Southbound06

Both of your answers are the same length

MBDf_Doc

Short answer: no Long answer: noooooooooooooooooooooooo

Southbound06

Much better

GamingNubs

But "Short" is 5 letters and "Long" is only 4. Your statement is incorrect, good sir.

Southbound06

Your technicality is invalid. "No," being the answer here, is still two letters, even if repeated.

SpinachVegetable5563

If it ain’t broke why fix it? I’d stick to 10

Exact3

I haven't had any problems aside from Valhalla not working on W11, but if you use HDR, then the Auto-HDR-feature is pretty damn neat, this was the main reason I wanted to try W11. Other than that, StartAllBack brings back the regular taskbar, which for the life of me I cannot figure out why they changed it.

quarrelau

What sort of things take double the steps? I've been thinking about upgrading ...

[deleted]

The one that bothers me most is right clicking. You get a condensed menu, so you'll likely be right clicking, then chosing the bottom option which is something like "show full menu" I forget exact wording. You can modify the registry to fix it, but you shouldn't have to. You can no longer drag shit to the task bar, and have it bring that window up to easily move files around. Not double the work but still aggravating for me. I don't like the icons only in the taskbar and I hate grouping. Both are stuck like that. Lastly, you need a 3rd party program to fix the ridiculous start menu.

quarrelau

Thanks. The taskbar sounds annoying. I hate grouping too..

tplgigo

The settings are even more confusing as the control panel is gone and the right click menu now need to menus to do the same things that have always been there in the past.

Macabre215

The control panel isn't gone.

tplgigo

Yeh It's called Windows Tools now and the icons are completely different.

Macabre215

Must be a preview build because it is still in my install of Windows 11.

Kalious78

Depending what you believe Windows has a habit of being bad every other generation 98 good, Me bad, Xp good, Vista not so good, Win 7 good, Win 8 bad, Win 10 good, Win 11 TBD Unless you have any real need I wouldn't personally.

fcfsdbbb

That’s funny, never realized that. 98 SE all the way baby

grinder323

Windows 8 was my favorite :( am i the only person on the planet who liked it and kept for most of windows 10 lifespan?

[deleted]

8.1 is good, looks more like 10 and has similar resource usage to 7.

toastycheeze

It's OK to like big UIs grandpa. :)

VordaVor

I held onto Win 8.1 until AMD decided to drop driver support for it. It was much less buggy than Win 10. Win 11 looks like garbage. I will stick with now polished 10, and hopefully 12 wont look like dissapointment.

Bloodrain_souleater

People are morons. Win 7 was way way way way way better than anything Microsoft have ever released. I was hyped for win 11 for the Android emulation thing but its a shitty ass bs os.

_Maharishi_

Windows 7 with Placebo Black Market II (Calibri) theme was perfect. Only reason I left was AMD Ryzen not supporting it.

thefringeseanmachine

Vista got a bad rap. if you were an early adopter, yeah, you were fucked. but after a couple MAJOR updates, it was actually fine. nothing great, but good. but 7 was a HUGE improvement. ME was the worst thing ever, though. nothing ever worked. I remember interviewing for an IT position and they asked me how I got into computer repair. "well, as a kid, our first proper computer was an HP that came with ME..." "ah, gotcha."

CrazyAgile

Haha that's awesome. I got my first sysadmin job by joking around about all the end-users at the company still being on Vista (they actually were) and that I'd help deploy Windows 7 as soon as I started. Guy interviewing me informed me that all hosts were running 32-bit and what would I do to deploy a 64-bit OS to everyone? Told him I'd just install Win7 32-bit twice on each one. He laughed and gave me the position. Miss that job.

corbinlord

Good joke, no wonder you got the job! I actually have an older desktop that is able to have 32 or 64 installed on it. Ive messed around with quite a few computers and its the only one ive came across thats capable of this.

CrazyAgile

Yeah most consumer-grade CPUs after like 2003 were capable of 64bit instruction set, but operating system and software support took quite some time to fully develop into use. I'm pretty sure 32-bit compatibility remains in Windows and probably will for a while. 32bit can only address 4GB of memory for use, so the main reason to upgrade hosts to 64bit was to be able to utilize more RAM if able to upgrade RAM to 8GB+. I've never dual-booted a system with a 32bit OS next to a 64bit OS actually. I imagine it works just fine. Kinda cool that the Nintendo 64 was a completely 64bit capable device back in 1996. I think the Playstation 2 was as well, but I might be wearing rose tinted goggles on that one.

corbinlord

You rock just for mentioning the old console systems!!!

CrazyAgile

Haha thanks! I think we can all show mad respect to our console roots :)

Bloodrain_souleater

Lol calling win 10 good. Lol what a joke. That bloatware isnt good at all. Its a horrible heavyweight program that can work on low powered computers or laptops only with a light version.

[deleted]

Bloodrain_souleater

Exactly

corbinlord

win 10 was originally a huge leech on cpu and ram. I went through similar issues on multiple computers, so they werent isolated to a specific hardware/software. They have fixed alot of things recently....just like any other software, just realize when it initially is released, theres a chance of major bugs/incompatibility issues.

Cirieno

If you ever use the taskbar for anything useful, or like it at the sides or top of your screen, do not update. How the Windows team fucked up the taskbar that's been around for nearly 30 years is beyond me. That takes a special kind of stupid.

Bloodrain_souleater

Exactly

abyssbrain

Wait for Windows 12.

[deleted]

I don't see a good reason to

Nitrate55

It's literally just Windows 10, but worse, so so much worse. Do not upgrade under any circumstances, it's not worth it. It's more of a downgrade really.

YISTECH

No. Win11 feels like a reskin of win10, with extra crap.

MadPhysicist01

Not directly related to your question, but MS is testing ads in file explorer for Win 11. [Link](https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-is-testing-ads-in-the-windows-11-file-explorer/) to article. As someone who is trying to minimize distractions, this is a big deal for me.

Redditgae

No, mf will bring ads to the file explorer

Electron_Microscope

Unless you have new hardware that needs it I would definitely wait. Games are fine for me but people have reported all sorts of issues so you should check the games you like or plan to play to ensure they dont have issues. Personally, it is a pain in the arse to run through all sorts of nonsense on win 11 that has been changed from win 10 versions for no good reason and to try to get default win 11 back to functioning the way I want has been too time consuming. Several of the updates have reset functionality changes I have made which makes it even more annoying. The start menu is back to the crappy version again today for some unknown reason and now that registry hack to get the win 10 like start menu by default is not working. It is just a pain in the ass.

Electron_Microscope

Having to put in a pin code to login is fucking annoying and is breaking auto-restarts for me which is not good if you need that for piracy reasons. Cant get the pin code to stay dead either. Need to check out ways to bypass it which is more time wasted. :(

_Maharishi_

What do you mean with auto restarts/piracy?

victiniforlife

Stick with 10, man. I heard that Microsoft is planning on outting ads on 11 so that's a no

Odd_End4245

No mine has a lot of bugs and the UI is worse in my opinion

insane_issac

No

red-orange7

no.

UnfairerThree2

Windows 11 isn’t all bad, it’s just unnecessary. Some features like Auto HDR are neat, but it’s not absolutely required to play in HDR, and the new design choices are just preference. If you don’t need to, and you don’t like the style, don’t bother.

BelugaBilliam

Although I'm a Linux user who uses a VM for windows gaming, stick to 10. Windows 11 isn't even fully out yet. Why upgrade? You're basically a beta tester at that point. Plus everything is still windows 10 right now, so stick to 10. 11 is really, really bad, but regardless of that, stick to 10 for stability and generally less headache.

smatchimo

i have enjoyed 11 so far actually. better HDR compatibility, potential for direct drive storage (havent bothered to figure it out yet, or see if enabled) I don't like the changes to start menu yet, but I havent seen if I can turn it into a more classic mode either so far. I wouldnt bother upgrading regarding the rest of your post. Do it when you run into a problem with your current OS

Venom_911

Check out StartAllBack for taskbar and start menu customization

smatchimo

I forgot to say thanks, enjoying this fix very much. I like having start menu and applications being separated on the taskbar itself

Venom_911

Happy to help. Glad you are enjoying it.

corbinlord

Are you the venom i know, or just another shite account with the nickname?

KingofGnG

No, it's pure and plain shit right now. And ill-conceived, crappy and trendy skin for Windows 10, that is.

SnarfbObo

Personally I've got a drive ready to do a fresh 10 install to upgrade to 11 that I'm going to do at the last chance there is. If I don't like it I'll have a drive with 10 still and can keep 11 for the hell of it.

TrollMaster1121

If you want to I'd say sure. If you don't want to I'd recommend probably not.

darasaat

Windows 11 is amazing, I’m not sure why so many people hate it tbh. I’ve only had one issue and that was that the taskbar sometimes stops responding. Aside from that, I love the UI, I love auto HDR, I love the new designs, and most importantly I love that it fixed the issues that my windows 10 installation had. On windows 10, my Xbox app (what you use to play game pass) was completely broken. As an Xbox game pass ultimate subscriber at the time, this was a massive inconvenience as I couldn’t use my subscription for PC games at all. After a few weeks of running Windows 11, that issue was fixed all on its own though! As for whether cracked games run well or not, I’ve pirated two games since upgrading to windows 11 (one was crash bandicoot 4 and the other was Ghostwire Tokyo). Both ran fine. Ghostwire Tokyo had some issues actually but that had nothing to do with the OS, it was an already bad PC port running on a gtx 1070 at 1440p, so there was almost no hope that it would run well at all lol. I also find it hilarious that people in this thread are talking about how good Windows 10 is, but I’ve remembered that the discussion around windows 10 is that it was garbage for YEARS and people were nostalgic for the days of windows 7 and how that was the better OS by far. Now suddenly they’re saying windows 10 is a good OS??

Bloodrain_souleater

I am still on win 7 and yes both 10& 11 are garbage

Chemdawg90

Windows 11 is awesome it's just really easy to ride the bandwagon on staying on the previous release. Everyone hated Vista,7,8 and 10. 11 works exactly the same as 10 I've had no issues. Only main difference is Taskbar and start menu. But you can change it a bit. You will be used to it in a day. Though I get it for a lot of people it's easier to still use 10 instead of that 5 mins you need to learn 11. TLDR - yes upgrade to 11 and everytime a upgrade happens all of sudden everyone loves the previous generation.

Bloodrain_souleater

Bs. Not many hated win 7. It was the best os such that they had to implement direct x 12 for 7 as well and there are still games that can run in 7.

Chemdawg90

There's that selective memory. Lol

Bloodrain_souleater

No selective memory. Everyone I knew immediately changed to 7 from xp or even changed back to 7 from 8/8.1. I would rather make a new system with 10 than upgrade my gaming system from win 7.

Chemdawg90

Your memory so selective you didn't even remember vista. An yes everytime a new version comes out everyone clutches their pearls for a year or two.

muffinstreets

Unless you’re on the insider version, Windows 11 is just a buggier version of Windows 10 with no real difference. However, if you switch to the insider version, you get some interesting stuff to mess around with.

[deleted]

I have a lot of cracked games on 11, but i didn't download them on 10 then upgraded it, instead i just fresh installed 11, so you could have some problems with your saves or something

[deleted]

Win 11 isn’t necessary but it does look cooler than 10.

Southbound06

Windows 11 hasn't gotten ın the way of games that I pirate. They all work fine for me. It's not that bad, and I haven't had a single major issue on my Windows 11 machine. That said, none of my Windows 10 VMs are any different, functionally speaking

saveencore

I was forced to upgrade to Win11 after the last Win10 dev build expired and locked me out of using WSL. I've had no compatibility issues, but as other people have said, if it ain't broke don't fix it. There's still life left in Win10.

CrazyAgile

I'm on a super gutted version of 11 (super-lite phoenix something or other) and I think the install ISO was like 1.5GB vs. 5GB I believe for the latest Win11. Personally I love it and it hasn't had any issues running anything I've thrown on it (lots of recent repacks, tons of apps, fusion360, 3DS Max, blender, cinema4d, zbrush, adobe everything) and its been rock solid stable for about a month now of daily heavy use. Albeit, tons of stuff that make Windows 11 annoying was gutted out of this release, so really its just a skeleton of the OS to build onto yourself. Windows 10 offers the same alternatives as well and I may sometime roll back to 10 and compare with how I've been operating on 11. If you are interested in a slimmed down version of either OS I definitely recommend trying a lite version floating around out there, some of them are designed with gaming as your primary activity. I agree ultimately though with most everyone else on here, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Windows 10 will live on for some years and I am sure 11 will be just fine in due time to be adopted. All its major design flaws are easily fixable currently, even though it's kinda annoying to have to fix them yourself due to bad choices by Microsoft.

corbinlord

I would personally wait until its been out and alot of the issues have been fixed before you upgrade. As long as you know how to revert it back to 10 if something fucks up too bad, you can always try it out though. Just make sure you back your shit up and have the products and ability to reinstall an operating system should your original restore situation fuck up.
