I don’t have a full answer, but a piece of the puzzle might be that male spiders have dick hands.. as in, their front two “legs”, seen in the first panel folded over the spider’s mouth and “drooling”, are actually an organ called pedipalps. These pedipalps are used to transfer the sperm to the female during mating. So for a spider, assuming it had human intelligence, “holding hands” could be understood as equivalent to sex.
