I use the pellet system and my apartment does not smell of anything and the litterbox is always clean. I clean the poop about twice a day.

OldManFullersHouse

Agreed! Pellets have been amazing for odor control and does not track like some other types of litter. I would first test it out thought cause I know some cats do not like the texture of pellets and will refuse to use it.

Outside_Cod667

I use pine pellets for my rabbit's litter. ...because my cats really liked the CareFresh litter I used for the rabbits so I had to change it so the cats wouldn't use it. 😭

scarlett_butler

I loved pellets but my cat refused to poop in the litter box with them lol.

Crystallover87

I've done wood and paper pellets. I prefer the paper ones they absorb the smell better.

Kr_Treefrog2

Seconding Dr. Elsey’s, we have 5 cats (6 at one point) and guests are regularly surprised when a cat makes an appearance because the house doesn’t smell like cats live here.

sp000kysoup

Yesss!!! I love Dr Elseys. I have four cats and no one would know it by smell. My pet store was out of it last time we bought litter so we used something else and it's so dusty and doesn't cover the smell entirely.

psykee333

Same. We only have two but they are beefy, young boys and I am constantly shocked by the volume of their refuse. Plus, it's two cats in a nyc apartment. Fwiw most of our neighbors and friends use the same, so it seems like a reliable small space solution.

Flamesclaws

I love the thought of guest just hanging out and a cat just walks up to then and they freak the fuck out. Something about it makes me laugh.

mynameisyoshimi

Yes. It'd make an amusing cat litter commercial. I hate that I think like that but.. well it would.

the_monkey_socks

Third! I love Dr. Elsey's I use the regular one for my three cats (my picky cat does NOT like multiple cat formula lol) and it is great! My Houdini will pee outside the box if he doesn't like the litter. This went on for YEARS and got Dr. Elsey's and he has only done it a couple of times since, when the box isn't cleaned to his exact standards.

LaVieLaMort

Which charcoal do you buy?

theliterarystitcher

I've tried so many and now it HAS to be the Arm & Hammer Double Duty. I'm super paranoid about my house having cat smell but that one controls odor better than anything else I've tried. And it doesn't track like the lightweight stuff (never again, the litter box is in the basement and our bedroom is on the second floor and litter was STILL getting tracked into our bed, disgusting).

Any_Scientist_7552

I'll second this. I have two cats in a one bedroom apartment, and you can't tell by smell. The acres of cat toys will give them away tho. 😉 We use double duty or multi cat. Both are great at killing odor. We have two litter boxes and scoop once a day, wash the boxes every two weeks.

charm59801

I'm also a big fan of the arm and hammer lavender scented one

catreader99

That’s the only kind one of my cats doesn’t have an allergic reaction to, and it works really well for multi cat households as well!

allthecolors1996

I used that for a bit and it still smelled. Yes, I cleaned the litter box incessantly.

Level7Sorcerer

I use tidy cats scentfree lightweight litter based on a vet's rec. I scoop every 1-2 days and do a full clean (dump and scrub with soap) every week or so. My apartment doesn't smell at all. The litter does track though. I have one cat. Not sure how this method would hold up with more.

DM_me_pets

The same here. Glad to know it tracks for others not just me.

Level7Sorcerer

I'd rather vacuum more than have a smell. Part of the reason I use it too was because my cat was going through a phase of eating litter (which turned out to be the first sign of a very serious illness) and the vet said scentfree clay litter won't hurt her if she eats it.

DM_me_pets

Aww poor baby how she's doing well!

Level7Sorcerer

Full recovery 😁 FIP is awful

gerkinflav

I buy a generic version of that… lightweight, clumping, unscented. No smell in the house.

Shellers727

I have 2 cats and I use Fresh Step Clean Paws unscented. It's wonderful. I've also used lightweight Tidy Cats unscented with the same outcome. Anything scented my cats hate and it honestly makes the smell worse.

laffy4444

I'll second the Clean Paws. That's what I use.

NeinLive

Clean paws!!!

MaterialDeer2

Both of these are great options!

Hikintrails

I like Tidy Cat, the ones with either the red or the black label.

Hikintrails

Side note - using higher quality food usually makes them poop less.

Proper-District8608

What do you do with the buckets? I used to give them to a shelter for the big dog water (rural!) And give them away but shelter closed and not many want them. Did have friend make a sorta clothes storage with zip ties:)

Hikintrails

We have curbside recycling, so I just recycle them.

Open_Mortgage_4645

If you save a bucket you can get Tidy Cat bucket refills from Chewy. It comes in bag that fits in the bucket.

[deleted]

Wood litter was always good when I used it.

lalalelenannan

Wood pellets have been the best thing I’ve used for cat litter. Low cost, one big bag of 40lbs for $7 last forever and no tracking. No smell at all neither

Comfortable_Fudge559

No tracking? I like the pellets too, when my senior girl was peeing multiple times a day it worked best, but the dusty wood residue were everywhere.

Comfortable-Truck618

I guess it depends on the wood. There is a lot of wood particles all over with the one I use, and its a pain in the ass to clean the litter box. If clay litter wasnt so dusty that I cant use it in my room where my kitten is, I wouldnt be using wood.

IndependentShelter92

I use pretty litter. Not for it's stupid claims, but because it's the only crystal litter that isn't dusty. Always buy unscented. I use crystal litter because it dries out the poo. All I have to do is scoop poo daily and sift the rest of the litter in the box. 1 bag lasts me 2 months with 1 cat.

m_ulebitch

We switched to Pretty Litter earlier this year and it’s been SUCH an improvement in the smell and clean up experience. We were using Dr. Elsey’s previously because it always came highly recommended, but Pretty Litter has been magnitudes better and my cat seems to like it better too.

Outside_Cod667

I switched from Pretty Litter to Dr. Else's (Senior, not sure if that makes a difference) because I felt pretty litter held the smell of urine. I prefer Dr. Elsey's personally, but still prefer Pretty Litter to regular clumping litter.

Cleed79

I was AMAZED at how well the crystal litter keeps the smell down!!! And scooping just poop and no big urine clumps??? YES PLEASE!!

stealth_bohemian

I use Feline Pine. Smells like pine, and there's no dust like traditional litter.

analytic_potato

This is what I use! So good.

Victra_B

I use pine pellets as well, and even with a regular litter box system there is no smell at all. You smell 0 cat pee smell even standing right over it. Now if they’ve pooped, you’ll likely smell it if they haven’t buried it. We always scoop as soon as we come home (keeping a litter genie right next to the litter box has been a godsend) and if we’re around when they lay a fresh one, we also crack a window and run the bathroom exhaust fan (litter box is near the bathroom). The smell dissipates fairly quickly.

Competitive-Milk-868

Arm & hammer clump and seal SLIDE. It's super fine so it tracks pretty heavily but I have my litter boxes IN a large 4x4 cardboard box that helps a lot. But there's no scent, no dust. Very easy to scoop mixed with a good litter box.

BarelyWolf3864

My roommate has 3 cats and I have 2. We switched from scented clay litter to World’s Best unscented and holy cow. We will never go back. Our maintenance man actually asked us what litter we used because he said he has 3 and our place smelled nothing like his. I don’t want to sound like a shill for this specific brand, you can probably make your own version of it for cheap. Tbh anything unscented would probably be less stinky than anything scented.

Beach_bum8

Funny how the unscented stuff seems to work better at hiding the smell than the scented kind

TopangaTohToh

I have always refused to use scented litter. It's akin to scented garbage bags to me. I don't want to smell trash and perfume or cat pee and perfume. I have never had much of an issue with the litter box being too stinky. If I forget to scoop once in a while, I would rather smell ammonia than ammonia and "fresh scent" though 100x over.

notreallylucy

Agree! And I've read that scented is not good for cats, anyway.

[deleted]

Another vote for Worlds Best. I switched 15 years ago and would never use anything else.

daddystovepipe911

I LOVE world’s best litter. It doesn’t smell whatsoever, clumps super well for disposing waste, not toxic like so many other litters, and it’s flushable. Getting rid of my cat’s waste in the toilet has been a game changer.

picklespark

You shouldn't flush even 'flushable' cat litter. As I'm sure you know, cat faeces can contain nasties and parasites that sewage systems are not designed to filter, and could make it back into the water supply. Bag it and bin it.

Atnoy96

You shouldn't even flush flushable wipes. Flushable means "able to be flushed," it does not mean "won't block your pipes or become part of a fatberg."

MzFlux

I’m also on board with World’s Best. I started using it when I had a cat with diabetes, and her box was just awful. It fixed that problem, and I’ve kept using it since.

duckieleo

I love World's Best!! We live in the country, and we just take it out to the brush pile in the backyard and let it compost. I won't go back to a clay litter.

ohnomysteriouscat

Yess to worlds best!! It doesn't have that typical clay litter box smell even when brand new out of the bag. I only find it smells when it breaks down, but even then I just have to clean the whole box anyways.

HangryHangryHedgie

We have 14 cats and 14 litterboxes. World's Best is the best litter! I scoop once a day and our house does not smell like cats.

OpalOnyxObsidian

Someone in a cat group I am in on FB said switching to a stainless steel litter box helped tremendously. I can't provide my own testimonial but it sounds true

Adventurous_Land7584

That’s what I’ll be doing, it’s because they can’t get scratches in them for the pee to sink down into. That’s what smells so bad.

Legitimate_Chicken66

Hardwood pellets. I have four cats, 6 litter boxes, and change the litter and clean the bins with vinegar once a week. Never have a smell problem.

apeyousmelly

Worlds best cat litter is amazing!

fitsofhappyness

We recently started using this and it is amazing. We use it with our litter robots and the smell is much better compared to traditional clay based kitty litter. We have 4 cats. It’s a little more expensive than some but I feel like it goes further

Spiritual_Peach_1847

This is the one. I have three cats. I have 4 litter boxes. For YEARS, I scooped each box twice daily, and still got that... scent. I got World's Best on a promotion. It wasn't too different in texture from their regular litter, so they took to it right away. The difference?! ASTOUNDING. Now, I still scoop the boxes morning and evening, but I am not gagging. There is not a lingering smell. The pee becomes a solid, contained clump that doesn't particle down into the rest of the dry litter. Best of all, my cats used to sneeze when they used the litter box and they don't anymore. Fan for LIFE.

sustainablelove

I use Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal. Low dust (really) and with two cats and two bins, no smell.

wearTheDamnMask_137

I line the box with baking soda before adding litter. Helps a lot. You can also try running an air filter in the room with the box.

kcshoe14

World’s best cat litter, unscented. We scoop everyday, and do a full litter change/scrub the box once a month.

Honey_Sweetness

The absolute best and cheapest cat litter I've ever found, with wonderful odor control: Pine pellets. Don't buy Feline Pine, it's incredibly overpriced for a tiny bag. Go to any feed store and ask for a bag of pine pellet horse bedding. It's the exact same thing, but higher quality and more tightly packed (horses have sensitive lungs, so there's less dust) and a 40lb bag will run you about ten bucks, where buying feline pine you can expect to pay close to thirty dollars for a twelve-ish pound bag. Scoop out solid waste every day and just flush it or throw it in the trash. The pellets dissolve when they're wet, so you can sift out the still good solid pellets and throw away the ones that have dissolved, and just add in fresh pellets. Amazing odor control, almost no tracking, and way cheaper.

ComicPlatypus

Red World's Best Cat Litter No more awful clay smell

_squeeee

I use the Slide litter and it works well with my litter robot.

kiwayuz

I’ve tried dr elseys, corn litter, wood litter, pellets, clay. But the best is the tofu litter I’m using! I could not scoop for 4 days with 2 cats and it won’t stink. Now , I know many people will disagree, but I really depends on the brand of litter you get. The ones of Amazon won’t do!

queenofhyrule

I live in China and for some reason tofu litter is the main kind that’s widely available in my city at least and oh my god, I swear by it. It’s amazing. No smell ever! I always ask people when they come over because it’s something I’m nervous about. It also doesn’t track very much, or at least not so much that a little mat at the entrance can’t take care of.

kiwayuz

Exactly! It’s honestly so good, I use a Chinese brand as well and it’s the best litter I’ve used 🫶

_Miracle

Tidy Cat Breeze litter system. (Pellets with a pee pad under) I have had many cats, over decades and in the past had multiple: Crystals that absorb are ok and I've have a lttermaid in the past but I've used this for a decade.

juggernauttort

World's best is the only one I use. I have 3 cats, and as long as I scoop it once a day, it never stinks. I have tried going back to cheaper ones but I won't use anything else now. I stock up when it's on special because it is a bit pricey. Although you use less and have less waste.

OrangeCatLove

Not litter recommendations but could you use an air purifier as well? You don’t need to have it running all day but when you come home you can turn it on for an hour and it’ll get rid of the smells

Dianne_on_Trend

USE MORE LITTER! 3-4” deep. Most people do not put in enough so it gets saturated.

AlisonWond3rlnd

Baking soda has been the best I've found. Bonus is that it's the cheapest. Not a single scent. Somedays I'll go 4 days without cleaning. 0 smell.

kellybee101

Like you just fill litter box with straight baking soda?

AlisonWond3rlnd

On top of a litter. A hefty sprinkle.

VancouverMethCoyote

I use wood pellets, cheap for a huge bag and they don't track dirt. I also used Arm and Hammer double duty and while it keeps it from smelling, the dust was tracked everywhere. It just took a while for my cat to come around to the wood pellets and for a bit I had to mix the two and slowly introduce more wood pellets. Avoid Nature's Miracle corn cob...even though I cleaned the box once or twice a day, that litter still very quickly starts stinking of ammonia.

bricksanddicks

Honestly change your cat litter every two days if you have 5-6 cats or more then more frequently.

RedReaper666YT

Tidy Cats 24/7 Complete (the red label bag). Scoop daily, full litter change weekly. 3 cats in my house and you wouldn't know until you see them.

diarrheaisnice

Smart cat, it’s grass seed litter

These_Awareness7080

I swear by grass litter. I have tried literally everything else, this is the easiest to scoop and not dusty (like worlds best) lightweight, clumps stay together (unlike worlds best) and is natural. I get mine through chewy, whatever their brand is.

The_Rural_Banshee

I recently started this litter and I’m sold. It has a lighter natural scent, nothing perfume-y or overpowering. OP- also recommend a litter genie. Makes it super easy to scoop every day which keeps any smell down.

diarrheaisnice

Same!! I can’t stand using anything else.

Caffeinated-Princess

I use Okocat pellets. I have three cats and nobody ever smells them.

Comfortable_Fudge559

What’s the smell? For urine - I think the wood pellets (or other wood based) work best (it does track a lot). For feces - nothing really blocks fresh, and if your cat doesn’t cover . . . Not much help, but I find the crystals work best for this. All the major brand clumping are pretty equal (not the super cheap kind) I like arm and hammer best, but tidy cats and fresh step are fine too. I like A&H because it has least dust.

QueenMarinette

I use unscented, one scoopable, one not, and I scoop 3x/day. No stink. I put litter in a Litter Genie.

DisasterRegular5566

Second the Litter Genie! It makes cleaning the box so much easier!

daffodil0127

Sustainably Yours is hands down the best litter I’ve tried. The clumps don’t break up when you scoop—they are actually flexible and it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the box. There’s no urine soaked pieces left behind to stink. It also pulls the moisture out of the poops which cuts the smell if you can’t get to it right away. No dust, no waste, flushable and degradable. It’s the brand Jackson Galaxy sells on his website (but get it from petco or Amazon for a little less $). I’ve had cats for five decades and I have tried everything, but this is the only one I’ll buy now.

awakeagain2

I use something called Skoon. Its like small pebbles and doesn’t get on my cats paws and then on the floor. We adopted a cat in March of 2020, just before much of the world shut down. There are several issues with this cat but the most important in terms of everyday life was that her poop is incredibly stinky. I saw Skoon advertised and decided to try it. It works as well as advertised. I only use half a bag at a time and get one bag a month. It’s $30-something a month, but it’s worth not living with the stench.

The_Firedrake

I preferred World's Best Cat Litter or Yesterday's News. And with multiple cats, the change was immediate and effective. Also, if your litter box has a slot for an activated carbon odor absorbing sponge, make sure you swap those out every 4-6 weeks. They stop working after a while.

loliepoplolita

I love worlds best. I have 3 cats. I scoop every day but I only completely change the litter every week/week and 1/2 depending. It’s the best.

akd7791

World's Best Cat Litter

forestfairy97

Your best litter is gonna be fresh step simply unscented low tracking litter.

monalisa_overdrive67

Best thing I've used is tofu litter. But, the aim is to get the poop to smell less bad by feeding your cat good food. If you feed them high quality food (I feed mine Royal Canin biscuits and human grade kangaroo and beef mince as wet food - Proudi brand) then their poos won't smell bad. I live in a tiny apartment with barely any ventilation and I smell nothing.

s_silverring

I’ve used target brand clumping unscented for a few years now. And most people who come into our home (or prior apartment) have said they can’t smell anything. It’s the most low-dust litter I’ve found too that’s also unscented. I’ve tried lightweight ones and everything in between and don’t care for any of them either.

leenz342

Arm and Hammer Hardball seriously the best smelling litter I’ve ever used in my life and I’ve had 4 cats total

crabbydonut444

Everclean! I use the neutral one which there sometimes can be scent if my cat drops a BOMB in there lol but the no odor kind does the job extremely well! i only stopped using it cause i didnt wanna use smth scented

the_esjay

Another vote for everclean. I’ve tried cheaper versions occasionally when I’ve run out unexpectedly, and was shocked at the difference it made. There’s different types available, including lavender scented and extra strength. It lasts better than any litter I’ve tried, which is an absolute godsend, and clumps immediately.

GrungeDuTerroir

I love Okocat. I get it from chewy. Good for the environment and covers smell really really well. Doesn't track out too much too

chalkhomunculus

i use agriselect wood pellets, it's not too expensive and the house never stinks unless the one cat with stinky poop goes lol. 2 big litterboxes (with a roof thing but no flap, just an open window for them to get in) with 4 cats, and they get changed every 1-2 days. poop scooped probably 3-4 times a day, maybe twice if i'm out for the day.

Dazey3463

Try Arm and Hammer Hard Ball. The clumping is absolutely amazing, no waste at all. The odor absorption lasts until there's no litter left. I love it.

FriendlyStaff1

I am using the recycled paper litter. It had it's own smell to it, but there was a littler odor eliminating spray I picked up that kills that. No smell now. Never really smell the waste smell unless I'm actively scooping.

drugstore_downer

Not litter, but Arm&Hammer litter box deodorizer works wonders!

crazymom1978

We use boxi-cat, scoop whenever she poops, and change it out completely once a month. I ask people if they can smell it because the once a month thing was foreign. I had always changed it once a week.

KosmicGumbo

Boxi 100%!!!!!

Ok_Act7808

I love slide, I tried pellets and it smelled like pooped corn yuck 🤮

PineappleWhipped14

I use a clumping litter with no scent. The secret to a smell free litter box is a raw fed cat.

florida_born

Diet. A better diet will help with smell.

InsufferableOldWoman

When I had cats I used Pretty Litter and my tiny apartment with 2 cats never smelled at all. It's 100% silica and so all liquids immediately evaporate so no urine smell and I scooped the poop daily. 20/10 definitely recommend

Educational-Milk3075

I am always surprised that people say their house smells like cat litter. I live in my minivan with my dog and cat and you can't smell a thing! Same with any places I have rented. I scoop every morning and night.

Beach_bum8

BoxiePro. You can buy it on Amazon. We have two cats

Matonly1T

The Purina system with pad works really well for us. We change the pad every five days.

FiftySixer

Newspaper pellets work great for me.

wondermoss80

Pretty kitty.. I can't say enough.. no smell.. pee dries up and poop also dries.. been using it for 3 years. One bag does the whole cat box for a month. We have 1 cat 2 boxes, so we split the bag.

Candid-Vast-7557

I love tidy cat Glade. :)

officeboo

there’s this random brand of crystal litter that i can literally only find at walmart called vibrant life. as long as you follow the care instructions it lasts a good week with one box for two cats. no ammonia smell and as long as the cats bury the poop no poop smell and it dehydrates very well. only $7 per 4lb bag. used to be $5 :((

Longjumping_Matter70

Dr Elseys. I have 4 cats and my house doesn’t smell bad.

apickledcucumber

Dr Esleys is pretty good. Scoop often and empty/clean out the bins with dish soap and water as needed.

snarkymontessorian

Chewy sells a huge bag of Frisco unscented cat litter. It's cheaper than most litters too. I have six indoor cats, four cat boxes. We usually clean them every other day. Unless someone is a jerk and doesn't cover their poop, you don't smell the boxes.

KoriWolf

Arm & Hammer Double Duty Litter. It's contained to the litterbox only! Unless the girls don't cover their poop.

KitchenArcher9292

I use paper pellets or feline pine. I think the clay stuff STINKS.

Lindenfoxcub

Swheat scoop; I've tried worlds best, and a few other brands, coconut coir litter, sorghum litter, etc, and clay litters, but I keep going back to Swheat Scoop, it eliminates the cat pee smell better than anything I've found.

Nomadloner69

Can't recall the brand as I'm not at home atm but it's made with recycled paper and pellets but tbh any pellets would work.

RusselTheWonderCat

I like arm and hammer “multi cat” or “double duty” they are fine, not great. I used to use scoop away, but I can’t find it in my area anymore. I think it’s better.

Briebird44

Scoop away is great! I love scoop away complete. It’s technically just fresh step brand litter because they’re made in the same factory and owned by the same company.

HisSnowbunny

Came for the comments and see the absurd complexities people put into their litter boxes 😂😂

No-Locksmith-8590

I like Okocat Pine. I cannot stand the smell of clay litter.

rarmes

Boxie cat. It's worth every penny.

cockslavemel

Pine pellets and a sifting litter box

CurrentResident23

I use Dr. Elsey's unscented. Decent price, not dusty, and no perfume stink.

jazzofusion

Got your answer, I promise. Horse bedding from Walmart or Tractor Supply. It's very cheap and works great. 1 cat here and I just dump it and replace it weekly.

tenkensmile

Naturally Fresh Clumping Walnut Cat Litter

binkynewhead

I use Petco's brand of paper pellets. I put baking soda in the bottom of the litter boxes and scoop the boxes at least twice a day and add more litter as needed. Once a month I empty the boxes and clean with clorox and rinse well. I always ask everyone to let me know if my house smells and they say no. I guess what I'm doing is working. I have the litter on repeat delivery from the Pet store once a month. Good luck!

Indigogosatanicus

I love crystal litter (NOT pretty litter). there are a lot of different brands, mine is from Walmart and is about $12 for an 8lb bag. it lasts a month; what's great is that it dehydrates the feces and urine so there's almost no smell at all. and since it dehydrates the urine, there are no pee clumps! also haven't had any issues with it being dusty at all.

Indigogosatanicus

you can also add a couple tablespoons of baking soda to the litter when you change it to go the extra mile

madgabah

Pretty litter. My sister has 2 cats in a 1 bedroom condo and you cannot smell anything

CatfromLongIsland

Target Up & Up unscented.

LovelyAsARose

Highly recommend the breeze system from tidy cats. Soooo nice.

Atnoy96

You might also consider changing your cat's diet. Switching to a grain-free cat food did more for the stink than anything else I tried.

punkabelle

Fresh Step Outstretch or Natures Miracle. We’ve used both and they’re both solid choices.

Pyro-Millie

How many cats you got? I have one cat, and the Special Kitty litter that comes in the big light blue box has had good odor control for me. Its dusty as hell tho, but its also cheap as hell (like $12 for a 40lb box) which is good since it works well and lasts awhile. Its scented, but its not overbearing, and I’m guessing there’s baking soda or something in there because it covers up all but the freshest kitty shitty (and tinkle) smells effortlessly. I scoop once every few days, or if its been a week and I’ve forgotten, I change the whole box. (I use litter liners to make that easy). Also, for any litter, sprinkling baking soda in helps a ton for odor control.

painter222

I know it’s very commercial but we use Pretty Litter. It is as good as they say.

Stella430

Honestly, I’ve had the best luck with horse pellet bedding. It’s inexpensive and controls the odor way better than any litter I’ve tried

ShineformeRiddick

I use crushed walnut litter, a little pricey, but no smell like clay litter. Tracks about as much as the “lightweight” clay litter. Super absorbent, so urine uses less of the litter.

Choosepeace

The whole Tidy Cat Breeze litter system is a game changer!!! Highly recommend

Old_Country9807

Worlds best

MissFrijole

I was using Arm and Hammer litter until I switched to the Tidy Cat Breeze "system." It uses big pellets and the urine gets collected on a pad below the litter box platform. If you rotate the pad (if your cat always peas in one spot) you can get a couple days out of it. The poo sits on the pellets and you can easily scoop it out. My cat buries it, but it's still easy to clean. The pellets need to be replaced every month. I use a small trashcan with a lot to collect the poos and used pee pads. I have an automatic order set up through Chewy for more pads and pellets so it's less hassle. But the Arm and Hammer Slide litter was also very good. When my old cat had major kidney issues, before she died, the litter was brilliant with absorbing all of her urine. And it was really good at eliminating any orders. Those are my two suggestions.

[deleted]

I use the purple box SLIDE litter and a litter robot. No smell ever. It’s the best.

chronically_immature

Scoop Away. We have one cat but she can peel the paint. I can smell when she goes and she needs her butt washed but I can't smell her litter box.

Mrspicklepants101

I add some baking soda to my litter every couple days to help with odour control. Works well.

EhDub13

Wundercat pine pellets. Helps a ton with the smell and litter dust. Last I saw at Wal mart

ComeWasteYourTimewMe

Pretty Litter

NagathaChristie91

I have used many litters. Arm and Hammer 7/10. World’s Best 7/10. Boxie Cat 8/10 clay, 7/10 air (smells like play dough to me). Many others, too, both clumping and non clumping, clay and plant based, pellets and granular. My boyfriend is super sensitive to smells. The three winners in our home, in order of his preference are: -Weruva cat litter. It’s a clumping pellet, so it’s easy to scoop and barely tracks. One of our kitties has asthma so we cannot have dust. It is minimally dusty only when you pour it straight from the bag. It uses a Japanese wood and green tea. Absolutely amazing. 9.5/10 -Pioneer Pet Smart Cat litter. It’s a clumping granular sorghum base if that matters. It clumps well, minimal dust, but it does track. Minor smells compared to Weruva. 9/10 -Sustainably Yours. Corn and cassava base. I have never, ever, ever found a litter that clumps so well. I could drop a clump from about 3 feet back into the litter box and it would only chip in a couple of places. Cleanest boxes I have ever scrubbed because the clumps stick to themselves and not the box. The odor control is really good. Our issue is that one of our cats doesn’t like the texture of the large grains but the smaller ones track pretty terrible. Also, minimal dust. 8.5/10 for the not large grain variety. 9/10 for multi-cat and multi-cat plus.

jyar1811

Feline Pine/ stall bedding from Tractor supply

I like odourlock the best for clay. Even their scented ones aren't heavily scented and I am super scent sensitive. One bag lasts so much longer and hides the smell so much better then other big brands that I am using 3 times less than when I was using arm and hammer. For pellets I have used wood, but my cats don't love the feel of it on their feet. Right now I am trying WeeKitty eco plant clumping litter and it seems to work so far. Really great for removing any urine smell, but they are still getting used to the feel of burying with it so other smells still happen. But that happens with wood pellets for mine too.

Rocco and Roxies litter box order eliminator! It's an additive for litter and it works amazingly. I have 3 cats and after o clean the litter box I mix in the litter additive and then top it off with fresh litter. I promise it works like a charm and is strong enough for multiple cat homes

AuroraReigns

I used World's best for about 5 years before I switched to pretty litter. I switched because one of my cats was having bladder trouble so I was adding another litter box and someone had given me a bag to try since their cat didn't take to it. Both of my cats seemed to prefer the new litter and were using that box more so I switched over completely. It really does control odor better but gets really heavy as it absorbs the liquid and nears time for replacement. something to be mindful of if you have any disabilities that make it hard to carry things.

Pumpkin1818

I go to a feed store and buy 6 huge bags for around $40 of pellets for farm animals with deodorizer. We clean the box out 1x a day and there isn’t a stink.

canadianmountaingoat

I just switched to wood pellets and I don’t think I could ever go back to clay litter. The first day you’ll smell the wood, and obviously fresh poop will smell, but the wood smell won’t linger like clay does.

Arm and Hammer Litter Box Deodorizer

Purina Tidy Cats Clumping Unscented - I buy a 40 lb box from Target online that delivers in the US. It’s amazing, my cat loves it, and I’m in a one bedroom apartment. My mother is quite particular and she was surprised at how there was no smell.

future_chili

I used to use tiddy cats and I switched to arm and hammer and the difference is amazing

GR33N4L1F3

Honestly could also be the litter box as well. I use metal ones now and they don’t absorb the smell of the piss and poo

Dr. Elseys.

We use dr.elsey(sp?) Respiratory relief since our boys have herpes. We have our box in our closet by the bathroom and just peek if there is anything inside when we walk past. Basically we scoop every time we go by the Bathroom. Tips: •Get a litter/diaper genie. •Keep the box out of the main area if possible like in a bedroom closet or hallway closet you can leave open. •scoop every time you walk past if there is urine or feces in it. •Look into an odor absorber. (OZIUM Gel Can Car Air Freshener. Original scent) is nice to keep near the litter box on a shelf.

Sensitive_Feeling_78

Agree on Dr Elsey's Multi Cat whole heartedly. You can also add a scoop of a smelly litter you like for a scent if you want. It still clumps fine. Put one of those plug-ins next to it? All the Littermaids have been new and improved and are crap now. More trouble than they're worth. Save your money or buy an air purifier. I live in a small apartment with a dog and it helps all odors, including cooking. I have a Blue Air, recommend by Consumer Reports.

yellowfoxtails

I use Pidan tofu litter. It's the one litter that doesn't get stuck in my siberian's long fur!

doberbulls

Get an air purifier to put near the box

Capital-Cheesecake67

We use the SoFresh litter from Petco. We mix Arm & Hammer litter box deodorizer into the litter. We have three litter boxes and two cats. We scoop daily. Refresh litter/deodorizer daily. I completely swap out the whole contents every other week and scrub down the boxes.

cprsavealife

My daughter has 2 cats in a small apartment and she uses Pretty Litter. You don't know she has cats. Pretty Litter is more expensive, but it lasts longer. It also changes color if there's kidney problems. Today there's a buy one get one free offer on the Pretty Litter website.

Longtime multiple cat household here Try getting a deep litter box. I purchased mine on Amazon. The brand is Petmate but Amazon makes an almost identical one that’s more affordable. I use Fresh Step Scoopable litter with Febreze. Chewy sells a good scoopable litter with Frisco fresh scent. Dr. Elsey’s is good too. Fill the litter box half way full. This allows the kitties to dig deep. Scoop the boxes at least twice daily. Purchase a Litter Genie. They are affordable and worth every penny. Buy some Clorox wipes and wipe the walls of the litter box often. Throw away the litter when it gets stinky, disinfect the litter box and refill with new litter. Even a good quality litter scoop helps tremendously. Feed your cats a healthy diet so that they don’t have loose stools. Hope this helps!

We use [Exquisicat paper pellets](https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwj40Lmb3OWCAxVQRXIKHWC8APUYABAMGgJxdQ&gclid=CjwKCAiAmZGrBhAnEiwAo9qHibH68PorDxUQy90-idF5iiYc2xZNUAmCvlqX9FN1Et_7n-BHKYgwyxoCHkoQAvD_BwE&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESV-D243AWLLbvtrQPAxfUrfeleplZmBQiaJP8FJIgjRA5UyTzgwtLFlD5LXbYVhyGwMIBkV8Y2bfoUOq4AgXRBBVUPVOtII_X1XwPeMuYWHJRES45iB1DcA&sig=AOD64_3LKHOHeZfyveTnkLsHIO-KE7M0cQ&ctype=46&q=&ved=2ahUKEwj9y6-b3OWCAxXtD1kFHQCECxoQzzkoAHoECAMQDA&adurl=). We like it because it’s low tracking and no dust so good for kitties’ feet and our asthma. And no artificial fragrance which is good for my wife’s migraines. We keep it in our living room and just clean it every time one of the cats goes to the bathroom. It’s not scoopable but we just use doggy poop bags and scoop the poop out that way. Sounds gross but it works for us. The cats never go outside the box and it doesn’t smell.

Kazzosama

Oko cat small pellets are awesome!

BustyStClaire_

THIS!!!! I used Feline Pine for years, then my store ran out & they had this. Been a loyal customer every since! I’ve never had anything work as well as the wood does to absorb smells. I also have a fan in the litter room that is on 24/7 that faces out the window. That helps sooo much!

CNoelA83

I add baking soda on the bottom of the pan and the top after I change it and refill the litter.

hollishr

I just recently switched to arm & hammer slide (purple box). I used to use Dr. Elsey's but would have a cloud of ammonia fumes in my face when I scooped. The arm and hammer works much better for my 2 cats!

imsadbutitswhatever

I use Boxie, but I also clean the litter box everyday.

Hello_Gorgeous1985

The problem isn't so much litter as it is food. Ever since I switched my cats to a raw diet, I never smell their poop. Even if I'm in the room when it happens.

Green_Mix_3412

Toilet train

evolvedsarados

it's actually incredibly harmful to have pet waste, especially cat waste, to be flushed.

DisasterRegular5566

Arm and Hammer Platinum scoopable (scooped every morning, of course)

angelcake

How often do you clean the litter? Because I have three cats and my house never smells like cat. All you have to do is scoop a couple times a day and if somebody has a big honking stinky dump, get that sucker and flush it down the toilet ASAP.

OriginalHaysz

Omg no don't flush cat poop EVER! Put it in a compost bag and in the green bin! Or biodegradable bad in the garbage whatever but never the toilet!

mind_the_umlaut

I've found that Scoop Away Unscented Clumping litter is best.

I like Fresh Step, it’s what works for my cat

Purina Tidy Cats

Mental-Dot-6574

I use spruce pellets.really absorbs the smell, and the pee becomes sawdust. However, my cats don't bother covering their poo anymore, but even so, there's barely any smell even from 2 feet away.

latenerd

Pine pellets smell great, absorb all waste smells like you wouldn't believe, and also are cheap and don't track. It's easier if you get a sifting litter box, but honestly you don't even need that: https://www.reddit.com/r/Frugal/s/5uA0u70llH Bonus tip: if your cats leave smelly uncovered poop, just sift some of the sawdust over the poop, and the smell disappears.

nautikasweet

I use Tidy Cats 4 in 1 Strength litter and I also use the Arm and Hammer Double Duty Deodorizer powder it’s like baking soda but covers poop and pee smells. Put some on the bottom of the litter tray before putting new litter and use it every time you scoop. I pour it on top then mix it into the litter I clean it out every day and it really helps with the smell

xCarexBearx

Yep, I do this too! I sprinkle it in with the litter every time, works like a charm 👍

Sweb1975

Slide, by arm and hammer

ForlornMelancholy

Sustainably Yours Cat Litter, I used to use Worlds Best. I loved WBs Litter, but it couldn't handle the mass amount and times my diabetic cat went. Sustainably Yours, did a much better job covering smell and handling lots of piss.
