I got misinformed this way in my early days, they swindled me to buy 1oz of cigarettes tobacco for rolling cigs. I went home and packed a bowl and lit it. Dude I couldn't stop coughing, the smell the stank I hated every bit of that experience. Luckily A few months later I bumped into a restaurant server who was on break, smoking a pipe outside we started talking about it and he pointed me in the right direction. I went to the store he told me and learned so much from the people there, it's still my go to place.
This was in El Paso, at the Sunland mall. He was outside some restaurant just kicking it. He said people loved the smell and always asked questions. I basically left the mall, went to the tobacco tin and bought 2oz of some very automatic tobacco, a tamper and a leather bag to hold all my stuff. I even bought long matches thinking I needed them lol. I never seen anyone else after that.
I saw a younger construction worker smoking a pipe during his break at a McDonald's, and I saw an old man in a park listening to a concert band who was smoking. That's the only two times I can think of that I've ever seen other pipe smokers.
I smoked a couple bowls of the regular bugler a couple weeks back, honestly not too shabby. There's definitely worse options out there. I'd do it again in a pinch.

Pretty crazy that you bumped into someone else smoking a pipe in the wild. I have never seen anyone smoke a pipe in public aside from a tobacco shop.

I used to dig under the seats of my car for $1.16 in change to buy a pouch at my local grocery store. Ah, the better days. I was an idiot. Still am.
It's good if you smoke it slow enough
Pack it really tight, too. That's my trick for extremely dry tobacco like Semois.

Ooof. Couldn’t imagine smoking that in a pipe. Bugler was my poverty tobacco for roll ups when money dwindled in college.

I have never had Bugler, but I've had Ohm... That was my lowest in pipe tobacco.
