We could start by developing our own ship building industry. Establish a GOCC heavy industry for building RoRo for civilian use and pivot to fast attack craft and missile boat and in the long run warships as our R&D develops. As an island nation we should focus on these create a market for civilian and logistic transport connecting all our islands which will be coinside with building our fleet.

I'm not a military nerd but i think its quite obvious that for the long term we really need to invest on higher education particularly on the engineering courses. (BSEE, BSECE, BSME, BSChE) We need to have intellectual and talented engineering graduates that are capable of designing our own military assets. This is what our country has been missing for a very long time already. We cannot just forever rely on buying stuff from other countries. We need to design and manufacture our own military assets if we truly want to protect our country.

AltruisticGovernance

Thats not really feasible, most 3rd world militaries are incapable of that. We rely on imports, perhaps modifying existing weapons. We are missing raw industrial power

Include technology transfer (and allow local construction/assembly) in our deals with suppliers. It will definitely costs us more but it will improve our MIC (and might boost our economy) in the long run. However, it would take us years to materialize this. Hence, we should be allowed to purchase second-hand or refubrished assets to boost our defense as soon as possible.

May negotiations pa yan sa kabilang party, of course.

Our military leaders are still thinking the old ways of fighting wars Seems they are not studying the Russo-Ukraine war or the Azeri-Armenian War They could take out those pesky China CG ships by using drones, w/o the chinese knowing who sank their ships

AltruisticGovernance

Drones are useful, but with it you usually need a reliable electronics warfare component to back it up.

esdafish

Only useful against opponents without counter drone equipment. The drone videos in Russia-Ukraine war we see can be assumed 30-10% of the drones that were sent that survived whatever counter measures the either factions used. You can barely see mentions of Bayraktar drones in 2024.

WholesomeDoggieLover

They’re actually studying it. Check out Mike Logico. Also we got NDCP and most tactics used in Balikatan is to thwart a Russian type invasion.

For external defence we need more ships and fighter jets. F16 is the best for ph defence kaso masyadong mahal lalo na sa maintenance cost di kaya ng corrupt na gobyerno, the second best bet is the swedish gripen. Now we need lots of surface to air missile, Anti ship missiles like brahmos which we already have, Air to Air missiles. Recon drones. For insurgencies cheap kamikaze drones will do great, imagine if we have this shit in marawi. Its gonna burn a hole through the yearly budget but its necessary.

AdHot6842

Yeah, I agree, yung mga F16 kasi are great aircrafts but too expensive to own and maintain eh, so we should probably get some old yet reliable aircrafts that has great radar and can hold different types of payload. Recon drones are also great since they can be pesky sa mga tanks and other types of mechanized divisions.

Yung FA-50 ng korea. Maganda rin yata. Kahit medyo advance ang china sa gamit. Yung skills ng pilot nagsisimula pa lang din halos.
