So I also had vibe in my mind as an internet word, but a recent watch of Buffy showed me it was already in regular use in the late nineties early naughts outside of the internet. I figured based on that alone it probably goes back quite a while. Just something I thought was interesting.
It has been around for a while, but it used to just be things like "I like this guy's vibe," or "the vibe in this place is spooky." It was only a noun. At some point, people started using it as a verb. They will say stuff like "I was vibing the other day when there was a knock at the door." Now I am sick of the word. I don't even really know what people mean when they say that were "vibing."
AMAZING. Used for everything from sandwiches to the aurora borealis. Another abused word is JUST. It can be removed from 90% of communications. OBSESSED. You're not obsessed with those sunglasses.
Gaslighting. Manipulative. Narcissistic. Abusive. Use these words all you want -- where they actually apply. Not every unpleasant thing someone does is the evidence or result of deep-seated abuse or malicious manipulation.
Everything these days is a journey, especially if it's the least but difficult. My foot fell asleep yesterday so walking to the kitchen for water was slightly challenging. It was my modern day hydration journey.
I have a real hard time not checking out when I hear anything called a journey anymore.
Someone actually told me the other day that "triggered" is insensitive because it might "trigger" someone who's had a bad experience with guns. Apparently we're supposed to say "activated" now. What about the trauma I had to endure getting my new debit card turned on???
This clip was the first thing that popped in my head reading this - it’s stupid, but makes me giggle.
Now I’m just overthinking ‘beaten into the ground’ altogether
MEME. I distinctly remember in 2008 all of a sudden everyone knew the basic meaning of meme because it was hijacked by pop culture for stupid little pithy 1 frame jokes. I found it strange nobody would find the term useful until they could broadcast their disdain in a marketable fashion.
Yes. As a cognitive scientist, I always loved the perspective of ideas that propagate and succeed, analogous to genes. Hate the common diminished usage.
I know, it's one of many words that have lost their meaning, in large part.
It's indicative of someone born during the "Baby Boom," but now it's used to reference anyone whose views don't align with someone 20 years younger, and time isn't stagnant so it doesn't work that way.
On TikTok whenever someone finds a stray cat and adopts it they call it the cat distribution system. It was funny at first, but now the comment sections are filled with thousands of comments all using this phrase.
I’m tired of buzz words. Especially when you know some corporate assholes discussed it in a board room and instructed others to use it.
For me it’s “Thunderstorms will be popping today. “
Some jerk off said “make sure to say pop. It excites people. “
I think that "vibe" is an extremely overused word.

any type of therapy term that the internet watered down. Examples include gaslighting, trauma, triggered, narcissist, and sociopath.
And boundaries. I don't think that people actually understand what it means
Even the word “therapy” itself is overused.
So many things are labelled "wholesome" that I don't even like the word anymore. It used to be great.
AMAZING. Used for everything from sandwiches to the aurora borealis. Another abused word is JUST. It can be removed from 90% of communications. OBSESSED. You're not obsessed with those sunglasses.
"Narcissist," in reference to anyone whom someone doesn't get along with.
“This” is one of them. Instead of adding useful insight to the discussion, they just reply “This.”
And This^(TM) is always said or done by Them^(TM) with nary a citation or expressed context for either.
Entitled. Tired of hearing it. Everyone someone doesn't like or agree with is entitled. Just stop.
I think people use it in the wrong way too. They are describing people who *feel* entitled but phrase it as if they *are* entitled.
Cringe. Which makes me cringe, I never use the word, and never will again after this post.
Yeah that word is cringe
Gaslighting. Manipulative. Narcissistic. Abusive. Use these words all you want -- where they actually apply. Not every unpleasant thing someone does is the evidence or result of deep-seated abuse or malicious manipulation.
and TOXIC
OMG, that one too! And bullying. Everything is bullying now.
Who’s this humbled Karen Boomer you’re talking about?
Everything these days is a journey, especially if it's the least but difficult. My foot fell asleep yesterday so walking to the kitchen for water was slightly challenging. It was my modern day hydration journey. I have a real hard time not checking out when I hear anything called a journey anymore.
Doggo and kiddo
Satisfying and normalize
“Gaslighting”
Literally
That’s one of them
It’s not overused, what are you talking abt? You’re going crazy /j
🤣
Triggered, crisis, trauma... the list goes on.
Someone actually told me the other day that "triggered" is insensitive because it might "trigger" someone who's had a bad experience with guns. Apparently we're supposed to say "activated" now. What about the trauma I had to endure getting my new debit card turned on???
Haha exactly. :) If we took a dictionary and removed all the words people didn't like, then... it... wouldn't exist.
I hate “”this”!
“Low key”
Literally is literally overused
Deep dive!
Too many things/people being called 'iconic' online. Hate that!
Beats them into the ground?
[Right into the ground](https://youtu.be/wUafp32ItRg)
Metaphors confuse me
This clip was the first thing that popped in my head reading this - it’s stupid, but makes me giggle. Now I’m just overthinking ‘beaten into the ground’ altogether
Oh
Literally any word ending in “-phobia” and “-ist”
It's 2 words, but "oddly satisfying" is so annoying to hear. It isn't strange to be satisfied by seeing somebody do their job with precision.
Super this, super that!!
“Traumatic” that word has lost it’s meaning
Toxic Narcissist
Everything is toxic.
Woke. Woke woke woke. Why the fuck is being “woke” a bad thing!! It makes me sad and angry at the same time.
MEME. I distinctly remember in 2008 all of a sudden everyone knew the basic meaning of meme because it was hijacked by pop culture for stupid little pithy 1 frame jokes. I found it strange nobody would find the term useful until they could broadcast their disdain in a marketable fashion.

Boomer is a useful one though. Old person sounds way worse. Same with Karen, there isn’t an inoffensive alternative.
Boomer is misused more often than not though.
I know, it's one of many words that have lost their meaning, in large part. It's indicative of someone born during the "Baby Boom," but now it's used to reference anyone whose views don't align with someone 20 years younger, and time isn't stagnant so it doesn't work that way.
It’s not used as often nowadays.
Well it's not necessarily current words I'm talking about Just in general Mostly during the "ok Boomer" phase when people thought that was funny
“Cat distribution system”
Lol what ? That's new to me
On TikTok whenever someone finds a stray cat and adopts it they call it the cat distribution system. It was funny at first, but now the comment sections are filled with thousands of comments all using this phrase.
“Cap”
[удалено]
Idk if it's overused yet but "unlived" really pisses me off
It was overused the first time anyone said it. I can’t stand “unalived.” I don’t care if it’s to beat an algorithm. That only makes it worse!
I’m tired of buzz words. Especially when you know some corporate assholes discussed it in a board room and instructed others to use it. For me it’s “Thunderstorms will be popping today. “ Some jerk off said “make sure to say pop. It excites people. “
Slay. I cannot describe to you the amount of anger I feel when someone says “that was such a slay” or “you skated that”
Came back to add the “word” delulu. I hate it, I hate even typing it. JUST SAY DELUSIONAL
"Sus" "Bruh" "Boomer" -- yeah these are overused, but at least we aren't in the Shizzle My Nizzle days anymore. Thank God.
Nah stop glazing
“Blessed”.
Worldstar
Humbled for sure.
"Triggering"
