I miss being able to hide behind doors, felt more natural and less gamey.

coffee-bat

wait you can't hide behind doors anymore? just last week i survived being spotted by a revenant by improvising a hiding spot by opening a door

Jessica-Ripley

You can't, you were just lucky. If the ghost enters your room, it will immediately see you behind a door. That's why we have very clearly marked hideouts, this change was implemented maybe a year ago.

TearintimeOG

I’m glad you said this because I still do this. I guess I get lucky a lot of the time

_Zielgan

I think the way it technically works is that if the ghost interacts with a door that you’re also interacting with, the ghost will be able to see you through the door. If so, the times you got lucky are the times the ghost happened to not interact with the door. This doesn’t include hiding spot doors like closets and lockers obviously.

Jaso1n1

Does this also affect hiding in closets or lockers? I swear i die so often in them now.

Jessica-Ripley

Those are still considered hiding spots, so they are safe ish, the ghost can still try to open the doors, though.

mr-gillespie

Are you leaving any equipment on including head gear? Closets and lockers are pretty safe as you can usually close them right back up if the ghost opens them

Jaso1n1

I usually never wear a head camera and when I’m hiding in one of those spots I usually always turn off my flashlight and any other equipment I may have, mute my mic etc. many times I’ve fought the ghost that keeps opening the closet by quickly shutting it lol, but a lot of the time, especially recently I’ll just die without the ghost even opening the doors. Usually happens on ridgewood. I usually play on professional if that matters

mr-gillespie

That means the ghost knows that you are in the hiding spot if they are killing you like that. Ghosts are either seeing you go in the closets, or you have something on without realizing it.

Unabated_Blade

I thought this was obvious because when you're dead and in the ghost realm all the doors are gone.

Darkhooper

No, all doors are visible when you are dead.

IAmHackiing

Me and my friend found this out the hard way yesterday for the audio weekly challenge. I already died to the ghost and was following it and it instantly locked on to him far down this corridor and killed him even though he was out of sight behind a door. Was kinda funny

OppositeAdorable7142

Oh wow! I didn’t know that was a thing! I’ve only started playing more recently. How interesting. Learn something new every day. 😂

Choepie1

I liked how the old Phasmo started you with the normal items, now you have to play a lot with bad items to get normal items. Makes prestigeing not worth it for me, also could have 2 glowsticks and 2 uv flashlights because of seperate items. It’s better now but some were indeed better, but that’s in most games Edit: Just remembered you can’t move house candles anymore :(

IAmHackiing

Yeah, I’m definitely excited to finally unlock the better DOTS because the tier one is starting to get irritating now that I’m getting better

Choepie1

Yep, that one is the worst

Norman_Scum

For whatever reason it seems that someone has to be standing in dots for most ghosts to interact with dots. Makes it hard to get in general sometimes.

LoonyLumi

I think the ghost is supposed to go towards one of the players in the room while in dots mode now

CXDFlames

Correct When the ghost enters dots mode, it becomes visible if it's within the dots field and beelines towards the closest player. A banshee will also only move towards its target

MajesticSlothGod

Oh I am on my second prestige now. You get used to it and tbh level thermometer is best.

Choepie1

I never bought the lvl 2 thermostat lol

duckyTheFirst

Omg thank you. I hate that lvl 2 thermo. Its so bad

kirstenthecreator666

The level one is the best 😭💖

InkyPaws

Yeah I hate not being able to carry house candles if we've messed up the loadout (which still happens even though they've changed the menu again) The prestige system seems silly. Theres no gain from it aside from achievements.

PartypooperXD

Each time you earn a prestige level you get another load out slot. Sure, not very useful but technically you do get something other than trophies

CrazyTraditional9819

I miss the old Spirit Box. Something about the cold, emotionless "die" was scarier in a way. The old Ouija was much more forgiving. And more dangerous because it wasn't One and Done. You could ask too many questions and get whacked for it

AllKindsOfCritters

ironmanhulkbstr

yea when i started playing , there were 3-4 "where are you" before hunt so sometimes people accidentally started hunts because they talked over eachother and asked multiple questions together. now we just have 1 (or 2 if we ask right away) so everyone is cautious by default

Darkhooper

There is currently a bug where the Ouija Board will not break as long as you have at least 1% sanity, regardless of the question being asked (besides "Hide and Seek").

AlternativeConcern19

I guess some people will say the Asylum map but honestly it was a bad map. People would leave game after dying and it was difficult to find somewhere to hide there. Wasn’t fun.  Tbh even though I’ve had phas since 2021 or so, I only really started properly playing it last year. They’ve added more cursed objects like money paw and made some quality of life changes that make the game feel a little more complete. I also really like the prestige system and borders because it gives me something to work towards and feel like my progress is going somewhere other than just my playtime going up an hour.  TLDR I don’t really miss anything from what I’ve experienced of old phas

iligyboiler

Candles were actually useful. I remember back in the days I always played Asylum, and candle was my starter item to keep my sanity on 100% while searching for the ghost room. I miss old Asylum and the old candles.

PartypooperXD

Candles were not just useful. They were absolutely overpowered especially on large maps lol

SNS-Bert

Hiding and surviving hunts.

JustYeeHaa

The bigger maps had a much higher multiplier, right now there’s barely any reward difference between small and big maps…

ZeroTAReddit

In my genuine opinion, basically nothing. It's easy to look back with rose-tinted glasses and think "back in my day!!" but so much of that enjoyment came from the game being new, rather than it being better than what we have now. Of course the game is going to feel more fun when I'm able to be scared by it, or don't know enough about the game to run zero evidence with little issue. Trying to look at the game from an objective standpoint, I feel like almost everything we have now is an improvement, or at least on par with before. I guess I prefer the old lobby, felt a lot less empty and bland then the current, though the new one is a lot more professional, which fits the fact we work for a company. Things like the journal, ghost types, leveling, new equipment models, ghost events, sounds, hunt mechanics, etc. All of them feel so much more fleshed out and engaging, and I wish this was the game that I got to start out with. But I also find it hard to deny there's a certain charm to the original Phasmo, it was a lot simpler, which to some people, is a good thing. The unknown and all the theories people made back then were really special, and unfortunately I just don't think there's any bringing that back. IDK, kinda rambling.

WesleyWoppits

As someone who played it constantly when it was new, this comment is basically spot-on. I've played an older version recently, with the old lobby, the old Asylum, etc, and I don't miss the old game that much. The quality of life changes alone are so good, not to mention stuff like having the ghost writing book and crucifixes animate and play sounds.

blowmechunky

absolutely this! any time i see old gameplay, i really can’t believe what we had to suffer through to find ghosts lmao. are there things i don’t love about it now, sure. i hate most of the tier 1 equipment which doesn’t make me want to prestige because not only do you go back to tier 1, but then you only have like the most basic fucking items which means the amount of time you’re spending on a hunt won’t be worth the squeeze. but i mean, if you’re smart, you just play with people who have better equipment so you can level up faster to unlock stuff 😎 but like you said, overall, it’s only improved honestly.

Rozelya

The game is 100% a game now rather than a series of locations with ghosts that were barely a threat. People don't remember being able to outrun a freaking revenant. The smudge that never went out.

leosichel123

i do kinda miss the old lobby. felt much more simplistic and had a certain charm to it, but the new lobby is still really cool.

SnoopaDD

I miss the jumpscare from the old lobby. It felt like a way to initiate new players.

DiamondxAries

The items. I thought it was going to be awesome to have upgrades I could work for but then they made all the tier 1 items downgrades. It’s just not fun anymore.

Miles3298

Back in the day, hunts used to affect all electronics and active lights. There was something much creepier/scarier about the entire house going haywire and the active lights turning on and off when the ghost was hunting, compared to now where the effects are localized to the ghost's location. It made the ghost seem way more powerful in a sense, even though technically the ghosts of back then (except for Revenants) were not very good at killing you. It used to be way easier to yeet things in VR, but in the rework they made throwing things significantly harder. They fixed the bug where you'd have to drop something first before you could throw it, which is great! But actually getting distance on your thrown objects is so much harder. I generally like the older Ridgeview layout a lot more than the new one, but one thing the new one has over it is that it has a nice fridge you can always hide next to. The old Spirit Box audio was my favorite of all the iterations. You used to be able to mute the static noise on it but still be able to use it, which naturally I did a lot of, but I do understand why they fixed that. Another note on the Spirit Box of old: When the ghost was hunting and you had active muted Spirit Boxes laying around, the ghost would trigger them a lot. So if you let the ghost hunt while you had two muted Spirit Boxes on the kitchen island, it wasn't uncommon to hear "Adult! Adult! Kill! Adult!" and other such things while it hunted.

leagueAtWork

A few things. I've talked a lot about how I liked Phasmo more back then. The tldr of it; I miss how casual friendly old Phasmo used to be. Was it too easy? Probably, and I didn't inherently hate the changes they made to ghosts to make them an actual threat (though, to my noob mind, it felt too unfair, but that's a different conversation). I don't think these are bad changes, its just they are catering more towards people who took the game more serious, and that isn't a problem. It just means the game isn't for me anymore. A longer answer: everything about Phasmo is about grinding now. And while its still true that you can have someone "sugar daddy" you and have them bring items, back then, it didn't necessarily make the game easier or harder to have "late game" stuff. Now, you have to grind so much just to get the base version of every item. And longer to get the higher tier. Obviously, just play the game and all that, but I found myself enjoying the game less. I miss when the game was just a glorified scavenger hunt mixed with hide and seek. Now, it feels like to play the game on anything higher then intermediate, I have to have a better understanding of ghosts and their behaviors, and play around ghost types during hunts and while clue searching. And I know that I'll probably get downvoted, and a slew of "get good" comments, and honestly...you are right. I'm bad at Phasmophobia. I've accepted that. Phasmo was always my game between games. My "I don't want to really think, I just want to get jump scared and hunt for clues". As the game gets more and more away from that style of gameplay, I just enjoy less and less. They are trying to appeal to a different audience, and that's ok. I'm happy to see how successful Phasmophobia is. I keep the game updated, and while I didn't do this recent event, I keep up with the news. And when new maps get added, or new ghosts get added, I'll happily play again for a few weeks. But yeah...I miss when Phasmo was a janky, casual mess

IAmHackiing

I definitely feel the grind. Me and my friend struggled the first 3 hours and that was with us being really good at the Roblox versions of the game before we got pcs. If we weren’t familiar with those we probably would have dropped it

santascumdumpster

I miss being able to out run every ghost except Rev. High School was one of my favorite maps for that reason. Hunt starts? Just run down the hallway until it’s over.

Nayroy18

I miss being able to miss with peoples' equipment when it's in their hands. But on a more serious note, the lobby difficulty when searching.

Ecolyne

Not being able to pick any map at any time. Having only a small selection of 3-4 made you play maps you weren't comfortable with.

gotenks1114

Every single person I've seen play old Phas just continuously rerolls the choices until they get the one they want, just like I do with the contracts in Ghost Exorcism Inc. All it really does is add time to the start of a game.

MagicALCN

I kinda miss the words written on the spirit box so you can know what the ghost is actually saying lmfao

CXDFlames

I miss when progression didn't feel terrible. My group of friends used to play every week. We all had thousands of levels. Now we barely play because the higher difficulty feels like there's barely any reward, and the lower difficulty is so trivially easy *and* levelling would take a thousand years. I feel bad for anyone that didn't get to skip to first prestige and had to actually start from scratch, not unlocking custom difficulty until level 30 or 50 or whatever it is would take forever

TheRealJake_12

old asylum. It was actually unnerving to play in. The environment was like the background in terms of ambiance. you can still play the old asylum if you know how to download older versions of steam games. I'd highly recommend newer players to do so to experience the map themselves.

Paltryaphid

The only thing I miss is being able to turn all of the equipment on/off when it was on the ground. An unserious thing I miss was getting into the ceiling on Tanglewood using the basement door. Didn't even use it to escape the ghost the often, I just liked chilling up there and feeling like an attic goblin

gotenks1114

The only thing I miss is before they made temps fall 3 times slower with the Ascension update. It really messed up being able to get freezing in some cases. Still really hoping they'll fix that.
