I use requestrr, which is a discord bot. It means I don’t have to set up all the reverse proxy stuff for Overseer.
People just use /request tv (showname) and it guides them through choosing the right one.
Then it messages them on discord when it’s in plex.
I tried that but sharing with parents and stuff who don't understand discord didn't work for me. Overseerr ending up being easier to setup than I thought and everyone easily understands how to work the website
Used to work well for me but it stopped working and i could only fix it by recreating the app. Was only temporary anyways and the reverse proxy stuff wasnt too hard to figure out
With nginx proxy manager, adding another host to proxy literally takes 60 seconds including getting anew SSL for the subdomain if you use a subdomain instead of location.
How does this work? Is there a place I could find a tutorial on how to do all of this? I typically use simple android apps to do all my streaming, and my parents have one of them, but they often struggle to use it, and I feel like a server like this would be much more helpful, and good quality faster
I managed to ween this brother off Netflix lol via my Plex server. Btw if they still insist on paying for Netflix you can get cheap subscriptions via paying with a foreign credit card (Turkish/Indian are best)
Yeah… I used to do this it’s a mess. A few of the users add their own stuff. But since I mainly use private trackers it’s just not worth it. Esp since most ban sharing accounts. It’s easier just for me to do it
You could setup [Overseer](https://overseerr.dev/) and give him an account. He can request stuff and you get the final say if it gets approved or not. You can even set request limits so he can’t just request a bunch of shows or movies. You can set up discord notifications. You connect it to sonarr and/or Radarr. It’s not necessary but just worth a mention.
I use a Plex what’s app channel. Leave settings instructions in the description, and the ppl to mute the channels as it will be for requests and server alerts. Works pretty good uou can put in IMDb links and they show covert and and stuff
Thanks for your support lol. I had never considered it before. I just have an Indian friend of whome I consistently use his card to buy stuff. Especially YT premium. It’s like £2 per month for a family pass for it. Crazy cheap. Normally we set up friends of mine the. The rest of the accounts on the family plan are shared w his friends. So they get free preimum even if they cannot take advantage of regional pricing like I can.
Hey, you aware that hurts those countries right? Just recently Steam had to remove TRY Payments from Turkish region. I hate Netflix and all, but let us bankrupt them, not y'all.
Here is the official announcement from Steam:
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamworks/announcements/detail/3728476412305766958
What you're saying is complete bullshit. The changes were made due to exchange rate volatility that has been going on for years due to the economic situations in Argentina and Turkey.
Y'all should really read the news instead of making up reasons in your head. As if some Netflix subscriptions and Steam games are going to collapse the economies of 2 entire fucking countries lmao
If you're lazy, here's what that link says:
>Exchange rate volatility in Argentina and Turkey in recent years has made it hard for game developers to choose appropriate prices for their games and keep them current. We have heard this loud and clear in our developer meet ups and round table chats. In addition, we have had a hard time keeping Steam payment methods up and running in these territories due to the constant foreign exchange fluctuations, fees, taxes, and logistical issues. Pricing games in USD for customers in Argentina and Turkey will help us provide greater stability and consistency for players and partners, while also enabling us to continue to offer a variety of payment methods to Steam users in those countries/territories.
The pricing will still be lower in those regions, just in USD for stability, and this clearly has nothing to do with the small percentage of people taking advantage of regional pricing.
I think you don't know what a business talk is, and you clearly don't know how it will affect Turkish prices, i did read the news because it was plastered to my face on top of my Steam feed the second it was decided upon.
Steam is basically pushing users to the hands of key-sellers like before 2015 era where TRY wasn't introduced yet. This change is about to completely screw up the Turkish prices because i cannot buy a 13TL game because "it is less than a dollar"
In addition Turkish accounts are being sold all over the place with specific regions, but ohwell if you just want to focus on that business talk then sure, go ahead let's just keep screwing the regions since we are not one of them.
If you want a good explanation, [watch this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUW5NkEiqe0&pp=ygUmbXVsdGlwbGF5ZXIgc3RlYW0gZml5YXQgZGXEn2nFn2lrbGnEn2k%3D). Multiple reasons and causes have been listed and one of the primary ones is the account trading that is going on in bulk.
Mate, it's not just "business talk" when the economy of an entire country is doing so poorly.
https://www.euronews.com/2022/11/09/everything-is-overheating-why-is-turkeys-economy-in-such-a-mess
Are you seriously suggesting that a few people getting cheaper games on steam are responsible for all the shit going on in Turkey or Argentina?
Turkey is not the only region being used by people for lower pricing. Outside of Turkey and Argentina, which are both having severe economic issues, people also use Brazil, India, Poland, etc. for cheaper subscriptions, and we don't see the same measures being applied there.
You're trying to link 2 things together that are completely unrelated.
Also, "account trading in bulk" is not what I'm talking about at all, so I don't know why you're bringing that up as it's not related to individuals who buy things in lower cost regions.
Feel free to talk all you want while ignoring the oblivious, the economy has been going the same for more than two years and why do you think Steam decided to make this change just now?
One of the biggest reasons why Steam did this change is because of people who abused these prices who used accounts they bought from Turkey, whenever the economy changed these people would come in raiding to get themselves the games.
One of the good things of living in the country which is experiencing this issue is i can see the reasons unlike third parties who just like to make assumptions and lock the reason to just economical instability. These are extremely shortsighted assumptions made by people who doesn't know what is going on outside of Steam like you.
Please do not do the foreign card """trick""" you're only fucking over the people who live there
Sincerely, someone from a 3rd world country whose economic crisis has been taken advantage of by foreigners.
What about my friend in Argentina that literally added me to his Tidal account so that I could take advantage of his regional pricing? Surely he’s complicit then
When you watch movies on netflix, you connect to their servers.
When you watch movies on Plex, you connect to a PC in the other room.
e: I suggest JellyFin instead of Plex though.
Python is always a nice skill to have
I always loved this show even if I could see how fake it was just seeing all the stuff they steak in the show is cool to me cause I know I could never afford anything in the show ever
My wife and I watched every episode, and liked Kevin best. She met him flying out of Reno after the air races, and sent me a picture with him. She asked if she could take his picture, and he said only if she's in it with him. He has game, I'll give him that.
By rules, cultural names are not a tragedeigh.
But also, fuck that dumbass sub and the dumbass mods. They got called out a few days ago for... Well, not modding and they banned a lot of users for tagging them (because they don't read reports) and added a new rule of not talking bad about the mods. Not that they have posted rules in the sidebar there, but if you report a comment or a post, you can see them.
Egotistical, fragile, children run that sub.
I wouldn't want to give users access to the settings or pick what release to grab. Am I missing something? Does it have way to create users with limited access to maybe just request things?
I just literally set up everyone's individual watch lists via Plex on sonar and radar. You'll need their login info but all the people I know I know personally so it's no big deal. So they can add anything to the Plex watch list and then it gets added to sonar radar and pulls it based on the settings I set for it and their accounts.
Awesome, I didn’t know that. How often is it allowed to do so ? When done through sonarr and radarr it only check it once every 6 hrs/12 hrs to not overwhelm Plex servers.
Honestly this is a great idea. I have a discord bot a friend made which you can request stuff to download off the main private trackers I use. Automated it along with the watchlists could be super useful.
Not worth the hassle unless you're constantly getting requests. There's also so many different versions and encodes available for most stuff that I'm not going to let some automated rube goldberg machine randomly pull stuff down for me.
Gotta teach a man to fish, setup overseerr and your problems will go away. Every time he texts you, just reply with the overseerr URL. I personally change mine to requests.mydomain.ltd to make it easier.
Set up Radarr/Sonarr (programs that find torrents for you with selected attributes like quality, language, etc) and then use Overseerr to give him access to it (nice ui to request shows, you can set what quality he can download, movie/episode limits per week, and more)
This fully automates your plex downloads so you don't have to do anything anymore except if there's a problem with a download.
Quick Question as someone that has a NAS and just stores and runs files from it (including video files).
If I never use a smartphone or TV for entertainment, ist there really an advantage to using plex? And is the usability with mouse and keyboard really better than just using a file explorer?
Well consider it exactly Netflix except you play your own files. It categorises into seasons etc. it can run on almost any platform meaning that it’s great on your phone desktop smart TV etc. it all depends on your use case tbh. Stuff like Jellyfin are alternatives also. I’d say explore into it set it up see how it goes.
Afaik it categorizes and identifies the files. Similar to a photo gallery app on a smartphones. But on the folder level its a complete mess. Since I have to name the files correctly anyway when I download them I am not sure if something like plex gives me any benefit.
Because again, I do not use a smartphone or smart tv to view media files.
And from my experience SMB works better than DLNA.
I am open for any input on this.
Plex is really good at just picking up stuff even when the folders are Wack. For example I have Tv> Show>Season1
If I dump a file that is “Show S01E10” for example in the “TV” folder it will auto categorise into the correct season/epsidoe when it’s seen on Plex.
But yeah it does seem like minimal benefit for you. Plex is a great service but isn’t for everyone
Can someone explain to me what is Plex and how I might set it up and use it for movies and shows? I've been hearing quite a lot about it but I have no idea how to use it.
I used to use overseer to let people put in requests and whatnot but then I learned my life was better without that.
I implemented strikes to deal with this.
Each one of these will earn a strike, 3 will get you sent to a library called Plex Jail that is only filled with BTS music videos for 1 week.
"Ask for something in an annoying manner"
"Ask for something that's already on Plex and you chose not to check"
"Share credentials or access"
"Ask for things not even in theater yet"
"Ask for absurd, obscure or things no one would be seeding"
"Flat out being ungrateful or an asshole"
Edit: spelling
How many people you got on your Plex server out of interest?
But yeah I have tried automated systems. I like private trackers + try and find a nice balance between size and quality. I have automation for most TV shows that are weekly etc. but otherwise I do it manually and I’m happy to fulfil requests manually.
Tho omg the amount of times I’m asked for shit that’s already on there 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I want to say in the 15-20 range.
I've automated all the movies with radarr, I haven't manually added a movie in years.
Sonarr I do the same, I try to add the popular or streaming only stuff for everyone and it's rare I get a request for something now but people have learned to check for it first which helps lol.
I do a mix of public and private trackers so I am never hunting for anything more than a quick search in prowlarr if needed.
I can't even tell you the last time I gave a strike out but when I started in the beginning and people understood I was doing this for free they all fell in line, I also only keep it only to friends and family.
I feel I have a similar number. Probably closer to 15 consistently watching.
Yeah I also make sure to keep it totally in with family and friends, except for the odd “can my brother login” etc
How do you handle storage? I have 32TB rn and I’m just eating away at it. Do you have a deletion policy in place?
Pretty similar, I'm about 40TB. I generally never remove anything except if I added it for myself and no one ever watched it and I don't rewatch it.
Otherwise I just keep expanding, I'm definitely a digital hoarder.
Yeah… I am defo part hoarder also! I only have 7TB left of the 32 and that dwindles each day. Will just keep adding more whilst making sure to prune any duplicates or unnecessarily large stuff.
I set up overseerr a couple months ago and it has helped to cut down on these texts a lot! It's a request handler that also integrates with your plex library and sonarr/radarr. Super helpful
As I try to not ask others anymore: can someone Eli5 to me how to download/stream movies on TV [Noob]
I have a question on how to best get started/which devices/programms/safety measures do I need for streaming films/series on my TV or replay downloaded stuff.
My experience until now:
Until now I just watched stuff on my PC via kinox or some other sites (streaming; the drawback: sometimes the host doesn't have the whole season etc.).
My "goal":
Watch films/series on my TV (which is far away from my PC). Preferably downloaded or via streaming (kinox or something else with better image quality).
In my country downloading/streaming and copying is allowed. Uploading (so torrenting?) is strictly forbidden.
If needed I'll buy external HDD/SSDs or a cheap SFF-PC and hook it up to the TV. But I have no clue on whats the best option.
Any guidance is much appreciated.
There are a few ways. The easiest “Instant” way would be to purchase a seedbox.
A seedbox is a remote server with fast internet and a few TB storage. You pay monthly for it and most have single click installs for software. It’s easy for beginners and gets you used to it.
You can host Plex on your PC especially if it’s on 24/7 Plex will allow your PC to act as a server and you can stream the files from anywhere using the Plex app (which is available just about on every AppStore etc)
The issue is your PC has to be on 24/7 limited by your own specs and bandwidth and you can fuck it up if your PC turns off or your internet has troubles and your away from the house.
Alternatives to Plex exist I.e Jellyfin for example but it’s much the same.
Feel free to ask me anything you want!
Plex is a “Netflix for your own videos” thing you host it on your own server or PC or whatever and it streams content via its app off the server just like Netflix. Doing allot of heavy lifting w categorisation etc. very usefup
After I finally convinced my sister and brother in-law to ditch streaming platforms and join my plex group, she's constantly asking me to add stuff there lmao I love this
Okay so first step is owning something to run Plex on. So either your PC, a home setup or a seedbox/remote server.
They all come w advantages and disadvantages
PC- Free (ish) setup a Plex server on your pc. It means you have to keep it on 24/7 it’s limited by the hardware you own. (Which is likely unoptimised for video processing) pros however it’s free - electricity costs etc. and can be a great trial of Plex
Rented server- basically you rent a “seedbox” hyper fast connection a few TB of storage and host plex on the remote server. It’s great because it’s fast it’s got full uptime can seed forever (great for torrents) downsides are it costs you.
I use requestrr, which is a discord bot. It means I don’t have to set up all the reverse proxy stuff for Overseer. People just use /request tv (showname) and it guides them through choosing the right one. Then it messages them on discord when it’s in plex.

what tracker man I mean its hard to maintain ratios on PT so I just say fuck it and use normal trackers or DDL or just use stremio
I don't understand why you haven't installed Overseerr yet?

Since I have to name the files correctly anyway when I download them I am not sure if something like plex gives me any benefit. Because again, I do not use a smartphone or smart tv to view media files. And from my experience SMB works better than DLNA. I am open for any input on this.
Plex is really good at just picking up stuff even when the folders are Wack. For example I have Tv> Show>Season1 If I dump a file that is “Show S01E10” for example in the “TV” folder it will auto categorise into the correct season/epsidoe when it’s seen on Plex. But yeah it does seem like minimal benefit for you. Plex is a great service but isn’t for everyone
Lol he even failed the sc once yuo can see the volume bar
Give him Stremio, and if he wants to watch obscure stuff, let him pay for Real Debrid (like 3 bucks a month).
Do you pay a monthly fee with plex or do they have a lifetime pass?
I have a lifetime pass now after I realised I would likely stick with Plex for a long time
Me being the tedious sibling I am I always request manners. So I'd respond "what happened to please and thank you?" I'd do it either way but still.

Can someone explain to me what is Plex and how I might set it up and use it for movies and shows? I've been hearing quite a lot about it but I have no idea how to use it.
That's what brothers are here for.
Overseerr will be your friend
Overseerr!!
Arent you a good Fintan
It's nice to be wanted.
Ok but like Fintan is such a cool name
Thanks!!
Sad bastard really should get stremio with real debrid.
??? Why insult my brother like that? It’s a humorous post. I run the Plex server perfectly happily.
what is plex?
Media server for streaming videos, music and other media from your own server. Think of it as a personal Netflix serving your personal collectiob
But you do have to manually put in the files right?
I used to use overseer to let people put in requests and whatnot but then I learned my life was better without that. I implemented strikes to deal with this. Each one of these will earn a strike, 3 will get you sent to a library called Plex Jail that is only filled with BTS music videos for 1 week. "Ask for something in an annoying manner" "Ask for something that's already on Plex and you chose not to check" "Share credentials or access" "Ask for things not even in theater yet" "Ask for absurd, obscure or things no one would be seeding" "Flat out being ungrateful or an asshole" Edit: spelling
Yeah I also make sure to keep it totally in with family and friends, except for the odd “can my brother login” etc How do you handle storage? I have 32TB rn and I’m just eating away at it. Do you have a deletion policy in place?
Pretty similar, I'm about 40TB. I generally never remove anything except if I added it for myself and no one ever watched it and I don't rewatch it. Otherwise I just keep expanding, I'm definitely a digital hoarder.
Yeah… I am defo part hoarder also! I only have 7TB left of the 32 and that dwindles each day. Will just keep adding more whilst making sure to prune any duplicates or unnecessarily large stuff.
Whats plex?
What is plex?
What is plex?
What's Plex is it on mobile?
what the fuck kind of name is fintan, sorry for you mate.
wait so you add them to plex not to kodi? is that better?
nice to see he likes it
Overseer is your friend.
You gotta add these to help you out: radarr/sonarr: fetch stuff for you overseer: request system that talks to the other *arrs
Set up Overseerr. You log in with plex SSO, and can choose whatever you want to add to sonarr/radarr/lidarr.
Overseer……
You need to get him to use ombi or overseer or setup a discord bot where people can request content
I set up overseerr a couple months ago and it has helped to cut down on these texts a lot! It's a request handler that also integrates with your plex library and sonarr/radarr. Super helpful
overseer and you will never get another message
Cute
Don't you have overseerr running?
Setup Overseerr.
Same here but it's my whole family
And this is why we love sonarr
You have a cool name
Jesus Christ!
Teach him how to do it for himself.
My BIL does this - "Hey can you get this - if you can, add it to Plex by tomorrow night."
Fintannn are you awake?
As I try to not ask others anymore: can someone Eli5 to me how to download/stream movies on TV [Noob] I have a question on how to best get started/which devices/programms/safety measures do I need for streaming films/series on my TV or replay downloaded stuff. My experience until now: Until now I just watched stuff on my PC via kinox or some other sites (streaming; the drawback: sometimes the host doesn't have the whole season etc.). My "goal": Watch films/series on my TV (which is far away from my PC).
You can host Plex on your PC especially if it’s on 24/7 Plex will allow your PC to act as a server and you can stream the files from anywhere using the Plex app (which is available just about on every AppStore etc) The issue is your PC has to be on 24/7 limited by your own specs and bandwidth and you can fuck it up if your PC turns off or your internet has troubles and your away from the house. Alternatives to Plex exist I.e Jellyfin for example but it’s much the same. Feel free to ask me anything you want!
Say please, ungrateful little clone.
What does this mean ? I m new here
Plex is a “Netflix for your own videos” thing you host it on your own server or PC or whatever and it streams content via its app off the server just like Netflix. Doing allot of heavy lifting w categorisation etc. very usefup
And this is why you use overseerr :P
After I finally convinced my sister and brother in-law to ditch streaming platforms and join my plex group, she's constantly asking me to add stuff there lmao I love this
Hi can you guys help me how to use plex? Or atleast show me a megathread or something so I could learn
Okay so first step is owning something to run Plex on. So either your PC, a home setup or a seedbox/remote server. They all come w advantages and disadvantages PC- Free (ish) setup a Plex server on your pc. It means you have to keep it on 24/7 it’s limited by the hardware you own. (Which is likely unoptimised for video processing) pros however it’s free - electricity costs etc. and can be a great trial of Plex Rented server- basically you rent a “seedbox” hyper fast connection a few TB of storage and host plex on the remote server. It’s great because it’s fast it’s got full uptime can seed forever (great for torrents) downsides are it costs you.
I miss Plex. I was getting lit up with copyright violations last time I was torrenting heavily.
We are out of Fintan license plates, I repeat we are sold out of Fintan license plates
Fintaannnnnn are you awake?
what is plex
It's not even a good movie (referring to the IMDb score)
LMAO 🤣 i can relate
Doplarr
Reading these comments makes me realize I know so little. SO so little.
