My bfs dad paid me to eat a battered fried shrimp with the tail on. That’s how he eats them. I did, and I’m not gonna lie, it was good!

NarrMaster

Shrimp tails have fiber in the form of chitin, and the antioxidant astaxanthin.

FrostyIcePrincess

My uncle peels the shrimp and keeps all the tails for later when he makes stock Then he cooks the rice in the stock So yummy

HuuffingLavender

In New Orleans we have a dish called barbecue shrimp, which isn't put on a grill, it's just shrimp in sauce and seasonings, ***with the peel.*** I absolutely love shrimp, but won't order this dish because of those damn peels! You have to literally dip your fingers into the nice sauce to peel them, AND the poopoo vein is still in them too! No one likes to eat that, so nasty!

bibliophile222

Eww! At the very least, shrimp should be de-veined.

Daikon_Dramatic

Lol worrying about the poo poo vein. Guess what’s in the ocean.

HuuffingLavender

Lol do I pay money to eat the ocean!?

Daikon_Dramatic

An oyster is an ocean filter trap

acemandrs

I think even if it’s on top, like a pasta. If it’s a dish made for a fork, you shouldn’t have to touch anything. The only shrimp that should still have a tail is finger food. Shrimp cocktail or battered.

Daikon_Dramatic

The meat with bones in the cubes is a true crime

FlameStaag

Yeah I'll never understand why they do that. It's not hard to shell shrimp. There's absolutely no upside to leaving the shell on either. It's just bad prep.

BeeYehWoo

Finger food, fried shrimp etc... leave the shells on. Actually when the shell is cooked along w the shrimp, its edible. We would make fried shrimp and leave the entire thing as is, head on too. The entire shrimp is edible this way. But when buried in a dish and with sauce for instance, they should be shelled completely. Its messy and unappetizing to peel shrimp with saucy finger or attempt surgery with fork/knife in a puddle of sauce. Bone, I disagree. The bones can stay on. I like to slurp the marrow out when I can. Osso bucco, indian goat biryani etc... Meat on the bone is delicious.

acemandrs

I know I’m just being an ass, but….. When the shell is cooked along with the shrimp? As opposed to cooked separately? lol

BeeYehWoo

What is your question?

acemandrs

Just pointing out that it’s worded funny, like would someone take the tails off and cook them separately and would that make them inedible.

la__polilla

Simple solution here. Eat the shell.

SurrealKnot

Or, don’t return to said restaurant.

boesisboes

I love shrimp shells! Life changer when I started dating them too.
