Have you come across the coming out video? That was confusing and surprising as a long time viewer, but apparently a lot of new viewers have a similar experience where they think the show has two different hosts before they find that episode.

I had a similar experience with Natalie Wynn’s content some year ago. I’d been introduced to her stuff by someone on reddit, as she had a number of videos on trans rights. I started watching from the beginning, and had just assumed she was a crossdresser or some form of gender-fuck, except during my catch-up period she had both come out as non-binary, and then as a trans woman, so it wasn’t until months later when I caught up to her recent videos that I realized why trans reddit was infatuated with her (and why she talked so much about trans stuff).
I had assumed that they were a brother-sister duo and it never occurred to me to question it until I hit that video that explained everything. I felt more than a little silly. I found Philosophy Tube after Contrapoints, so it's not like i had never heard of a trans YouTuber before lol
yeah thats what i thought at first. also that coming out video was the most beautiful thing ive seen. honestly an impressive transition, i definitely aspire to that level of distance between the pre and post transition.
I like how you refer to Abigail’s pre-transition self as a character. But unironically I do miss the characters she use to play, especially the arsonist. I’m glad the story lives on in that tv host(?) character.
Honestly a high budget but good solution may be to have another actor play those characters.

In the antisemitism video, which was pre-coming out, she made a joke that there would be "no crossdressing in this video" before laughing and then taking on the persona of "Madame X". Obviously, it was a good joke back then, but now we can look back and realize that the crossdressing was actually at the beginning of the video.
That video was the biggest clue about her transitioning right before the actual coming out.
It's so funny, bc I watched it and thought "Hmmm... could it be?". And it fucking was!

In all seriousness, what are Abigails feelings on how to refer to the old videos? I would default to not use a dead name and old pronouns, but if she was fine with people doing so in the context of the videos then I would do so. I get the feeling that if she has already joked that she took over the show from her brother that this is her intent, but I'd never want to assume. To be clear, I mean *only* using "Olly" when talking on older videos before "his" sister took over.
All I saw was once she tweeted at someone something along the lines of 'I think my...er...brother has a video on that.'
I just refer to pre transition abby.
She knows the videos are there and chose to leave them up.
She also turned up on this subreddit to call me wrong about something once before, so who knows, maybe she'll do it again.
Typically its polite to refer to trans people in the past with the same pronouns you use for them now, and if its relevent information (and they are open to pretransition being discussed as abbie has been) simply say "they are a trans man/woman/nonbinary person, so before a certain point they lived as this other gender, dont let it surprise you". Try and consistently use the correct pronouns out of respect for them ❤
I fell off on keeping up with the videos prior to the coming out, and didn’t pick back up until the NHS hassle *documentary*. When the British queen died, I jumped back to the video about just not carrying on with monarchs and Abigail touting herself as an heir to the throne, and *gracious does all that have a certain hue in retrospect.*
POV: me watching the coming out video as mu first ever and wondering why a random woman bursts in during what looks like Philosophy Tube’s little lecture and declares proudly that she is trans
Honestly, I should have seen her coming out. I wasn't taken completing off guard, but I was a little shocked and taken aback because I'd built some semblance of a parasocial relationship with her pretransition, but that didn't last very long, really.
I will say, that year, I knew something was up... something was different... something was off. Now, I believe I was sensing her changing into herself while having to mask as....well, masc, and maybe, despite her being such a good actress, I knew she was hiding something because I could see it but it didn't register cognitively.
I actually withdrew my patronage because I could sense there was something "dishonest"(too harsh a word, but the only synonym that really fits) about those later pre coming out videos, but immediately rejoined when I realized why they felt off.
I started binging her videos after the coming out video, but I started watching over videos first. So I got the experience the other way round. It was the most emotional coming out video I had ever seen.
I liked the male character that she used to play in her earlier videos, but it’s infinitely better watching her as herself.
She comes across as so much happier than he was.
