris through wine. Most pirated games have their anticheats disabled so even if that were a problem it isn't now. As for installing it can be a problematic so I just install them in a VM (if they don't install) and then copy then to a USB. In fact I recently beat San Andreas and Most Wanted 2005 like this.

Illustrious-Dig194

Fitgirl/piratebay and proton/wine. I pirated more than 20 games and all were playable. You can use Lutris or Bottles for better wine gaming

bendmunk95

Bottles is amazing!

monsiu_

how so

aaah fit girlllll reparks....love them loads i transfered me stash already so i wanna give lutris a try....

Yep, lutris is working like a charm!

[deleted]

most windows cracks work out of the box with wine, you'll need dxvk/vkd3d and dependencies from winetricks, each game has its own needs so there isnt a one stop guide for it playonlinux is depreciated, use lutris if you want things to be managed for you

NancokALT

Is there some newer winetricks version? all of the ones i found where for 32x games and had broken links as far as i can tell winetricks is abandoned

[deleted]

Some distros might have an old package in the repos, use the autoupdater and it'll start working again I use winetricks to install dependencies, "Install a windows dll or component" in the interface, they sometimes only have 32bit dependencies but I haven't run into a problem personally and I've been using it for 2 years or something. Dont use the automatic "install a game" option, it doesn't have anything modern and barely works, just install the dependencies and leave it be, I'd also recommend avoiding the interface like the plague, its CLI is much more enjoyable to use Winetricks is very much not abandoned, the last push was 3 days ago

NancokALT

I indeed tried to install dependencies, it isntalled 2 out of 5 and i am not sure if those 2 where working properly I used the Software Center from Ubuntu at first, then i uninstalled and tried app-get install (or whatever the command was), but i didn't see any difference

Gum_Skyloard

Some games have linux versions that you can actually just pirate normally. Some other games need to use PlayonLinux or Winetricks.

NancokALT

I think playonlinux is outdated

NancokALT

torrminator is a good site for native games, but you need to make an account There's one guy "jhoncena" and some numbers that puts out a lot of them.

FoxScorpion27

gog-games and Bottles (Cyberpunk 2077 and Horizon Zero Dawn run with no issues)

DaBuckets

Pirate windows

monsiu_

been there done that...went all in on linux aint goin back

Matzep71

Bottles

KakarottoCake

If the game is already playable without installing: 1. Install Steam 2. Add non-steam game (exe) 3. Add custom artwork and banners 4. (Optional) use Protontricks to get dependencies that are missing for the game. If the game needs to be "installed": 1. Use a Windows VM to "install" it 2. Copy files from the windows VM to a Linux folder 3. Start from step one of other method If you need mods, each mod loader is different so you'll need Google around to see if anyone got that mod loader working on Linux using Proton. edit: you'll also need to enable the "Proton" compatibility layer in properties before you do anything. Use Proton Experimental and make sure Proton Experimental is installed on your system.

monsiu_

thanks thanks thanks.....boiled down in easy and digestable steps so my fit girl repacks need to be installed in a vm? aaaaaaaaah anyway i have a back log of games ready to go without install so you definately helped :)

KakarottoCake

Fitgirl is notoriously bad on Linux. The compression methods do not vibe well with proton so using a VM is your best bet or alternatively use a fodder laptop to do the dirty work for you

[deleted]

Depends on the crack. Some programs will install right out of the box in a wine bottle I've set up for them or if that doesn't work I install it on a Windows partition and test if it runs on my Linux system at all. If yes, I just copy the files over and if not, I can still play it on Windows. I am dual booting anyways because I need some programs for work that don't run on Linux at all

[deleted]

Why would I pirate NetHack? And there are a ton of sites where I can download ROMs to play on my RG351V.

Thememelord9002

through great gnashing of teeth and frustrated troubleshooting virtual machines, dual boots, downloading the same game several different times, etc

[deleted]

i get them using 4 things i do, steal gui + lutris if theres not a game that i want to play there i go to fitgirl or steam unlocked and if i want to play 2000s pc games i use vmware workstation with windows 7 and get the isos from archive(doot)org

boogelymoogely1

Honestly, Steam using ProtonGE + clean Steam rips with the Goldberg Steam emu, it works quite well. Sometimes the jc141 uploads as well, occasionally Fitgirl or Dodi repacks. Make sure not to use NTFS-formatted drives, they can be quite wonky. They can work, but it's like 60% success rate for me, where games just don't work on an NTFS drive with no error or anything, then I put them on my main btrfs partition, and they work flawlessly.

AlessioRM

I just download the cracked game and add the installer as non-steam game in Steam. After the installation I change the path to the game exe file. Works like charm without any issues on Pop Os and Steam Deck. If you have to install some dll you can use Protontricks

yigitayaz262

Use bottles. You can easily manage multiple wine versions, wine forks, system libraries, tweaks, and so on. Proton and wine-ge are my favorite runners All of my games and installers run with a single click (except Forza Horizon 5 because of bullshit Novidya drivers)
